Starting in the northern region of India, this compact guide to the Indian style takes readers on a tour through the country and explores a range of Indian architecture and interior design. Full color.
A rich variety of beautiful photographs of people, their houses and their country. Fresh images with hardly a cliched shot. The buildings range from modest to spectacular, old (very) to new. And no sign of litter, rubbish or street animals (sorry, there are cows on pp50-51 in the desert town of Jaisalmer). My favourite photo (so hard to choose): books neatly stacked in the library of the Palacio de Pernem (pp128-129).
I love looking through this book. Beautiful photographs of landscapes, houses(inside and out)and small details like doorways and Art, and of course people all in different areas of India. A great small book for the coffee table or a conversation piece. I had it at work for about a year and everyone who flipped through it really liked it.
There were some very pretty photos, but this was not the book for me. I love the beauty that is hidden in the crappy, dirty, grossness of India. The contradiction of it all. This book focused on richer palace type areas. Someone else may love it.
Loved it! A nice, handy book to have when thinking about diverse elements of Indian style from all over the country. Specially love the pictures from Goan architecture and design.
The interior panel of this book was something that caught my attention..beautiful..devastatingly beautiful , make me want to visit.. all the sites… other than that.. was okay.. the baby was so cute🥺
Published in 2001, judged from 2026 perspective - unfortunately, this book did not age well. The idea behind it though was great and quotes on India, despite tiny font, are worth reading.
