I was sent an ARC copy of The Vow only, so this review is just for that book in this group.
The Vow is an interesting book by D.L. Wood. It begins with a broken vow, and a broken heart. As Kate tries to move on in life, she realizes that it's time to let go of something special, a family cabin, so that she can move on with her life without her husband. But once at the cabin, she begins to realize that sometimes memories and special places are more important, so she decides to keep the cabin...and that is when the strange things that had been happening start to become more intense. I have to say that while I was enjoying the pace of the story, the lessons being learned, I wasn't overly drawn in...until about the halfway point, when the intensity ramped up. And the strange and scary things started to happen to Kate. And kudos to D.L. Wood - I was totally surprised by the villian, the outcome, the way the story finished! I'm usually pretty good at figuring out 'whodunit', even when it isn't obvious, but not this time. The twists and turns and surprises are expertly woven into a tale of betrayal, heartbreak, and the revelation of truth. Read it. Be intrigued. Be surprised. Be faithful to your vows...
This review is for The Vow by D.L. Wood. I don’t remember the date I received the book, but started it right away, and finished it within 24 hours! That should let you know what I thought of it! D.L. Did Not disappoint with this book! It was a nail biting roller coaster ride and I enjoyed every minute of it! The book had all the twists, turns, and surprises of a great thriller. The protagonist was likable. You get to know the characters - or do you?!? And I love that she keeps her work clean while accomplishing the delivery of a very satisfying read! Listen up authors - it CAN be done! I highly recommend this book - but don’t start it when you have other things to do! It’s extremely difficult to put down! I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion of it.
The Vow by D. L. Wood is part of this collection. I was privileged to receive an ARC of the book so the thoughts expressed herein are my own unbiased review. The Vow is a ‘can’t put this down’ novella. The story introduces us to Kate and Erik, happily married and looking forward to a trip to her grandparents cabin when the unthinkable happens. I was quite surprised by the twisted turn of events. Ms. Wood gives us a peek into a mind caught in self deception, but it’s also a tale of suspense with courage and faith in the human spirit. Highly recommend!
This review is for The Vow, which I received an advance copy of for an honest review.
I could not wait to read another book by DL Wood, all her books are top notch and this one did not disappoint! From the first page to the last page it was hard to put down and the mystery had me guessing to the very end.
Winter Deceptions: A 10 novella Collection of Christian Suspense Novellas 4 stars I received a free copy of Winter Deceptions: A 10 novella Collection of Christian Suspense Novellas by Harris, Lisa; Gentry, Lynne; Walsh, Dan; Ehrlich, Luana; Wood, D.L.; Thompson, Jan; Toler, Terry ; Wegley, H.L.; Bradford, Liz; and Kestell, Vikki and these reviews were given freely. A mixture of suspense, danger, Faith, elaborate plans, and reunion with most occurring near the Christmas season. 18+ recommended.
Individual Books:
5 stars: Book 1:Murder on Fight 91: Suspenseful and fast-paced. Introverted career-focused military doctor Major Danielle Nanga and her outgoing assistant, Second Lieutenant Liam DeMarcus, US Army Civil Affairs Specialist, grow closer while trying to keep a fragile patient alive, solve a murder, stay out of jail, capture a killer, and get to their next post in Africa. A short patch of time that ends in a date to see the Northern Lights.
Contains the sinister undertones of murder and critical parents.
4 stars: Book two: Twas The Night: A Brooklyn, NY Christmas tragedy turns into small town Black Rock Christmas joy. After their families die, widowed Theresa finds purpose and meaning in the form of Deputy Bud, and orphans Ransom and Emma on Christmas Eve. Contains the sinister undertones of death and robbery.
4 Stars: Book 3: One Wonders: A Silas Mckay Suspense: Contains a good introduction to the series with a highly descriptive introduction to the series and an action and drama-packed ending. This is a pre-Christmas story of healing for recently widowed security chief and PI, middle-aged father Silas McKay, and depicts the reaffirmation of his relationship with God six months after the loss of his wife to cancer.
5 Stars: Book 4: The Vow: A Deadly Decisions Novella: A suspenseful and sad story of manipulation, stalking, and lies. Recently divorced and struggling financially, Kate Palmer returns to her beloved family’s cabin two days before Christmas where she must prepare it for sale or lose her home.
5 Stars: Book 5: Zero Trust: Binary Hackers Book 4 I received a free copy of the romantic suspense Zero Trust (Binary Hackers Book 4) by Jan Thompson in the Winter Deceptions anthology and this review was given freely. Coincidence, fate, or design? This is a high- tech complicated game of cat and mouse with a side of romance.
Complex and quirky characters mixed with sarcastic humor and the antics of some uncontrolled robotic dogs can be found in this complicated and twisted story of espionage, revenge, and love where the leading man/Briscoe Hall is a softer more flawed protector and not the elite athletic alpha ex-military man I usually find in romantic suspense novels.
A year after his rescue from the Buchanan Industries and cybernetics experimentations in Bitteria, the restless former military sniper and mercenary Briscoe Hall returns home to his brother Tyrone’s Still Waters mountain compound in the north Georgia mountains to take a twenty-million-dollar two-week assignment where he is hired by the distrustful and eccentric roboticist Mira Proskouriakova to help her assassinate her mother’s killer while at the same time he is hired by her former FSB agent and security company owning father Dmitri Proskouriak as Mira’s protector. Can be read as a standalone but is best if read in the series order as novels unfold chronologically.
5 Stars: Book 6: Triggers Physically abused by her husband, billionaire Collin Minton III, Virginia “Ginny” Winna Joyce-Minton takes flight to Winter, Texas where she attends a firearms and self-defense class where she is befriended PTSD suffering former Marine Jake Parker and his retired service dog Trigger. 18+ for violence.
4 Stars: Book 7: Against the Darkness A lengthy story with a slow start. But this is a suspenseful and drama-packed story containing some violence that is combined with romance and a story of witnessing and forgiveness. Written in a combination of first and third person this is the harrowing story of twenty-nine-year-old Hong Kong virologist Dr. Meiling Chen, MD, PhD’s rush to stop viral warfare by escaping from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, the Chinese Communist Party, and the People’s Liberation Army with the help of her pastor, American meteorologist, and Apologist blogger Ryan Adams, and CDC Dr. Robert Price.
5 Stars Book 8: Too Late Real estate agent and K-9 handler Chloe Jacobs must trust God to help her overcomes her fear of heights and panic attacks in this drama and tension-filled novella where SAR teammates for 7 years, Chloe and medical doctor Josh Schneider become the targets of revenge just as they decide to reveal their feelings for each other.
Book 9: Stealth Genesis: A Nanostealth prequel: Not read
Book 10: An Unfavorable Beginning: Not read Military, a rivalry, and nanotechnology.
Well it is Christmas in July for me with this advanced copy of a wonderfully written novella! DL Wood has once again written a story that has suspense, mystery, action, faith, and emotion. This was a book that was hard to put down. So many chapters ended with a mini-cliffhanger that I didn’t want to stop.
So first, the characters. Even though this is a novella, the characters are all fleshed out nicely. What I love about DL Wood’s characters is that they are always realistic. Not perfect and with a genuine brokenness that we can all relate to. Even though I am a happily married man, I felt a nice connection to Kate and her struggle of being left by her husband. That is high praise to an author to make you feel something by a character of something you yourself have not experienced. The dialogue was also realistic and the pace of the story was perfect.
Second, the setting. This is a Christmas novella and she gets all of the seasonal elements just right; however, this is certainly a book that can enjoyed any time of year. I loved the cabin element of the story in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. It made me want to take a trip to a cabin in the Fall or Winter!
And lastly, the mystery. This one is super solid. Who is stalking Kate? Who is ransacking cabins? Who was staying in her attic? Will Kate be able to move on with her life? There were some great red herrings and I had no clue for the longest time. I had an inkling of what might have happened and the big reveal showed that a small percentage of me was correct but it was executed much better than what I thought! So if you are a mystery fan, this is a good one!
Whether it is a full length standalone novel or a book in one of her series or a novella like this one, DL Wood always knocks it out of the park and it’s why she is one of my favorite authors. Seriously, if you love Christian Suspense and have not read any of her books, do so immediately. One warning, though: you will be on the edge of your seat for every one!
I received this book courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review
Nine riveting wintery suspense novellas by 10 award winning Christian suspense authors. The first novellas in this boxed set instantly grabbed my attention and had this avid reader wanting more. Most of these authors are new to this avid reader of multiply genres.
In our current world with drama in the skies, Lisa Harris and Lynne Gentry captured dilemmas passengers and crew face in the modern world - food poisoning, tension, turbulence, medical emergencies (organ transplants) and more. Murder on Flight 91 is a page turning, nail biting, cheering for Daniella and Liam well crafted prequel the Agents of Mercy Medical Thriller series.
Twas the Night by Dan Welch is based on the Park Slope Plane Crash in New York City with the Christmas classic, the Nativity, and holiday blizzard thrown in. The best holiday story elements. Theresa and Bud are relatable characters. The courage of young lad orphaned Ransom caring for his little sister Emma draws on a mother's and grandmother's heart strings.
The first two stories are well worth the $2.99 investment in the boxed set. Will add to this review as a read the rest of the winter deception stories.
After receiving an advanced copy of The Vow by D.L. Wood, I sat down and read this suspenseful, edge of your seat page turner in one sitting!
Anyone who has ever endured a break-up will connect with the main character, Kate, and relate to the roller coaster of emotions that go along with such an experience. I especially appreciated Kate’s strength of character and strong will, persevering as things start to go awry on her get away trip to her family’s cabin … an unannounced visitor, a coincidence, could it be a stalker? This novella is a quick paced, suspense filled drama, not without glimpses of hope for faith filled Kate.
I love D.L.’s descriptive writing style as it flows rhythmically, allowing for immediate visualization and full emersion in the story, as if right there in the middle of all the action.
I have read all of D’L.’s books so far and anxiously await her next!
The Vow by D.L. Wood This was a fast-paced and suspenseful read that immediately pulled me in and kept me glued to the pages. There was this ominous sense of dread, of anticipation, throughout the entire story that kept me on the edge of my seat. And, I've gotta say, I was left completely stunned by the twists this story took. I LOVE when I can be surprised like that!
I really enjoyed the wintery Christmastime setting. It was especially nice considering the temperature was over a hundred degrees while I was reading it. It was almost like I could feel the chill in the air.
This was an absolutely stellar story that I highly recommend. It's a definite must read for anyone who enjoys suspense.
I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.
This review is for The Vow by D.L. Wood. I received a complimentary early copy from the author for my honest review.
Wow! I loved this novella. Kate's husband left her unexpectedly last Christmas and a year later, she is still reeling from it. She is determined to spend one more Christmas at the cabin she inherited from her grandparents before she has to sell it for the divorce. But as she reunites with old friends and remembers the great times there with her family, Kate decides to keep the cabin. However, someone does not want her to and will stop at nothing to get her to leave. There's a plot twist at the end that I did not see coming! D.L. Wood wrote a wonderful suspenseful book that had me guessing the whole time.
I read the ARC 'The Vow' by D.L. Wood, and it was a very intriguing story with some shocking surprises, and a mystery which many readers will not figure out. I really liked the plot, the writing was clean and you will definitely want to keep reading to the end to find out how this deception began and how it ended.
I find it hard to review these boxsets after only reading one book, but I have read a number of these authors in the past, and know them to be authors with good stories and clean writing. Getting nine good suspense novellas for the introduction price of $2.99 US is certainly a bargain.
I have only read one of the novellas so far and if it is any indication I’m sure the whole collection is well worth its place on my shelf. I have no doubt it will be as it includes some of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read the rest.
The Vow is a perfectly crafted mystery with an end I never saw coming. I went through all the emotions right along with Kate. I hated Erik, feared her stalker, and wanted to connect with her grandparents’s cabin. This was well plotted, well written, had intriguing characters, and I absolutely loved it.
So far I've read Dan Walsh's, Luana Ehrlich's, and Vikki Kestell's contributions to this collection. Dan Walsh's is my favorite, and I am intrigued enough with Ehrlich's new character, Silas McKay, to pre-order the next one. My main complaint about her "One Wonders" is that it is too short :-) Kestell's was quite interesting, and I've picked up the next book in the series to try it.
This review is for the story 'The Vow' by D.L. Wood that is part of this boxset. This psychologicsl thriller follows Kate as she moves to her cabin in the woods after divorcing her husband Erik. It was a nail biting psychological thriller with an unexpected finish! There were so many plot twists weaved into the story..an amazing read! I received a free copy of the book and this is my voluntary and honest review.
"The Vow" by D.L. Woods was amazing! I devoured it in two days! This book was short and easy to read. It kept my attention the whole way through, and there was a twist that I didn't see coming. I was guessing the whole way through! I believe this is D.L. Woods' best book, so far. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy good, clean suspenseful novels!
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
“The Vow” by D L Wood is not to be missed. Ms Wood has crafted a gripping story that kept me guessing until the end. Her characters are well-rounded causing you to feel part of the story. I can’t wait to read her next books as I have already read all her others!
Read for the great stories, but also read for the good, and appreciate an overall wonderful collection. I have some new authors whose work I will pursue, and that is the biggest blessing of all.
I loved the way the drew me in and how the cliff hangers made me want more. I now need to look at my Kindle Library and find which onew I have read or are waiting to be read. Thanks so very much!
This collection of books was the best way to spend every evening until I finished. Intriguing. Great story lines. Amazing authors. Definitely will read other books written by these authors!
D. L. Wood has outdone herself. The book is a gripping page-turner - I read in one night! The book kept me wondering ‘who dunnit’ the whole time. Just when I thought I knew, something else happened that made me re-question myself. I loved this book and recommend it to all suspense-thriller fans.
This is a review of The Vow by D.LWood Which is part of this collection.
I don’t want to give away any plots or spoil any enjoyment by describing the story except to say the second half of the book really keeps you guessing right to the end. Very enjoyable and I highly recommend it.
Enjoyed every single one of the stories, especially the one about the research scientist from the Wuhan Lab. I will be looking up all the books written by the authors. Thank you!
This is a review for ‘The Vow’. Another great book by D.L. Wood. I didn’t want to put it down, it kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend it.
The Vow: What a riveting spellbinding story!! DL Wood will keep you and Kate guessing for nearly up untill the last page? Who did it? Or who is doing it? What on earth is going on?! The emotions portrayed is so real you also experience the loss and betrayal of Erik. I am not going to spoil it and tell you who did it or what is going on🤣. What I will tell you is this: you will never ever guess the conclusion of the story. Deffinitely worth reading and highly recommend!
I have previously read The Vow by D.L. Wood. I enjoyed the book and would encourage you to get Winter Deceptions by several Christian suspense writers. This is a great set to have. Right now it is even in KU.
This review is for DL Wood......her book The Vow was the best. It kept me in suspence and it was nail-biting from beginning to end. Overall I have given the book a 4 star rating but if I could The Vow would get a 10 star rating
