A hilarious slice of twentysomething life in the twenty-first century
Welcome to the Girl Juice House, home of only the hottest gang in town. Benji Nate’s stylish and rambunctious sense of humor lovingly takes digs at the young and tragically hip–reserved and introspective Nana, comically hypersexual Bunny, fledgling U-tuber Tula, and Designated Mom™ Sadie–as they navigate life, love, and the pursuit of a good time.
Girl Juice flaunts the gloriously messy and hilariously self-indulgent day-to-day hijinks of four young women doing the most. Watch them bicker over making rent and come up with creative solutions for getting there! Cringe as they attend an adult prom! Split your sides as they try their hand at camping! Cower as they confront their mommy issues, and cheer as they battle inner demons that feed off attention-seeking behavior!
Nate’s colorful attention to detail and gift balancing for graphic hyperbole with subtle comedy are a deep, much-needed breath of fresh air. With front-facing cameras ever at the ready, Girl Juice is a snappy reminder that the time of your life is always just a text away.

Let it be known that I am a fan of graphic novels! We get a glimpse into the chaotically horny lives of Girl Juice housemates Bunny, Tallulah, Sadie, and Nana. I read Girl Juice on a whim after receiving it from my favourite graphic novel publisher, Drawn and Quarterly -or just one of my favourite publishers in general - thank you so much! Girl Juice was very hilarious. It reminded me of a cross between Sailor Moon and Broad City. I loved the glimpse into the lives of the girlies of the Girl Juice house - the name of their shared home, which may also be haunted by a demon? This graphic novel is all I could have hoped for in a quick, quirky, wacky, and amusing read while driving 7 hours to the USA (don't worry, I wasn't driving while reading, just a passenger lol). I had so much fun with it that I immediately gave it to my friend who also enjoyed it. I couldn't get enough of the facial expressions and fashion moments in the drawings, which were wonderful, charming, and goofy. A very iconic read! Girl Juice is now available; don't pass this one up!
love the artwork but the writing/humor is idiotic, and idiotic not in the fun, this-is-so-silly-ah-ah, way, but in the how-was-this-even-published-way.
I was attracted to reading Girl Juice by Puerto-Rican-American Benji Nate because I knew and liked her Catboy and Hell Phone. Nate is funny in commenting on "the present moment," as she shows us five young women roommates--hip/reserved Nana, U-tuber Tula, Mom-ish Sadie with comically sel-absorbed and hypersexual Bunny in the middle of it all. Funny!
What are the comic scenes in this comics romp? Well, almost everything Bunny says is the center of the scene, always funny. But there's an adult prom, a try at camping, and oh, an exorcism, since the place is clearly haunted, so you need to both get scared and make sure you put this on YouTube, natch,
I, as a person of a certain age (i.e., old) kept thinking that this was like a twenty-first century, twenty-something Golden Girls comic series/graphic novel, with Bunny as the "man-crazy" Blanche, and maybe as raunchy (but it's not that raunchy) as the original Golden Girls writers would have liked making it. And, oh yeah, with glbtq rep. Benji, you have to do a Golden Girls flash forward!! For me! Golden Girrrls?! Come on!! I don't need a cut of the profits, just an acknowledgement, or if not, it doesn't matter, I'll know.
Thanks to Netgalley, Drawn & Quarterly and Benji Nate for the advanced look.
GIRL JUICE is a fun collection of comics/snippets showing the daily, slutty hijinks of a group of four twenty-something-aged roommates. A+ art style, great diversity in characters (they didn’t blend together due to being too similar), and just overall hilarious and fun.
reading this graphic novel is like having a yummy snack. it's light and easy to consume, and provides a lil bit of delicious sustenance.
nate's art is always a colorful joy, and their tongue-in-cheek humor is superb. and, as always, such cute outfits!!
the majority of the book is made of standalone single-page comics about four roommates at the girl juice house (plus their stylish pup, britney). but the last chunk is a longer story called tallulah's demon. tallulah becomes possessed by a demon that thrives on attention seeking behavior and it all spirals from there. after getting to know the girl juice gang, it was lovely to see them engage in an actual storyline, instead of just funny lil back and forth convos. i would love to read more about their weird adventures.
also, considering it's largely comprised of individual comics, i love the subtle developments that sort of happen in the background. nana reveals she's attracted to clowns, then starts talking about going to clown school, then slowly takes on a clownlike appearance. it happens lil by lil and it's so fun and cute!
Pretty dang funny. Reminded me of Walter K. Scott's Wendy comics but instead of an alcoholic, we have a vain hypersexual girl named Bunny. She lives with a few roommates, goes on dates, tries to be super sexy.
The first part of the book is a series of really short comedic bits, one longer sequence has the girls go on a camping trip. The last part of the book is one long story about one of the roommates getting possessed by a demon and they hire an exorcist. It's weird how the first part is realistic, plays up some parts for laughs. The second part just has a demon in it!
I found it quite funny and would be willing to check out more comics by Benji Nate.
DNF around 30% (thought I did lightly skim through the latter 2/3 of the book).
This suffered because I read a similar comic/graphic novel about roommates that was much more my speed (mostly static) and type of humor just a few days before (Matchmaker by Cam Marshall , which I would really recommend.)
This just seemed terminally vapid (but, like, trying to be?) and was also trying to shock us in an “oops did I do that?” kind of way. I could see others enjoying it, but I decided it wasn’t worth continuing. (Mainly from when one of them started waving a gun around in the woods, I was deeply suspicious, and when a random stranger inevitably got winged with a bullet, I was pretty much done.)
I like these comics online and thought it would be so exciting to have a whole bunch to read in graphic novel format. It was…not as fun as I’d hoped. The art style is great and the outfits are cute, and the end of the novel where there was an actual story was entertaining. Honestly though, a vapid, self-obsessed white Christian being the driving force of this book was boring pretty fast-and I say that as someone who loves a bimbo. I wanted to see more of the other characters as something other than foil to Bunny’s bullshit. It felt like it was reaching towards being something but didn’t quite make it. :(
I've wanted to read Benji Nate's work for a while now and I'm so happy I started with Girl Juice.
I audibly laughed out loud, took photos of many of the comic strips, and just had the best time. This is just a graphic novel about roommates being roommates, girlhood, and a hilarious sex-positive horny character named Bunny. Bunny is probably the funniest character I've ever read about!
So so so much fun, please pick this up if you haven't already!!
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC! (character spoilers below)
I loved this!! The art style is SO cute and fun and the colors are fantastic. Each of the four girls has a distinct personality and unique relationships with each other. Bunny a self absorbed slut from a religious background who is also still religious but living her best life. I love her and relate to her. Nana is an artist who is obsessed with the clown aesthetic. A little less relatable for me, but I still love her. Tula is a queer youtuber and I love her and that's relatable. Sadie is a queer punk with minor mom vibes and pink hair--relatable and I love her. Britney is a dog. Not super relatable but I love her.
Not only was the art wonderful, it was very funny and relatable. I want to buy a copy for my old roommate because, even though we weren't as cool as the girl juice gals, it's still a good vibe. I wish my life was more like girl juice.
Halfway through reading this I followed the author on instagram because obviously I want to see more stuff from her and tell my friends all about it so this is 100% 5 stars from me!
Four roommates hang, bicker, and have fun. Bunny is the sex-positive loose cannon who drives the funniest and most inappropriate jokes. The other three probably have personalities too, but mostly just exist to disapprove of or put the brakes on Bunny.
Told mostly in single page gags, there are a few short arcs about camping, an adult prom, and an overbearing mother. The last third of the book is a full-blown story about supernatural events happening in the house where they live that riffs on the toxic nature of social media.
No offense bc the art is VERY cute and I picked it up just for the cover. But this book annoyed me so bad. I kept reading hoping it would get better, it doesn’t. Bunny is the most annoying white girl ever and I’m saving Sadie, Ana, and Tallulah from her.
This was so much fun to read. I loved the colors, the comic format, and the main cast of girls (and Britney the pup).
This graphic novel was chock full of 20-somethings humor and I had the best time reading it. I’m so lowkey obsessed with all four of the girls (but especially Bunny).
Bunny, Sadie, Tula, Nana, and Britney were weird, queer, and quirky in all the best ways. I really hope more books about them come out. If you are looking for a fun, colorful, and queer comic series that follows weird and queer girls, this is for you.
I was giggling so much😭 it reminded me of all the shenanigans me and my roomies went through. a very accurate depiction of growing up in the 21st century.
