Mexican Sunset: The Vision Quest of a Modern Day Explorer
After the unexpected death of his thirty-eight-year-old stepfather, fourteen-year-old Rick embarks on a five-year journey that begins in the Midwest's Edenic Driftless Area canoeing a mysterious wild river in eastern Iowa.
While embracing the idealism of the 1970s counterculture, he seeks to discover himself in pursuit of his escapism. Reading Mexican Sunset felt like being invited on a deeply personal and spiritual road trip one that’s just as much about internal discovery as it is about exploring the outer world. Rick Jebb has managed to write a memoir that is both soul searching and refreshingly grounded, weaving together travel, coming of age, grief, and a hunger for deeper meaning.
The story follows Rick as a teenager in the late 1970s, setting off on an ambitious journey through Mexico and parts of Central America with a group of friends. What starts as a youthful adventure quickly evolves into something more reflective and profound. The sudden death of Rick’s stepfather who had played a pivotal role in his upbringing casts a long shadow over the journey, and it’s clear that this trip becomes a vehicle for processing that loss. 🌺This book presents some inspirational, motivational and self-questionable piece of works in light to us. This is way very interesting book which holds potential of providing so many learnings & lessons. Their's nothing but inspiration in my mind after reading this, and i hope and wish the same for y'all. This book is kind of memoir which depicts Author's life and his learnings. The author's experience was broader and more frightening than most which led him to a better understanding of life and love. The writing of these kind of book had to be genuinely perfect and this book has perfectly got to the height of that perfection. Language is good which makes it an easy to read. The narration part is quite amazing which can engage any reader to the story.🌺

The real life stories of other people out there, battling their battles which are far worse than ours and them conquering it is the type of motivation that stays for a long time with us. This book provides us that same motivation and I'm glad to have this book with me, as my first read experience makes me sure that this book will inspire anyone and anytime, it has the capability.
The book is a memoir, Rick lost his stepfather at the age of 14, his stepfather was someone who Rick admired and loved and when he was in coma Rick prayed to god to take his life and spare his stepfather's life. But after the death of his stepfather, Rick got a little distant from god. His uncle helped him to live life fatherless.
Rick decides to go on a trip for five years, on a journey to discover himself, he makes many new friends, and gets through many inspirational experiences and eventually falls in love with a girl and goes to Mexico to find her. Will he be able to find her? And will they end up together? Let's leave that to you to find out.
The narration is awesome, the mention of the places with the needful details makes you feel like you're a companion of Rick in his journey of self discovery. The title of the book, the book cover is also tempting, it worked a great deal for me to get into the book. Even if it is a memoir and a real life story, it is too awesome and gripping.
This book is for everyone, and all of you must give it a try. I can assure you that this book will not disappoint you at any point, and you'll enjoy your time reading it.

People often tend to get lost and distracted while chasing their paths after any traumatic incident happens in their lives. Bringing back the hope, diligence and joy is not a walk on cake either.
Mexican Sunset: The Vision Quest of a Modern Day Explorer by the Author Rick Jebb unfolds his personal journey of fighting with his step dad's death trauma when he was just fourteen years old and to find the pursuit of his life he embarks on a five-year journey that begins in the Midwest's Edenic Driftless Area canoeing a mysterious wild river in eastern Iowa. The time he spent their turned out to be his biggest achievement as he master the art of inner peace and personal growth. Later he found he some buried secrets and his ancestors struggled life while traveling to Mexico with his friends.
The book was absolutely amazing and knowledgeable teaching its readers the shades and phases of human life.
The blend of nature and travel worked really well for this book and even the protagonist outstand his performance in his character.
Mexican Sunset: The Vision Quest of a Modern Day Explorer by the Author Rick Jebb unfolds his personal journey of fighting with his step dad's death trauma when he was just fourteen years old and to find the pursuit of his life he embarks on a five-year journey that begins in the Midwest's Edenic Driftless Area canoeing a mysterious wild river in eastern Iowa. The time he spent their turned out to be his biggest achievement as he master the art of inner peace and personal growth. Later he found he some buried secrets and his ancestors struggled life while traveling to Mexico with his friends.
The book was absolutely amazing and knowledgeable teaching its readers the shades and phases of human life.
The blend of nature and travel worked really well for this book and even the protagonist outstand his performance in his character.

Mexican Sunset, written by Rick Jebb, is about himself and the 5 year period during the 1970's for him. The period in which he discovered much about himself after trying to escape from reality. After the unexpected death of his step-father, he decided to embark on different journeys, starting from the Midwest's Edenic Driftless Area canoeing in a mysterious wild river in Eastern Iowa. His journey is purely about him finding himself whilst he was trying to escape. His attempts at reconstructing his Christian Faith during this journey was also admirable, and ended up in him further discovering himself. At one point he even found love and decided to pursue it, which truly showed how courageous the writer was and still is. It's a book filled with fights for courage, fights for freedom, excitement, thrill and wonderful adventures and stories of wonderful people. A great book, written by a great author.

This book is a retelling of 5 years of the authors life when he was a teenager and life seemed so much bigger. When he went off to summer camp, he never expected the sudden death of his stepfather and the course it would set him on. This book at its best is a coming of age book. However, there is a resolution in here to find himself and that took him from Florida, to Mexico and back and many places in between. Love and religion find him, vision quests and friends, events that fight him the value of courage and so much more. While this might not be entirely accurate (the author is writing from memory back in the 60's), the story is interesting and relatable. It opens a window to another time when anything was possible.

I started reading this novel because I liked stories that tell or describe other poeple´s cultures. In “Mexican Sunset'' there is a bit of everything. Rick Jebb has penned this enticing story.
The story revolves around Rick, a young boy who has lost his stepfather and decides to travel around Mexico. In his trip, he visits different places and meets people from different walks of life. He learns about other cultures, customs and he even meets his love.
It is a well-written and an enticing novel down to the last page. I became fascinated with the stories , the description of the places and people. The author uses a variety of vocabulary that helped me travel with the character and visualize some places. I liked it a lot and I highly recommend it.

Author Rick Jebb exposes us to an account of his life when was an adolescent and embarked on a five-year journey while seeking to discover himself. But his life changed forever after the death of his stepfather.
In the first person singular and from the bottom of his heart, he speaks directly to us, telling us everything he went through, how he fell in love and how religion also played an important role in his life. He does so in a relatable narrative and he seems to be telling all this to friends, more than readers since the language used is friendly and the tone is neutral. I have enjoyed this book a lot!

I was quickly pulled into this story about the author’s life and despite the fact I never get much time to read, I felt intrigued and addicted since I saw the title.
When Rick lost his stepfather in an unexpected situation he embarked on a long journey. The author did such an amazing and detailed job by telling the reader as much as he can about the setting and places that the main protagonist visited, that I could feel myself next him all the time. It’s easy to put oneself on his shoes and feel empathy for a teenager who discovers the world alone and face diverse and difficult issues.
It’s a great read that I highly enjoyed.

“Mexican Sunset: The vision Quest of modern day explorer” by Rick Jebb is an amazing book on the personal growth process of Rick. It basically starts with the staggering event of his step-father’s death, who at the time was only thirty eight years old. This has a great impact on the life of the lonely fourteen year old Rick, who then begins to embark on a journey towards adulthood and great adventures. He will get to know many different places and people that will be part of the person he is today.
To put it in a nutshell, this book is really moving to read and it’s amazing to follow a boys growth throughout the years.

Mexican Sunset: The Vision Quest of a Modern Day Explorer by Rick Jebb is a memoir unlike any I’ve ever read. Jebb is truly a modern explorer. The things he’s seen and elected to do are on par with explorers from history books. Half of the things he does are things most of us can’t, or make excuses that we can’t. Starting at age 14, he traveled (often by hitchhiking- which, in fairness, was not safer in the 1970s but was less feared), did drugs, lost and found God, and fell in love and chased that love. It’s a grand coming of age story that includes neuro-divergent representation. Overall, a great read!

Throughout his life Rick never lost faith and his imagination was the engine that drove him for many years of his life.
I really liked being able to learn part of Rick's history and his great adventures. I also really liked the writing style, because although for him his memoirs are a bit rusty, he details the scenes in a very gentle and warm way. I highly recommend this reading!.

What an exciting life some people live! Mexican Sunset is one of those stories, a recapitulation of a life filled with adventure, an author who shares his travels, his experiences living in different places and countries, and the process he went through to become the adult he is now.
I like reading this kind of book, it opens a world of opportunities, so many things I haven´t taken into consideration as possible. Rick Jebb's book is a coming-of-age story that, in a way, gave me the courage to stop procrastinating and start moving forward into the life I want for myself: The life of a traveler!
Definitely recommended for adventurous people.

Nice memories.
The writer, Rick Jebb, sets out his memories in his book called Mexican Sunset: The Vision Quest of a Modern Day Explorer. This book is about coming of age, about grieving, about change and about growing up.
I don't know how real or faithful the memories are since many years have passed, but still they are really interesting and captivating. It was a nice read. Not only did I enjoy "the sentimental or introspective journey" but I also liked reading about the places and people I got to know.
I like the author's way of writing. The book is divided into short chapters that are easy to read, and also, the plot is well written. I recommend it.

I was really intrigued after reading the title of this book. Reads like this are the ones that I truly enjoy and the ones where I can get more knowledge about life itself. It is really captivating to read about someone's experiences, what went through their minds and what they do after some shaky situations in life. This book portrays life really beautifly, the ups and downs, the struggles, the disappointment and the grieving. It has bits and pieces of a lot of scenarios every human being goes through.

Very well-written story by author Rick Jebb who describes his life and challenges during his early years following the divorce of his parents, moving with his mother to Illinois and dealing with the untimely death of his father at a young age. The story goes on to discuss his use of alcohol and drugs during that time. The authors writing style and description were incredible and it made me feel as though I was there with him during the story. This is a must read.

Mexican Sunset tells the story of an adolescent who, after the sudden death of his stepfather, decides to embark on different journeys to find his true self. As he goes through this adventure, he meets a girl who invites him to stop and visualize the path he has already covered and to reflect on the true meaning of life.
In several opportunities I felt I could recognize myself in this protagonist. It is very well created and his story is perfectly described. I enjoyed reading this story a lot and I felt really satisfied when I reached the end of the book and thought that as the famous saying goes “sometimes we have to get lost in order to find ourselves.”

This book grab my attention right from the start.
Taken by itself it is just such a wonderful book of wonderful trips, self doubts never really getting in the way of fun and exploring. His gift of telling hist story allows us to relive it through his words.

The author kept the writing of the book in a good tone being more conversational.

After the death of his father, a fourteen year old Rick too, sets out on this journey of self discovery, that begins in the Midwest, and takes him along through several places, also contributing to erasing what he knew, and building his knowledge up again from scratch. This journey strengthend his faith in God. The book narrates several experiences from the author's life, including the time he fell in love and this brought him to Mexico. Mexico was life changing experience to him, where he realised his path, and could see the paths that those before him took.
The book is a beautiful memoir that accounts the life of the author and his various travels. The narration is light hearted and keeps the readers engaged, while at places it is also strong and motivates the readers to look for their own spirituality and seek the answers to the deepest questions.
The book is an inspirational piece of work. Everyone in this world seeks spiritual enlightenment, however, there are only a very few that have the guts to set out and try looking for it. Just as the author took a step on this journey self discovery, I do hope that this book will inspire the readers to step out as well.
