“Luna and Fortuna: Fortuna finds a Family” is a well written children’s chapter book by Katy Sloop Roberts and illustrated by Dan Dye. This book is told by the black kitten, Fortuna. I enjoyed that this story’s setting takes place in Italy. I enjoyed how the author, Katy Sloop Roberts used Italian at word to short phrases as the kitten goes on a journey to find the perfect family. This book makes a great read aloud since there are so many positive messages about friendship. I highly recommend “Luna and Fortuna: Fortuna finds a Family “.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hey everyone! I just read the coolest book ever called "Luna and Fortuna: Fortuna Finds a Family" by Katy Sloop Roberts. It's all about Fortuna, this super adventurous kitten, and her quest for a family. Let me tell you all about it!

So, Fortuna is a little kitten who dreams big. She wants her own adventures and a family to call her own. When she finally gets a chance to leave her mom and go find that perfect family, things get crazy! Fortuna is determined, though – she won't let anything unravel her plans.

The book is like a rollercoaster of emotions as Fortuna goes through ups and downs, trying to find that perfect family. It's like looking for the perfect piece of yarn – not always easy! But here's the big lesson: never give up hope. Fortuna teaches us that if you keep trying and don't give up, you can make your dreams come true. It's like, if you want something done, do it yourself – even for witches and wizards casting spells!

One hilarious part is when Fortuna sticks her paw into a fountain, and the bells start playing, and she jumps super high! Reminds me of when my brother scared me once – talk about jumping high! Fortuna's personality is awesome – curious, confident, and super hopeful. Even when she gets scared, she keeps going, doing her kitten stuff – sleep, eat, bathroom break, repeat!

This book is a big thumbs-up from me. It's funny, exciting, and teaches us that with a little hope and a lot of determination, you can find your perfect family. So, if you like kittens, adventures, and life lessons, read "Luna and Fortuna: Fortuna Finds a Family" – it's purr-fect!

Check out my full review of this book on my YouTube channel. It's got everything you need to know about this amazing read.

Review from my daughter Paige (12):
Her summary: Fortuna is a curious kitten but anxious to discover the rest of the world. When she was old enough, she set out farther than she had ever been before. But no one wants her because of her black fur (In Europe, black cats are familiar companions of witches. So they bring misfortune if they cross your path). Fortuna intends to find the perfect family to love her. Will she find her forever home? Read to find out!
Her thoughts: I've already read the same author's book Mario and the Stones. It was so good that I was as curious as Fortuna to read this prequel. It turned out to be more adventurous than Mario and the Stones. This book gave more descriptions of life in Italy. The book is well-written, and you can learn some Italian words. The cat's perspective parts were my favorite part of the book. I loved looking at the pictures at the end of the book.
I highly recommend this book for kids who love cats.

"'You are as black as a moonless night sky la mia bella ragazza, my beautiful girl,' Mother Cat meowed to me, the first of her three kittens born that September morning under the city butcher shop."

And although Mother Cat loves her gattina nera (black kitten), eventually they must part ways and Fortuna must find the perfect family of her own. Her search takes her on many adventures; some hard, some confusing, and some delightful. But her biggest surprise comes when she finds love with an unlikely human, an old lady full of magic.

Fortuna and Luna will capture your heart (again if you read Mario & the Stones) and take you on a trip to scenic Italy. The strong themes of family ties and God's plan give the reader much to think about. The discussion questions offered in the back of the book are fun and thought-provoking.

This would make a great read-aloud to share with any special child in your life.

"Fortuna Finds a Family" is an endearing children's book that I highly recommend. Following the adventures of the sweet, persevering Fortuna, this book not only engages readers in a heartwarming story but also educates about Italian culture and language. The author’s descriptive writing immerses us directly into Italy, capturing the essence of the place and the charming character of Fortuna.

The author brilliantly addresses how superstitions can unfairly judge a creature, with Fortuna's black fur causing her to be overlooked. This plot element encourages children to think beyond appearances, fostering acceptance and understanding. The narrative thread where Fortuna's concept of family evolves adds depth, conveying the message that family is not always as we imagine but rather those who love and accept us.

It’s noteworthy that the book also captivates young readers with its lovely illustrations, short chapters, and occasional perspective shift to Fortuna. As observed in some reviews, children enjoyed the interactive element of learning new Italian words and were inspired to create art based on the story. The author’s prior book, "Mario and the Stones," is also recommended, indicating a strong continuity and growth in the series.

"Fortuna Finds a Family" is a valuable addition to any child's bookshelf, proving a hit among those who love animals, adventure, and learning about different cultures. The book seems to hold an undeniable charm that makes it an excellent gift for young readers, a testament to the author's skillful storytelling and the delightful journey of Fortuna.
