Attorney Tempest Waters jumps at the chance to make a difference in the galaxy by joining the president’s administration. But once inside the White House she discovers the publicly personable politician is criminally corrupt and venal to the core. Unfortunately, Tempest has seen too much to be allowed to resign. When the menacing henchman Benjamin Bane begins dogging her every step she fears she may be in serious trouble. With the excuse of checking on the president’s planetary interests, she escapes to dune-covered, sand-blasted Sajave—only to have Bane follow her.
Not all cyborgs are good guys. Some are stone-cold killers.
When Benjamin Bane undergoes the transformation to cyborg, he suffers a rare complication—the loss of his emotions. He’s unable to feel more than shallow sentiments. On the plus side, being dead inside makes his job as an enforcer doing the president’s dirty work a lot easier. But then he encounters Tempest Waters. Something about the unassuming, but efficient presidential aide catches his eye. What begins as mild interest soon becomes an obsession as she reawakens his dormant passions and sweeps him into a vortex of emotion.
But he can’t afford to feel anything. He’s been ordered to kill her.
Vortex (Cyborg Force 3) is an enemies-to-lovers science fiction romance that will have you clinging to the edge of your seat. Get Vortex>, and hang on. Your steamy, suspenseful, action-packed ride is about to begin.
USA Today bestselling author Cara Bristol writes science fiction romance about tough alien and cyborg heroes who fall hard for sassy heroines.
Cara is a homebody who married a wanderer. When she’s not writing or being distracted by squirrels cavorting outside her office window, she enjoys reading and traveling the world with her husband. Topping her bucket list is visiting all seven continents and petting a squirrel.
Each book in this series is better than the last. I love the way the author can take two potentially unlikable characters and turn them into a couple that has me cheering for their HEA.
Action, adventure, superior world building, and an awesome romance!
Going from big asset to major liability, attorney Tempest Waters, is in the crosshairs of the President’s most competent enforcer, Benjamin Bane. Book two ended at an interesting place and Vortex launched from there.
Vortex is book three in the Cyborg Force series on a sandy alien world with the suspense building with each connected book.
Tempest never dreamt that when she went to work for the President she wouldn’t be working for the good guys or that she would likely never break free. Her life depends on getting the Sajave situation handled, but the complications come in the form of her big lethal shadow and the extenuating circumstances going on with the planet. Bane says trust him and she finds herself wanting to, but… yeah right!
Bane lost his emotions when he was made cyborg and it served him well especially when he went to work as the ambitious President’s enforcer. But, inconveniently, the emotions return when one warmhearted lawyer crosses his path. Tempest should have never ended up working for the President and she doesn’t have the cold heart for the job. The kill order will come. And then what will he do about the woman who has gotten under his cyborg skin?
The suspense was there from the beginning and Vortex kept this up through the story and doubled down on the excitement there at the end. Tempest and Bane were introduced in the previous book as were the circumstances of the sentient alien sand of Sajave and the corporations that are set to ignore the scientific reports for their own ends with the full power of the President backing them. It is a powder keg and there Tempest was saddled to ride it out and somehow find a win-win out of a big lose-lose situation. I had my suspicions about Bane’s interest in Tempest and could only hope I was right about him. She didn’t even trust or like him when the attraction started to come for her. Talk about good enemies to lovers’ material. I liked how the author set this pair up and got their story from point A to point B. Wow, the twist and exciting moment were great. I didn’t see that coming. When it finally went down, the powder keg fuse was lit and the next book with Clint, the leader and a surprising shades of gray heroine will see it igniting for the grand finale. This is a long-novella length, fast read just like the others in the series. There are spicy and exciting diverse romance scenarios with each one while the over-arcing series story continues with good sci-fi action. Sci-fi romance lovers really need to give Cara Bristol’s hard action sexy cyborgs a go.
I rec'd an eARC from the author to read in exchange for an honest review.
My full review will post at The Reading Frenzy Nov 14th.
OMG, I could not put it down. I read it in one day. Characters are easy to relate to, story keeps you entertained with all the twist and turns. I like cyborg related romances and all the action and adventure. This book is definitely worth the time spent reading!.

This was a one-sit read for me that was full of interesting characters, fab chemistry, twists, betrayal and action. I loved how Bane and Tempest really struggled with what they were both trying to achieve while resisting their smoking hot chemistry. It made for some intense moments ;) I also loved the progression of the over-arcing plot and how the sand is alive. This concept continues to fascinate me :) I really enjoyed the reading adventure the author provided in this well written story and look forward to more ;D
Spies and espionage abound as Vortex by Cara Bristol explodes onto the pages! This sy-fy thriller will have you at the edge of your seat. Bane is an enforcer for the corrupt president. His cyborg enhancements makes him unable to have emotions…until he meets Tempest Waters. Tempest is trying to contain damage control on a planet that has toxic waste thrown on it that is killing the alien residents, those residents are sand. This was a completely inventive plot that had me mesmerized. I could not put it down. Excellent ❤️❤️.
I found this book highly enjoyable. An enticing blend of suspense and romance flows throughout this gripping read. Rich with tension, anticipation and twists, I found this book very hard to put down. I liked Tempest and Benjamin and the chemistry they shared. Intriguing and thrilling. This book was very, very good. This is my unbiased, unsolicited review.
I Couldn’t Put it DOWN! Great Love Story! Great Characters!
Buckle up. Close your tray tables up. Ensure your seats in their full, upright position. You are about to depart on a flight you’ll never guess you’d take! The H/h, Bane and Tempest, are truly unlikely lovers. When I was introduced to them in the book “Gale Force”, I was curious as to how Ms Bristol would create a believable story out of the mess they were in. She did it! This is not just a rollercoaster ride type novel, this is a airplane flight in extremely bad weather! Fortunately, we won’t have to use our flotation devices to survive the landing, but you might have to clutch your pearls. I really enjoy Ms Bristol’s ability to make characters that are one of a kind, damaged goods, that you want to see win. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting a fourth installment in the Series, but I’m glad there is!! I can’t wait!
A simply wonderful read, great characters and a simply exciting scenario you’ll enjoy
This is a wonderful read and I have been very much been waiting for this book to be released and I can say that you will love every moment of this wonderful read and you will find it impossible to put down until you reach the last page and discover the final outcome.
Tempest Waters is an attorney that is in the private sector and has become part of the president’s administration, she is so very proud to be able to serve her people and country and yet she now knows too much and this has made her a liability and this could not be allowed and there was only one suitable solution “her death”.
Benjamin Bane who is one of the secret enforcers and his is a cyborg, he is known to be cold and emotionless and yet as he works with Tempest and helps to ensure her safety he finds himself starting to have feelings for this brave, tenacious woman that keeps him on his toes.
I guarantee that you will be blow away by this story quite literally and that you will be left looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Benjamin Bane, a cyborg with no emotions, works as an enforcer for President Kathryn Jodane. His job is to eliminate problems for the President, and he is very good at his job. When she begins to suspect on of her employee’s is as loyal as she would like, she orders Bane to follow her.
Tempest Waters is an attorney. She agreed to work for the President when she was asked because she felt it was her patriotic duty. Little did she know what she was getting herself into. When she sees something she wasn’t supposed to she knows she is in trouble but has no idea how to get herself out of it and still be alive! She gets a message from Geo-Tech that would throw a huge monkey wrench in the Presidents plans to develop the planet Sajave. Tempest sees this as the perfect opportunity to get off the planet and hopefully figure out her next step. Unfortunately the President finds out she is going and Bane talks her into letting him follow her instead of just killing her.
When Tempest finds out that Bane is following her she figures her time is limited. She throws herself into trying to contain the mess that is erupting on Sajave. Unfortunately forces are working against both of them and danger is right on their heels!
Well written with lots of action and I love the ending!!.

I haven't read a cyborg scifi book in a while but the blurb on this one caught my eye, and I was not disappointed. Tempest is an attorney working for a corrupt president and she's in over her head. In a desperate attempt to survive the president's wrath she travels to the planet Sajave where the president has financial interests, only to be followed by Bane, the president's cyborg enforcer. With everyone corrupt around her, Tempest doesn't know who to trust. Her life is on the line, and she's doing her best to stay alive. Should she trust Bane or is he only there to carry out the president's orders.
Cara Bristol has wowed me again! Her world building is so creative! Her characters are natural and feel like they could be people you know. Her plots have the kind of twists and turns that keep your interest and can stand alone even without the romance although there is plenty of that also. And the connection between the main characters feels real and not forced.
I highly recommend reading Vortex! I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking forward to book 4 in the series about a character introduced in this book!.

Tempest Waters has been the president’s admin/liaison from the beginning. There is something going on at Sajave. If you read the other books you know that Breeze and Gayle have learned that the sand is alive. With MORE and SEW trying to add to and pollute the area, something must be done. Benjamin Bane is the president’s enforcer. He has no emotion. When he had the change done he lost all feeling. But Tempest seems to be stirring things up in him. But his job is clear, eliminate the threat if ordered. I have to say you never know for sure what is going on. We have greed, pollution, drugs, aliens, informers and more. I wasn’t sure who to trust. Was Tempest working with Jodane or against? And what about Bane? And is Jodane’s daughter Sandra good or bad? Kathryn was evil to the core. This woman is cut throat. It was a chase and then STOP. We have a cliffhanger and I want to know what happens next. Looking forward to Sandra’s story.

I have always loved Cara's books and this one is no exception, in fact i think it might actually be my favourite so far. Benjamin Bane became less a man and more machine than most when he became a cyborg. He lost all emotion which also most specifically includes compassion, understanding and empathy. As a result he is the prefect enforcer. Clean, clinical , unquestioning and not swayed by anything other than the mission. That is until his latest target seems to be able to reach his latent humanity. Tempest Waters as always wanted to make a difference. She never anticipated that the world of politics is more smoke and mirrors than she ever imagined. No one is ever as they seem and after finding out more than she should about President Jodane she now has a Bane shaped shadow. She's been aware of him for years and she knows exactly who he is. Maybe there is still a chance she can survive all this? Could she still believe in miracles?
It seemed like this President of the USA was a dream come true instead President Kathryn Jodane turned out to be the devil. This greedy self-serving villain rules with an iron fist through a group of superhuman cyborg enforcers. Benjamin Bane is her most trusted (killer) guard dog. Cyborg Bane has no feelings; he is called in to do the dirtiest jobs. As an Attorney, Tempest Waters was proud to work for President Jodane until she uncovered some bad stuff. In this story, no one is whom you think they are. Evil could be anywhere. This is a good story that keeps you on your toes and is full of interesting characters, both the good and bad kinds. I received a free advanced copy of this story from Booksprout and am happy to leave my opinion of the story. Linda
Oh, what things would a money and power hungry corrupt politician do to get their way! A planet that is being developed despite sentient life being discovered poses many interesting challenges. I really liked all of the details unknown yet intertwined details that contributed to the suspense. Tempest as legal counsel for a corrupt president and Bane who supposedly was a brutal emotionless enforcer made for an interesting pair. As a cat and mouse game of who was on who was on which side continued, the stakes just get higher. The twist in the story caught me by surprise – I never even saw it coming! I have really enjoyed the continuation of this plot line in the series.

I love this story. Tempest is finding that all is not well with the President of the US. There is action, intrigue and surprises. The President has sent her best "killer" to take care of Tempest but what she doesn't know is that Tempest is bringing Bane's feeling back to life. I love the storyline and the characters have an amazing romance with steam. Looking forward to the next book.

This books storyline is so filled with twist and turns you don't know who is the good guys from the bad until the end. I really enjoyed reading it, and can't wait for more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
The twists in this book just keeps on coming and getting better. I was blindsided by some of the and expected a couple of them. While there’s suspense throughout, the danger and action towards the end will make it impossible to put the book down.
Cara Bristol brings us a good story full of steam, suspence, action packed, romance who captivates from the first word .It's a vortex of emotions in a enemies to lovers story.

This is a great series. I was waiting for this book and was not disappointed. Loved the storyline it was adventurous and exciting. Tempest and Benjamin have a exciting and emotional journey and it was amazing. The ending was perfect but the series should be read in order for the best adventure.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I could not put this book down. The storyline is so unique yet speaks to relevant matters. Loved this couple and can't wait for more.
Vortex is the third book in the ongoing story about alien life and colonization on Sajave. Picking up where the second book leaves off, the story follows U.S. President Jodane’s advisor, Tempest Waters, as she tries to stay alive by keeping the president’s construction projects on Sajave up and running. However, Jodane doesn’t trust Tempest, so she sends her henchman, Bane, to follow Tempest to Sajave and terminate her, permanently.
Vortex is another solid novella in the series. There is a good twist - I wasn’t sure how Bane could be redeemed because he is such a hardass jerk. I like that Tempest and Bane have known each other for a couple years, even though that time wasn’t spent as friends. The relationship is about trust and reaching the point where you just need to trust someone.
I continue to enjoy the alien sand plot and that the sand is getting bolder, widening its circle of trust. However, things are coming to a head, and I feel like the folks on Sajave can’t keep the alien sand a secret for much longer.
In the end, Vortex is an exciting tale that is best when read in order with the series. Although I had my doubts, Tempest and Bane work - they are both trapped out of a sense of duty, but find their way out.
My Favorite Cyborg Force Book! (so far;) Attorney Tempest Waters ran to Sajave to escape her boss President Jodane. Unfortunately, she was followed there by Jodane’s Cyborg Enforcer, Benjamin Bane… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
I have been anxiously waiting for Vortex, Book 3 in the Cyborg Force Series from author Cara Bristol. It did not disappoint! There is so much suspense, intrigue, and unexpected surprises to keep the reader turning the pages in anticipation. What I love most about this book is the two main characters. Tempest Waters was an attorney in the private sector, until becoming a part of President Katryn Jodane's administration. What once was a dream come true, serving her country, has now become a day to day nightmare. She knows too much, including where the bodies are, and has become a liability. Benjamin Bane is one of President Jodane's secret enforcers, and he is a Cyborg. He is emotionless, cold, and a killer. He is known to eliminate the president's liabilities. He tells Tempest she can trust him, but how is that possible? Love this push/pull chemistry between these two.
The world building in this series is brilliant! Readers should read the books in order so they won't miss any of the surprises along the way. Can't wait to see what comes next! And OMG, poor Sandy!!
"Did I dream of escaping the minefield? Of course, but I was a realist."
Tempest may have been at least part idealist when she started working for the President, but she'd had the job long enough to become a realist. Now she's praying she can prevent a PR fiasco and clean up a mess before things get out of hand, or worse, the blame falls on her.
Bane is an enforcer for the President, a hard job when he isn't quite sure where Tempest's loyalties truly are.
This done in one book stands nicely on its own while moving the overarching arc forward. Full of social commentary, in the best ways, this is a great example of how science fiction and fantasy novels can get us thinking about our own world and lives.
I was gifted with a copy of this book, chose to share my thoughts, and I'm looking forward to more in this series.
The story is the third book in the Cyborg Force series and will mainly focus on Tempest Waters, an Attorney working for President Kathryn Jordan’s administration, and Benjamin Bane, an enforcer. These two must learn to trust one another, their very lives depend on it.
The story’s plot will have Tempest secretly leaving Earth and heading to Sajave to meet with Breeze O’Day and Dr. Gayle Chambers at Geo-Tech. What a shock when she encounters Bane, who works for President Jordane as an enforcer—and he has followed her. What will Tempest do when she learns that MORE (Members Only Real Estate Corporation) and SEW (Solar Electric Wind) Solutions aren’t what they claim. Their plans could be altered, especially if the news gets out that the sand on Sajave is a sentiment Alien life-form.
The story is an enemies-to-lovers tale with plenty of angst, mystery, suspense, danger, and deceit. Not everyone is as they portray themselves to be. Good to bad and bad to good. Before Tempest arrives in Sajave she is in the sites of Benjamin Bane—a cyborg she had known and feared for several years. Now, he is sticking to her like glue.
“Temptation thy name is Tempest. I never should have touched her. She was stardust; I was the addict. The more contact I had with her, the more I craved. She could run, but she couldn’t hide. I couldn’t afford to care about her because I knew how her story would end.”
“Ignorance would kill you. Information is like having life insurance.”
What will happen when the truth comes to light? When the danger is breathing down your neck and you must decide who is the lesser of the evils? Now, Tempest must give her trust to Bane, someone she would rather avoid. Has she jumped from the frying pan into the fire?
Benjamin: Trust me. Please trust me. You make me feel. My emotions started to return after I met you. You did that for me. Tempest: You said if I kissed you, you’d let me have the bed. Benjamin: Did I say that? I meant I’d have you in the bed.
The story takes the reader on a journey of good and evil. Of those who believe they are doing the right thing and discover that they are caught up in a whirlwind of deceit and danger. It is finding someone who makes you feel alive and whole again. The chemistry between Benjamin and Tempest is strong, and they decide not to fight it—even if it is just for the present and not the future. While the story does not end on a cliffhanger, the epilogue does set up the fourth story in the series.
“It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”
“I couldn’t afford to care about her because I knew how her story would end.”
Holy moly, best book in the series. Whatever you do, do NOT read any reviews that discuss the plot. Believe me, you do not want to risk any spoilers. This book had so many twists and turns I could barely keep up and it was fantastic! I literally had no idea what would happen next. My stomach hurt and I even cried for these two. Bane broke my heart! Loosing his ability to feel any emotions is just a tragedy. I could tell buried inside there was this wonderful, honorable man. And Tempest! She desperately needed someone she could trust. So alone, so terrified, just trying to survive was almost more than she could bare. I just loved the two of them together!.
Tempest Waters works for the president's administration and has found, during her work, how corrupt it is. She is sent an advanced copy of a report on alien life on the planet Sajave which poses problems for the president. But you are expected to go to the president with solutions, and not problems. Tempest escapes Earth to do so under the radar, so to speak, hoping to discover more about the alien life form so that she can come up with a plan to mitigate its effects. However, she finds that Bane, a cyborg who has a reputation for being a cold-blooded killer is on her tail when he appears in the spaceship Tempest is travelling on. Bane works as one of the president's enforcers. Tempest is then faced with the problem of trying to get solutions while Bane is watching her every move.
A twist in this part of the story is that, as a part of his transition to being a cyborg, Bane's emotions have been seemingly wiped out. When he meets Tempest he experiences strange feelings of attraction to her which are alien to him. These feelings grow to the point that they provide conflict with Bane's role of protecting the president. People who are seen to present problems to the president are, euphemistically, removed from their posts.
The epilogue was rather strange in that it was pretty well a complete breakaway from the rest of the story. It would have been better if it had been written as the first chapter in the next book.
This was the most exciting book of the ones I have read so far as the storyline contained so many surprises along the way.
