What if you’re struggling to believe that God is truly faithful? The Bible teaches that God is always faithful, that He’s always TRUE to HIS WORD. Saints throughout history have affirmed it, and hymns and worship songs celebrate it. But what if it doesn’t look that way to you? You’re not alone. The Bible is full of examples of God’s children struggling to trust him in seasons of disappointment, discouragement, danger, disaster, depression, and deep grief—only to see God’s faithfulness to them manifest in surprising ways. These meditations are designed to help you grow in your ability to recognize God’s faithfulness in places you may not typically look, at times you don’t expect, and in providences—especially the most disturbing and devastating ones—that often don’t look like God’s faithfulness. Because the more you see it, the more wonderful God’s faithfulness becomes to you. And the more you’ll realize that “all the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness” (Psalm 25:10). Because God is faithful, we can fight the good fight . . . one day at a time, by trusting that He will always be true to His Word.
I serve as Author, Board Chair, and Co-founder at Desiring God and find it a great joy to help others believe and delight in Jesus Christ. I am deeply in love with my wife, Pam, adore my five children and most of the time feel affection for my naughty dog. We make our home in Minneapolis.
Have you ever feared that God would not be faithful? In True to His Word, Jon Bloom presents 100 meditations on the faithfulness of God.
With just over 200 pages, this book is a treasure of biblical truth. The book title is the definition of what it means to be faithful - and Bloom shows that this is always true of God.
Disappointments and Deliverance
Showing examples of God’s faithfulness throughout redemptive history — this book highlights different promises, commands, prophecies, and parables. Each chapter is a meditation about 2 pages long, beginning with a passage and ending with a prayer.
What this book does most well is display God’s faithfulness in disappointments. For instance, Bloom examines Exodus 2:25, teaching the truth that God sees and knows you. While God might seem to delay, he knows what he is doing. As we sojourn with Jesus, our hope in heaven guarantees his faithful deliverance.
Focus on God’s Faithfulness
I was most challenged to see how God is faithful to hear our prayers for our children. Bloom says this is a lifelong calling, for their story is not over until the very end. No matter how he answers, and especially in regard to the salvation of our children, God is faithful to hear our prayers and will not allow our labor to be in vain.
Warm, encouraging and hopeful - this book will direct your gaze towards God. It will focus you on his faithfulness with scriptural support. You will trust him more, and find rest in his Word.
I received a media copy of True to His Word and this is my honest review.
True to His Word was a delight to read! I read straight through it, but this really would be a great book to go through more slowly and do as a daily devotional.
There is a verse or passage at the top of each page and suggested prayer at the end of each devotional. There is suggested further Bible reading as well that go along with each reading.
There was a lot addressed in this book of different ways God is faithful to His people and how that applies to our daily lives. This book is very applicable and continually points us back to God's faithfulness and our need and dependence on Christ. It both encourages and convicts and I felt like Jon Bloom did a good job of using Scripture appropriately throughout. He uses a lot of Scripture and points us back to God's Word and His promises to us. Also, I love the eye catching cover! The watermarked pages inside are beautifully done.
This is a book I will come back to and would love to reread as a daily devotional.
It's been a while since Bloom's last book and I was eager to grab a copy of his latest when I saw reference to it.
We live in troubled times and as a result we can question God's faithfulness in so many different aspects of life! Bloom provides 100 specific instances of how God is faithful in short 2-3 page reflections. Each reflection is based on a Bible verse (many of which are well known) followed by Bloom's commentary on the area of life being considered. He concludes each reflection with a short prayer for increased faithfulness and encourages us to embellish our own thoughts on the topic with a suggested Bible reference.
As always with Bloom, everything is Biblically based and well constructed which is both encouraging and convicting. Some days are better than others but generally this is a very good set of meditations on the faithfulness of God.
Profound wisdom in literally every mediation. I can honestly say this book is worth its weight in gold. I found myself underlining and highlighting so much of the material and being both comforted and challenged every time I read it.
There’s so many quotes I wish I could include so I’ll just stick with this one: “faith is not a muscle we need to build up to be strong enough to trust Jesus. Faith is ‘resting on’ Jesus as the Faithful One because faith is our response to seeing Jesus as strong enough to bear our anxious burdens and meet our needs”
Most Christians know God is faithful, but when life’s circumstances cause our faith to wobble, we need someone to remind us of what we know is true. Jon Bloom is that someone. In True to His Word, he asks the hard questions and answers them with sound theology anchored in God’s Word. With compassion and kindness, he shores up our trembling faith and gives us 100 reasons to trust God.

I believe this is third book by Jon Bloom that I’ve read and I have been so blessed by his insight and wisdom that he brings to the Word of God. We may not agree on everything, but he absolutely brings the truth in his books.
