Celebrate Recovery Participant's Guide #4

Growing in Christ While Helping Others Participant's Guide 4: A Recovery Program Based on Eight Principles from the Beatitudes

Rate this book
The Celebrate Recovery Participant's Guides are essential tools for the personal recovery journey. In the seven lessons in Guide 4: Growing in Christ While Helping Others, you will work through the final two principles on the road to recovery. More than just maintenance, these principles will help you prevent relapse and give you the necessary tools to help others in their recovery process.

7  Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination. Bible reading and prayer in order to know God and his will for my life and to gain the power to follow his will.

8  Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words. "Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires" (Matthew 5:10).

By working through the lessons and exercises found in each of the four Participant's Guides you will begin to experience the true peace and serenity you have been seeking, restore and develop stronger relationships with others and with God, and find freedom from life's hurts, hang-ups, and habits. All the scriptures have been updated to the new NIV 2011 version.

As mentioned previously, I started going through this recovery workbook series with a friend because my church is starting a Celebrate Recovery program. I am one of the leaders for the program and wanted to work through the books myself. While I initially started this thinking, "These are a great tool for me to go through now in order to help others later" (which was true) but about two work sessions later, I realized I needed it. This WAS now about me. I've shared before that I am a rape victim, so this is where I spent a lot of soul searching.

The thing I love about this series is the diversity behind the program. These workbooks do WORK for anything recovery related: addictions, sexual assault, grief...the list goes on. Couldn't recommend enough! I would recommend to everyone.

I would rate PG just because of the intensity of the work sessions and challenge behind them.

Book Four wraps up with the final principles: (7) Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will. (8) Yield myself to God to be used to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and my words. “Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires.” Matthew 5:10 TEV.

The tenth through twelfth steps of the twelve steps are also tackled: 10. We continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 1 Corinthians 10:12; 11. We sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us, and power to carry that out. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Colossians 3:16a NIV;
12. Having had a spiritual experience as the result of these steps, we try to carry this message to others and practice these principles in all our affairs. Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore them gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Galatians 6:1 NIV.

It has been 4 years since I went through the CR program. It was absolutely life changing! I have felt the need for a bit of a refresher course so I'm glad the workbooks are available through Amazon. I will say though that if you haven't been through the program, you need to find a local church that runs one. It's vitally important to go through with others. This is not a solitary journey. Also, CR isn't just for people dealing with substance abuse issues. It's for ANYONE dealing with hurts, hangups or habits - which is pretty much everyone!

Celebrate Recovery

Great end to a spiritual building series. Works best when studied in a small group. Brutal honest is necessary for growth.

The books are just okay. The time spent sharing answers and observations with the other ladies in my study was the amazing part.
