Non, je ne regrette rien (No I don’t regret anything)

Reading A Reservoir Man by L J Ambrosio was me stepping outside my comfort zone and I am so glad I did. A Reservoir Man has a deeper meaning in the story than just a title for the book.

From the day he was born in 1947, Michael was looked at differently. He had a harelip and all the old wives tales and folklore made his life more difficult than it had to be, but his parents loved him, unconditionally. His innocence makes him a victim to those who prey on the naive. I love that he was able to rise above it. Some people are givers, some people are takers, and Michael is a giver. I love that he is an observer. I, too, like to people watch. We both have an affinity for benches, a great place to watch people from. He was used and abused, yet still kept moving forward. I felt so many emotions while reading A Reservoir Man. The story feels like a true life biography. AND, the ending….brought tears to my eyes. Well done, L J.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of A Reservoir Man by L J Ambrosio.

A Reservoir Man is a coming-of-age fictional story filled with emotions and thought-provoking content. Right from the beginning, you are connected with the author’s tragedy and heartbreak. You instantly understand the narrative and the character.
I found the book to be extremely unique and heartfelt. This is a truly wonderful journey to read, and you find yourself thinking about it after it is over. The literature is powerfully written, and it’s an emotional story.

Let’s also talk about the cover design. It is beautifully designed, and it represents the content inside. What I particularly found novel about this work was that it had a unique approach and perspective to it. This is a hard thing to find.

I recommend this book to those who like to read a well-written and engaging storyline.

A Reservoir Man is Michael’s story from when he was born in 1947 to now. Michael has had a lot happen in his life and we read about it almost in an autobiographical format. The story has the voice of Forest Gump. Many things happen to Michael and he does not seem to be fully aware of what just happened and what it means. This reminded me of Forest Gump. The book is easy to read and well written. It is a coming of age story as Michael feels out his life and what he wants to be. This book would be especially good for the LGBTQ community. The Reservoir Men are men that live/hang out around a reservoir because this is where they can be their true self, a self that is not fully accepted in society. Michael tries different paths to see what works in his life. This is an important message for anyone. You don’t need to follow what you ‘should’ follow. You can explore and find out who YOU are. Michael’s life is very interesting and I enjoyed hearing his story.

The Review

This was such a moving and powerful coming-of-age story. The heartbreak and tragedy the protagonist goes through balances out with the tone of hope and awareness the author infuses into the narrative. The way the author hones in more on deep character development and the emotional core of the narrative over world-building was refreshing to see, as it allowed readers to really connect to the story in a personal way.

The characters of this story were truly the heart of the narrative. Michael’s story is so heartbreaking and his experiences encompass so many people’s own experiences in life, and yet his never-ending pursuit of acceptance, hope, and identity is the push forward to overcome those tragedies that so many of us are constantly seeking and the way the history and events that he lived through became the tapestry for which his story rose was incredible to read.

The Verdict

Heartfelt, engaging, and thought-provoking, author L.J. Ambrosio’s “A Reservoir Man” is a must-read coming of age story of 2022. The themes that the author explores, from betrayal and family to secrets and identity, become the perfect backdrop to the protagonist’s story and make the twists and turns in the narrative even more impactful.

A Reservoir Man
By – L. J. Ambrosio
Format – Kindle Edition
Print Length – 238 Pages
Genre – Fictional Memoir
My Ratings – 4.7/5
I assume you've all read plenty of coming-of-age stories where the protagonist matures from childhood to adulthood; this is my most recent book recommendation for you. But don't assume this book is average; once you start reading it, you can't stop since it has such a unique tale. L. J. Ambrosio's novel A Reservoir Man is the one I'm referring to.
I initially misunderstood the title because Reservoir actually has a distinct meaning and has nothing to do with the plot. Later, after I had started reading, I felt that the book was a wise option. Michael, who has undergone a lifelong transition, serves as the central character. Michael's life begins in 1947 and continues through numerous changes till the present. Even if it is intriguing to read about his life, he did not have an easy existence.
In order to achieve that independence, Michael must travel a winding path. Numerous events that alter his life occur, ranging from sexual orientation and exploitation to family reunion and acceptance. His change was the product of a lot of ups and downs.
Even though this book is fiction, it reads like a biographical account that is packed with excitement and revolves around every single thing that Michael experienced in his life, including love, sex, betrayal, death, and many other things. The book is a great page turner since it has a lot of twists and turns that will keep anyone's attention until the very end. Even though the book's ending is very emotional, it manages to keep you interested throughout.
Overall, I thought it was a terrific book with excellent narration and thorough writing. The writing style was also excellent because it clearly explained the background information right away. The narrative featured numerous minor side characters that played noteworthy roles. Readers will also experience romance in the narrative when Michael discovers sex. I really urge each of you to read the book because it is worthwhile.

🌟The book i am going to recommend you today is "A RESERVOIR MAN" by L. J. AMBROSIO. The book is packed with powerful theme although it will remind you of the movie 'The Forest Gump' but the author has adapted well to keep the readers attention throughout the book. I personally enjoyed the book very much and it was quite an emotional roller coaster for me where you will feel different kinds of emotions and get connected to the characters like your instant friends.🌟

✨The plot of the book revolves around a man named Michael who has seen so many changes in his life and the story starts from his birth in 1947 and then it follows the whole journey of Michael till now where he has gone through almost everything including love, sex, betrayal, etc. His family supported him in almost every phase of his life. He defines "A Reservoir Man" as a man who does exactly the same what was expected of him but not challenges himself to become what he truly wants and that was quite inspiring to me to be honest.✨✨✨✨✨

✨There are many secrets which discloses as the story proceeds and the twists and the turns will literally blow your mind and the book will make a permanent place in your heart. The book is very well written and the style of writing by the author is something I admire the most as it feels refreshing throughout the reading and the character of Michael was so good that you will fall in love with him and his innocence. The book is perfect in length neither too stretched nor too short with a good cover and a perfect title this book needs your attention for sure. The journey of freedom of the Michael was so inspired and entertaining and with an emotional climax this one just gets better and better. Overall it was quite a lovely read to me and i will definitely recommend it to you all.✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

*this book was sent to me by the author*

I enjoyed this book which is a coming of age story about a guy named Michael who has a eventful journey in his life where he learns about love, sex, death and more. This book was totally not what I expected when I saw the cover as I was thinking of a mystery but it did surprise me. The author has an incredible writing style and knows how to gets the reader's attention. The setting, pacing, and plot was well structured and I enjoyed how there was a timeline along with each chapter. This story was kind of like reading an autobiography of someone's life which I haven't read in a while. One thing about the writing I do have to say is that the author doesn't use a lot of pronouns. It's always the character's name and should have been "he, him, etc."

The main character in this book is Michael and I enjoyed his character. You get his pov ever since he was born until his 50s which I thought was cool. He develops a lot throughout his years as you can see so much progression. There are also many side characters in this book where some will leave and new characters will appear which was different in a good way. I really loved Michael's parents who were very supportive of him. There is romance in this book but it's more of Michael finding out who he is with relationship and learning about sex.

The ending was sad but well done. This was an enjoyable book and I did have some minor problems. There were some scenes which I was confused about and the pronouns but overall a great read. I do recommend reading this book as readers especially men can learn so much from it. This book is a coming of age story where many readers will be hooked from page one.

"A Reservoir Man" is a book written by L.J Ambrosio. Speaking of the writer, L. J. Ambrosio began his career as a theatre producer and is running two major regional theaters for eight seasons. He has taught nearly in seven universities. He has carved a name for himself as an award-winning film producer. As a novelist, he has penned a piece that is best known for its technical qualities. I am wondering if it must be because of the experience he gained during his theatrical times. The book "A Reservoir Man focuses on a coming-of-age story that will highly impress anyone who comes across this wonderful piece.

The book is completely packed with a proper plot, theme, action, and style. This book is fully sprinkled with twists and turns. Some of the twists and turns are expected and some are unexpected and make your head spin. The usage of common themes which evokes the interest of the audience like trust, betrayal, friendship, family, secrets, mystery, etc keeps the readers hooked from the beginning till the end. The usage of the bildungsroman strategy where the focus is on the transformation of the centripetal character is the crux of the story. The story of Michael from 1947 is traced faithfully without any filters. At times it gives a sense of reading a journal entry. I will love to watch this as a movie or a series because of the various issues held in better daylight.

Moreover, this book is meticulously planned and written as well. The narration style is aptly chosen for the subject handled by the author. The book is written in a language that is comprehensive to readers of all ages. Henceforth, this book is recommended to young adults and adults as well as this would fit their age and taste.

Recently finished reading the book A RESERVOIR MAN by L. J. AMBROSIO and it was an amazing experience reading this coming of an age story by the author. It will remind you the movie "Forrest Gump" as it is a book based on a man's journey throughout his life. The concept of the book is amazing and the theme is the talking point of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and looking forward to reading more from the author.

This is a tale of Michael beginning from his birth in 1947 till now and a lot of things including ups and downs happened in his life and we hear the story in autobiographical format from the micheal. Michael has seen a lot of constant changes in his life and he defines "A reservoir man" is a man who settles in his life from what is expected of him without challenging himself to find his real self. The extraordinary story of Michael explores the various phases of his life which can inspire a lot of people out there. The family angle and the true meaning of love and exploration of sexual orientation was something to read in the book.

The writing by the author has been amazing and you will barely find any loopholes in the story and the plot. The characters are well written and used well and strategically. The character of Michael was an amazing experience to read. The whole vibe of the book is feel good and the ending is quite emotional which will warm your heart and it will make a separate space as the journey of the Michael is heart touching. The language is easy to understand and narration is quite good mostly in first person.the length is perfect and the plot is gripping which makes it a perfect book to read. So it is highly recommended for you.
I thank author for the free copy of the book.

Sometimes, a good book can do funny things with time. I flew through this book and in many ways it felt like it was over in the blink of an eye, but I somehow lived a whole lifetime while doing it.

A Reservoir Man tells the story of Michael, a man born in the 1940s, as he grows up through the latter half of the twentieth century. We get to live it too through his eyes, and there is a danger with this sort of book that it feels like a grand tour of global disasters, but Ambrosio struck the balance perfectly. Michael’s life couldn’t help but be scarred by the AIDs crisis, or by 9/11, but life still continues and that was written to great effect.

📚Find this and other reviews on my blog!📚

For most of the book, I felt quite ‘arm’s length’ from the action; like I wasn’t quite being let in to the emotion of the characters. It was all worth it though; when that emotional catharsis did come at the very end, it made it all the more effective and packed a punch in the final page.

The one drawback for me was the writing style; the author’s background in film definitely shone through as the narrative had a screen-play feel to it, and it would have been nice to have a smoother, more varied prose. That being said, it may be to some people’s personal taste, and it did make it a much faster read.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy; all opinions are my own.

📚A Reservoir Man📚

The book has a self-depicting feel to it as Michael fights for his spot in news sources. I was moved by Michael's assumption and assertion that were never diminished by each one people that used him and deluded him.The story has the voice of Woodlands Gump. Various things happen to Michael and he doesn't transmit an impression of being totally aware of what just happened and what it suggests. This assisted me with inspecting Woods Gump. The book is easy to check out and luxuriously made. It is an oncoming mature adequate story as Michael comprehends his life and what he should be. This book would be especially truly great for the LGBTQ social class. The Store Men can't do whatever it takes not to be men that live/balance out around a stock since this is where they can be their veritable self, a self that isn't totally seen in the public eye. Michael endeavors different ways to deal with seeing what works in his customary presence. This is an essential request for anyone. The central individual in this book is Michael and I participated in his character. You get his pov since he was brought into the world until his 50s which I recognized was cool. He fosters a ton all during his experience as you can see such a ton of progress. There are similarly many side characters in this book where some will leave and new characters will appear which was changed unmistakably.

I personally loved reading this book. One of a kind and I enjoyed reading it If you want to know grab your copy and start reading. This book is definitely worth the purchase and worth the read.

"A Reservoir Man" is the kind of novel that comes around once in a lifetime, readers of certain generations can identify that one novel that defined their lives and experiences. Novels that capture the essence of a period of time, a mentality of a set of years and place. Some time ago, people had described that book as being "Catcher In the Rye," some people years later would say "On The Road." There is no novel that greater captures the struggles, hopes, dreams, and lives of Americans from the mid 1970's to the early 2000's than "A Reservoir Man." The characters are thoughtfully written, the prose are clear and concise, the journey is full of wonder and pain. Michael is a literary figure as meaningful and important as Holden Caulfield, Dean Moriarity, Jay Gatsby, Stephen Dedalus, and many more...yet his catharsis is even more deeply felt to the modern reader. If you have a chance to read "A Reservoir Man," pay attention, because this is undoubtedly a powerful voice of a new generation. In the same way that it is breaking new ground, it is also just as classic, no one quite writes like this anymore, especially in the altogether forgotten important genre of the the coming-of-age story. These stories, when done to this great effect, are so profound that they force you to grow along with a character. A book that engages the reader in the process of development, of learning, of living can help them to move into a new plane of existence where wisdom and pain are all part of the journey to overcome "The Reservoir Man" or the obstacles in our lives.

I am still slightly confused about the meaning of ‘reservoir man’. I have had to go back to the beginning of the book and search for the first few times it is mentioned. I think it is based on the men who hung around the reservoir at the top of the hill. Michael needs to get to the top of the hill. But it appears that these ‘reservoir men’ are wandering around aimlessly. Michael doesn’t want to do that. He wants to find purpose in his life and be free from the constrictions put on him by society and religion.

But it’s still only the 1960s (Michael was born in 1947) and things we take for granted today are frowned upon or illegal.

Michael was born with a harelip but he is still attractive to both men and women, though I don’t think he realises it. He is very clever even though his initial school career doesn’t reflect this. He has friends and many casual relationships with men, but none of them last. Sometimes he is very naive. He starts businesses, but they seem to fold or run out of steam quite quickly. At times he seems to drift without purpose, even though that is not his intention.

He adores his parents Andy and Frances, but seems to spend a lot of time away from them. He is a man of contradictions. His life doesn’t stabilise until he adopts his two children. Even then his business operations run into trouble.

During the 1980s AIDS had become a worldwide pandemic. Michael loses almost all his close friends and colleagues to AIDS.

The book follows Michael from birth to old age, and everything in between. He is sexually assaulted as a young man, though he doesn’t seem to realise he was assaulted. He travels around Europe, is arrested in Spain, escapes the Vietnam war draft, witnesses 9/11, and survives a Hollywood scandal. He strives for freedom and truth as he tries to find his identity.

Michael’s father Andy once told him that ‘men don’t cry.’ Michael repeats this on several occasions, including to his son Joshua. But the very last paragraph will have you in tears, whatever your gender.

Many thanks to @zooloo2008 for inviting me to be part of this blog tour.

A Reservoir Man by L.J. Ambrosio will be many things to many people. It’s a coming-of-age story, as well as, a treatise on finding your true self.

The tale is told in an autobiographical narrative, connecting the character with the reader in an entertaining style.

Michael gave me a bit of a Forest Gump vibe in the way he was extremely naive and perhaps, because he does his best ruminating while sitting on a bench. The location of the bench changes throughout the story, but it remains a consistent theme.

Beginning in 1947, Michael’s life travels through many changes until the present day. No one truly lives without constant change to their thoughts and perceptions. This is especially true of Michael, who strives to avoid being what he calls, a “Reservoir Man”. His definition is of a man who settles for what’s expected of him without challenging himself to find his truth. Truth and freedom are Michael’s ultimate goals.

Michael’s journey to reach that freedom is a twisting, turning path. He encounters numerous life-changing events, from sexual orientation and exploitation to found-family and acceptance.

This is a thought-provoking story that will resonate with readers wherever they are in their personal journey. I expect everyone to take something different from this tale, but no one who reads it will be unaffected.

My first thought when picking up this book is it was about a guy who liked to swim. Or maybe a guy who takes care of drinking water for a community. Or maybe a guy who owned a bourbon warehouse. Alas, this is the story about a man.

This is the story of Michael. It takes roughly half the book to get that it is a coming-of-age story about someone who might have been called a type of savant in the 50s and 60s. The question of your personal identity is foremost in this book.

The bigger point here could be that it isn't necessary to quickly determine your identity and direction. You can let life lead you down a path and see where it goes and there is nothing wrong with that. Michael, at times, seems like the pinball in a machine that just bounds about the board. Sometimes he hits a bumper, sometimes he hits a flashing light. There is possibly a bonus round at least once.

A book that could be beneficial for LGBTQ readers. A book for people who like to read coming-of-age stories. Not many coming-of-age stories are like this book. The chronological nature of the writing does make it easier to follow.

Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I'd review it. My thoughts are all my own.

“A Reservoir Man” is perhaps one of the strongest coming-of-age stories this year. The fictional story of Michael, set in the 1960s, is reminiscent of stories I have heard from male gay friends over the years. Years of accepting their identity; numerous relationships that led nowhere but resulted in knowing themselves better; and the final acceptance upon finding their place in the world. Ambrosio captures the lack of self-confidence, the yearning to just be loved for who they are, and the feelings of isolation and loneliness.

The book has an autobiographical feel to it as Michael fights for his place in the entertainment industry. I was touched by Michael’s hope and determination that were never diminished by all the people that used him and betrayed him.

Emotions are strong as Ambrosio writes of the many friends Michael loses to AIDS, the adoption of his children, and his relationship with his best friend, his dog Buddy. The final scene in the book is heartbreaking yet comforting.

I would be remiss if I did not reveal that the book is in need of some serious editing. However, if you are able to strip that away and focus on the story itself, I think you will be touched by the story.

This story spans the years from 1947 – the current time. Part coming-of-age, part an insightful look at one man’s journey through life in a very intense time of history, especially for a gay man.

It makes me think of an autobiographical memoir instead of fiction. The character of Micahel truly expresses the confusion he goes through trying to figure his life out and the pain he feels as he begins losing friends to AIDS.

Michael’s desire is to not be a reservoir man – not to be the kind of person who only does what’s expected of him instead of who he truly is. Michael’s sole aim in life is to find his own truth…and to help others find theirs. He does this throughout his life, and he finds he does some of his best thinking on a bench, watching the sunset. I really admired this character – in all his decisions, his main goal was to do the right thing.

The book was easy to read, and the dates at the beginning of each chapter helps ground the reader. There are some heartbreaking parts, especially the last chapter. But, even with that, the book ends on a hopeful note with the author stating “Non, je ne regrette rien.” (No, I do not regret anything)

Thank you, Mr. Ambrosio, for giving me the opportunity to find out a part of life I did not previously know much about.

A RESERVOIR MAN is a fictional account of a man named Michael and his life story. It begins with his birth and ends with him in his late fifties or sixties reminiscing about the life he lived. The main plot of the book is Micheal's journey with battling with his sexuality and who he is in society.

This book read like a memoir and I wonder if the main character's story is actually the author's story. While I researched the author, L.J. Ambrosio, I didn't find any evidence to support this suspicion. But would not be surprised if there was a little of the author's story in there because of some of the more passionate and sensitive scenes.

I normally stick to my mysteries and thrillers because they're my favorite reads. I must say this wouldn't be a book I'd pick up at a book store but I'm glad I read it. It gave me an insight into a gay man's life, his struggle with being gay, AIDS, and how he viewed the "AIDS" scare during the eighties.

I will end my review with my favorite line in the book. "Find your truth, look deep into yourself, and when you understand what is there, you will see that man is inherently good; what your truth is, that is what makes you, you!" Something, I believe, a reservoir man would say.

Michael reminded me a little of Forest Gump because of his extreme naivete and possibly because he thinks the best while sitting on a bench. The bench is a recurring concept even though its location shifts throughout the narrative. Michael's life begins in 1947 and continues through numerous changes until the present. Nobody truly lives if their opinions and perspectives don't change frequently. Michael, who tries to avoid being what he terms a "Reservoir Man," is a prime example of this. He defines a man as one who gives in to expectations without pushing himself to discover his own truth. The ultimate objectives for Michael are truth and freedom. In order to achieve that freedom, Michael must travel a winding path. Numerous events that alter his life occur, ranging from sexual orientation and exploitation to family reunion and acceptance.
Readers will find a connection with this story no matter where they are in their own personal journey. Everyone will interpret this story differently, but no one who reads it will be unaffected. I’m highly recommending this book to everyone.

A Reservoir Man by L.J. Ambrosio is a brilliantly written coming-of-age fictional memoir that is sure to steal your heart and leave you craving for more.

This book had nearly everything that makes it a perfect read - good writing coupled with great plotting and exceptional pacing, strong characterization, a lot of tension in the right places and a complex yet identifiable and relatable concept. I enjoyed reading this book because of the amazing and realistic characters that were incredibly relatable and made me want to "know more and more" about them, even the secondary characters.

I'd highly recommend this book to all readers of memoir and fictional memoir genres as this book has a lot to offer all its readers.

In this book we follow the story of Michael from the moment he is brought into the world. At times it's a hard story to grasp but it is told with honesty and compassion. The characters are all well written and the plot had action galore. Although I found it hard to follow, I think if I reread it, I would understand and comprehend more. It is the type of book where you have to take in and absorb every word. I did enjoy that there was never a quiet moment. A beautiful and sad coming of age novel.

Wow, this is REALLY well done. I enjoyed the number of figures the characters come in contact with and they will astound you.
The characters feel very real, and I think he did an expert job at capturing the emotions of the characters.
The story is well-developed, and the characters come to life through the writing.
This is beyond just a fiction book, it’s a book of self discovery and the journey to get there.

This was an original and at times heartbreaking read that I couldn't put down. Right from the start this coming of age book gripped me instantly and it was like a sucker punch to the heart. The amount of raw emotions in this boom that I felt palpably coming of the pages was unlike anything I've ever read and left me unable to breath at times.

I cannot recommend this book more if you enjoy character driven, beautifully written and viscerally emotive reads.

An amazing read

Clear and concise in the writing, I connected to the character right away.

The writer portrays happiness, sorrow, loss and grief inside of a story that will touch the reader drawing them in.
