Burned

Rate this book
No matter how hard David and Aurora fight, her past threatens to burn them both alive.

With only two months until graduation, David should only be concerned with three soccer, who he’ll be escorting to prom, and graduating high school. Instead, in an attempt to distract himself from his own problems, he offers aid to a girl with issues of her own. Someone is chasing after her. He plans to protect her any way he can, even if it means he goes down in a blaze of glory.

Aurora has been on the run for months with only one goal—find her uncle. She hasn’t seen him in nearly ten years and all clues have led her to Rescate County. It seemed like the perfect place to escape her past, but no one ever said leaving gang life would be easy. When her ex-boyfriend, leader of her former gang, catches up with her, her rescuer is someone she’d be better off without. But David is intent on helping her and the more she pushes him away, the tighter he holds on. At the rate they’re going, if they don’t find her uncle soon—her past will burn them both alive.

Is David willing to risk it all for someone who is dangerous for both his health and his heart? Can Aurora escape her past and finally find the family she’s been seeking all these years? Or will they both get burned by the flames?

Writers exist because they have a story to tell. Sometimes it’s whatever comes out of our imagination. Other times it’s something that comes from our own experiences. Either way, I believe we can learn from every book we read and every book (as authors) we write. The more I write and read, the better at my craft I become. No school can teach me that, but it can still give me the basics. That is the reason I’ll be finishing my Bachelor’s and moving on to my Master’s.

Review:
Story: This is the fourth book in the Dark Road series. I personally feel like all of the books should be read in order. This book dives right into the story from where book three left off. At least in my opinion. To be fair, it's a completely different story than the first three. There are references to the first three that wouldn't make sense unless you read the first three though. I wouldn't really consider them spoilers. I really enjoyed the book so much. I wish I had shut the world out like I wanted to and just read it all in one sitting. It hits different than the first three books for me, but not in a bad way.
Characters: I feel like I really got to know Heather and David more in this book than I did the first three. I didn't hate them, but I was very reserved about them. They had very explosive attitudes. I also liked seeing Bella from a different perspective. I think that I was so absorbed in her emotions in the first three that I didn't really look at the rest of the characters too closely. This book gave me a different perspective of everyone.
Critiques: There are parts that I really wish were longer. There were also parts that were referenced that I wish I could have actually seen. I won't get into the details to prevent spoilers. These are all personal isms. It does not reflect on the book itself.
Final Thoughts: I don't think this book was as intense as the first three, but I enjoyed it very much. I also loved the buildup and flow of the whole book. Getting to know other characters in this world has been so amazing. I'm looking forward to reading many other books from this world. I guess you could say I've become Addicted to this series!
