It's another busy day for Stanley and friends on the train!
All aboard and tickets ready, please. Stanley and Charlie oil and grease the gears and shovel coal in the firebox before the train heads off on an adventure. The passengers have a beach ball, a toy boat, and an inner tube. Where could Stanley's train be headed?
Accessible text and brightly colored illustrations helpfully convey public transportation for toddlers who love equipment, tools, and vehicles. After a hard day at work, Stanley winds down his day with a familiar supper and bath routine that makes this series a great pick for bedtime reading!
William Bee's beloved Stanley series is a trusted model for basic preschool concepts like colors and shapes, kindness and teamwork, jobs and daily routines. Toddlers will love hanging out with this adorable cast of friendly neighborhood critters in any of the available series titles. Help your little one collect them all!
William Bee was born in London but now lives in the English countryside. In addition to writing children’s books, he races a vintage sports car, is an international skier, and when at home tends his lawns and meadows.
This is a cute book that both grandchildren (ages 3 & 6) enjoyed. I was not aware of the Stanley series, but will look for more of them. This story has Stanley and his friends taking several others on a trip. Stanley has to get up early to get the train ready to go before loading up. The story shares the various jobs that need to be done on the train as well as showing a short visit to the beach and a trip home. The illustrations are large and colourful. There was a lot in them to talk about and help to identify the words in the text. The only thing my children didn't like were the sounds the train made. They prefer chug instead of chuff and toot instead of peep. They both like trains, so this made the story even more enjoyable. This would be a good story in a preschool or primary classroom when learning about community helpers, even if Stanley is a guinea pig, or transportation. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.
I hope you have met Stanley the clever guinea pig on one of his previous adventures, perhaps in Stanley's Garage or Stanley's Store. If you haven't, then take a look at this lovely story, a great introduction to a new iconic character in children's literature.
In this adventure, Stanley and his friends head off for a train ride. The little story is full of all the delights of a train---filling the train with coal, blowing the whistle, driving the train. The illustrations are big and bold and fill the page with action. Wonderful.
Hardworking Stanley with Charlie's help has a busy day keeping the train running. And there is plenty to do: oil and greasing the train, shoveling coal, collecting tickets, and more. The cozy illustrations and comforting tone will make this a favorite with young train lovers.
This one cracked me up because I love it and I love how wrong it is. It's a steam train but every gets to have a go at shoveling coal. The buffet car only seats two people and it's a carriage all of it own,so no one else can get on it. I love this.
Another adorable adventure with Stanley. Kids driving the train and staff swimming in the sea with their conductor hats on. I would love some refreshments, but how about you wash your face first, Charlie? The night illustrations are amazing too.
I'm guessing this is supposed to be for younger kids, but the story was just not very interesting. Even for a child, I think. I wanted to hear more about the train and less about the guests and what they did. I guess I just had too many high hopes for this book. Wasn't what I was looking for. #Netgalley
This story will delight little train enthusiasts I'm sure. Stanley, the train driver, is up early preparing for another busy day. He oils and greases all the moving parts and his cohort Charlie shovels coal into the firebox. Wherever could they be headed?
Their friends board the train carrying a beach ball, a toy boat, and an inner tube. Can you guess their destination?
You will love the clever little guinea pig who stars in other books in the series. The illustrations are bold, colourful and animate the text. After a busy day of activities the train heads back home.
"But it's over too soon, and everyone heads back to the train. Stanley and Charlie shovel the coal, pull the levers... and very quietly blow the whistle while everyone snoozes. Peep."
Then at last it's Stanely turn to pamper himself before it's time for him to go bed and get some well-deserved sleep. This is a lovely little book with a message about caring, friendships and of course ... TRAINS! Storywraps gives it hugs of approval!
Stanley is a Train Driver in the latest addition to the Stanley series coming out in August. We got a early sneak peek at this book from Peachtree and loved it. It has all of the bright colors and darling characters consistent with this series of little books but this one is full of train fun. The train takes Stanley and his friends on a little summer adventure and the story ends with Stanley's comforting goodnight routine. A great book for older toddlers and younger preschoolers - especially the ones as obsessed with trains as my twins were!
Stanley is back, this time on a train. The beloved hamster, known from board books with things that go, is the driver and conductor of a train. He is helped by his friend Charlie who shovels the coal and takes over from Stanley when he gets the tickets. The train carries Stanley’s friends who are going to a place with a beach ball, toy boat and an inner tube. Colorful illustrations with black outlines accompany this simple tale that will. E enjoyable for the very young. This edition is a picture book with a soft and puffy cover. Written Ad+ Pre-Kindergarten
So far, I like all of the Stanley books. This is my favorite, just because I’m a sucker for books about public transportation.
The books are simple but great. Instead of a plot or conflict, they simply depict a happy slice of life with occasional antics or wordplay. The illustrations, likewise, are simple and flat but very cute.
I like the repetition in the last few pages of each book. Stanley goes to a different job each day, but he has the same bedtime routine every night.
Cute story! I think little train enthusiasts will love hearing this book read and looking at he illustration! It looks like all the little critters are gerbils or hamsters, maybe mice! They all board the train to go to the seaside where they have load of fun. Illustrations aren't too busy, so littles will enjoy seeing what the little critters are doing on each page. I received a Kindle arc from Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.
This is my son's first introduction to Stanley. He loves trains and enjoyed reading about all the things you could do on a train. He even raised his hand when asked who wants to drive the train it was really cute.
As an educator, I did wish there were more about how you behave on a train but there are other books for that.
Fans of trains and Stanley will enjoy this book! It goes through a bit of the process to get the train ready to go, what items passengers take on the train to go to the seaside, the destination, the ride back home in the dark and then settling in at home. Thank you to Peachtree Publishing Company for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
Bright, colorful illustrations take Stanley and some friends on a train ride. While not an incredibly engaging story line, the pictures are nice and the text is straight forward. This is a decent pick for a preschool story time and a great pick for a toddler story time.

A cute book. Bright colorful illustrations. A very simple story. I think this would be great as a board book as I think it is far too simple for older children.
This bright and cheerful book delighted my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter, and her 5 year old sister was happy to snuggle in while we were reading it. Stanley and Charley take a load of people to the beach for the day. The riders have as much fun on the train as they do at the beach.
