The Playbus was a real double-decker bus full of toys, arts and crafts, as well as a lot of fun to play on. She wrote a photographic social history book about the project which led to her story telling and her writing. All of Sue’s books do have a bus included in them somewhere.

Her grandson features in her book ‘Barty Barton; the bear that was loved too much’ which was published in 2020.
Two of Sue’s most recent books were written about her younger brother David and his imaginative play adventures. Perhaps Nanny and Alexander might have a few adventures of their own one day too.
Many of Sue’s books have been entered and shortlisted in ‘The Wishing Shelf Book Awards’, the book ‘A Spooky Tale’ was a silver medal winner in 2019. The story was written with her class in school.

5☆ A Super Fun Read!
Sue Wickstead has written yet another absolutely delightful children's picture book, that will get children giggling and using their imagination.
They might even want to jump in the bath tub... like David!
The illustrations are beautifully presented and really help the story come alive. Especially with all of David's escapades. (The rubber ring and flippers had me laughing out loud)
Children will definitely relate to David’s Bathtime Adventure. It might even help children with fear of water, as Wickstead shows children how much fun water play can be. Like finding sunken treasure, or diving, or splashing around, what will float or sink. There's so much to discover!
I'm a big fan of Wickstead's books and each one teaches children something new in a fun and engaging way.
I highly recommend reading David's Bathtime Adventure, a perfect storytime or bedtime read for younger readers aged 3-7years.
Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This is a story about a little boy called David, who we previously met during his ‘bin days’ adventure. This time we are joining him for his bath time adventure! The story reminded me of when I was little and would grab a load of toys to play with in the bath! Those were the days!
The story is quite funny in parts and reminds us adults how creative children can be. It is a great read for bedtime, the fact that David goes to sleep at the end of the story encourages children to also try and sleep when the story is over.
The illustrations are energetic and absolutely fantastic! This is one beautiful read.

A WISHING SHELF BOOK REVIEW

TITLE: David´s Bathtime Adventure
AUTHOR: Sue Wickstead
Star Rating: 4
‘A sweetly illustrated story of a boy having a wonderful adventure – in a bathtub!’ The Wishing Shelf
REVIEW
‘There´s adventure everywhere!’
This is the simple message presented in this cleverly written and superbly illustrated picture book. David, a young boy, is having a bath. But he´s determined to make it as exciting as possible. So, he grabs a rubber ring, a snorkel, a fishing net, flippers, and as many toys as he can carry! Let the fun begin...
This is a well-written story with simple vocabulary, a little speech, and lots happening on every page. And it´s helped along by wonderfully bright and colourful artwork which adds ´vibrancy´ to the story. I also loved how cleverly it was presented and how sensibly it has been put together. I liked how the illustrations work so well with the text to put across the message in a fun, interesting way. And I loved that the author wanted children to understand that even bathtime can be filled with adventure.
My only criticism is that the boy is not very good at listening to his mother. In fact, I´d go as far as to say he´s a bit of a brat. Over and over, she tells him not to wet everything, but he just grins and keeps on splashing. I liked the ´adventure´ message, but I didn´t like the ´ignore your mum message´. Personally, I think his mum should have insisted he sort out the mess; now that would be a good message!
To sum up, this is a fun, vibrant story, perfect for 5 – 7 year olds. They´ll love watching the boy play in the bath in his frog swimming cap. But I don´t think parents/grandparents will be particularly happy if the child then attempts to drench the bathroom too!

My family have been fans of Sue's books since we read the first jayjay book and this one is just as good.
It follows David, who we met in the last book about bin day, as he is getting ready for a bath.
As is usual with children getting ready he has to take lots of things in with him and keeps getting out of the bath to collect things, and has great fun splashing around.
Both my daughters loved it and thought it was great, and my wife liked it because the way David acted is exactlyike our two do in the bath, especially with getting more water on the floor than in the actual bath.
Yet another great book from Sue, which we highly recommend.

Not the first time we have met David who we last saw playing happily with his toy cars and buses, awaiting the bin lorry on a Wednesday morning in David's Bin Day. Today we meet him as his Mum calls him for a bath ... but this is David and this is no usual bath time - or is it?
Yet another fun, colourful book from an author whose books my little bookworms and I have come to enjoy.
The story of a little boy, David, who, determined to enjoy his bath, his imagination fired, grabs hold of any number of things; a snorkel, a rubber swim ring, the list goes on, in order to make it as much fun as possible.
Now whilst I applaud David's imagination and ingenuity, I did have a slight issue in that I found some of David's behaviour, namely his inability to listen and act on what his Mum was saying, a bit, well, let's just leave it as, not something that I'd wish to encourage in a child. Still, I suppose it makes for a good starting point for talking with the child/children about what they would do it that situation which, as a supply teacher herself, I'm sure the author would have thought of.
Perfect for older readers who are reading for themselves as well as younger ones who will no doubt enjoy having the story read to them. The story is well written with little vocabulary and, with something happening on every page, offers lots of opportunities to discuss what the child/children what they think might happen next, all of which is supported by bold, vibrant and yet true to life illustrations that support the text beautifully.
Looking forward to finding out what David's next adventure will be. I just hope that whatever it is his sister, Angela, puts in an appearance as she did in David's Bin Day, as my female little bookworm asked where she was and said she missed her not being in this book.

David is getting ready for a bath. Except that he has decided to have a swim rather than bath. He gets dressed in his swimming trunks, then puts a lot of toys in the bath. He is still not ready to get in, and gets a rubber ring and his flippers, all the time dripping water all over the house as he goes hunting for the things he needs. When finally he is in the bath David imagines he is diving for sunken treasure, splashing and squirming about in the water. David's Bathtime Adventure concludes with a bedtime story and a happy little boy dreaming of swimming in the sea, and finding real treasure beneath the waves.
My granddaughter absolutely loved this story. It is something she can relate to - the bubbles; the slippery soap; the bathtime imaginative play; the disappointment at having to get out; the warm towel that greets her when she finally gets out... As a parent, I can well remember supervising my children's bathtime adventures and sympathise with David's mother, knowing that she will have to clear up his watery mess before her day is done.
David's Bathtime Adventure made me smile in a 'Been there. Done That' kind of way. It is written in easily understandable language yet elegantly paints a picture of a child preparing for their playtime in the bath before bedtime.
Once again Ms Wickstead has produced an amusing children's story that engages and entertains young readers.

This is a really sweet and fun story about David. It's bathtime and his mum gets the bath ready for him, but David just wants to have an adventure, even if it means getting the floor a bit wet!
Full of colourful and bright illustrations I guarantee this is going to be a book children will love. It put a smile on my face whilst reading it.

David’s Bathtime Adventure by Sue Wickstead is an absolutely delightful book for the under fives. It is perfect to read aloud at bedtime.
David’s Bathtime Adventure is a book that fires the imagination – bathtime is not just a time for baths but a time to play and let your imagination run wild. Each time David enters the bathroom, he brings something else water-based to play with and to change where he is going in his mind.
The whole book is beautifully illustrated. Each page is packed full of water-based images. All these are perfect starting points for discussions with our children.
David is a lively young boy who is easy to empathise with. Our children will be able to recognize themselves in him.
David’s Bathtime Adventure is a perfectly charming and beautiful addition to any young child’s library.
I received a free copy from Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

Another fun read, sharing imaginative fun
With splashing, swimming and rescues to be done!
A beautifully illustrated story with children to share
Though bath time straight after? I don't think I'd dare!
Get ready to go on an adventure now
As David gets ready for his bath somehow!
He needs his toys, his net and more
As underwater he goes off to explore!
Floating, sinking and finding out
Are all experiences this adventure's about.
Where would you go underwater - and how?
Great things to imagine with your child now.
Another lovely read that's great to read
Inspirational and pleasurable, children's imaginations to feed.
For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.

I bought this adorable picture book as a gift for my grandson (age 2). David is a precocious little boy who has a wild and wonderful imagination that goes into full swing during bathtime. He has no shortage of water toys, and naturally, there’s splashing, bubbles, and boats. There are also goggles, flippers, and an inflatable tube float.
The story is cute as David plays with his toys and his mom repeatedly warns him about keeping the water in the tub. Eventually, bedtime rolls around, and she pulls the plug. The illustrations are delightful – full of sloshing water, bubbles, and imagination. Highly recommended.

This Children’s picture book is the second I have read in the David series. This book follows David as it is his bath time.
David finds his own way to make bath time fun and goes on his own adventure whilst his Mum keeps an eye.
This book is so cute, and it would help encourage kids that bath time can be fun with a little imagination.
The illustrations are lovely and bright, which helps when reading with children as I find it helps them to focus and discuss the book with you more.
Overall, a lovely and colourful Children’s picture book where David goes on an adventure at bath time.
My daughters thoughts: The artist was really good, I loved the pictures. The story was really good, and I could read it to Mummy.

David’s Bathtime Adventure’ – (by Nanny)
Alexander's review
A new book Nanny has written about her brother David.
Alexander has had some bathtime adventures in Nanny’s bath, especially after he has been doing painting with his hands, he certainly seems to get the paint everywhere especially all over his hands, Nanny doesn't mind this too much as he is usually a very clean boy and she feels a little bit of dirt doesn't hurt sometimes, just don't touch anything until we have cleaned it all off. Mummy and Daddy know Alexander needs old clothes when visiting Nanny in case the paint doesn't come off, Nanny does have big aprons to wear.
There are a few bath toys for Alexander to play with, including ducks, a yellow submarine and a Duplo diver man that Daddy took swimming when he was little.
Both of Nanny's David story books relate to adventures about her brother playing when he was little. Maybe she will write an adventure for Alexander?
