Bad Boys of the Bayou #1

The Best Bad Boy

Rate this book
The strip club owner’s grandson and the preacher’s granddaughter?
Yep, that sounds about right for Bad, Louisiana.

Bad boy Jase Hawkins didn’t mean to get naughty with good girl, Priscilla Williams. And certainly not in her grandpa’s church. It just kind of happened.

But he’s thought about that night for ten years.

Which is more of an annoyance than an actual problem.

Until he comes back to his tiny hometown where there’s no chance in hell of avoiding the preacher’s granddaughter he can’t quite get over.

Especially now that she works for the mayor and her boss has given her one very important assignment—find out what the hell Jase is doing with his grandfather’s old strip club and get rid of him.

That’s fine with Jase. As soon as he gets the building renovated and sold, he’ll head out and never look back.

But Cilla has other plans. She needs the building, and his help, to prove herself to the mayor. Her mother.

Fine. He’ll give her what she wants. But he’s going to get something out of this deal too.

And what he wants is her.

I am so excited to be stepping into Bad, Louisiana and experiencing all the hot, steamy moments that the Bad Boys of the Bayou series have to offer and The Best Bad Boy, book one in the series is definitely off to a great start!!

Jase Hawkins is back in town after leaving ten years ago. His plan is to renovate and sell his grandfather’s old strip club and then leave. However, when the one girl that he can’t get out of his mind shows back up in the old club, his plans begin to change. Once Priscilla convinces him to do something good for the town by converting the old club, she also has to convince the Mayor and the town council that it would be a good idea to convert the old Pork and Peaches strip club into the town’s community center.
As Jase spends more time back in Bad he is realizing that he wants to belong to this community and make a difference. He just needs to figure out how he will fit in. It is obvious that not only Priscilla wants him back but his friends have easily welcomed him back into the fold but will the rest of the town accept him for who he is and not what family he belongs to.
Priscilla Williams has always had to be the good girl since her grandfather is the preacher in town, but when the one boy who rocked her world years ago comes back she is thinking all kinds of naughty thoughts.
Jase and Priscilla have never forgotten their connection from ten years prior and it is easy to see that they still have that same chemistry now. Jase is all grown up and in Priscilla’s eyes is a hot man with a filthy mind and a romantic heart and everything she desperately desires. For Jase there has always been something about Priscilla and now he has the chance to have everything he always wanted, the beautiful woman, a town that accepts him and happiness in his heart.

'You ready to pound some stuff?'

I LOVE BAD! I shouldn't be surprised, it has crossover characters from Autre and I love all of Erin Nicholas's other series too.
She hopes to reform the bad boy whilst he wants to ruin the good girl, but what they discover together is that bad boys can actually be very, very good and good girls? Well they can also be very, very naughty!
Jase is one of the original Bad boys, he is a bad boy that specialises in graphic dirty talkin' and seduction, what he has forgotten is that Cilla owns his heart, he left it with her when he left 10 years ago. Suddenly what was a quick visit to town becomes returning home. I love, love, love both Jase and Cilla, he is not half as bad as he pretends and she has a surprising but steamy naughty side.
An awesome read on Kindle Unlimited and I cannot wait for book 2 which I am downloading now!

This was cute but really nothing special!

Let's break it down:
Priscilla (FMC) is a good girl.
She's the Pastor granddaughter and the Mayor daughter. She loves being a princess and a good girl.

Jace (MMC) he's not a bad bot per say. But he was the grandson of a strip club owner. Like his grandpa Jace did not believe in going to church and he's a manwhore.

Other than that he's a cinnamon roll. So selling this book as Bad boy x good girl with forbidden elements fell short.
Their relationship was not forbidden. It was simply socially weird.
What annoyed be about the book is
1/ Priscilla being called Pris/ Cilla/ Peach. I hate when author give multiple nicknames.

2/ Priscilla made out with Jace when they were 18 (mainly oral sex) Then Jace left the town for 10 YEARS. Priscilla was not his girlfriend and quite frankly she did not want him to come back.
YET she remained a virgin. Ended up giving that virginity to Jace who would tell her about his previous sexcapades.

I don't have any problem with Experienced MMC x virgin FMC, but don't talk to me about your sex history. I think that's insulting.

3/The MMC had the nerve to ogle some side character and tell FMC "I think she's hot. she's sexy and feisty." AND "she has a magical pussy"
When FMC got jealous, he told her that he did not sleep with her but always thought she was sexy OBJECTIVELY SPEAKING.
Well fuck you Jace! That's the worst explanation ever. Even if later he told FMC "I always wanted yo and only you", I was not convinced.

With all the things that I explained, this book is pretty much Insta lovey. Once they had sex for the first time their brain chemistry wad forever altered. Which left a bitter taste in my mouth as well.

Erin Nicholas has two highly entertaining series based around the Landry family of Autre Louisiana. The town of Bad just up the bayou from Autre is frequently mentioned as it and its residents have always been friendly rivals to Autre and the Landrys. If I’m understanding what the author said in her preface to this book, her Bad series is actually a compilation of standalone books she’d previously written which she has now massaged into a series based in Bad. I apologize to her if that is a misinterpretation. At any rate we’re told that not only can each book in this series be read as a standalone but that in what is rare for a series the order in which you read them really isn’t important. Be that as it may, I’ve chosen to read them in order and The Best Bad Boy is first up on the list. The Landrys are mentioned in this story and Zeke, Zander and Mitch even make a brief appearance. But that’s the extent of the connection between this series and the author’s Boys of the Bayou or Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series.
Pricilla or Cilla or Pris is the quintessential good girl. With her grandfather being the minister of the Bad Faith Community Church and possibly the most influential citizen of Bad and her mother being the town’s mayor, she’s had little choice. She goes to church every Sunday, belongs to the Women’s Church Group and teaches Sunday school. She never even curses publicly. Officially she’s her mom’s administrative assistant but unofficially she’s really the glue that holds the town together or the oil that keeps it running. And she does it all because she truly wants to make peoples lives better. Her character was a bit hard for me to understand because she did so many things behind the scenes to make the people of Bad lives better and on one hand she didn’t want to be seen as a leader but on the other she resented the fact that she believed that no one took her ideas seriously. She didn’t want public acknowledgement for all she did but she also didn’t want to involve her mother or grandfather just to watch them get the recognition. Being who she was in a small town limited Pricilla’s dating opportunities and it left the guys she did date with certain preconceived notions about how they should behave when they were with her. That is none ever tried to get past first base with her. None that is except Jase one of the town’s bad boys. Only because Jase’s grandfather owned The Pork and Peach strip club just outside Bad’s town limits he was shaded as being badder than most. Jase has always had a crush on Cilla and Cilla had always had a thing for Jase. They didn’t date or even travel in the same circle of friends but they were casual friends. One night they somehow started making out in the Church annex where Sunday school was taught. Jase ended up stripping Cilla naked and going down on her rocking her world. But much to her disappointment, he didn’t’ cash her V-card. So as this story opens Cilla at 28 years old is still a virgin.
Shortly after Jase and Cilla had their brief sexual encounter the Pork and Peaches caught fire. Jase, his grandfather and mother all left Bad and moved to Georgia where he learned the construction trade and started his own successful business. Now he’s back in Bad to make some repairs to the former strip club in the hopes of selling it to help defray his grandfather’s nursing home costs. Pricilla’s mother, concerned that Jase may be planning on reopening the strip club sends her to talk to him to convince him to get out of town. Although since she was totally unaware of her daughter’s previous relationship with Jase, I’m not certain how she expected her to accomplish that? It’s not as if the town had any legal means to force him to leave because technically the building wasn’t within the town’s limits. Jase who is still carrying a torch for Cilla is surprised to see her. He isn’t shy about reminding her about what they did and surprisingly she isn’t shy about admitting how much she enjoyed it. In fact she’d enjoy doing it and more again. Because Jase is the only boy now man who can make her heart rate speed up and her blood feel like its on fire. Jase agrees to turn the old strip club into a community center in return for Cilla agreeing to have lots of sex with him while he’s in town. This is a win-win for Cilla so she readily agrees to his conditions. But Jase being the good guy he is and really being in love with Cilla quickly amends their deal agreeing to remodel the club into a community center with no sex strings attached. Before you know it, (not knowing Cilla is still a virgin) he has her naked and bent over the old bar pounding her into orgasmic bliss from behind. Take one sexually repressed 28 year old woman and add in the only guy that’s ever really lit her fire and you have a recipe for a whole lot of fucking. Pricilla quickly realizes that she’s made the classic former virgin mistake of falling for the guy who popped her cheery. But is it really a mistake? She thinks perhaps because she believes Jase plans to leave Bad again for good once he’s sold the former club. But she also very much wants him to stay. So she sets about to show him that despite his preconceptions about how the town views him, he is welcome and wanted by not only her but by many of the town’s citizens whom he went to school with. Jase quickly comes to realize that he wants to settle down in Bad where his roots are. He wants to be accepted by the people there and most of all he wants to build a life with Pricilla. The rest of the story is pretty much Jase helping Pricilla see that she needs to show people who she is and all that she does for the town even if she doesn’t want to take a formal leadership position and Pricilla helping Jase see that he really does fit in with Bad and that they can have a life together there. All in all this was a sexy heart warming story about a girl who wasn’t all “good girl” and a guy who wasn’t as much of a “bad boy” as people thought he was.

We've heard so much about Bad in the other Bayou books, so it was fun to get more with this town. This one started out slow for me. I felt bad for Jase, it seemed like he hated being back in town and was only doing things for the money. I don't blame him, the town treated him bad in the past due to who is family was, yet that wasn't who he was. I liked that Priscilla saw Jase for more, both in the past and the present. I loved the way that Priscilla showed him, her town and it's people, including his old friends. Things really picked up for me here. You could see that Jase was yearning for a place to belong, along with Priscilla.

There was a bit of a stumble towards the end, which had me worried, but I didn't need to be. Jase came up with a great plan to make everyone happy and give him what he wanted, the girl and the town.

Merged review:

This one was ok for me. Not sure why I didn't like it more, I liked Randi, liked Nolan, liked how both of them were finally acting on their crush of 10 years, thought they were good together, yet I was a bit bored while reading. I will say that I really liked how this one ended, loved that Nolan wrote a book that was basically a love story to Randi and then the two of them were able to act out a fantasy.

THE BEST BAD BOY by Erin Nicholas is part of her Bad Boys of the Bayou. Set in fictional Bad, Louisiana, yes, not far from Autre, Bad Boys of the Bayou is another tight knit small town full of hardworking and fierce and loving people.

Jase Hawkins and Priscilla Williams are the quintessential bad boy and good girl. His grandfather owns the local strip club while hers is the local pastor. While they actually got along beautifully in school, Jase left town right after and hadn’t been back for years.

Now he’s back to take care of business, it turns out in more ways than one.

Erin Nicholas’s story is sizzling hot and Jase and Cilla’s passions are clearly ready to erupt. I loved getting to know these two as well as meet their friends and families, and their second chance is everything I’ve wanted in a second-chance story!

I read My Bestfriend’s Mardi Gras Wedding and absolutely loved it. So when I saw there’s a stand-alone series set in a nearby town to that series, I was ready. This book did not disappoint.

Jase Stevens has come back to town to fix up his grandfather’s strip club to sell it. Priscilla Williams’s mission is to make sure that doesn’t happen. From their first meeting they have a certain attraction. But as they spend more time together and they start to wonder if it’s more than lust between them.

Something I thought was so interesting in this is the way certain expectations were flipped for both the main characters. For all the problems his grandpa caused, Jase was loved and supported his entire life. Priscilla’s life looks like it should’ve always been perfect. However that’s not quite true. They don’t fit neatly into the good girl/bad boy roles and that made it even better to read.

Jase tries to act like he’s just a tough badass. He is but he’s also really sweet. Priscilla is the daughter of the mayor and granddaughter of the town preacher. She’s not as good as she appears though.

I know this is just the beginning of the town of Bad. I can’t wait to read the stories of the other characters introduced in this book. Of course it’ll be fun to see Jase and Priscilla in the background throughout too. I love the way the town leans into their name too. “Bad Faith Community Church” Is just too perfect.

One one hand, the way the author has the MCs treat each other is lovely. On the other, if they were both so in love and there were no big issues for over ten years of separation, why didn’t Jace come back long ago? Cilla is happy to let the world know from day one—literally—that she and Jace are a couple. Holding hands, kissing in public, sitting on his lap. And somehow she doesn’t think her family knows in this small gossipy town? Too many things didn’t make sense.

The FMC’s secret savior complex was so annoying. I swear they spent more time discussing her need to secretly control everything than they did falling in love. Seriously, they go from not seeing each other for ten years to deeply in love in about 48 hours, if that. Then they skip seven weeks? Why not build their relationship over time instead of having them lovingly hanging out with all the characters from upcoming books and doing weird little acts of charity at four in the morning? I could not get past how stupid that was.

Not a bad book if you know what you’re getting. Fortunately, I have read this authors previous series, so I’m familiar. It’s spicy, but it has a hallmark movie twist. (Possible spoilers ahead) I use this author between my super dark romance books.

H and h knew each other as kids/teens. He gave her the first experience at oral. He left town.

He’s considered BAD, but he’s not really. He has a filthy mouth. Comes back to town to sell his grandpa’s strip club. He’s been gone for 10 years. h wants to make it a community center.

h’s mom is the mayor and she works for her. Pretty much, she’s a good girl. She’s 27 and still a V. 🙃

It’s InstaLove between the couple with some spicy scenes.

There’s not a lot of drama.

The worst part is the moments H is looking at other women and his POV are talking about how so and so is hot. Eek

There’s almost a 3rd act breakup, but not really. These are actual adults so it’s worked out quickly.

They are engaged after 7 weeks 😩

So if you want some spice with no drama, this is it for you.

The couple: Jase and Priscilla

Romance trope: second chance
Series: Bad Boys of the Bayou
Length: 263 pages

Plot: Jase and Priscilla had a beautiful, brief moment at the end of high school and then Jase had to quickly leave town. He's back now, having inherited the burned-out shell of the town's somewhat reviled strip joint. Priscilla works for her mother, the mayor, who wants her to convince Jase to sell to the city and move on. But when Jase and Scilla meet again, the sparks are definitely there. Jase needs to sell and Scilla needs to prove herself, but the two of them also want the sweetness and spice they seem to be able to provide for each other in spades.

Commentary: Sweet story! I love how non-judgmental Scilla stayed all those years despite her family. And against my will, I felt like her grandfather had a few points when he said she never let them recognize her for everything she did. And the blackmailing! Wow, it's like they got all the big problems over with at the very beginning of their relationship. But I think my favorite part of the story was when they went to the local party together and Scilla was not at all ashamed or hesitant to be seen there with him - I think that probably set a lot of Jase's fears to rest very easily.

Next book in the series: Bad Medicine

I actually have all 8 of these books

Okay so I actually have all 8 of these books but have no clue how I bought them. I may have gotten from Erin's site. Anywho

Jase and Priscilla was an amazing read. I'm so glad I bought the entire series. 10 years people for 10 years Cilla had Jase's heart and he had hers. After 10 years he comes back to town to fix up his Grandfathers business (A Strip Club) that burnt down and he was going to sell it. Cilla was supposed to go and tell Jase to leave town. Yep that worked well. I'm so glad the Good Bad Girl of the town went with her rebel side and went after what she wanted which was Jase. Great story, surprised by her Grandpa seriously and would have loved to be a fly on the wall when Jase went to talk to her Mother who happened to be the mayor.

Oh SPOILER*** When Jase proposes to Cilla make sure you have a box of tissues. Sweetest thing ever.

It would be hard to live in a small town - especially when everyone has expectations for how you should act! Priscilla is the pastor’s granddaughter and has to live up to the family name. Jase is trying to break away from his grandfather’s name. Their chemistry is undeniable. The dialogue engaging. Priscilla’s behavior kept surprising me. (And Pastor Williams drives me crazy!)

Bad, LA is a fun world Nicholas has created after barely introducing us to Bad in other series. The characters are fun and likable. The books in this world are interconnected, but don’t need to be read in any order. I love the supporting characters - friends that appear here and there in each book. The storylines happen independently enough that you aren’t lost between books.

I am soooooo happy that EN decided to write more Louisiana novels! I’ve enjoyed her series so much, starting with Boy of the Big Easy and then the two Boys of the Bayou ones set in Autre …..and now this one in the neighboring town of Bad. She has a way of creating characters that stay with you long after the last page is turned and leaving you wishing they were not only real but close friends too!

This story was simple and sweet, very low on angst and drama. The trope is good girl/bad boy as well as second chance romance. Both characters experienced major personal growth, which fueled their relationship. The side characters were AMAZING and hopefully we will see their stories as the series progresses!

Bringing Back Bad

Bad, Louisiana is the location for Erin Nicholas' revised and renewed book series. To kick off the series we meet Jace, a contractor, who is back in Bad to remodel an old eyesore structure that his family abandoned when they left town some years ago. Having escaped his bad boy image his return to Bad has resurrected it. So it falls to Pricilla, the Mayor's daughter, basically Bad's city manager and Jase's lost heart throb, to stop him. They do strike a deal. The negotiations result in hijinks, humor, sexy, sexy times and a great conclusion for all. Looking forward to the rest of this series.

Priscilla and Jase haven't seen each other for ten years, but they can't deny their attraction for each other. Jase is back to fix up his grandfather's burnt building and leave town again until he sees Priscilla. Priscilla wants Jase to stay and will do anything to get him to stay. These two finally admit their feelings for each other and Jase reconnects with all of his old friends. Priscilla has to fess up to Jase what she did behind his back. The Bad boys of Bad aren't so bad! Really enjoyed this book!

way too long descriptions/internal dialogues - DNF

I don’t love the idea behind this book (sex for business exchange). There are scenes that I skimmed (like the one where the female lead is waiting outside to talk to her mom after the first meeting with the male lead). I found myself skimming more and more - until I realized I was wasting my time. This is also written in 3rd part, which drives me nuts.

I really like the authors style of writing, I wish I got to hear the rest of the story of Jase and Priscilla. I am hoping that the next couple of books fill me in on what happens next with them. I know it won't be the main focus, but it would be nice to hear what happens after marriage. It is always nice to end the book with a happy ever after, but it definitely leaves you hanging and wanting more. I do think I found an author that is on my favorites list. Thank you, Erin, for writing so well!

Loved Jase and Cilla's story. Welcome to Bad, Louisiana. Where everything is named after the town. Jase is back after being gone for 10 years. Cilla has been sent to send the man packing. He isn't welcome in Bad anymore. All over a strip club called the Pork and the Peach. Jase is ready to leave bad in the rear view again. Will Cilla convince him to stay or leave? What's in it for her? This was a book full of smoldering passion.

Such a good, sweet, yet spicy book!!
I adored Bad and its interesting characters.
I loved Jase and his cocky confidence.
I loved Priscilla and her fearless attitude when it came to wanting Jace.
It was so sweet and didn’t have any of that annoying miscommunications that usually fill a bad boy, good girl book. There was slight conflict but it didn’t cause frustration just added more opportunities for sweet.

I just wish we had an epilogue into the future of these two.

Wow! What a great book! Priscilla is the good girl of the town. Her grandfather is the pastor and her mother is the mayor. Bad boy Jase returns to deal with his grandpas business. Priscilla is going over to talk to him but do they really do any talking? Things happened between them 10 years ago and they might not be about to move on from them.

Jase and Priscilla

This is the first in this Bad Boys series and laid a great foundation for the rest. It showed how making assumptions about and for people can lead to do many misunderstandings and heartache. Loved these characters and look forward to the next book. Highly recommended.

a bit corny

This book was so boring for me. It should have been a quick day read for me but instead it took me a month to finish. It took everything in me not to DNF this book. I felt like most of the book was reading about Jase’s thoughts. Which became repetitive. There wasn’t enough dialogue for my liking. The writing style and pov did not work for me

Got this as a freebie during Amazon book day. The plot really focuses on how the town’s name is Bad but the boys aren’t. (Which makes the cover deceiving)

Spice level was a 1-1.5.

Is a quick and easy read if you’re in a slump

SPOILER:
Couple got engaged after 7 weeks, and I just couldn’t get past that 🤣

Amazing

These characters are terrific. You can't help but to fall in love with them. I totally appreciate the absence of dark/deep and prolonged angst common before the breakup. There's just a mist of it, enough to keep you on your toes. And the ending - full circle - is fabulous.
