Summer is in the air, parties are on everyone's mind, and something silent, deadly, and dangerous lurks in the water.
It's officially the first day of summer and despite the recent spate of mysterious disappearances in the area, the town of Brookfield is in celebration mode. The weather is hot and still, and the lakes are an enormous drawcard for Brookfield's inhabitants.
Anita Cruickshank is holding her annual 'Welcome to Summer' party at Lake Serene on Saturday night. She has a long guest list, although Paul Chisholm knows that he will never receive a party invitation from his long-time nemesis. All the same, Paul has plenty of his own achievements to celebrate and he's also heading for Lake Serene tonight to relax and enjoy the evening.
As the alcohol and food start to flow, as the languid daylight slowly gives way to night, and as the truth starts to hit home for many of Brookfield's citizens, the hungry creatures in the lake are beginning to stir.

Attack was the final novella in the trilogy and while it was ultimately satisfying, I did have a few issues. Much of the book was bogged down in characterization, yet with the short chapters and scenes, it was easy enough to take. The ending was rather abrupt as well, with just a few of the last pages when everyone figured out what was going on, the final bloody finale, and certain people getting their just deserts. Also, in this one I noticed a lot more typos than in the previous two.
Still, I loved it and had a great time. It’s hard enough to find good creature feature icky bug but even harder to find writers that do it well. Overall I can say this series of novellas is highly recommended.
The area around the five lakes are still having a large number of disappearances. No one knows why. One man has a idea about the culprit. What happens when there is a party at the lake? Intense read amazing characters. Spine tingling creature feature.
This is the third "book" in a so called trilogy. It is very short. The three books could easily been one not very long book. Lots of violent deaths that are telegraphed like a Sci-fi channel movie and no likable characters. There is kind of a conspiracy that causes a problem but other than causing a problem goes nowhere and is not developed. There is a main character but no hero or heroine. There are simply those who survived and those that did not. I gave every book in this series two stars because I finished them all. Each book is a quick read and sort of interesting, but could have been so much more. The author took a good idea with possibilities, added some possibly interesting characters then wrote a story that developed none of those.
This book made me reconsider going swimming for quite awhile. This has actually happened in the past. People do not stop to think when
disposing of carnivorous fish. It should be illegal to sell this type of fish. This was a very good, but scary book. I did enjoy reading it. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good mystery. The best clue was at the very beginning. It was interesting to see how different people put out their own theories as to why so many people went missing. It was a very good book. I really enjoyed it.
Once they gave a few clues about the fish you knew what it was. The rest was just a funny romance. I was not happy about how the ranger turned into a grouchy during the date.
While it aggravates me to have books cut short so you have to buy the series to get the whole story, I am glad I purchased all 3 of them. Brutal action, lots of victims and a twist in plot made reading the series enjoyable.
It took me a while to understand why the fish weren't being discovered along with the bunch of missing humans. There were some characters who were memorable cause of the role the played in the book. I will stay out of streams lol..
It's a three book series that should have been only one. It's a quick read as you get interested right away, and the characters are normal people with common flaws. Not some typical good-looking man and a beautiful woman.
So having read book 1,2 and now 3 I have to say all in all it wasn’t a bad read. One and two were a slow burn that built up to 3. In 3 the story comes to a conclusion in a unique way. Being a fan of creature features growing up this was an interesting take on a water terror that has been popularized by movies. I look forward to reading more of Mitchell’s work to see how the author deals with other creatures and mysteries.
