After Life: Answers from the Other Side

Rate this book
Internationally acclaimed psychic medium John Edward takes his talents to new levels and new countries in his fourth book, After Life: Answers from the Other Side. Join John and a documentary crew "Down Under" in Australia and across the United States, where he demonstrates once again that grief, healing, and hope are eternally intertwined and universal. John answers your most often-asked questions about how the mediumship process works on the "other side," while taking you inside his own life as a medium, a husband, and a new father. He shares what he's learned through his own recent losses, and demonstrates that you're never too late to forgive--and never too far away to love. In After Life, you'll be updated on the heartfelt stories and personalities you met in John's earlier books. Crossing Over: The Stories Behind the Stories (750,000 in print), and One Last Time: A Psychic Medium Speaks to Those We Have Loved and Lost. And as he does on his highly rated hit show, Crossing Over with John Edward, John will connect you with celebrities both here and on the other side--because, as John happily notes, there are no red-velvet ropes or VIP sections over there! He tops it all by getting a reading himself--which will help prepare you for a session of your own--and showing you what you should expect from any type of reading.

I read this so long ago.
I am a hopeful believer there is no downside to this type of paranormal.
But I am also a skeptic at times.
I also used to watch his show. When Edwards was here doing a show, I was also was there. The book, TV show, and seeing him live are all very different.
Can you have plants in the audience. Maybe so, but I wouldn't know that. The TV show is edited
and his book (s) speaks on what I knew before reading it. I enjoyed the book but wonder where he disappeared to. I hope there was no fraud, as I would be disappointed

A fascinating, first person account of life as an internationally acclaimed medium. Very warmly and openly presented, John Edward comes across as the guy next door who is trying to explain AND understand what he does as a medium at the same time.

In chapters with titles like, “Living on This Side”, The 9/11 Factor”, and “Papa, Can You Hear Me?”, this author offers readers the constant assurances that life continues after death. He includes key psychic readings done before thousands of people or in private in order to not only demonstrate that fact but to actually prove it with his transmission of incredibly accurate details. Whether its readings for famous people or family members of 9/11 victims, you can’t help but be touched by what Edward reveals.

Often telling stories about himself and his family members, Edward clearly lays out how communications with those who have passed out of this life can be highly beneficial and instructive. Again, using examples in his own life and in the lives of others, he shows how it is never to late to change attitudes, patch up differences or come to closure.

One very important thing comes across in this book and it is the heartfelt responsibility John Edward feels when transmitting messages between worlds, not only to the living but also to those who are no longer in this life and who are attempting to communicate. It is a very strong reinforcement of the man’s stance that this physical existence of ours is but one of many.

If you’ve ever wanted to get an inside look into what a highly skilled medium sees and does, this is the book for you. If you’ve ever wondered what problems such a person encounters, you’ll get the straight scoop here.

John Edward takes you, along with his documentary crew, to other countries, as well as to some celebrity interviews. Even more interestingly, he provides you with glimpses into his own personal life, and shares how what he's learned, affects him. For me, this book is reaffirmation of what I already know and believe.

I only read one chapter of this book until I realized that the author was a psychic medium. As open-minded as I try to be, the book just didn't resonate with me at all. This man may have a gift of prophecy, but that's between him and God.

From what I read, I did enjoy learning that the frequency of our vibrations enables us to experience those at higher or lower reverberations. I remember coming across that idea before in other works, and I've always found it fascinating. According to Edward, Heavenly creatures vibrate at a high speed while Earthly creatures vibrate at a lower one. Prayer and meditation increase our speed.

I ended up really enjoying this book. I found parts of it (especially in the first half) kind of rambling and repetitive, but ended up really into it. It felt a bit choppy and lacking structure but overall it still delivered an interesting and compelling message about people living on after physical death.

John has the same thinking on life and death as I was taught by my mother. I love reading his books and always know she is enjoying them with me.

His way of explaining how you review your life and reconcile or solve problems of that life before going on is a great learning tool

I always loved watching the Crossing Over show with my mom years ago. 💕 This book mainly recounts many of John’s readings and included some personal details into relationships with his parents and family. I was hoping for more details of the “After Life” but still appreciated the stories and validation that our loved ones are still with us.

A really riveting reading experience for believer and critic alike; and maybe even the turning point for the non-believer. The concept is brought home by straight forward writing (no BS) and the work is easy to understand.
I was really surprised with John’s writing style, seeing that this was my first experience. I love the fact that he uses humor the way he does and it is also not an exaggerated attempt at it either; the balance he maintains throughout the book keeps it interesting, fun to read and yet very VERY informative.
I believe a book should be read for what it is and judgment should be reserved about the writer’s opinion concerning certain subjects or ideas. I am saying this due to some people seemingly having an opinion about his thoughts around spirituality and about a few things he says about religion. I feel that the reader has to experience the book as intended and that should we want a writer to write only the things we want them to write or what we deem to be ‘okay’, then the punch-line of the book is lost and you could have rather wasted your time doing something else.
If you are open minded and willing to read about other people’s experience and maybe even to adopt some of the principles imparted by the writer, then go ahead and enjoy this book. If you are narrow minded or generally speaking an arrogant person living in your own little world, then don’t even bother!

Once or twice I felt like I am being treated a little condescendingly while reading, but realized that some readers might not have understood what he was trying to say in those sections if he had not done so; this helped me to quickly dismiss these parts and I still thoroughly made the most of what I was reading. In a sense I identified with some of the concepts he was talking about and realize that maybe this would influence someone’s opinion of the book. With this said, don’t go by only my review to decide if this is a book you would want to read… go and look for different personas who also read these books i.e. the skeptic, the devil’s advocate and the ‘hater’. You can then make up your mind and hopefully would also enjoy this book as much as I did.

I was talking with one of my coworkers about psychics and I mentioned that I enjoyed Sylvia Browne's books so she asked if I had ever read John Edward. I hadn't, so this was her recommendation.

I liked it. There are some interesting similarities between the two of them- they both have spirit guides, they both are able to communicate with folks from the other side. I like Sylvia's books more because she goes into the different topics of the unknown while Edward just seems to do reading after reading after reading. Maybe that's his particular talent, but it doesn't make for a very interesting book.

Perhaps his style is more interesting on his show, Crossing Over.. I'll have to watch it and see. I have watched The Long Island Medium and she seems quite similar to Edward especially in how she receives messages from the other side. Fans of that show may enjoy this.

My father and I followed the show Crossing Over, and for Christmas one year, I got my dad this book. I don't know if he read it or not, but it caught my eye one day, so I decided I would give it a try. I believe that every book comes to you with an important message that is (or soon will be) relevant to your life. It's the same with this book. I have been struggling with my own sense of grief, and there were passges in this book that have helped me to find a sense of peace. I feel that John Edward is the genuine article, and that he performs a much needed service in our society- to help those that are grieving reconnect with those they love. I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about mediumship and the ways in which our loved ones come through from the Other Side.

This is my second book I've read from John. I'm always amazed at his openness and candor. Here is a man who is evolving and allowing us a peek inside of his family, experiences and abilities. Ever since I was a child I have been fascinated by the psychic world and have always believed in the fact that you can communicate with those who have passed over and John has a way of bringing such excitiment to the subject that completely captivates the reader!

So, ok, little sappy time, but will help understand why I like this guy and this book. I read this shortly after my birth-mother passed, looking for some sort of understanding. I know it seems a bit hokey at times, but to someone like me that believes that alot of things exist that we just can't understand, it does help a bit.

I am and have been a John Edward follower for years. I never missed his Crossing Over or Cross Country With John Edward and am sorry that it is no longer on TV. I like him and what he is conveying to us. This book came at a time when I have been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I know my husband is a believer and can only hope it helps him when the time comes. Keep up the good work John.

i used to watch Crossing Over when it was on TV. with that background, i have an interest in hearing/understanding "more". the book delivers. very very thought provoking. inspirational. hopeful. JE reaches out to people with the intent to bring them more hope, more peace. he doesn't have an easy job, but he does it with patience, honesty, and committment.

An interersting look into what a medium does. If the book has a shortcoming its that what John Edward does is pretty difficult to put into words. Reading After Life had me convinced that Edward is the real deal though and not the fraud that some of his critics have labled him.

John Edward is an excellent medium and great writer. His books are full of compassionate stories of reuniting loved ones on both sides of the veil, and to me in particular, his books are a sort of therapy. Highly recommend his One Last Time too! Thank you John for all that you do. God Bless!

I enjoyed Crossing Over a lot, and this book is more of John's accounts of his readings. The added bonus is that John talked more about his personal life. I particularly appreciated that he described his difficult relationship with his father. And the ending of the book was perfect.

Needs real answers

I’m looking for more depth. This just recounts more readings but I want to know if anyone asks any questions about the reason we are here and what it’s like on the other side.
