If this book didn't correlate with Microsoft's exams, it would be worthless.

The book is written by three authors and reads that way. Even for a technical book it is uninteresting, sloppy and scattered.

Just did some research for other study sources and read some blogs from people who have taken the MCTS tests. It turns out that this study guide does not provide enough information for a self-study person (like myself) to pass a test. Thanks Microsoft Publishing! i will provide links to other sources as i find them. Until then, think thrice before purchasing this worthless paperweight.

Horrible, horrible. i wish some other publisher would put out a study guide. Example of awfulness:

The authors spend a measly 2.5 pages on asymmetric encryption and provide a truly useless code example. In the section immediately following they spend 6 or more pages on hash algorithms, which in my opinion, is 4 more pages than necessary. If they spent as much time on the much more challenging topic of asymmetric encryption, that section would have come to 20+ pages (without useful examples.)

very very good book for .NET Framework programmers and researchers that seek a textbook on .NET Framework.
Many useful topics from basic to advanced include Datatype, Generics, Globalization, Data Security including Encryption & Decryption, CAS ,... are covered in this book in a simple language!!!

If you're sitting the 70-536 exam, have I got the book for you!

If you're not, due to this being a foundation book it may be useful to someone trying to learn .NET application development. Though to be honest there probably exists a more suitable book, geared towards beginners rather than helping people pass an exam.

Decent book for learning the basic functionality of the .NET framework. Felt like the security chapters were a little long and there were quite a few typos and mistakes in the practice questions. Overall I learned a good deal from reading this book.

Great book to understand the Core of .NET, and also to know at high level, things like Authentication and Authorization, Serialization, Hash and Encrypt and others.

But i don't recommend to be the first read book for .Net developers
