Staying with Connor while recuperating from a fire that burned down her place is trying all of Raven's nerves, and really making her realize just how much she doesn't deserve love, especially from a great guy like him. So she bails without a word. Perhaps this time, Connor's patience and big heart will finally see that she's not the one for him.
Connor realizes when Raven ghosts him that it might finally be time to give up on the idea of anything with her. After all, she's treated him so badly as long as he's known her, so perhaps it's time he gets the point, she doesn't want him the way he wants her. But upon seeing her again, he sees something different about her. Does he stand a chance this time? Or is her brokenness too much for him to overcome?
Connor has the patience and the heart of a saint! I honestly do not know how he put up with Raven. She is...A LOT. Yes, she has good reason for her walls, but her treatment of him is downright malicious. I wouldn't have put up with her shit, but that he did means he's probably one of the sweetest, swooniest bbfs I've ever read. I ended up liking their story - it's emotionally complex and substantial and I love reading as Raven finally allowed herself to be vulnerable to Connor. I may have ended with still thinking Connor deserved better, but I can see what he saw in Raven and love that they got their happiness.
This book picks up where Book #6, Perfect Storm leaves off. Connor rescued Raven and his brother Caleb from a house fire and has taken her in as a roommate/patient to help with her recovery from smoke inhalation and burns. These two had a history of snapping at and pushing each other’s buttons.
I feel this book is fast paced and more to the point than the previous books in the series. Since the characters are all known from the previous books, the author had jumped right into the tension and attitude between Connor and Raven. I was a bit disappointed that the emotional breakthrough Raven had while getting to know Auntie Pat while renting the beach house in Bear Harbor was reduced to just a mention of what took place versus getting to see or experience that portion of the story.
When Raven comes back to town she’s ready to apologize and explain her past to Connor, and it’s heartbreaking and tragic. I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow and enjoy their sassy banter. Their dynamic goes from one extreme to the other with little segue or transition other than Raven’s three months away recovering. In love that they were able to have a HEA and focus their personalities towards loving each other instead of emotionally maiming each other with constant verbal attacks.
I love the Jackson’s and their significant others and friends. I’m looking forward to seeing what the author has in store for Lex and Frankie.
I received a free ARC from the author and 1852 Media; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
Free Fall is the seventh book set within the Life Sucks series, but could be read as a stand alone. Raven and Connor can’t stand each other, especially after her life threatening injury. But when she comes back after healing, a tentative truce is formed with the potential for so much more. Will Raven be able to let go of her past in order to find happiness, or will her past repeat itself and she’ll lose everything she loves?
Oh wow, this book was soooo good! I loved the tension that fill the early chapters, the tentative relationship that’s in the center, and all of the love, acceptance, beauty, and joy that the end brings, even alongside the pain and trials that come. Raven was this beautiful character that had such a painful past that she really needed to work through in order to find any type of happiness in her current life or future. Never feeling worthy, I adored the ways that she came to accept her past and love herself so that she could love others and receive love from them. Connor was happy and fortunate and this bright burst of sunshine and love into Raven’s heart. They almost had a reverse grumpy/sunshine dynamic that I was all for! I loved how they build their friendship and foundations to their relationship, I liked their passionate sides, but mostly, I loved how they learned to love and accept the other, even the not so glamorous aspects. There was enough outside tension in this book to add extra drama, which was amazing, and I felt like I was part of their family and friend group. I love this author, I love this series, and I loved this book!
This is Raven and Connor’s story. After Connor Jackson saves Raven from a fire that severely damaged her house, she’s staying at his house during her initial recovery. She’s a doctor, he’s a nurse. To say she is a trying patient is an understatement. Although we learn later why she treats Connor so poorly while he’s trying to help her recover, her treatment of Connor is…harsh.
Raven is carrying a lot of baggage with her. Connor is trying his best to understand why she’s being so difficult. She has not shared her burden with him. As the story unfolds, we learn the extent of her baggage…as does a her new neighbor (“Auntie” Pat) at a rental she escapes to…away from her friends and Connor. And yet for Connor, it was three long months before Raven returns to her once-burned home. No contact with Connor during that time. Left him wondering what had he done wrong? He has no idea what her demons are.
This truly a case of “it’s me, not you.” And although Auntie Pat helps Raven get perspective on her situation, Connor initially merely gets an apology from her. Being the wise and considerate man he is, he accepts her apology. Connor is a gem.
Later, he learns her true story. She opens up to him and their romance begins.
There are ups and downs, twists and turns in the story but all along there is support from the Jacksons for both Connor and Raven. What is in store for these two?
If you've read the previous books in this series, then you will have met Connor Jackson and Raven Montegro when Connor rescued Raven from the fire that ravaged her home. After the fire, when she is released from hospital, Raven goes to stay with Connor as he is a nurse and he can help with her recovery and therapies. These two hate each other, but no more than Raven hates herself! She believes that she is unworthy of love, so disappears without a word because she can sense her feelings for Connor growing and she doesn't want to get too attached to him or the rest of the Jackson's. It turns out, her beach hideout is the best thing to happen to her. She meets her neighbor, Auntie Pat, who listens to Raven and helps her to unravel the deep scars that her upbringing caused. When she feels she is able, Raven returns to her now repaired home. As Connor and Raven's friendship develops, they spend more time together and the chemistry becomes undeniable, but will Raven allow herself to be put in this vulnerable position again? This book is full of emotions, love, hate, loathing, trust and the heat when Connor and Raven get their HEA is combustible! Ms. Faber has a very distinctive style of writing that I love, and although it may not be to everyone's taste, her books are great stories and although this can be read as a standalone, being able to follow the lives of the other Jackson's and their friends is wonderful.
Elise has a way of making the most stubborn characters the most relatable. Connor knows that he wants to be with Raven but she treats him horribly (compared to everyone else). He is a nurse and is taking care of Raven while she recovers from her injuries sustained in a house fire. Unfortunately for him, she has some deep scars and emotional baggage that he might not be able to break through. Raven has a horrible past. Her parents (I use that term loosely) are not nice people and she feels responsible for her previous relationship and how it ended. She is attracted to Connor, so she works extra hard to act like she doesn’t want him around her. While taking care of her, he starts getting too close, so she runs and stays away for a few months. When she comes back, she still has things to deal with, but has she been able to realize that she does deserve love? I loved how they interacted and the underlying respect and love they have for each other. Just when you think things are going good, your heart gets ripped to shreds again and the past might tear them apart for good. I love this series and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
Raven Montergo and Conner Jackson are always giving each other hell. She's a doctor in a busy county hospital ER and Conner works there as a nurse. She is intertwined with his family so they are constantly in each other's way.
When her house burns down and she suffers smoke inhalation, second and third degree burns she ends up at Conner's house to heal with him taking care of her. After being there for a while she needs to get out and takes off ends up 4 hours away at a beach rental where she stays for 3 months.
Raven comes from a rough background and has issues that make her run when things get too much. She did a lot of soul searching while she was gone thanks to "Auntie Pat". She's back now easing back into work. Through this all Conner has been there for her and they start growing closer and become a couple even falling in love.
Just when things are going well for Raven the past comes calling again. Will this tear them apart?
4.5 Stars I really like Auntie Pat. Can't wait for Lex and Frankie's story.
I received a complimentary early release e-book prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the story about Raven and Connor Jackson. If you read the previous book, Perfect Storm, then you met Connor and Raven. At the end of Perfect Storm, there is a very bad fire and Connor saves his brother and Raven. You also know from that book that they HATE each but also work together at a hospital, he is a nurse, and she is a doctor.
In this book we get to see the recovery and aftermath and we also learn all Ravens secrets and why she pushes Connor away and more about how they really feel for each other. My heart kind of hurt for Connor because he has real feelings for Raven and yet she is one tough cookie and constantly pushes him away.
There is some drama in this story relating to Raven's mother. But it made the story more exciting and really better explained why Raven was the way she was and feared relationships. I loved the addition of Lex to the story and cannot wait to see what happens with him and Frankie.
Free Fall is a friends-to-lovers romance that is full of heartbreak, hope and love. Ms. Faber gives us the story of Connor and Raven, two friends that have been thrown together because of a tragedy. Raven is staying with Connor since her house caught on fire and she almost died. The only problem is that they love to hate one another. Connor is a nurse and the best person to take care of Dr. Raven. Unable to stay, because her past has come back in full force to haunt her, Raven takes off to see if she can find herself and get over everything that has happened. Returning to her new home, Connor is right there wanting to be there for her and boy their love to hate has turned to just plain love. Pasts are discussed, apologies are shared and feelings are brought to the surface. Free Fall is one story that will pull on your heartstrings, have you swooning all over Connor and wanting to hug Raven and tell her that she is someone who deserves to be loved and cared for.
4 Star review of Free Fall (Life Sucks #7) by Elise Faber Having read a number of books by Elise Faber I couldn’t wait to read Free Fall. Although a stand-alone I do feel that you might enjoy this book a little more if you read the previous books first, however that is just my opinion. This was an entertaining, emotional read that ticked a number of boxes for me and is Connor Jackson and Raven Montergo’s story. The sparks most certainly fly between these two, in fact you could almost say they sizzled and not always in a good way. From the first chapter I was invested in the story that Ms. Faber wove. The chemistry between these two build and it’s intensity was overwhelming at times. Their journey to love and happiness was not smooth but it was certainly entertaining and one that I enjoyed.
Free Fall is an story of healing not only physically but emotionally for Raven as she finds her way with the help of her friends, especially Connor who has been by her side or has at least tried to and Aunt Pat, a woman who showed up in Ravens life when she needed her the most.
Raven can be a bit prickly especially with Connor and keeps her walls up about her past and the abuse she suffered through at the hands of her parents. She doesn’t feel like she deserves love but it is through all these amazing people by her side that she finally realizes that she does deserve to be happy and find love and that love is with Connor. Connor has a heart of gold and is determined to help her heal from her brokenness and he is doing this with his unending kindness and patience because he sees the beautiful person inside and out.
This is the 7th book in this incredible series, and this is Connor and Raven’s journey. Raven is a doctor and when she gets badly hurt in a fire which destroyed her home, Connor takes her in and he is determined to take care of her, despite the way she treats him. When Raven disappears and ghosts Connor, he decides that maybe they are not meant to be. These two know how to push each other’s buttons. Raven has had such a tough life and when she meets Aunty Pat, it is just who she needs. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, which is tragic, with family, friendships, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, action, romance, and love, which leads to a heartwarming and entertaining page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Free Fall, book seven in the Life sucks series begins from the end of book six, and follows Connor Jackson and Raven Montegro. When Connor rescues his brother Caleb and Raven from a house fire he doesn’t expect to have a new roommate when he offers to let her stay with him to recover, though as they are constantly fighting with each other, eventually Raven leaves town for three months while she recovers from her burns and smoke inhalation. Along the way Raven bonds with her new “auntie Pat” and the baggage she carries from her past, and Raven begins her slow process of healing both physically and emotionally. Eventually Raven decides to return home, and upon her return, she and Connor form a truce of sorts where Raven opens up about her past. Can Raven truly let go of her past? Or will her past keep them from having a future?
Raven is a doctor and Connor is a nurse at the same hospital. Connor is one of the Jacksons but he feels inadequate as his siblings are all military or along those lines and in his eyes he's just a nurse. Raven has liked Connor but he seems to keep her at arms length. When Raven's injured in a fire, Connor steps in to take care of her and give her a place to recover, along with being under his care. Their banter back and forth is rough and real.
Raven leaves for awhile and when she returns, she wants to fix things with Connor. Connor would wait forever for her, but she has no clue how he truly feels. As they work on repairing things, Connor is injured. Will Raven help him the way he helped her? Will her past stand in the way?
We also see more of Frankie and Lex and I really can't wait for their storyline.
This series really brings out a lot of situations from real life that, just for a second you forget that you're actually reading a book.
Connor and Raven have been giving each other headaches every time they interact. It got very heated when she was injured and he was taking care of her, which led to her running. But now she's back and more sure of all her fears, but it's not easy to ask forgiveness when you're still trying to make sense of your life. Neither of them know who to act around each other. But when she opens up to him, he knows there's no stopping the overwhelming feelings they both have. They really are a perfect pair in every sense of the word and I'm so happy after everything that has happened they are able to be at peace in each other's arms.
This books can be read as a standalone, I think you would get more enjoyment reading others in the series though. Connor is such a sweetheart through this whole read and he has put up with a lot of crap from Raven, he still cares for her though. He is definitely a book boyfriend. Raven starts off pretty cranky(nice way of putting it), as the book continues you find out why and start to root for her and them. There are twists you dont expect and steamy moments in this fantastic read, I read in one sitting and couldn't put it down. I love Elise Faber's books and I can't wait for the next one!!!
I received an ARC of this book, all opinions are my own.
After a fire turns Raven’s life upside down Connor doesn’t hesitate to have her stay with him while she heals. He has feelings for her despite the walls she has built to keep him away but whatever he does never seems to be enough especially when she leaves with no explanation or further contact.
Raven has a difficult past and is scared of letting anyone too close. She believes the only way to protect herself if by distancing herself from those who care about her however he is never far from her thoughts and she must decide if the reward of being with him is worth the risk?
Connor is so supportive and understanding while Raven tries to overcome the turmoil of her past as they take us on a emotional journey which is at times tumultuous and at times heartwarming.
Raven is a doctor in A and E. Connor's brothers are married to her friends. She works with Connor, he's a nurse. Then her home is destroyed in a fire and needs lots of renovations and replacements. So she ends up staying in Connor's guest room, she needs her burn dressings changing. She's started to have feelings for him but because of her upbringing her self esteem is at zero, even though she's worked so hard to get from a trailer to being a doctor with her own home. This is a brilliant story about families, how they aren't always the ones you are born into but the one you make along the way.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Doctor(her)/Nurse(him), healing from injury, healing from childhood trauma, and just the right amount of spice.
I gave this book 4 stars because when you start the book you kind of feel as if you are picking up a few chapters late. For me personally, I would have liked a bit more at the beginning.
This is not the first book in the series but can be read as a complete stand alone. However, with the note above having read the previous book in the series will help with that feeling. Everything you need to know will be given to you. However once you read this book you will want to read the rest!
Free Fall is a wonderful read. Raven has a lot a healing to do and she is stronger than she looks. I love how Connor tries to help Raven heal from her injuries. Raven is a runner from her past and with reason. She is a survivor. Connor comes from a huge family with big hearts. You feel for Connor with how Raven has treated him. Raven needs her space and once she figures things out your heart goes out to her. I love the chemistry between Raven and Connor as this one goes on. I love how Connor helps heal Raven further. This was an amazing read I could not get enough of. Go one click this one and meet Raven and Connor today.
This is the seventh book in the series. Another Jackson sibling is up. This is Raven and Connor's story. my heart goes out to raven. Life has really put her through the emotional ringer, but the life she has created with her group of friends who are family is the rainbow after the storm. Though you can see the internal struggle she deals with, but luckily she finds Aunt Pat. Connor is prime book boyfriend material. He truly has a heart of gold and a protective heart as well. This book pulls on the heartstrings and packs the feels. It also delivers on the humor. I just love this bunch. The set up for the next all I can say is oh my gosh! I really can't wait to read it!!
Free Fall is Book 7 in the Life Sucks Series but Connor Jackson and Raven Montergo’s entertaining and emotional journey can certainly be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone. I was drawn in from the first chapter and there as no putting down until I had read the final line and knew where this couples journey finished. It was easy to like Connor and Raven and once you add in the scorching hot chemistry you not only get an entertaining read you also get a steamy read as well. The sparks fly from the first page and not always in a good way but I found myself cheering this couple on. A book with all the feels that ticked my boxes.
Free Fall is a friends (maybe enemies?) to lovers addition to the Life Sucks series. Connor and Raven butt heads even though it seems like neither one of them knows exactly why. Despite the fact that they spend time in the same circle of people, there's a wall between them. I've read the rest of the series going into this one so I know how close-knit the characters are, but this could be read as a standalone. The focus is mostly on Raven's emotional recovery from a house fire rather than her physical injuries, and Connor does everything in his power to be there even though Raven isn't always on board. There was a lot of emotion packed into this fast paced book, I really enjoyed it!
This book picks up were Perfect Storm left off with Raven's house burned down and Connor saving his brother and Raven but she could care less she has to stay with Connor he's a nurse and she may be a Doctor but she has awful bedside manor. There like oil and water she makes Connor's life difficult but under all that hostility there is something else and you wonder if Connor will ever get past all of Raven's walls but just as they may be moving forward Raven panics and leaves for 3 months to finish her recovery and deal with her past and with the help of her neighbor Pat she starts to see herself and her awful past in a different light. And Connor who was left wondering what he did wrong will finally get his answers. I think Connor is incredibly patient and forgiving as for Raven well she starts out as less then pleasant and may not be my favorite character in this series I was glad she worked threw her trust issues and her past pain to make things work with Connor.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
I loved Connor and Raven’s story! Raven is a doctor and Connor is a nurse. When her house catches fire, he saves her and others that were there. He brings her into his home to recuperate. She’s not very cooperative. Sparks fly and tension is thick as their relationship starts. I couldn’t help but fall for this couple. They were perfect together. When Raven’s past shows it’s ugly head will the couple survive? This story kept me engaged with a great blend of emotions, drama, steam and amazing romance. I loved Free Fall! It was a fantastic addiction to the Life Sucks series!
Free Fall by Elise Faber is book 7 in the Life Sucks Series. This is the story of Connor Jackson and Raven Montegro. Raven is hurt after a house fire and although she and Connor don't get along, she goes to stay with him to recover. Raven is a Dr and Connor is a Nurse so he can help her. But when she starts to get feeling for Connor and the family she runs. This lands her to meet her neighbor 'Auntie" Pat who helps her with her emotional baggage. This starts their story. Enjoyed.
This book picks up were bock 6 finished. Connor rescuing Raven which means he supposed to be her hero and she should fall for him. Especially since he gave her a roof to live under after her home caught fire. But there is this huge demon from the past and she fights there attraction. I enjoyed reading there story and seeing all the Jackson’s again. It’s a quick read and with lots of love and fighting your past. Can’t wait for the next book to read
Conner and Raven don’t get along. When a house fire leaves a doctor, Raven homeless Conner, RN offers his home for her recovery. And her physical therapist. They know each other from working together, makes sense, right? Wrong. Ravens’ stubbornness and independent attitude rages. Conner can only take so much. Watching them work out their issues independent of each other, makes for an emotional read. When they come together, well that’s the icing on the cake
An enemies-to-lovers story, though the enemy part was more of a cover for true feelings. Raven was strong, intelligent, determined, and trying to keep Connor at bay. Connor took great pleasure in pushing Raven's buttons, but when it counted, he was there for her. I enjoyed the witty banter between them as well as their journey to understanding their feelings.
I received a copy of this story through 1852 Media, and this is my unsolicited review.
She's a doctor. He's a nurse. Her house catches on fire. He saves her along with some of his family. She recuperating at his house being very snarky and stubborn. His family loves her and thinks of her as family. He doesn't understand her attitude towards him. This well written book is a attention keeping, emotional, action packed entertainment. This is Raven and Connor's story.
