I took a couple of courses about grammar and linguistics in 2016, and I found them very interesting. I learned about subjects such as descriptive and prescriptive grammar and about how stigma and prestige relate to how we perceive people based on how they speak. So I decided to choose this book to further my understanding of linguistics.
Why Do Linguistics? is easy to read and easy to understand. It includes examples of how language is used from different perspectives such as cultures, countries, education, and business.
I recommend this book to educators and people working with people whose first language is not English. I also recommend it to everyone who is interested in or curious about sociolinguistics.
