I've used Lonely Planet guides abroad before but never thought of trying out the London one until I saw it come up on the Amazon Vine list for review. This is a brilliant resource for tourists or even for people who visit London fairly regularly. It is small enough to be easy to carry but also has a fold out map that will come in extremely handy.

I love the fact that it is spilt into different areas (Westminster, Covent Garden, Bloomsbury, St Pauls, South Bank, Kensington, Regent's Park / Camden & Greenwich) and includes a suggested route (along with recommended tourist hot spots) for if you only have a day to explore. The guide lists top tourist attractions, suggests walks and areas to visit for shopping trips and even includes places to eat and night life hot spots.

At the back there is a best of London section that includes things like markets, museums, parks, views, architecture, tours, churches, hidden sights and festivals.

This is a guide book I'll be dipping into again and again in the future to help me gradually explore more of London

Lonely Planet Pocket guidebooks are the best. How else could I have planned a week in London with so little effort? They offer suggestions with just the right amount of summarized detail; provide clever tips to maximize your time most efficiently; share advice that’s organized in the most logical manner. No other guidebooks come close if you’re trying to navigate a visit to a big city.

This is a great little travel book that provides the reader with walks and sights in specific areas of London, small maps included, along with brief itineraries that can be done in a day. A great help in planning a trip to a London and lives up to being a “pocket” guide.

We're preparing for a third visit to London, so I am gathering guidebooks left and right to make sure we have the latest information.

This small volume (it is barely the size of my hand), published in May 2012, even covers information about the Olympic Village -- that's how up-to-date it is. With an included map and recommendations for restaurants, attractions and so on that include places off the beaten path as well as the big ticket items, it's the kind of book that will definitely go in the suitcase.

Despite having been to London before and read a great deal about the city over the years, I still found information in this book of which I had previously been unaware. It's packed with facts, suggestions and "survival guide" material like important phone numbers, how to use the phone, electrical outlets and such. If you are planning a trip, or even like to travel from your armchair, this little book is an outstanding addition to your library.

I live in England but bought this as I was taking a friend to London for the first time. The map is better than the one in the Amsterdam book (bigger and with more information, though still not showing the whole of london). The tube map was invaluable for planning journeys and so I didn't have to stop and look at maps on the busy underground.

We only had one day in london, so I didn't see many of the sights in the book. We did go to the Tower of London, and did the red bus tour.

I would definitely use this book again if I was going to London, there's a lot of information about different places to visit, eat and drink. Can't say how useful it would be to non-UK residents but, it does the job for planning a day out if you already live in the UK.

The information within the book itself is relatively good. There's a few sightings I wish were there, but that's alright. I found several places, restaurants etc that I wouldn't be able to find about on my own, and it's nice that it's all in one place! The map is really good. It's detailed and it also has both tube and bus routes. A downside I found was that the map is quite big. It's not THAT convenient to bring out when you're out (especially if it's windy) (it is possible to fold it quite nicely, so I suppose it is in fact manageable in some way), and one could also have had put in more of the areas east of Hyde Park..

Major sights and places to see covered in couple of sentences. Especially useful are the hints of the nearest Tube stations and Tube map (which naturally can be obtained online, but still). Bood divides London to six areas, which presented individually. Each area has a smaller map, presenting e.g. walking route of the area. In some cases this caused problems as the tiny map "cut off" without hint to the next map part, so tiny usability issue there. But pull-out map to the rescue then.

Another wonderful Lonely Planet book....easy to ready/easy to use/ to the point and it included a great city map of London. It was light enough and small enough to throw into my purse and was a handy companion on our trip.

Good for a short visit. The map was helpful. My only complaint is the restaurant suggestions were expensive and unappealing.

Did not have the warmth of a lonely planet book. While the information was accurate, it felt rather factual than enticing

Seems okay. I bought it for the map and detailed little guides for things, I can put it in my handbag. It's so tiny and cute!

Lighter on the historical details than I'd like, but then again, it is the pocket version.
