PERFECTION NOT REQUIRED Many of us believe that we aren’t good enough to meet other people’s expectations. Maybe you can’t wrap words around why, but lurking beneath the surface of the carefully curated façade you present in public, it’s there. Being missed and marginalized by others moves us to assume we’re not quite good enough for God either. The great news woven throughout the Gospel according to Luke is that perfection is not a prerequisite for a deep and personal relationship with Jesus. In fact, this riveting account reveals that Jesus is especially fond of ragamuffins in need of a safe place to lean in and linger! Lisa Harper is a hilarious storyteller and theological scholar―a gifted communicator whose writing and speaking overflows with colorful, pop-culture references that connect the dots between the Bible era and modern life. “Her God-given ability to not merely teach the Word but package it in a way that stirs the heart and calls to action is incomparable” says Priscilla Shirer. For six years Lisa served as the director of Focus on the Family's national women's ministry where she created the popular Renewing the Heart conferences. The next six years found her serving on the local level as the women's ministry director at a large church in Nashville. As the author of eleven books, and a Masters of Theological Studies with honors from Covenant Seminary, she is now a sought-after Bible teacher and speaker. Lisa was on the Women of Faith national arena tour and speaks at many other large events as well as at hundreds of churches all over the world. Lisa describes her greatest accomplishment to date as getting to be Missy’s mama.
This was my first time doing a Lisa Harper Bible Study and one that had videos. I’m not usually a good video watcher as my ADHD gets too distracted. But the videos were brilliantly done. The study here was great for someone’s first study or someone who has done a bunch of Bible studies. It’s written brilliantly and fits perfectly into our time and place in America today. Jesus didn’t come for the rich he came for the poor.
This was an amazing and insightful study that had you read all of Luke. Lisa Harper has such a great way of teaching and reaching out to others through her realness. Remember to show gut-level compassion to the outliers and outcasts like Jesus did and still does.
Information was good. I just really struggled to stay focused and get through this study. The style in which this Bible study is written is just not my favorite or what I prefer.
