It's illegal for mythical beings and people to experience passionate feelings. However, laws can be broken.
When Ezekiel is discovered meandering the Elfands, he realises the punishment is death. Frantically, he lies about his character hoping the mythical beings will spare his life.
Jenilia has zero faith in the human, not simply because he communicates in the language of men. Men lie, but in Elvish, lying is impossible. In a snapshot of instinct, Jenilia chooses to allow Ezekiel an opportunity: learn Elvish, uncover his insights, and she will liberate him.
As Jenilia and Ezekiel journey together, they develop a strong friendship and feelings for each other. Ezekiel uncovers a deadly plan which leads to the destiny of the Elflands in his hands. Ezekiel has a decision to either put his life at risk to save the Elflands and the mythical people who despise humans or walk away and return home.

Mythical begins with the promise of action and suspense as we meet Ezekiel, who is caught in a bear trap in the Elflands, and Jenilia, an elf who doesn’t trust humans and is ready to kill this intruder. (Ezekiel instantly becomes somewhat unlikable when it’s established he’s hunting a mama bear who is still nursing.) Jenilia and her fellow northern elves spare Ezekiel’s life when he lies and says he has information that could help them in their war against the southern elves. From this point, a lot of time is spent enroute to other destinations, with little action or suspense. In some places, action scenes occur too quickly with insufficient imagery, such as killing a group of werewolves in two sentences. In other areas, there is an abundance of unnecessary narrative and backstory, which detracts from the story and sometimes makes it difficult to determine the characters’ purpose or destination. As expected, the main characters begin to feel an attraction for each other. This results in Jenilia again saving Ezekiel’s life, this time by engaging in the taboo action of killing another elf. The premise of the story is good, but the writing needs editing and rewrites in many areas. I feel this author needs some work with grammar and sentence structure, as well as creating imagery, building emotion, and developing suspense and conflict. That said, the storyline was creative and relationships between humans and mythical creatures are always intriguing.
Mythical is a fast-paced fantasy fiction book that will take you to the Elflands where there is dangers and evil motives hiding in plain sight waiting for just the right time to unleash the chaos.
It is forbidden for the mythical beings to foster passionate and desirous feelings towards any human. However one day it is discovered that Ezekiel was breaking this rule on the Elfands. He is a human. Upon such spiteful findings, to save himself from the wrath of the mythical beings, he conjures up lies about his character.
Right away Jenilia knew something was not right despite the man's claims and oddity but she also realises that no one can lie Elvish. Giving a chance, they commence their journey without anticipating friendship let alone having feelings for each other.
But there is a bigger evil motive that awaits them. Ezekiel was at a crossroads of either saving himself or the Elflands. What will be his ultimate decision?
Their adventure encompasses perils, action, fighting evil and restoring the lost sense of freedom while never initially realising the feelings of love and attraction are blooming in their hearts. Their romance was a slow burn and that's my favorite trope.
Kudos to the author for writing a story that will take you to their world. It is absolutely commendable to have such an extraordinary imagination which is not only unique but also creative and adventurous. It's like there are multiple routes to reach the destination and the author picks the one which has impressive twists and turns to appreciate and enjoy the journey and not just reach the stop.
The world building is a strong one as it navigates through fantastical places of vividly described locations. The places of conflicts and powers which truly expresses the rich and monumental fantasy experiences. The characters were definitely well- fleshed out and given ample time to explore and develop their relationship and realization. In conjunction with these, there was stellar narrative which was fast-paced with a brilliant central plotline.
If you are fantasy fiction enthusiasts then this is a perfect book for you.

As an avid reader I love finding stories that are different and those that provide an intriguing and exciting storyline - and Mythical didnt disappoint me in the slightest. Dark elves meet the force that will destroy them and humans live amongst them. Mythical is a thrilling and intriguing book where you can truly throw yourself into the book. One of my favourite aspects the world building the author has created with a variety of descriptive paragraphs that enable you to picture the places in your mind. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and this is an intriguing and captivating read. I do see a one star review and I’m confused as to the lines quoted which I personally cannot find in the book anywhere. I’m thinking perhaps there’s been an updated copy which is the one I have. Initially the review made me want to read the book rather than put me off it. A captivating, intriguing and exciting read for any fantasy romance lovers out there.
A very bold plot in the fantasy genre with multiple perspectives. Mythical by Laurie Bowler is a beautiful story of forbidden love. The plot revolves around Jenelia, a mythical character, and Ezekiel, a human being. Their tale of exploring each other and finding links to each other has been a major part of the story. The unwinding of the different characters in the story is done in a mind-blowing manner and does not create any confusion in the reader. The reader will be taken to a fantasy world with different regulations and a language of their own. I like how the author was able to create a historical drama set up in the middle by bringing courtroom-like scenes into the story. The development of characters in the story is also very well appreciable. The book is a must-read for people into fantasy and thriller.
This book is amazing.Ezekiel is very courageous and was also a true contender. He was also very skillfull. This book contains many vocabulary and was also very entertaining.I would recommend this book to everyone who likes action type books. It is also very entertaining.I read through the book till the end without realising.I won't spoil too much because the book is like a movie. The Mythical by Laurie Bowler is just incredible and she made it all by herself. I would definately give this book a ten out of ten.
??? I read a lot. I graduated from UC Davis with a BA in English. I read and understood Dune, A Tale of Two Cities, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series, and LOTR. There are things in this novel that don’t make sense! I though perhaps they were translation errors. Nope. “Lorena was popular, and it turned her delicate. Delicate for a mythical person implied cheerfulness, and nobody could blame her for being great. An excessive amount of time is spent around people, individuals said.” WHAT?! I won’t be reading anything else by this author.
