“I will go wherever you are. Even if I have to follow you forever. Even if I have to hunt you down...”

TAYLOR

As the resident historian, I’ve been recording everything that happens on this alien planet. Alliances, battles, and, of course, the whole alien/human mates phenomenon. But soon, there’s a new name to add to the list of human lasses with mates: mine. I, Taylor Bruce, apparently have an alien fated mate. And not just any mate – the biggest, strongest monster of the Bitter Sea army wants to claim me. Ten feet tall and covered in golden scales that glint like armour, Tok looks more like something from a nightmare than a dream come true.

But when Tok tells me there’s an ancient alien records-keeping system back at the Bitter Sea to explore, I put aside my reservations and jump at the chance to travel there.

With him. Alone.

The more time I spend with this golden behemoth, the more I can’t help but imagine his claws on my skin, his fangs at my throat...

As I get to know him... It’s not that he becomes less monstrous.
It just turns out I have a wee bit of a thing for monsters.

TOK

I will win my mate’s love to me. Grim and Kor were able to do the same with their women. I, strongest warrior of the Bitter Sea army and right claw to the king, should have no trouble with such a task.

But my beautiful mate is of the strong and stubborn sort. I need to earn her trust, learn her ways, and get her to open up to all I offer her. So I take her on a trip away from the settlement to the Bitter Sea coast. She wants to see the ancient records there, and it gives us time to be alone.

The further we get from the settlement, the closer we become.
And the more I learn about my lovely little mate. For example, the fact she’s scared of me. At first it bothers me, but then I realize it shouldn’t. Why?

Because she likes it.
Taylor likes the frisson of fear I drive under her skin.

I will happily play the predator for her.
I can be whatever she wants me to be.

Her love.
Her mate.
Her monster.

fun but repetitive series

10 books and the climax is the same for every single one - the male mc gets injured or almost killed. Can’t there be one where the female mc gets hurt or captured and we see the male mc either feel his heart completely break or go absolutely feral. Guess that’s too much to ask for.

Cute enough. I found some of the accent overplayed at times, but it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
Taylor took some warming up time, but was more open to the idea of a mate than a lot of the previous women. She was, understandably, anxious about the size difference. They had some good chemistry.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: violence, questionable consent for being nude in front of another

Promises Promises

The story pacing is achingly slow so it takes a while for any momentum.

After teasing the love sick Tok, Taylor asks if it's hard for him to keep it together after giving him a severe case of blue 🏀s and Tok's reaction: "It is. But you need not concern yourself with my discomforts, treasure. Even I do not concern myself with such things. The only comfort I care"

This interaction dropped at 40% and then it all crystallized with why the book bored me when it shouldn't have.

Tok has all of these great Alpha traits but he is boringly patient. He restricts himself so much and never crosses a boundary or line to test the heroine. He never puts a wrong foot forward. I get it. This isn't a dark romance but it feels like putting a Ferrari energy in a kia sol. He's sexy brute strength, Taylor likes being "prey", but she can "command" him and control him. Everything is basically "whatever you wish Taylor" and that gets real old real quick.

Instead of being a strong give and take it became: "you are my treasure", " whatever you want treasure", "my 🐓 no longer belongs to me, it belongs to you"..... Deep sigh. He's saying this all while Taylor is in her " oh no, I can't. I think I'm attracted to you but you are an ALIEN, how can I be attracted to him" thoughts.

The author also repeats herself by re-explaining what was already explained. For example,

“See you back at the tent. Peut-être,” Camille said with a smirk from down in her spot on the sand. I remembered enough of my high school French to know that “peut-être” meant “maybe."

And in case we didn't catch the insinuation it was spelled out immediately....

"If it weren’t so cool out here at night, I would have broken out in a nervous sweat at her insinuation – the insinuation that I might not come home tonight, so to speak. That I might spend the night with Tok." 😒

Poor Tok becomes almost neutered in how perfect he is with perfect responses while Taylor barely does anything but gawk. Everything is in service to Taylor. Tok states his parents died but loneliness is only when he's not with Taylor. After pouring out his heart about his loneliness when she isn't around:

“But you are not responsible for such things, Taylor. I do not tell you these things to pressure you, nor to sway you. It is honest, and it is how I feel. But it is... Not your problem, so to speak.”

Taylor swooned, I gagged. It's not fun reading about a big brute of a warrior be led around by his nose and the heroine does nothing really to reciprocate at all. He can comb her hair lovingly with claws but she never touches him affectionately. He will mention the love for his people, King, and land but it all pales to his love for Taylor. Ok, I guess, but tell us about your childhood. Tell us how you became so trusted by the King. How affected are you by your people's land? These points are how you build character momenlovesnstead it's all in throwaway sentences combined with how much he loves Taylor. Taylor, why are you a historian? Do you miss home? How are you finding your place in this alien world? We never find out. She's just constantly stating why it's wild to want an alien.

All in all it just wasn't fun

I didn’t like it. The primal “kink” felt too forced, unnatural. The story beats are the same as in the other books, and it’s getting boring. They always have to travel somewhere, and MCs always end up beaten up, captured and almost dead. It’s like the author can’t think of something else that will make a good climax. She seems to forget that the magical dragon milk effectively eliminates any stakes there could have been because they get healed immediately and completely. Also, everything feels so shallow. Taylor is a walking stereotype, and even that feels superficial, like having her say “lassie”, “och” and “wee bit” a bunch of times (and let's not forget her last name is Bruce) would make her a Scott. Whatever mentions of historical records or religion are going to be mostly forgotten in later books, as everything has so far. The “portraits” of the Gahns (that absolutely no human has seen, they just believe the aliens) were mentioned once in a previous book, once again here at the beginning, and no more.
The author keeps adding characters, but nobody feels real, there’s no time to establish an emotional connection because they’re just there for their books and disappear after that. And in their books both MCs are always alone, going away from their “friends” (that we’re told they have), rarely talking to anyone who isn’t their love interest. This makes the world feel incredibly empty. And there’s no need to add a new tribe when we haven’t even explored the six we’ve got so far.
And somehow everyone knows what happened in previous books, even though some things would be impossible for them to know. For example, how does Tok know Valeria pointed a gun to Grim’s penis? he wasn’t there, and with the animosity Grim and Valeria have against him, I highly doubt any of them would mention it to Tok. I got several books in the series for free, so I’ll finish reading those. But I’m considering stopping.

I stumbled across Ursa Dax and her romance Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords series after finishing up reading books from another author. I wanted something a bit different from normal romance and decided that Sci Fi romance was the go because anything can go. Let me tell you I really enjoyed them and read the whole series one straight after the other,
Alien men in all sizes and shapes, all growly and protective of their mates was just what I needed. Of course, it takes a while for the abducted Human women to come around but that is just part of the fun.
Ursa’s world building makes it so easy to imagine the world she has created, and the characters are so easy to fall in love with.
If you love Sci Fi romance that is messy, sexy, a little alien erotica and fated mates then Ursa is your gal.
I was not disappointed, and I know you won’t be either.

ARC reader here and only crap! This has got to be one of my favorites from the talented Ursa Dax!

With so many characters and story-lines going on in these bigger series I always worry that despite loving them so much I'm going to end up reading similar plots to others previously written but I've yet to come across that with this series!

Looking forward to the new developments happening outside the romance, and the romance in this book was absolute fire! I know this just officially came out today but I can't wait for the next one!!!

The scales-on-cave-walls-as-historic-records idea was so freaking interesting, and I quite liked Tok and Taylor‘s dynamic, too. But WTF is going on with that ancient stone sky god angel person???! I’m so intrigued, but I’m in the middle of midterms so ahhh 😭😫

I enjoyed this one more than I expected to, if I'm being honest. But good god was the "see, I've made her scottish!" with the use of slang and whatnot just driving me up a wall... Still, loved both she and the MMC!

I really liked Tok!! I love how confident and sexy he was. I liked Taylor too but the author trying to make her Scottish (I think?) by occasionally having her say wee and lass was just distracting and honestly felt kind of lazy.

OMG The Stone Sky God!!!

I loved Tok and Taylor’s story. She’s a decent FMC and he’s such a hard-headed warrior. He was giving me Fallo vibes but without the madness.

I'm torn on 4 vs 5 stars. 5 for plot, 4 for characters?

Tok wasn't my favorite but he was alright. If I had to pick a Bitter Sand dude though, I think I would choose Grim over Tok (and Kor over both). I'm a pretty serious person but Tok takes seriousness to the next level. Like humor is straight-up non-existent. There's times when it was used effectively to create humor or tension but other times it just felt.. dry. Very one dimensional.

I like that Taylor is documenting the events unfolding on Zaphrinax and starting a written record of the Bitter Sea people. That sounds hella amazing, to be honest, and I loved the little mystery plot line unfolding there. I can't wait for her to find out more - hopefully by documenting the oral history of the Sea Sand people and cross referencing certain events or timelines. Maybe even Melanie could get involved with the geological record, if it goes back far enough. I also enjoyed the lil intro to Priya, the cartographer, mapping the cliffs.

Overall the plot was great! Adventure! Action! Mystery! Intrigue! Plus the usual fated mates romance shenanigans. The rest of this review is notes I jotted down to myself about things that annoyed me while reading so take it with a grain of salt.

I appreciate that Taylor is Scottish and it's nice that the group is international and a little diverse but it had me wondering if the author ever met anyone from Scotland. The way Taylor was written to use 'lass' exclusively in place of any other term to mean female, girl, etc. got old really fast. I'm not a Scottish expert or anything but I've met and had a few Scottish friends and none of them used lass so exclusively like this. It just felt like a stereotype with zero research.

I've mentioned having a minor concern about the humans running into nutritional deficiencies down the road from only eating meat and cactus gel. Weirdly, I realized two books ago (Serena and Xyan) was the first time a garden was mentioned but it was only for medicinal plants and, in this book, an effort by Camille is being made to improve the food - but only in terms of adding seasoning to the meat and valok.

That's it? Who planned this mission? They packed water bottles and sunscreen but no food? No seeds? Nothing? The only other food mentioned was contraband snacks left behind by the dead crew. I'm just facepalming at this. I know it might seem like a weird thing to bring up but it's a series spanning the passage of several months of time now and other details were clearly thought of - like birth control - so why not this one? You know, a basic necessity for survival?

There was a spice scene towards the end that sounded hella uncomfortable with the contorting described but maybe it's comfortable for skinny, flexible people? I'm certainly not so I was cringing a little reading it and imagining how hard it would be to breathe and wondering if it'd break anything. My body is definitely not capable of doing that.

Another out of nowhere chapter (more of a tiny scene, really) from a different point of view than the rest of the book. And while it's kind of cool, I feel like there was more mystery without this perspective and the book could have done without it.

This one sucked ass for me to be honest. The misuse of the Scottish accent was so bad and so cringe. So many typos too just irked me. These books are definitely a vibes read.

I’ll apply the same below to all books in the series because it’s becoming a very repetitive theme for this author.

The one thing majorly majorly irking me about these books is that the women supposedly don’t feel the mate bond yet claim to be in love after 1 or 2 days.
The men claim how they’ve had to “work” to win the love of their mate.
It’s giving desperate.
It’s giving 12 year olds in the playground.
It makes me cringe when the word love is used so quickly.
It would make more sense if the mate bond was actually felt by the woman too to justify the super quick timeline?

We read these books for a good time; I know it’s not that deep or serious but i really really wish they’d give more time, more yearning; more background into the characters. This series could really *hit* if they just extended the timelines a little bit.

They need more push & pull for me.

This particular book:

Tok was boring as watching paint dry.
Taylor’s “Scottishness” was so embarrassing and fake.

As much as I like alien / monster / fae romance the MC needs to have an element of a human man about them. I am just not on board with the character looking like a lizard / crocodile I just can’t picture it and the use of the venom to make things languid was making me feel sick. It’s cool if people like this thing but I was having second hand pain at the thought of it and it definitely was not my thing. I want to get back to the kangaroo dudes asap.

Well, if Tok is not the embodiment of the fact that usually the biggest, baddest and scariest of exteriors very often house the softest, sweetest and most vulnerable centres. Possibly because of the very fact that they have these centres is why they have honed their impenetrable exteriors, yet for all that Tok is not afraid to show his inner self to Taylor. He is so patient and caring. He gives Taylor time to come round to seeing that there is more to him rather than just grabbing her and running off into the burning sunset. To give Taylor her due as well she is not one to back away from danger or claim defeat because the road might be tough. She also has a wonderful capacity for empathy, understanding and a curiosity which allows her to see more than is put in front of her. It could because she is a historian that she can see other facets to an event. She has learned that time can change how you view things and how they are accepted. To be fair she is a perfect foil for Tok and I love them as a couple as well as individuals. Maybe because they took a little longer to get together than others, I don't know. It is just wonderful.
Not sure who is now my favourite Kor or Tok, dang it! I have adored this series from the start, the characters and the world building. No two stories are the same and no two relationships are the same either and to top it all they just seem to get better.

5/5

Dual POVs; told in first person
Neither hero(Tok) nor heroine(Taylor) are virgins
Fated mates trope
Alien-planet-lack-uterus trope
Smexy scenes 💦 🍆 fellatio, high sexual tension, biting, big alien 🍆 , use of aphrodisiac (mating fluids from the male) and cock “spears”
Size kink, chasing kink, biting kink😩❤️
Actual smex happens at around 70%
Quite the long read.
No cheating; no other woman/man drama.
No angst
Hero has a more animalistic features

I like how Taylor comes to her feelings for Tok and how Tok shows his love for Taylor.
I mean how can you not love such a hulk of walking smex? 😩❤️
He’s so male and yet such a teddy bear for his fated mate!
+1 ⭐️: no one-thrust-colossal-alien-cock-into-vagina scene👍🏻 absolutely love how hero eases into the heroines body and preps her ❤️
Officially one of my favs ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Damn when is my turn to be dropped of the Sea Sand planet and meet a sexy alien? 😭❤️

Would I re-read? Maybe 👀

I would recommend!

I LOVED this tenth book of the series as each new couple presented brings a little more Je ne sais quoi into the Sea Sand Warlords timeline as a whole.
Taylor is the resident Historian of the Sands clan and Tok is the right claw to the Bitterseas King, and their heated fated mate story resonates with the reader along with the great writing that fuels the action, adventure, and intrigue. This was just another fantastic sci-fi romance playing out on a diversely imagined world of aliens and their human mates, an absolutely awesome read!

I received an ARC copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Didn't love this one as much.
Things I enjoyed: the primal chase stuff where she is half in fear/half lust
The caves with all the scales on the wall detailing the history, super interesting!
The stone sky god!? Wtf?? What? I need more!!!

What I didn't enjoy:
The nickname Treasure. The MMC called the FMC that every 2 sentences and it annoyed me. Speaking of annoy, they both bugged me. The MMC was an annoying, sappy, love sick wounded puppy and it was like he was constantly putting himself down and thinking he wasnt good enough

I am having a hard time picturing the hero. My mind ended up on the Geico lizard but with shark teeth and when he’s horny he drools what looks like blood. To each her own, but it’s not my kink. Also this is the second or third book I’ve tried by this author and the anal stuff feels predictable. The mating fluid makes room. Like how? Rearranging her internal organs? Dnf

💛 “Until the last wave hits the shore of my homeland. Until the sun stops rising from the water’s depths. Until the breath of this world is gone - and even beyond that - I am yours.”
~~~
Tok is the best and the strongest of the Bitter Sea warriors and Hakah Gog’s right claw. He’s so huge, confident, fearsome, dangerous, primal, intense and lethal. But Tok is so much more - I absolutely adored his tender, loyal, loving and fiercely protective side. That golden-scaled warrior is utterly irresistible and I couldn’t help but absolutely adore everything about him!
And Taylor is the perfect match for him! As a historian, she’s taken up the task to record everything happening on the planet. I loved how curious, kind, compassionate and understanding she is. Even more, she’s a woman who doesn’t shy from danger and I adored her bravery and feistines. Taylor is so wonderful and I loved that Scottish lass so, so much!
The development of Tok and Taylor’s relationship was spectacular! In the beginning, there was a lot of hesitance in Taylor. And, oh, the tension between them… But, despite his inner turmoil, Tok was so patient with Taylor, giving her the time to accept him. Even more, the fearsome warrior is such a romantic! The things Tok did for Taylor melted my heart and each loving gesture made me fall more and more in love with him. And he calls her “his treasure”! 💛 I adored Tok’s willingness follow Taylor anywhere and be everything she would need - her mate, her protector, her lover, her beast, her predator. Those two were truly spectacular together! And when they finally gave in to their attraction, the passion they shared was insanely hot!
In addition, so much is happening in this story! The humans in the research space station start to act and things don’t go as planned. Even more, we get to learn more about the Bitter Sea warriors and their history. And now I have so many questions! Especially about a particular wingy thingy… Argh, I NEED answers!
Overall, the story is another phenomenal addition to the series! It’s filled with adventure, danger, twists, action, suspense, drama, blazing hot romance and marvellous characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every single page of it! I’m so excited to see what will happen next!
great series
great book, off to read the next in series
They just get more & more exciting!
Uh oh ! They are getting closer.
Earth government has abducted women young college girls in a “forced” suicide mission to an alien dessert planet, to learn about their strange resources. They want to take it from them. However the primitive barbarian like males are not gonna just say sure, go ahead,take our sacred life giving dragon milk energy source. So instead of sending scientific or military trained professionals. The earth government kidnaps young professional women to get reconnaissance information with no intention or care as to whether the women survive or not. Why only, women you ask well.. the barbarians are probably less likely to kill them since they have so few of their own. But the sacred creature of this planet like a dragon god… has predicted the women to be mates for the primitive race. And could save their species and bring them together.
This is an earth abduction, alien fated mate romance. I was not triggered by anything in this book although there is some violence. Warriors will be warriors and they will fight to the death for their pretty earth mates
These aliens have tails, claws, talons, and unusual genitalia which is used in some very interesting ways to please the earth girls.
This lol is like Conan the barbarian meets land of the lost .. meets earth girls are easy. Lol *Trigger. There is a monster sized you know what and a magical fang liquid that turns a ladies insides to marshmallow like in order to allow something the size and girth of a baby’s head to penetrate. (this part was cringeworthy) So I skipped it was literally 4-5 pages x2 incidents including a back door invasion . So no I skipped the smex part far too cringy to read.*. Was not in any of the other books except for the previous book it’s when the woman begin to mate with the bitter seas warriors. (Now what I want to know is who is the stone winged god.)
Now I’m off to get the next in series
Series: Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords #10
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good
Tok knew who his mate was before his people crossed the sands to meet with the Sea Sand Warlords. He is the strongest warrior in the Bitter Sea army and the right claw of his king, so he is determined to win over his mate. But first he has to learn how to earn her trust and get her to open up to the idea of being his mate.
Tok and Taylor’s relationship was very enjoyable for me. Tok is a strong and proud warrior but he is also very patient and gentle. We see him take his time with Taylor and really give her a chance to fall for him, unlike some of the previous couples. I really liked Tok and his willingness to respect Taylor’s wishes. Also he really had a way with words and expressing his feelings for Taylor.
“And the truth is, Taylor Bruce, that you are my homeland and my heart. The only future worth finding, worth fighting for. The love I have for the Bitter Seas, for my people and my past, is foam scattered on the waves compared to what I feel for you.”
Taylor is the historian of the group and has been recording everything that has happened. She doesn’t really think anything about having a mate because it didn’t happen right away, so when Tok announces he is her mate, she gets a bit overwhelmed. As an archivist, I love that Taylor is determined to record what is happening and even transcribes the records of the Bitter Sea ancestors.
Taylor and Tok have a sweet and slow building romance (at least compared to some of the other couples). Tok gives Taylor time to get used to him and get to know him, which was wonderful. I really enjoyed their relationship and how it didn’t feel rushed and that these two really worked well together.
Overall, this was a great addition to this series. I am really interested in seeing what will happen next and hopefully find out who the stone god is.
I am a huge fan of this series. This is book 10. You should read these books in order as a lot happens outside of the romances related to the planet and the Earth soldiers who left the women there in the first place.
The book blurb seems to indicate the hero and heroine enjoy chasing each other. But that does not happen much in the book, twice only .
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER - huge spoilers huge spoilers
Hero is 10 feet tall and considered the best Bitter Seas warrior. (The warriors sort of look like a crocodile with fangs.)
Hero has "mating fluid" in his fangs that help turn the heroine on. He only ever uses it when she consents.
Hero and heroine go to look at the Bitter Seas records which are scales and writing recorded on cave walls. Hero reads that the stone god with wings came and cracked the sky. He doesn't know what it means. But heroine guesses that something bad came and chased the Bitter Seas warriors away from the previous home. Some of the aliens' names are the same at that cave and in hero's home cave on an island.
We find out later in the book the stone god was injured and thinks he is immortal. The planet helped him heal (although he is not 100%) but he heard the noise from the humans bombing the bad guys' space ship after they kidnapped Tok. So the stone god exists and is still alive. He opened his eyes and thinks he will leave his hiding place soon.
Valeria (human soldier who switched sides) has been cut off from the main ship. They know she is compromised and now on the aliens' sides. The humans want to know what the power source on the planet is. It is the aliens' god, the Lavrika's blood. They use it for healing but it also makes good bombs.
Tok and the heroine agree to be mates and live in his cave.
Alien Claw
Okay, it takes a special talent to make it believable that a 10 foot tall alien and an ordinary Earth girl could actually be in a loving and physical relationship. This author does it and with her usual poetry. The MMC is speaking of how lonely he feels when the MFC is not around,
“But you are not responsible for such things, Taylor. I do not tell you these things to pressure you, nor to sway you. It is honest, and it is how I feel. But it is... Not your problem, so to speak.”
Her thoughts about this,
“First, he breaks my heart by telling me he feels lonely for the first time because of the hold I have on him, then in the same breath, he takes full responsibility for his feelings.”
What I love about this interaction is how mature and grown up it is. Human beings rarely take responsibility for our feelings and it's pretty common to blame them on someone else. But not the guys in this series. I think it actually makes the MFCs act more grown up too (most of them are in their 20s).
On the downside, one thing that bothers me in this genre is when oral sex is given as a thank you for some behavior of the MMC. In this story, he gives her a ring made from one of his scales so she gives him a blow job. I hate seeing any part of sex being transactional. It cheapens it, makes it just a thing instead of an expression of love and affection.
With that said, my favorite line comes from that scene as he pulls a scale off his own body to make the ring. The (Scottish) MFC says,
“What are ye daein, ye daft lizard?!”
They really are a super cute couple.
Despite the author referring to Too as Grim in one chapter, and some aggravating punctuation issues as well as misused words it was probably one of my favorite books. I mean I can't really find anything bad about most of the male characters in her books (aside from Fallo), but usually I tend to be iffy about the female lead. I did like Taylor, and I pretty much loved Tok but his leader... yeah, I used to like him but when he decided that Tok would be used as a hostage and didn't care when he was an actual unplanned hostage pissed me right off. I also hated that there were basically only 3 human females and 2 males (one sand, one sea) to help rescue Tok. Like hello? We have five fucken tribes of sand sea people and 1 tribe of bitter sea people but yeah.. let's send 3 human females instead.
I will say yet again I hate, absolutely hate how they used the Lavrika's blood, not only to experiment on but now they made a bomb with it. Yes, it saved Tok but now you just made it abundantly clear to the humans that were searching for power what it actually is capable of... the potential alone is going to send them into an all out war.
And as if we didn't have enough to worry about, all of a sudden the author decided they needed some stone sky God to be introduced? That's a little weird and almost seems like some AI inclusion since it's so out in left field at this point... but if it is AI at this point, it'll be forgotten soon enough since AI never really follows through with plot points.
This is an absolutely incredible series! I knew this book would be fantastic but it exceeded my expectations completely. It’s book that tells the story of Taylor and Tok. Taylor is one of the new women and Tok is of the Bitter Seas clan. Taylor is hesitant to say the least when Tok tells her she is his mate. They end up going on a journey to a cave that tells the history of his clan that they have recently found. They have seven days to make the journey because after, well Tok has been given a mission by his Hakah. As Tok is his second in command he must do this mission but sadly it will take him away from his mate and may even take his life. Along the way though Taylor falls in love with Tok and theirs is a truly beautiful love story. The characters are phenomenal, Taylor is a Scottish lass who takes no rubbish, she’s sassy, feisty and when her mate is in danger she will do all in her power to save him. Tok is protective, possessive and determined to keep his treasure, his mate safe from those who try to harm her. The storyline is heartwarming, full of love, mystery and brings a new character in towards the end. I can tell the author has put her blood, sweat, tears, heart and soul into this series and I cannot recommend it enough. If you haven’t read any of this series you are missing out.
Primal kink Dom, anyone?
We really threaded the needle with this alien hero’s brand of scary Dom-energy: he was a consent king and fated mates-level devoted; but he was also bossy, he was genuinely turned on by her fear (so we really went there), oh, and he was the biggest, baddest 10 foot tall Godzilla-looking alien on the planet.
Horniness inducing venom: amazing. And is it just me, or can we say that once the character has a dragon snout instead of a human-ish face, we’ve fully crossed the monster Rubicon? It feels like an important difference 😅
But, because I’m in my picky era, there was an emergent property to this story that I wasn’t connecting with. It had the following there’s things—which I didn’t enjoy happening all at once…
◾️ a primal/prey kink awakening
◾️ a hot-and-cold heroine who doth protest too much
◾️ only a seven day timeline until the big baddie stuff
Idk, something about the story containing all three of these made it feel slightly stressful to me. Yet, if it had contained only two of them (in any combination), I would have loved it. Am I making any sense? 🤔
