A Very Vintage Holiday celebrates the joy and sentimentality associated with all the major holidays on the calendar, from Easter to Halloween to Christmas—and many more. Vintage decorations, customs, history, and lush images offer up great comfort, connection, and continuity in this fast-paced world. Each holiday is opportunity to slow down and connect. There’s a mindfulness associated with carving pumpkins, dying Easter eggs, or stringing popcorn and cranberry garlands that helps us to bond with loved ones in ways that both conjure up good memories and enable us to make new ones. Coupled with beautiful photographs, tips on collecting, and secret shopping haunts, A Very Vintage Holiday offers a 360-degree look at all the traditional and joyful ways we celebrate holidays and gives suggestions on how to make family heirlooms, vintage finds, and holiday activities work for today’s audience. Each chapter is focused on a different holiday and there is a common thread that runs through them the love of beautiful holiday decorations as well as an interest in their history, preservation, and relevance in today’s world. Now, more than ever, we need holidays to connect us. A Very Vintage Holiday helps the everyday collector and enthusiast make the most of what they’ve already collected and build upon it for future generations to enjoy.
Came for the Christmas, stayed for the rest. I follow Bob Richter online and love his aesthetics - his eye for detail is unmatched.
Slightly repetitive in terms of the ideas and memories, but generally speaking it's a great book for anyone who loves vintage and nostalgia. I borrowed this as an ebook and read it on my tablet (necessary for that full color experience!!) and do think that this book loses some of its splendor in a digital format. I would like to see this book on a coffee table because I'm sure it's much more stunning as a physical copy in real life.
I have read Bob's other books and follow him on Instagram. I love how he weaves in his family stories and history. He's just a few years older than me so we grew up in a common era. I bet his home is just magical.
3.5 A bit repetitive, but loved looking at all the vintage decorations! The author enjoys blow molds, honeycomb decor, and cutouts as much as I do, so it was really lovely to see those in his suggestions.
I love Bob’s zeal for the vintage life and decorating for all the holidays. His books always fill me with joy and remind me of the treasures that I surround myself with and the traditions I take part in throughout the year.
This book may not be for everyone but I love vintage items and decorating for holidays. This book shows how all of your vintage items can be used in creative ways to celebrate throughout the year. Well written, beautiful photographs, and a sense of enthusiasm that is contagious.
