Denise Hunter is a go to author for me and A Novel Proposal is another wonderful read. Set on an island off the coast of South Carolina, this is a great beach read. Fun and realistic characters and their interactions kept me reading. Perky and outgoing Sadie is there for the summer to write a romance novel. She is having trouble because she has never been in love and has always written westerns. Sam is her neighbor in the duplex where she is staying. Sam had a hurtful breakup and Sadie grates on his nerves. Until he gets to know her. She built a Little Library on the beach access, and someone left a book with a special cutout and lovely piece of jewelry inside. The two make a deal. He will help her find the owner of the book if she will be his plus one at the wedding of his ex and cousin, who is or was his best friend. Real life events help Sadie come up with an idea for her novel. This is really a novel within a novel. Lots of fun with sparks, healing, trust, faith, and bumps along the way make this a great read that is a little different from other Denise Hunter books.

Finally a Denise Hunter book I like!
I even considered giving it 5 stars at one point.
Sadie is an author of Westerns, but they aren’t selling , so the publisher says she must write a romance or her contract will be severed. She says yes and her best friend offers her a beach house for the summer to help her find inspiration.
Of course there is a hunky man next door. Romance ensues.
Sadie was a bubbly, positive character who was a breath of fresh air. She was definitely naive when it comes to romance but this allowed her to build a friendship with Sam before anything even close to romance started happening.
Sam was fine. Typical male love interest. The drama in his life added some depth to him.
There was a tiny mystery plot line with an engagement ring that I enjoyed. Sadie’s assimilation into the beach town was sweet to read.
The romance made it though! They communicated. They were clear about expectations. It was so good. I was impressed for sure.
There was a touch of faith but I would consider it just a clean romance.
This gives me hope that I might like more Denise Hunter books in the future!
*Only kissing and they were mild scenes.

A cute little romance book. First time by this author. The cover is perfect for this book. I enjoyed the story and I love all the narrators too.

A Novel Proposal is a Women's fiction book that has been on my shelves for over eight months.
I was drawn to the book for the cover and the author who I have read before and enjoyed. Who wouldn't relish the idea of being able to relax on the beach for the summer while having a changing selection of books available at your fingertips at the Little Free Library?
Not having made a splash in sales, her publisher is not impressed and will not renew her contract to write more westerns and advises Sadie to turn in a book in a genre totally unfamiliar for her, reading and writing a romance When her friend offers her half a beach house duplex for the summer for relaxing and writing she jumps at the chance. In this enemies to more she meets the tenant on the other side of the duplex, grumpy Sam. He's had a bad breakup from his cheating girlfriend and he's not ready to allow his heart to get attached to another woman, namely Sadie and her. adorable dog.
The descriptions of the Little Free Library and the South Carolina beach is marvelous, and I'd love to be there. Sadie, an out of towner, just there for the summer is able to meet a lot of people through her library there and it sounds like a great conversation starter.
Sadie one day finds a book that has been donated to the library with something of great importance in it. She enlists Sam's help in trying to trace this item back to its rightful owner. After several weeks of phone calls and more they frustratingly seem no closer to finding the rightful owner than when they started. Will they find the items owner? I thought Sadie's character was a bit too pushy for my tastes, she barges into Sam's house unannounced quite often. She's just too over the top for me. I am neutral about Sam's character; he didn't have any redeeming qualities to make me really like him, but I didn't dislike him either. As Sam's heart starts to warm to Sadie, he finds out something about her that makes him sad and hurt. Can they talk things over and come to an understanding or will this romance fade away like the sunset? I enjoyed the book but it wasn't one of my favorites by her.

Sadie Goodwin has just been told by her agent that her Western theme book series has been sacked by her publisher and they want their advance back that she has already spent. Even though she got rave reviews, the sales didn’t match up. Instead, the publisher wants her to try her hand at writing romance, Sadie is horrified because she knows not a thing about writing romance. She isn’t a man magnet like her friend Caroline is because the truth is, Sadie has never been in love.
She accepts an invitation from Caroline’s mother to hole up at her new beach cottage on Tucker Island which she has recently purchased and completely renovated. Sadie hopes that being off on this summer vacation will help her stop staring at the blank computer screen.
Enter Sam.
He just wants to be left alone after being dumped by his ex-girlfriend Amanda who is now engaged to be married to his cousin, Tag. His family wants to know if he will be coming back for the wedding which is during the July 4th weekend. He doesn’t want any part but he’s warming up to the idea to come back for the wedding, but he wants to bring a date, he doesn’t want to come to the wedding as a single.
Sam doesn’t like Sadie pretty much on sight, he finds her perky personality to be pesty. He doesn’t want to be bothered by her but she keeps ringing his doorbell or bumping into the shared deck that the vacation home provides. She makes really loud noises while she is making a Free Little Library all the while she is trying to find inspiration to start writing that romance book…or maybe it’s called procrastination.
Novel Proposal was a cute read. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked Sadie. She was a little too perky for my taste but as I got to know her, her depth and weakness as a character was shown and I couldn't help wanting the best for her. Sam was easy to like even though in the beginning, he was grumpy for obvious reasons. While this isn’t a novel idea I felt a big sense of satisfaction as both Sam and Sadie did find out that communicating with each other helped them to move forward in their relationship if they did, in fact, want to be with each other. Even though Novel Proposal is an easy read, it does give you something to think about, and the reminder that sometimes working at something you really want may be hard at first, but it’s worth the work in the end.

I almost DNF’d this one! The main character was a handful; think Charro on steroids. Loud, obnoxious, impulsive and OMG every time she talked to her dog I wanted to throw the book across the room.
However, while Sadie Goodwin and I were like oil and water, I absolutely loved Sammy Ford. He’s the reason I kept reading…ok, that and the fact that this story centers around a Little Free Library. I loved it when Sadie made reference to other authors and books I’m familiar with or have read, enjoyed the clever use of epigraphs that opened each chapter, and loved the reminder that dissatisfaction with something can be directed towards motivation to start something new rather than wallow in self-pity.
This was a perfect beach read and a welcome distraction (well, after Sadie mellowed out). I’d recommend this one to anyone who loves LFLs, grumpy sunshine trope, and HEAs.

This was such a fun, refreshing, light contemporary romance and would be a perfect beach read! I enjoyed the characters, the writing aspect, the little free library, the romance writing 101 bits at the beginning of the chapters and the little mystery they followed surrounding the engagement ring added a nice touch to force them to bond. Some parts were a little predictable, but overall, such a cute, clean romance! I listened to the audiobook, and I was thoroughly entertained! 4 stars.

A Novel Proposal by Denise Hunter is another amazing romance! This book was so much fun to read. I thought the story line was original and the characters to be very likeable. The heroine was such a cute, fun and quirky girl, It made a wonderful match to the handsome and broody hero. The meet-cute was adorable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I loved the ending. It had an ending that was so happy I was giddy.

What do you get when you mix a trope-filled romance with an unlikable heroine, meandering dialog that doesn't move the storyline, and banal writing? Two stars, and that is being generous.

*no spice* Beach romance that deals with past relationship cheating/healing from that as well as Avoidant attachment style very accurately and compassionately. The setting was so relaxing a nice break from all this cold and I loved it was such an easy read to pick up and fall back into while having a hectic schedule. At times I swear it felt like it was personally calling me out though lol go figure.

I enjoyed listening to the audio version of A Novel Proposal. The narrator's voice was a little flat, but the story was so good, I kept listening. The characters were unique and the plot was well done. The intro to each chapter was a key element for romance writer's to include in their stories, and it was fun to see how Denise used each one. The setting was lovely, making it a perfect summer read!

A Novel Proposal was such a good read! I've loved many of Denise Hunter's other stories, so I was excited to start this one. It grabbed my attention right away and I couldn't read it fast enough.
The characters were great. I loved how the MC was an author trying to write her first romance and that story mirrored this one. An interesting storyline. ;)
I liked the quest of finding who lost the book/ring. I was surprised by how that storyline ended up.
All in all, A Novel Proposal was a great read and I recommend it to fans of contemporary romance. It was a quick and easy read.

I’ve got the feels and the hope in all things good again! Great story!
Sadie is an art teacher at an Elementary school in NYC. During the summer she writes western novels. Her publishers decide they want her to write a romance novel.
With the help of her friend she goes to North Carolina to write in a beautiful beachside duplex.
Sadie meets Sam, her neighbor who lives in town but is staying at her duplex.
He offers her a deal in order to help her with a favor.
It will take everything you’ve got to not want to jump inside this book not just to read it but to want to be in this town, or on that beach filled with amazing friendly, laid back characters.-
Only con is the publisher's name for kindle so annoying, it was everywhere. Please consider removing it for us ebook readers.
If you’re a fan of sweet romance, kind of like Hallmark, with some mystery and suspense, then read this, It was beautifully written. A page turner. Not my normal genre but I loved it.

Only con is the publisher's name for kindle so annoying, it was everywhere. Please consider removing it for us ebook readers.
If you’re a fan of sweet romance, kind of like Hallmark, with some mystery and suspense, then read this, It was beautifully written. A page turner. Not my normal genre but I loved it.

This book was AMAZING!! I absolutely adored it. The cover and name is adorable and so perfect for the book! The epigraphs in the beginning of each chapter was so fun and neat to read. Sam and Sadie were so cute together. I loved their chemistry. I liked that they were friends to lovers. I’m not a fan of insta love stories. So I liked seeing theirs progress. The Little Book Library was so cute, and I love them. My grandparents have one in their neighborhood I love to check every time I visit. This needs to be a hallmark movie! I highly recommend. It’s a perfect beach read or just summer read! :)

Denise Hunter has done it again! A Novel Proposal is pure reading pleasure! 5 stars!
What could be better than a romance book about a fiction author changing genres and writing her first romance book? I'll tell you what, a romance that also includes a mystery to solve involving a treasure found inside a book left at a homemade little free library!
I loved brooding summer neighbor Sam and bubbly optimistic Sadie with her little sidekick Rio. The beachside duplex is the perfect setting for this opposites attract story. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments, but my favorite would have to be,
"He'd known he was falling for her Thursday when he'd walked in on her one-woman conga line."
I also enjoyed the "Romance Writing 101" quotes. Such a cute way to start each chapter!
I can always count on Denise Hunter for a wonderful romance! A Novel Proposal explores all the emotional highs and lows of relationships and concludes with a terrific happy ever after readers are sure to be delighted with. Cute Book! is about an Art Teacher/Western Writer who needs to write a romance novel, and she doesn't know how to write one, because she had never been in love. I loved that the storyline had me hooked since page one and the way it centers around a Litte-free Libray and the beach setting was perfect, but I wasn't crazy about Sadie or her being a dog mommy (he/she) and like to talk all the time. I enjoyed Sam and his grumpiness and his relationship with his family.

This is a charming romance story! I listened to it on audio and I really enjoyed it!
The way that the main characters meet and start a friendship is really interesting.
One of my favorite elements of the book is the way that the Little Free Library is involved in the story! It's so sweet!

A NOVEL PROPOSAL, by Denise Hunter, is so much more than a page-turning romcom. Protagonist Sadie is a writer (I’m hooked already) who must change her genre and write her first romance novel. How interesting to read some of the inside workings of the publishing business. I also enjoyed the “Romance 101” quotes at the beginning of each chapter. The characters are well-developed and true-to-life. Loveable Sadie, the heroine, is cute, honest, and a little ditzy at times. Then there’s Sam—moody, proud, and cautious, all because his heart’s been broken. The interaction between these two is well-paced with clashes and reconciliations. It’s a perfect up-and-down emotional relationship. Theirs is an improbable romance, but chemistry cannot be denied. Yes, opposites do still attract. And if this isn’t enough, there’s a mystery to be solved involving something left in a book in a Little Lending Library. Perfect!
Denise Hunter can be counted on for a wonderful romance novel and a feel good read every time. With the emotional highs and lows of this world, I need a little “happily ever after.” Don’t you?

I love reading Denise Hunter's books. Her writing is solid and consistent. I have to say A Novel Proposal has quickly topped my favorites of hers!!!
The location couldn't be better, a North Carolina beach. There shouldn't be any distractions for Sadie to write her novel. Except she keeps creating them 😂

A Novel Proposal has everything a book lover will love (unless you don't like romance). There are plenty of literary references, a hint of mystery, a couple perfect for each other, and a surprising amount of humor. I could not get enough of this book. I highly recommend it.

There's something about Denise Hunter's writing that captivates me. The way she makes you feel every emotion as if i were the main character in her book, the way I'm able to visualize every scene vividly. Never a dull or boring moment. I love how this story incorporated some mystery element. The FMC finds a engagement ring in a book at her little free library and enlist the help of her neighbor to return the book to its rightful owner. In return for his help the MMC only request is for her to be his plus one at his cousin's wedding. Grumpy sunshine trope, forced proximity. The dialogue and the banter is chefs kiss! 😚 I enjoyed the story from beginning to end even the 3rd act breakup 🤣 I loved the side characters too I loved everything.

Author Denise Hunter is back with another beach read that will sweep you into the world of writing, waves, and love. Heroine Sadie Goodwin finds herself in the place where she has to completely reimagine part of her life and she's not sure how to do it. When a friend offers the use of a family cabin on the shore for the summer, Sadie jumps at it. When she arrives, she finds the gruff man on the other side of the duplex is all out of sorts, but he's really just protecting his heart. Their friendship develops over a mystery that keeps them working together until he learns she's been writing their story as her next novel. Has anything been real or just research? While a definite romance, this book has the depth of character and heart that keeps me coming back each time a new Denise Hunter novel releases. It's a great read.

Oh my goodness! I absolutely loved A Novel Proposal! This heartfelt novel has amazing characters, a beach setting, witty dialog, a dog, and much more! I laughed and cried. I wanted to smack some sense into the main characters. Basically, it’s got everything I love in a romance.
Sadie is an absolute delight. She’s been writing westerns that people love, but the sales are dismal. So her contract is cancelled. And, yep, she’s spent the advance. For both books. Her agent has some good news for her though, and it might help her not have to pay the advances back. They want her to write a romance novel. Never mind that she doesn’t read romance books, watch romance movies, or know the first thing about being in love….she’ll do it! And thanks to her best friend’s mom, she’ll escape noisy NYC and write from a beachfront duplex in South Carolina. That’s sure to inspire her, right?
Sam is just trying to get some peace and quiet. He’s dealing with some personal issues and doesn’t want to talk to people, so he rented a beachfront duplex hoping to just be alone. When Sadie, a natural chatterbox, moves in, Sam’s plans are thwarted. I love how Sadie’s personality drives Sam crazy at first, but then he realizes just how wonderful a person she is. She talks to everyone, and she really listens to people. She actually cares about others which is what leads Sam and Sadie on a quest to find the owner of a book with an engagement ring inside.
Sadie and Sam’s story is just so good! The beginning of each chapter has a little blurb (I’m not going to spoil it for you by telling you about them!) that you’ve got to laugh at. But they’re so true and so true to real life! Don’t miss them! I adored this book and was sad to come to the end! I highly recommend it to romance lovers. It’s inspiring and emotional and so so romantic! I hope you love it as much as I did!

This was a sweet, funny novel, very creatively done. I loved all the characters, especially the main guy and gal. She is a budding writer who has been told she must write a romance novel, because her westerns aren't selling. Only problem is she has never been in love and has no idea how to write a romance novel. The book proceeds chapter by chapter, laying out a brief simple instruction on how to write a romance novel and shows how Sadie manages bit by bit to create a romance with her next-door neighbor Sam, so that she has an example to use for her book. Only it doesn't quite work out the way she hopes.
This book is billed by several readers as Christian fiction, or Christian romance, but there is really nothing particularly Christian about it. However it could be described as clean romance.
