La civilisation terrienne s’est-elle vraiment éteinte après l’Apocalypse nucléaire et écologique ? Pour préparer le retour sur Terre, l’amiral Colette, chef de la Colonie sur Mars, décide d’y envoyer Victor Lambda, pourtant simple appelé, mais désigné par Athéna, l’intelligence artificielle au jugement incontesté. Mais pourquoi moi ? se demande Victor en apprenant qu’une première mission d’éclaireurs d’élite a disparu.
Lancé à leur recherche, voici Victor sur le rivage d’une île du Pacifique… habitée. Auprès de ses indigènes, tous jeunes, beaux, oisifs et fervents disciples du dieu de l’amour, l’explorateur découvre une vie en société bien différente de la sienne et, semble-t-il, idyllique.
Mais Victor n’est pas au bout de son voyage, ni de ses rencontres avec d’autres mondes : que va-t-il apprendre sur lui-même dans cette odyssée ?
Dans la tradition du conte philosophique, avec la modernité d’un roman d’anticipation à suspense, ce récit invite à réfléchir sur la justice sociale, l’amour, la technologie… et, surtout, la liberté.

About the author

François Lelord, born 22 June 1953 in Paris is a French psychiatrist and author. He studied medicine and psychology. After getting his doctoral degree in 1985, he was a post-doctorate researcher with Robert Liberman at the University of California (UCLA), Los Angeles. He then worked as an attending physician at Hôpital Necker (which is affiliated with Descartes University) in Paris for two years.
In 1989 he opened up his own practice which he closed down in 1996 to work as an advisor on stress and job satisfaction for several companies. Having co-written various self-help books, he was commissioned to produce another but found himself instead writing a novel, Hector and the Search for Happiness, the first in a series of adventures featuring a psychiatrist protagonist. In 2004, Lelord went to work for an NGO in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. He now lives in Thailand with his wife and son. The film of Hector and the Search for Happiness is released in UK cinemas in August 2014, starring Simon Pegg and Rosamund Pike.

C'était une lecture bien agréable qui m'a un peu surprise pour son côté SF que je ne soupçonnait pas du tout. Oui, le récit à une interprétation philosophique, mais ça ne reste qu'une interprétation et surtout de philosophie assez générale de bonheur. Je ne saurais pas vraiment le classer, mais il est pas mal sympa sans pour autant être ma lecture de l'année

this book wasn’t perfect on all points, but there were interesting subjects of reflection (so sad that it’s the book of a friend I would have liked to annotate a few things). the reading was very natural and easy, with representations (although secondary and may be badly exploited) of the lgbtqia+ community!!
