Everyone Can Use Some Encouragement

In a world filled with pain and crisis, everyone can use a dose of encouragement and hope from author Lori Hatcher. REFRESH YOUR HOPE is filled with her personal stories and connected to Scripture and our eternal Heavenly Father. If we trust ourselves and our thoughts, we are doomed to fail but as Hatch shows repeatedly in these devotions, our hope must be rooted in God’s word.

In the introduction, Hatch writes, “Every day we have a choice where we look for hope—to created things or our Creator. The world tells us to hope in money, luck, determination, relationships, skills, and our own abilities. God tells us to look to Him.” (page 13) REFRESH YOUR HOPE has 60 inspirational devotions in three parts: God’s Nature (Who God Is), God’s Work (What God Does) and God’s Word (What God Says). Each devotion begins with a Bible verse then a short devotion followed ty a summary sentence called Take Heart and a brief prayer called From the Heart.

Whether you read the book cover to cover or read one devotion a day, REFRESH YOUR HOPE will infuse your day with a renewed trust for God’s faithful actions. I highly recommend this well-crafted book.

Pub date: 3 Jan 2023

This is broken out into 3 Parts:
God's Nature (Who God Is)
God's Work (What God Does)
God's Word (What God Says)
with 20 Devotionals per Part.

I liked how this book is laid out. Each chapter begins with a story of more current times, tied in with an applicable story from the Bible; and then followed by a prayer at the end of each chapter/ devotional. There is probably a story & accompanying prayer/ devotional that anyone could find to apply to their current situation, hardship or life event. I'll be keeping this book close by for times I need a little extra guidance.

Thank you to the publisher via Netgalley for the ARC to read and review.

I enjoyed reading a galley copy of this devotional. I suppose there are authors whose writing persona is different from their actual personality, but Lori is the genuine article, and her authenticity shines throughout this devotional. The book is testament to the fact that she has the life experience and the writing chops to create something fresh and practical for every reader. The organization is simplicity itself, with a format that is repeated every day, but with content that provides each day with richness and variety. Lori is careful to include relatable stories that draw the reader in, supplementing them with Scripture and sage advice gleaned from a lifetime of living for God. I am grateful for her willingness to see this project to fruition and I can recommend her devotional enthusiastically!

I received a preview copy of this devotional in exchange for an honest review. I was very moved by the touching and heartfelt stories that were tied together by the Word of God. Each of the three sections in this devotional brought me closer to Who God Is (Part 1), What God Does (part 2), and What God Says(part 3). Each section contains 20 devotions with stories and Bible passages that show God was, is, and always will be present with His people through all trials and triumphs in life. This devotional was a great way to begin my day and keep me focused on the hope I have in my Savior, Jesus Christ.

Refresh Your Hope: 60 Devotions for Trusting God with All Your Heart by Lori Hatcher is an inspirational book of devotions. It is well-written, uplifting, and very easy to read, with real-life examples that brought the "hope" more to life. I love the line, "we hope tomorrow will be a better day."

A very good book to get in the right frame of mind and start your day. I will read this book over and over again to ground and center myself.

I would recommend this book and give it a 5 out of 5 stars.

Lori Hatcher’s writing is outstanding, and her latest book doesn’t disappoint. I’ve read all her previous books, and this one, Refresh Your Hope, feels like it was written specifically for me at this precise time in my life. Lori shares heartfelt and realistic stories and scriptures, all organized into the three concrete ways we can find hope in God’s Word: through God’s character, God’s work, and God’s word. Her uplifting and honest tales stir my heart and soul, pointing me over and over toward the hope we all have in the One who holds the stars. I highly recommend this devotional, whether you are a new or mature believer. So good!

Each devotional starts off with a story about the author or someone they know. From there it moves to verses and biblical application and encouragement. It's not bad but also not my favorite devotional either.

We all need hope. Like a train going through a long dark tunnel, we all want to see light sooner rather than later. Journeying through dark times can be scary and suffocating. Hope carries the confidence that the journey will not end in the dark but pull one through toward the light. Yet, in a world of ups and downs, hope is not always present. That is why we need to have hope refreshed and this book shows us 60 devotions to help keep up our hope and trust in God. These devotions are classified under three parts:

1) God's Nature (20 devotions)
2) God's Work (20 devotions)
3) God's Word (20 devotions)

Each devotion begins with a passage for meditation on the theme of Hope. This is followed by a story, illustration, or observation about the verse. We learn about the many dimensions of Hope, especially biblical hope. This includes knowing that God never forgets us. God is ever-present and faithful. God's Presence is Peace. God who has created the world knows best about what the world truly needs. Author Lori Hatcher probes the theme of Hope through reflections on the world we live in, the work of God in this world, and the Word of God. Each chapter concludes with encouragement and prayer. As a devotion, the chapters of this book take us back to the Word of God, showing us the Source of all Hope. There are many different aspects of life that readers can relate to. In "He Remembers Our Sin No More," Hatcher relates her experience as a dental hygiene student, how in the midst of great discouragement, she was able to shirk off criticisms and press on. In "Every Gift Matters," we learn not to let our hopes diminish in the light of others' gifts. Instead, we let God shine a light on the gifts we already have. In "God Will Sustain Us in our Old Age," we see how the same God who showered grace on others can also do the same for us. These and many more forms the bedrock of devotions to direct us to the Giver of Hope.

Readers wanting to inculcate a greater sense of Hope can use this book to guide their thoughts and hearts to trust the providence and faithfulness of God. It is not so much about us trying to believe but more about encountering God in our everyday lives. The short chapters are highly suitable for those of us with busy lifestyles who have very little time to read. Hopefully, consistent and disciplined reading will not only give us the discipline to develop a regular reading habit, but it can also build up in our hearts a greater knowledge and deeper love for God.

Lori Hatcher is an author, blogger, pastor's wife, and women's ministry speaker. Her writing has appeared in numerous publications including Our Daily Bread, Guideposts, Revive Our Hearts, and Crosswalk.com. A contest-winning Toastmasters International speaker, Lori uses high-impact stories to impart transformational truth. Thanks to Our Daily Bread Publishing & NetGalley for a digital advance reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own.

I really liked this book! Some days after reading a chapter, I found myself wanting to hug the author. She expressed the same feelings I have felt and, using Bible verses and personal examples, provided inspiration and support. I found so much comfort, hope, and encouragement in these pages.

The format is easy to read and relate to. Each chapter is brief and takes only a few minutes to dig into. Of course, you may want to spend more time in contemplation after reading. Each of the daily devotions has a personal example from the author’s life or describes someone she knows or has read about. She includes bible verses that confirm the truths of that day’s reading, then adds a brief “Take Heart” summary with a comforting explanation, reminding us of God’s power. Each chapter then concludes with “From the Heart” which is a short prayer specific to that day’s emphasis as well as thanking God, asking for strength, comfort, grace, etc. The prayer always returns to the reality of God caring about me and my life.

In the introduction author Lori Hatcher says, “Every day we have a choice of where to look for hope. These 60 biblical reasons are God’s version of hope and will fill you with joy and peace.” I can attest that the book does provide joy and peace. She says she wrote this book so that on its pages “you’ll find unshakable reasons not to lose heart, no matter what storms come your way.” I found myself looking forward to reading each day’s chapter and did indeed feel the hope and encouragement promised.

This would make a wonderful gift for both believers and seekers.

I was encouraged so much reading through this book. With all the darkness surrounding us these days, it's very easy to feel hopeless in all aspects of our lives. This book breathed fresh air into my mind and into my heart. Each day as I read the selection, I would read it, then stop and ponder the words. Then I'd read it a second time and let those words adjust my thinking for that day.

By the end of the 60 days, I truly did feel a refreshed feeling of hope. It changed my perspective on many things.

I highly recommend this book for yourself. But recommend buying a couple to have on hand as gifts for those you encounter who could use a big dose of encouragement. Refresh their Hope by giving them a tool to assist them along their way.

Disclaimer: I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no expectations in return. I chose to leave my honest review, and the thoughts above are mine.

Lori Hatcher kept her promise with the title, Refresh Your Hope. This 60 day devotional is packed with hope, and I am truly refreshed in it.
But I'm not talking about the fluffy Little Orphan Annie the sun will come out tomorrow kind of hope.
I'm talking about hope grounded in these three unfailing truths:
God's Nature (Who God Is)
God's Work (What God Does) and
God's Word (What God Says)

I have read all of Hatcher's devotionals so I expected to love this one too. Her excellent storytelling and the way she weaves them into the truths of the Bible along with her outstanding prayers have kept me reading. She takes me from laughter to tears quickly and always leaves us with hope in God.

This is the third devotional in the Refresh series. I have loved them all, but this might be my new favorite. It's too hard to choose between them.
Each one has drawn me closer to the Lord and filled me with a deeper understanding of God and His power and love.

Refresh Your Hope: 60 Devotions for Trusting God with All Your Heart is more than a "read one installment a day" book. It reaches into your soul and forces you to recognize that only God can bring real hope to our lives. As I read this inspiring book, the author used their masterful art of story to demonstrate a key principle every Christian should understand. We cultivate hope one trial, one promise, one victory at a time. Each time we hold onto hope through a trial, it becomes stronger and easier to hold onto in the next one. Hope is not a strategy. For the Christian, it is a promise we can hold onto. It is an anchor for our faith. Christian hope is our expectation that God will prove Himself to be who He is. Refresh Your Hope both gives us a reason for hope in God and the reason to hang on when all else tells us to let go.

"Good read" doesn't begin to describe this new devotional book from Lori Hatcher. Wow! It speaks! It speaks to my heart like no other book has. I have no doubt this was written at the inspiration of God. It encourages and lifts me and helps me recalibrate. It reminds me of WHO HE IS and who I am because of Him. Thank you, Lori Hatcher, for another extremely well-written devotional book. I am loving it! I'll be reading these pages over and over again.

Refresh Your Hope is a devotional book you will want to keep handy on your shelf or nightstand. I read through it in order and was amazed, although I shouldn't be, at how timely each devotion was. The message on most days answered a need or question I was dealing with at that time. If they didn't apply to that day, I related to them in other aspects of my life. This is a book I will use over and over to reflect on God's presence in and His promises for my life. Thank you, Lori. Well done!

I love how Lori shares her tears, trials and triumphs. She confesses her failures and her lack of faith at times but shares God’s faithfulness at all times. When my faith is lagging, I can be encouraged. Her stories bring tears and laughter but always fill me with hope. I am reminded to keep my focus on the Lord and his word and off of myself and the world. Thus, my hope is renewed.

Lori Hatcher explores many biblical reasons we have hope. Each chapter uses personal examples and focuses on a Scripture that applies to the different experiences we all go through in life. This book is a keeper and will lift and encourage those who have given up and think there is no reason to hope for a better life.

This book had sixty stories and related scripture that had to do with hope. Overall, it was a good book, but most of the stories (to me) were not relatable to my life. I did enjoy the prayers and scripture references.

From the tender story of a child's nightmare to the astounding account of an inmate in solitary confinement, the opening lines of these devotions captivate my attention. The devotions recount real-life situations like job loss, the worries of motherhood, and a battle with cancer. Lori Hatcher combines an authentic, entertaining, often-humorous style with deep truths from the Bible. Devotions in the three divisions of this book encourage me to embrace hope. They include “God's Nature,” “God's Work,” and “God's Word.” I ordered an extra copy for a friend.
