When my mother and step-father moved from Webster, NH to Kittery, Me back in 1967 they bought a beautiful house right on the water across from the "backside" of the Navy Yard. For some reason my mother became infatuated with whales and began to acquire books(mostly) and artwork featuring them. Their two cars had vanity plates with Scandinavian words for whale(HVALR) and calf(KALV) I'm sure that most people upon seeing these had NO idea what they meant. Anyway, this book is selected to represent my mom's books, some of which I read all or part of. Now that I think of it I'm not sure this infatuation didn't begin in New Hampshire. At any rate it was a LONG time ago but I'm reading Moby Dick now and I just remembered this. Ahhh - the past!
