Jet finds herself going from slave owned by the Royals to honorary member of the Royal family, pretty much overnight. It doesn't take her long to figure out this is hardly a prize, however, and that her new role as Laksri's official consort is likely to get her killed. Meanwhile, the Ringmaster Trazen, doesn't seem to have backed off at all, despite Jet's new-found status, and if anything, seems more determined than ever to put Jet in her place as a 'mammal' and a slave.

As the political intrigues in the Green Zone grow more elaborate and deadly, Jet has even less idea who to trust than before, and pretty soon, it becomes clear that the only way she'll survive the Rings, Richter and the Nirreth is if she carves out her own path apart from all of them.

This one had me on the edge of my seat. I was having my doubts about every single character. Then I was having doubts about those doubts. The tale just keeps getting better. Where is book 4, JC?!?

“The New Order” is the third installment in the “Alien Apocalypse” series by J.C. Andrijeski, a NA dystopian sci-fi/fantasy series set in a futuristic version of Earth at the brink of environmental breakdown and invaded by aliens (Nirreth), who prey on humans, using them for food and different kinds of entertainment, while intended on ‘nirrethforming’ Earth to their lizard-like needs.

Jet Tetsuo, the human protagonist, who has been living as a slave in the Royal Nirreth household until now, finds herself abruptly in the position of an honorary member of the Royal family, which tons of strings attached. Because, in reality, the position only brings complications. Now as the official consort of Laksri, Jet is been threatened from all fronts. The Nirreth, first and foremost Ringmaster Trazen, would love to put that ‘human’ (and former slave) in her place. The humans see Jet status as treason and Richter is just interesting in use her for his goals. Jet soon realizes, that in order to survive, she would have to find a way out and a solution on her own.

“The New Order” is a well-crafted, action-rich, fast-paced, and easy-to-read story, written in Andrijeski’s unparalleled style, a blend of urban fantasy, erotic romance and dystopia that flows seamlessly through the pages, with an original world-building and interesting characters. Twist and unexpected turns await behind the corners, while the story-arch and the main character develop further ahead.

Jet transferred from the status of a slave owned by the Royal family to an honorary member of that Royal family overnight. It is not really a prize s her role as Laksri's official consort is likely to get her killed. At the same time, the Ringmaster Trazen has not backed off and seems to be more determined to put her back in her place as a "mammal" and slave. Political intrigue has become more elaborate and deadly and she has even more confusion as to who to trust. It soon seems clear to Jet that she can only survive the Rings if she carves out her own path away from Richter and the Nirreth. Can Jet survive all of this intrigue?

The was definitely a rich book when it comes to political changes, confusion and arguments between all of them at different points. There were times when it became a bit tedious with all of Jet's analysis and determination which made her appear really stupid and easy to manipulate. After a while, it became just a little tedious and I was tempted to skip forward a little just to avoid it. Generally well written and easy to read and understand. Now I can't help wondering what happens next as it all ended with a step change in this book so I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Ok, quite frankly I’m not a big fan of apocalypse themed stories, but I’ve read and very much enjoyed other books by JC Andrijeski so I figured it was worth trying her new series as it’s on KU so was low risk. I’m really glad I did as this was fantastically addictive wonderful stuff. Now available in a single bookset, The Complete Alien Apocalypse Series (Parts I-IV Plus Bonus Novella), and I’d highly recommend that as, please trust me, you’ll not be able to stop until reaching the end. This crazy mashup “Apocalyptic, Romantic, Science Fiction, Alien Invasion Adventure” somehow works perfectly. I loved the plot line in each darn book, all of which flowed into a great story line filled with a perfectly crafted cast of lead and supporting characters, and all tied up with a bow of superb writing. Really fantastic stuff and I very much highly recommend each book and (for anyone coming to this fir the first time) the boxset.

The New Order: Alien Apocalypse Part III

Holy hell this book has so many twists & turns my head & especially my heart were spinning!😳 Jet begins to lose trust in everyone close to her. They're holding too much back when she's in so much danger, more than ever in fact, with Laks new position!👑 Anaze risks everything because of jealousy and Trezen is showing more interest than is healthy!😭

This book was a much more like what I'm used to from this author. Jet still got lost in contemplation but not to the extent as the previous books, thankfully.🙏 The contradictory feelings of Jet & Laks burgeoning love story were just as interesting to me.😍 It's pretty emotive overall actually. I'm diving straight into book #4.🌟

I received The New World Order, book 3 of the Alien Apocalypse (formerly Slave Girl Chronicles), as a free copy from the author/publisher. The gifting of the Alien Apocalypse box set did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. The action in this segment wasn't as tension-filled as the prior book, but the author made up for it with twists and forward progression in both the relationships and storyline. Starting book four right away!

Really enjoyable tale

I really enjoyed this segment of the story. I did get a little tired of so much inner voice on Jet’s part and why the author resisted expressing her liking or not liking for Leks. However I am so pleased the last segment is next so I can find out what really happens!

Amazing storytelling

Poor Jet never gets a fair go but man is she strong! And it’s becoming difficult to sort the good from the just plain evil. This book did not go where I thought it might. Better though. It’s bouts of adrenaline rush and death and battles in the rings. Absolutely riveting stuff. I’m on to the next one.

So many twists and turns

So much it's happening in this book, so many plot twists, I read as fast as I could, devouring each page, but there was so much more I needed to know. Who is everyone really and what is the truth?

Series gets better with each installment. At first, I had trouble suspending belief in a romantic hero with dark blue skin and a tail that could administer a venom sting, but this writer is very convincing!

The Slave Girl Chronicles - Part 3 - The New Order by JC Andrijeski

In the third book of The Slave Girl Chronicles, we once again meet Jet, a human who is caught up in the intrigue and politics of the alien race that have conquered Earth.

The Nirreth came to Earth to escape their dying planet. Humans are reduced to Skags who scavenge the wastelands that the Earth has become. However, the Nirreth have created Green Zones which is where the aliens now live. These Green Zones are beautiful and abundant and nothing like the devastated areas that the remaining free humans inhabit.

In Book One, Jet was captured or "culled" and taken to the Green Zone against her will. She had grown up believing that those who were "culled" became food for the Nirreth. There was good reason for these rumors, as it did happen in the early days of the Nirreth invasion, however, that practice is now banned.

In Book Two, Jet learns that she is a pawn in a game of politics and intrigue. She becomes a fighter in The Rings and wins her first match, which has never happened before. She also becomes lovers with a Nirreth named Laksri. Jet becomes a willing (if somewhat reluctant) participant in bringing down the ruling Royal Nirreth family. Laksri is named as the new ruler at the end of Book 2 and tells Jet that he wants her to become his princess.

At the beginning of Book 3, Jet has participated in and won more matches in The Rings and has become something of a celebrity. This is also due to the fact that she is now the Princess.
Jet is becoming much more involved in the intricacies of the political side of the Nirreth. Her goal is to make the lives of her fellow humans better and to somehow get them out of the devastated areas they live in currently and have them relocate to Green Zones.
However, there are many Nirreth and humans who do not want to live in harmony with each other and Jet is aware that if her political agenda is pushed too far, too fast, she runs the risk of either herself or Laksri being assassinated.
She and Laksri have been lovers only once, however, he stings her and injects her with his venom on a regular basis. This sting started out as a way to control her (in book one) and has now evolved. When she is stung, she is linked to Laksri and it affords them the ability to sense how each other are feeling, as well as the ability to communicate silently with each other.

However, when she discovers that any Nirreth sting has lasting effects on the brain of the person being stung, she begins to mistrust her growing feelings for Laksri. Are they real? Or are they only the result of the multitude of times he has sting her?

Meanwhile, Anaze, Richter and Laksri are all involved in a plot to hide Laksri's criminal past. And, as usual, Jet is caught up in the intrigue through no choice of her own.

Book Three is another terrific read and continues to draw the reader into the lives of the characters. Jet continues to evolve as a complex and realistic character. The reader is able to see her dilemma and relate to her struggles, both internal and external.

Jet faces a turning point when she realizes that: "Richter had been right. Humans were iseless against the Nirreth. Their superior technology wasn't the issue. They could actually change the content of human minds... their very hearts. Any being who could do that, could essentially erase the will of it's victims."

What a truly horrifying concept!

The book takes a surprising twist in the last few chapters which I am happy to admit that I did not see coming. This is a rare occurrence for me. I usually spot the plot twists coming and I am very rarely surprised.

This book is another thrilling chapter in the drama that is The Slave Girl Chronicles. Book three is just as good as book one and even the trip to Astet (the Nirreth's original home world) is so vividly rendered that the reader is drawn into the journey.

Well written and exquisitely details make this book all the more believable and make the characters both compelling and relatable.

You might wonder why I think that a post apocalyptic heroine would be relatable, but all I have to say to that is: you need to read this series, then you will understand.

I am eagerly awaiting the 4th book in the series.

I rate this book as 5 out of 5 stars.

This one was the best of the series so far, although the end sucked. If I'd been waiting for a sequel it would have upset me and I probably would have given it one star.

Still, the story is a solid four stars for suspense and plot twists. I took a star off for the occasional "huh?" in the plot as well as the significant need for a more diligent copy editor.

On to book four, The Rebellion, of which Goodreads does not have it listed. I may have to do a combined review here for both books.

UPDATE June 13
Completed book 4 in this series - The Rebellion, and upgraded the above review from 3 to 4 stars to include the upgrade for the end of the series. It was a wonderful wrap and the end was the strongest book in the series. It's not listed on GR so I can't include it here. In spite of the entire series needing, at the very least, a good copy editor and in spite of there being some vexing world building questions the story is engrossing and compelling.

There's a short story I'm going to go find now, that's also not listed on GRs.

As an aside - these are the sorts of plot issues that distracted me throughout the series:

* Is Vancouver cold or hot? Early in the story, and throughout it, we get told that it's muddy and mucky and filled with black and green molds because of the 5 month monsoon season. We get told that it never gets cold enough to kill the mold. We're told that it's become so warm due to climate change that the alligators have migrated to Vancouver from Florida in search of water. Then periodically we get told that Vancouver is cold or chilly year round so you never really get warm there. Which is it?

* In the first book Ogli is 9 years old when he meets Jet. In the last book Jet remembers that he was 11 years old when they met. Which is it?

* Why would anyone agree to work with people who have always lied to her, who kidnapped her, enslaved her, and sold her into prostitution? There isn't a degree of pragmatism high enough to make me believe anyone would do this; not only do it but do it over and over again.

* If the birds are nearly all inside in the Green Zone then why is there never any mention of bird droppings?

Also, the MC being oblivious as an excuse for exposition is overused. It diminishes the MC and makes her look a bit dense. Then it's hard to believe she's so tactically brilliant later.

In spite of these failings, and distractingly bad copy editing, it's a good story over all. It was essentially hunger games with aliens.

UPDATE June 14, 2016
I read the short story "The Ring Fighter" and it was pretty good. It's a snapshot that makes sense after you finish the first four books, but the story in this novella happens throughout the entire quadrology. It's an adult novella of one of the secondary characters and his relationship with a tertiary character. It has one explicit sex seen in it, and two violent scenes but otherwise works quite well to affirm the integrity of this secondary character who becomes very important towards the end of the series.

Woman beating the odds

I have read all these books and bought the audio version also. It continues to be a favorite of mine and I can't wait for the last book in the series. As I don't watch television a good book is important to me. This is a great book. Fun, interesting and a real cliff hanger making you want to read it again and again.

Cliffhanger much? It seemed like a lot of slow, steady building, and then all of a sudden, BAM! I finished the book feeling empty, and I wish the author would finish the series just so I can move past this abrupt ending.

Very weird and creative book series

This is very far from your normal strange story. There's intrigue and political maneuvers with love and power mixed in. I hope they continue with this series because it's really interesting.
