The Council Gods Are Brutal. The Lesser Gods Are Worse. I'm All That Stands Between Them...
You won't find me in the lore of the gods, but I'm there, hidden between the lines. Whenever the lesser gods torture humanity, creating armies of supernatural beasts to rain hell down on the innocent, it's my job to stand against the tidal wave of pain and death.
I like my job. It's fun, even if the gods are assholes.
But in the thousands of years I've been running this gig, I've never seen the lesser gods pull together as a team. They've always been way too selfish and power-hungry for that.
Until now, apparently.
Perses, one of the lesser gods, has somehow managed to corral them into a unit of death and destruction, and the council has recognized their creation--me--isn't capable of handling it alone. So, for the first time since I've been doing this, I'm being forced to run a team of people who need to learn the ins and outs of what I do.
It ain't easy, especially since my new crew wasn't exactly built for this kind of mayhem. That's what happens when you take a bunch of normals and gift them with immortality, I suppose.
If we fail, the lesser gods will find their way onto the council, and that'll spell doom for the world as we know it.

This was so good. Reminds me a lot of The Antiheroes by Jacob Peppers. Humor, bloodlust, plenty of snark from awesome characters that don’t mesh well at first but end up complimenting each other in ways. I enjoyed this and can’t wait til the next book!

The traditional Greek Gods stand in supremacy in the heavens, but their current stance disallows them from interfering much with the world of normals. But what happens when lesser gods try to ascend and infringe upon their territory? They whip out their tool! No, literally, smut-brain. Grave was created as the tool to address this periodic scenario, and he enjoys his work. But, when the loners among the lesser gods finally decide to band together for a major push, the powers that be must are forced into a decision they never thought they'd have to make - give the tool a team. The result, sort of the Dirty Dozen meets Dungeons & Dragons, keeps supplying the hits and the laughs in one hell of an introduction to a new series. Way too much fun for a book 1.

Love it!
This is such a fun book to read! The one liners are awesome.
So we have Grave Digger, a solitary figure created by the gods to destroy supernaturals…vampires, werewolves and the like. The most important of these dupes to be destroyed are soul eaters. They are created by the lesser gods trying to form an army that will make them strong enough to try for a seat on the god council.
We follow along as Grave (GD) as he goes about his job, enjoying his life to the fullest. Until a monkey wrench is thrown into the mix. The lesser gods are joining together for nefarious purposes and it will be up to Grave Diggers, along with his new team, to stop whatever they have up their sleeves.
I look forward to more shenanigans as we follow the battle.

Mythically Good
This great new series from JPL showcases exactly how the gods war went and how un beknown to the human race is still on going as the Gods use monsters against humans. Now comes out hero Grave a kinda anti hero gifted with powers by the Gods to keep everyone in line. This is a gruff kick ass immortal who as seen it and done it all but he seems to be quite likeable in his own way with an interesting backstory and of course cool weapons and abilties to plow through masses of monsters in well crafted action scenes. Wonderful engaging and typical of JPLs writing style.

Grave was created by the gods to keep “some” of them in check? Like the Lesser gods? Grave is tasked with the job of putting together a team to stop the lesser gods from their plot to get onto the council and change the world and not for the better. Since he has always worked alone Grave is finding it a challenge to be a team player. On top of that his team is anything but conventional former priest, nuns? An adorable dog, a ferryman and an individual from a destroyed world? What could go wrong? Loved the story and the totally different direction this story took! What a great.

Mistakes: I didn’t find anything wrong with this book. Very well written with more than a few laughs.
Plot: It’s about the guy that cleans up after the gods. Basically keeping the lesser gods from messing with the humans to much. But now that the lesser gods are joining forces what was once a one man job is going to take a team effort. So who to recruit for the god stomping team? You guessed it, mortals! And one very good girl!
Characters:Oh it’s a fun bunch. Their interactions with each other had me laughing.
Just don’t destroy the duck again!

It's true - gods are a$$h*les. So when they get out of line - as they do - that's where Grave Digger comes in. But he's only one, whatever he is, and when a god and his allies get up to serious no-good, Grave needs help. Easy-peasy, right? For a millennia-old loner to learn to play well with others? Right.
Grave is the least likable guy you'll come to love, and his team is bucketloads of fun to watch navigate one heck of a learning curve. Enjoy!

interesting mythology
Interesting story with gods and immortals and a fight between good and evil, with a few twists. The story is amusing in places, and I really liked Mitzy the dog, the characters are a mixed group, with some obvious references to Role playing quests with a hint of Dungeons and Dragons thrown in. The ending was interesting and there was a definite lead into the next story.

Likeable characters but not my thing.
I’m a 66 year old woman. I like a good battle scene as much as anyone, but although it had its good points, I’d qualify this as a “boy book.” If you’re into D&D, snarky language, and constant slaughter you may like this. Except for interesting references to the Greek gods - and it takes a bit of figuring because they all have made up nicknames - I’ll take a pass on the rest of the series.

Disappointing.
Not sure why I had such high hopes for this one. Maybe the GR rating, maybe the reviews, but I was hoping for a nice read.
Oh well.
The characters were boring and the plot sounds better in theory. Maybe it's just the writing style that I don't like.

All I can say is wow,! What a great start to a new world, and new characters. From the beginning this book is off to a fast and exciting start. And of course, there is a group of trouble makers, making trouble, but what is it that they are really after?
And my favorite character is Mitzy (surprise!). You won’t want to put it down once you start!

A new favorite series for sure!
Holy moly! John P. Logsdon has hit this one out of the park! The world is both recognizable and a richly built world for the gods. I loved seeing how Grave Digger, a lone warrior for the major gods, was forced to form a team in order to combat the lesser gods. Grave Digger’s sarcasm is delightful, but my favorite character HAS to be Mitzi.

This, the first book in a new series, is classic John P Logsdon. If you love his PPD series (and, let's face it, who doesn't) then this is definitely for you.
An enthralling new series that literally grabs you by the throat, this is full of wit, brilliant storytelling and characters that jump off the page .... and Mitzy!

Fun with supernaturals
Intrigue among the gods of mythology leads to the creation of a new team to battle whatever the intrigue may be. Irreverent humor, plenty of battles, and characters you can only like while rolling your eyes makes this an entertaining start of a series. Realistically, close to 4 or 4.5 stars.

Fun mythical novel with great characters. I loved the humorous approach the author has with this book. I can honestly say it encaptivated me. Well developed worldbuilding that created this interesting time and place, with an MC that had me in stitches.
Brilliant read that I am now off to get the next book in the series.

Grave New World is the first book in the new Grave Digger Mythos series. Judging by this book, the series promises to be funny, exciting and filled with interesting and diverse characters. I am eagerly anticipating the next instalment!

Fantastic book! I will be counting the days until the next one.
Gods as seen by the dogsbody that has to clean up after them, a dog with an unholy fetish for attacking nether regions and a team of reprobates that only a leader could salvage. Gotta love it!

I dug this book
Excellent storyline. Very funny at times. The characters were awesome and the action non-stop. The fight scenes were amazing and Grave Digger pulled his team together to win.

Mythos Gods Gone Wild
Grave Digger needs some help and right now too. This first book gathers the team and works through some battles to get them ready for the big games. I really liked the new teammates especially Mitzy. I look forward to the next books. Check it out.

Good read
I enjoyed reading this book. Interesting characters and story. Has a view gods and the supernatural that I have not read before. Definitely want to see how things unfold for Grave's crew.

Compelling read
This book is a great new take on religion. It’s fast paced and humorous in spots. I love the Grave Digger and his squad. They really stretch the imagination.

This book was my first read by this author but hobbit won't be the last. Loved the characters,story everything in fact. I cannot wait to start reading the next book . I totally recommend.

Great read! Haven't read an urban fantasy this good since I started following the Chicago Wizard. Which this book didn't duplicate. Grave and Company have their own style with some D&D thrown in. Only part that was a little down was the Priest's world getting turned upside down.

Awesome read
I've read plenty of books , but I have to say I6 laughed and rooted for the characters so much so I was disappointed when I got to the end and it took a few minutes to dl the next book. Keep it up. you're a wonderful author.

Grave Digger is way different than his other series but just as good!
This crazy series is really different from the others but just as much fun! Grave digger is a crazy hero! Glad there are many more to this series.

Total Kick Butt Story
Action packed and full of humor, just what I like. This story was a great start to the series and had me in stitches on some of the scenes. Loved it.
