Grandma moves to Florida and the family comes to visit for the first time for Thanksgiving. Instead of baking pies she goes to tap class and instead of making Thanksgiving dinner for her family she takes them to some seafood restaurant full of seniors. The family seems to be OK with all these changes by the end, which I guess is a nice sentiment. But I'd be pissed if this happened to me. Plus the illustrations are awful.

my kids and I enjoyed reading this book. I thought that the story was cute and I liked the little message that went with the book. I would recommend this book to others.

Tina's family is in for a surprise when they expect a traditional thanksgiving after grandma moved to Florida.
A wonderful reminder that new traditions are ready to be made!

A Visit to Grandma's is a hilarious book about a family who goes to visit grandma for the Thanksgiving holiday only to find out that she is a completely different person from who they last knew and is living a completely new life. The whole family is disappointed to find out that they won't be having grandma's famous pies, turkey dinner, or beloved farm. Grandma has a whole new life now that involves a red convertible, trips to the beach, water aerobics, and going out to eat for Thanksgiving. As one could imagine, the family is less than thrilled about these changes until they actually have the chance to experience them for themselves and they learn that the new Grandma is actually way more fun and hip than the old Grandma!
This last statement goes along with the craft of the author who has an awesome beginning, along with an awesome ending to the book. The beginning discusses how much they will miss the old farm and what they are used to. Throughout the book, the family continues to be disappointed in the changes that grandma has suggested. By the end of the book, the whole family realizes that they actually love grandma's new way of life and they wouldn't want it any other way if that's what makes her happy. This is a great way to hook the reader into the book and a great way to end the book on a positive note!
