“My hands ache from gripping the shovel handle, but I take a deep breath and scoop one more bit of dirt onto the soft mound before letting the tool drop from my hands. Carefully, I step onto the soft mound and stamp it down, moving slowly.”

What a great opener!

Eve Overstreet has been living her best life for the past ten years while her twin, Millie Grant, has been serving time at the Lynchburg Correctional Facility for murder. Unaware that Millie has been released, Eve is shocked when her twin knocks on the door one day wanting her old life back.

Initially, Millie simply intended to inform her twin that she’d forgiven her. However, when she sees the luxury and carefree life Eve appears to be enjoying, Millie is determined not only to get her own life back but to live her sister’s life.

What Millie doesn’t understand is that life at 137 Chadwick Heights isn’t all it appears to be.

Shiner explores the ‘grass isn’t always greener’ phenomenon alongside manipulation, deception, and coercion. Which twin will come out on the right side of the law: the one dating a cop or the one pretending to date a cop?

This quick read will have you pushing aside unlikeable characters and scratching your head as you try to figure out what game these twins are playing and if one or the other or both will get caught! Something shady is definitely happening…

This was the Emily Shiner’s Book Club choice for November’s book and I’m looking forward to discussing it with others.

Millie and Eve are twins. Millie had just been released from a long stint in prison after a miracle appeal by a team of lawyers found her not guilty. Now, she wants revenge against her sister who put her there--framing her for her husband's murder.

Despite a good premise and set up, this wasn't very gripping. It was slow and then morphed into unbelievable. The characters were all the kind of dastardly folks you love to hate. Was a bit disappointed with this in the end.

When the first line is ‘my hands ache from gripping the shovel handle’ you know you’re in for an incredible ride.

Her Perfect Life follows Millie, fresh out of prison wanting the perfect life for herself. Her Twin sisters life. But no sooner as she has that, she realises the grass is not always greener and is forced into things she really doesn’t want to do whilst planning a way to get out of it. The book is more character based than plot based but with a set of characters like these, it is the perfect read for fans of crime/thrillers.

Millie – I liked Millie, as the main character she was nice, but had an alternate side to her personality that even she didn’t like.

Eve – The twin sister, even with the short time of getting to know her, I didn’t like her from the offset. I couldn’t tell she was a high maintenance bitchy type.

Gareth – the bully. He was mean, or at least thought he was. He is the type of guy who wants everyone to be scared of him. He wants the power, but in reality he scares no one.

Mya – Then there is Mya. Gareth’s partner in life and crime and my favourite character in the book. Cocky, bossy and very sneaky. She had a persona about her that oozed power and she was definitely the star of the books for me.

These characters was an incredible mix together, all working together but with Millie or Eve always wanting out. Neither of them wanted this life, it it’s what they had been dealt. The characters were incredible well written, relatable and 100% authentic and realistic.

They say with every set of twins one is always evil, but in this book how do you choose?

Her Perfect Life by Emily Shiner is so twisty! I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to read more from this author.

The story is about identical twins, Millie and Eve. Eve frames Millie for the murder of her own husband—a crime Millie didn’t commit. After Millie gets out, she goes straight to confront her sister. But does she really want Eve’s life? And is it even as glamorous as it seems?

Terrible Ending.

The book started out very well but turned into a disaster at the end. The ending was a complete disaster.

Wow this book was stupid...

I mean, the blurb already gives half of the story. We know Milie is out of jail and about to kill her twin Eve to take her ''perfect life''
The first 40% ish is just us reading about Milie, Eve and two other vilains and waiting for Milie to strike.
Then she realizes how horrible her sister's life really is, far from perfect!
Again the blurb gives us an idea of the nightmare Eve was living...

None of those characters were likable: Eve, Millie, Mya and Gareth (the vilains owning Eve/Millie) or Alex (this one was the worst!)

But the ending/epilogue didn't make any sense at all... I would have preferred to see all of them dying, not that ridiculous ending 😂😂😂

Strong start, love the short snappy succinct chapters and the fast pacing - very Freida McFadden like. It is tense and exciting - but then the cracks start to show with the plot, with more than a couple plot holes scattered amongst, not least the main character missing a major opportunity to get her enemies (not fatally!) taken care of. It is quite a far fetched plot, there are a lot of dropping like flies moments with not enough preamble or build up, and the ending is extremely disappointing, leaving you irritated and almost regretting reading the book at all. Not the best I'm afraid.

What an absolutely thrilling and gripping read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

This will probably be the worst book I read in 2023. It is so shallow and ridiculous. The author must have had checklist of things they wanted to include and rushed through the list as quickly as possibe There is no character development. Gangsters, bent cops, ridiculous murders with knives but easily cleaned up after, slight women moving dead bodies Oh I could go on Do yourself a favour DON'T READ IT

Interesting concept but with a lot of holes and disappointed with the ending.

Eve and Millie are twins, and Eve framed Millie for her husband's murder. When Millie is released from prison, she comes for Eve's life. However, getting Eve's life is not all she thought it would be.

I was intrigued through most of the book, but in the end, it seemed pretty unbelievable, and wrapped up too quick.

Her Perfect Life
By Emily Shiner (via #netgalley)

This one definitely wasn't for me. There was plenty of suspense and certainly had plot twists, but I hated every single character. With passion. While I like a vivid story that evokes a lot of emotion, I struggled with such an unrealistic plot. The ending left me a bit sour also. The writing itself wasn't terrible - I did enjoy the author's writing style...the story itself, not so much.

Millie was just released from prison for a murder that she didn't commit. Her twin sister Eve framed her for murdering Eve's husband. Now that Millie's out, she's hoping to reconcile with her sister, but when she drops by Eve's house, Eve slams the door in her face. Eve has the life that Millie wants - a big house, money, and a seemingly perfect life, so Millie decides to kill Eve and take over Eve's life. But she quickly realizes that Eve's life was certainly no where near as perfect as she thought...

Millie and Eve are twin sisters. On one hand, Millie has just been released from prison after her charges are dropped for killing Eve's husband Joe while on the other hand there is Millie who has a seemingly perfect life after framing Millie for the crime. Jealous of everything Eve has, Millie decides to get rid of her sister and take her place. But is this really A Perfect Life Millie has just snatched for herself?

I had quite high hopes for this one ngl but it was disappointing in every sense. Apart from the story being predictable, all the characters were flat, devoid of any personality at all and the way in which these crimes were committed and everyone kept getting away with everything was plain stupid. The author did not even try to make it seem believable. It was a lazy attempt at writing a page turner psychological thriller imo.

2 stars only for the last few pages of the book, it was a good attempt at a twisty ending.

I didn’t like this book very much but I did enjoy reading it.

My sympathies were all with poor, wronged Millie, recently released from jail for a crime she didn’t commit, until she turned out to be just as dark and unpleasant as everyone else. The other main characters are Millie’s twin sister Eve ( the real murderer), Gareth and Meya. I dont think there is a single likeable character which is a shame because there is no one to root for.
Millie murders her sister, to live her perfect life, which she feels she is owed only to realise that she has jumped from the frying pan into the fire. By taking over Eve’s life she introduces Gareth and Meya into hers and these are definitely two people you do not want to meet. The moral of this tale is definitely be careful what you wish for. Never in a million years did I see this ending coming.

Thanks to netgalley and Inkubator for the arc ebook.
The premise sounded promising, but overall it fell rather flat. It felt a little rushed, none of the characters were fleshed out enough so just came across as totally unlikeable. It's a quick read if that's what you're after, but not particularly thrilling.

I thought this book was dull and at times bordering on the ridiculous. Dull characters with no depth. Not entirely sure why Eve would even get mixed up with them. The twist at the end doesn't save it. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy

This book was so good! It was intense and full of secrets and twists! Definitely easy to devour!

Millie spent the last 10 years in prison for murdering her brother in law - and murder which she was framed for, by her twin sister Eve. With the conviction overturned, Millie hopes she and Eve can start fresh. But when Millie shows up at Eve's door, Eve is ruthless, and Millie starts planning her revenge. Why should Eve get this perfect, privileged life when she was thebone behind the murder of her husband? Millie wants what Eve has, and will do the unthinkable to get it. But Eve's life isn't all it seems to be, and Millie may have gotten herself into a very bad situation.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review. My opinions are my own.

Now, let's get this (non) party started.

The book description is appealing enough - we have a set of twins, one who just served a prison sentence after being set up by the other, and wants to forgive her sister for it, though. But things don't go as planned, because her sister is EVIL, so, naturally, she has to kill her and take over her life. Well... Okay?

This we learn from the description and it covers about 30% of the book. But nothing actually exciting happens in the entire book and its god-awful characters. Damn, everyone here is either intentionally built to passionately hate them, or... well.

Millie is absolutely god damn awful, the fact that her first thought is just to kill her sister and live "her perfect life" is just psychotic, but I thought I could get on board with that. It's horrible.

Then, Eve is just... a character with so little substance that's barely worth mentioning.

Next, we have Garrett and Mya who are drug dealers. At this point, I am wondering: did the author ever read a book, watch a movie, or document herself on drug dealers? Because these two are the most ridiculous, stupid drug dealers I've ever seen. They allegedly blackmailed Eve into working with them, but they spend EVERY WAKING SECOND asking Eve if she's still on board. EVERY SINGLE WAKING SECOND.

The entire book happens in the span of a week or two and since Millie takes over Eve's life, both Garrett and Mya visit her TWICE A DAY to make sure she's not running away. What? So, that was basically Eve's life for years? Have someone continuously check on you if you're running? It's so stupid I have no words.

Then, the dialogue it's just really poor. "You don't seem like yourself, Eve," said all the freaking characters constantly. We get it. She doesn't.

Don't even get me started on ALL THE CHARACTERS TALKING OUT LOUD TO THEMSELVES. What is that? It was a first point-of-view narration, shifting from one character to another. Why did they constantly have to voice their opinions out loud?

It was just... a wreck. The alleged "stunning psychological thriller" with its many twists and turns was just an insult to the genre, because, at every turn, I just rolled my eyes and said, "is that it?"

In the book “her perfect life“ We meet Millie she has just gotten out of prison after being freed with her innocence for killing her brother-in-law prooven. The first thing she wants to do is go and tell her twin sister Eve she is forgiven for setting Millie up to go to prison. Eve was really the one who got her husband killed and so this nasty attitude Millie is greeted with gets on her last nerve and gives her a Plan B and that is to take over Eve’s perfect life. After monitoring Eve movement around town she decides to get into Eve’s Home to see what she confined, but while in there, There’s a knock on the door and when she answers it she knows she must move up her sister‘s murder to even sooner.

Finally Eve is gone she’s taking a shower in a lavish bathroom drying off with a fluffy white tile and after putting on her PJs she just wants to relax and enjoy her new life. This is when she gets another knock on the door and her new hell begins. OK first things first no one in this book is a good person. They have Garrett and Maya who are drug dealers who blackmail Eve into working with them and these are the two most ridiculous people. Every time they meet up with Eve/Milly They remind her what will happen if she should decide she no longer wants to do this. She can’t leave her house except on Wednesday nights because she must be there to let these two buffoons into a home that they have keys too. Maya in my opinion is the most ridiculous she even tries to bully Eve/Millie into telling her what she’s thinking! No let me just say there is much more to this book and they have twists on top of the twist even though no one in the book is nice I will be honest and say I could not put the book down. It was so so good! By the time I figured out the ending it was maybe the chapter before… Maybe. Either way if you love thrillers then you’ll love this book there’s not much lag time end a lot of drama. I received this book from NETGALLY and I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any errors as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are definitely my own.

Millie was thirsty for revenge. After being framed by her twin sister Eve for the murder of Eve's husband (a murder she didn't commit), Millie was out for blood. Upon her release from jail, Millie saw that Eve has the perfect life, a beautiful home, friends and spa days. Millie. feeling robbed of having a life by being wrongfully accused and serving a jail sentence, wants Eve's perfect life. Except, everything that glitters is not gold and Millie is getting more than she bargains for when she tries to infiltrate' Eve's life.

This book was such a page turner. I enjoyed it very much and was eager to see how it ended.. The ending however was such a surprise that I think that this has to be one of the best endings I have read in a long time as I did not expect that at all. I do not want to go into too much details about the book because I do not want to spoil it.. I must say though that Emily Shiner did a great job in creating Gareth and Mya. These two were really sinister and evil. I really enjoyed reading them. While reading about Millie I was really curious to see how she ended up. Readers you would not expect it at all.

In all this was a great thriller / crime novel and I would highly recommend this title.

I have mixed feelings about this book. It was very fast paced and a quick, easy read. I did enjoy reading it as an escape from reading other books with heavier topics. As psychological thrillers go, I wouldn’t say this is the best one I’ve ever read. I found it to be very superficial. There was a lot of different plot lines that could have came together very nicely but the author never explained nor made connections. I felt like I was only given very basic information and never got the “deep dive” into how the characters ended up in the position they were in now. The entire plot wasn’t very realistic. However, if you’re willing to suspend your belief for the sake of a short, quick read, it’s still very enjoyable.

If you like reading books without giving much thought to plot holes or missing details, this would be a great book to pick up. If you’re a more experienced psychological thriller reader, pass on this one.

Eve and Millie are twins and when Millie is released from prison, for a crime she didn’t commit, hastens over to Eve’s house. She doesn’t get the welcome she thought she deserved so plotted her revenge. This is no thriller, not when the whole plot is revealed in the blurb. To my mind it should be placed in either the fantasy or humour category as it was hilarious! There was nothing at all realistic about any of it, or the gruesome characters. Not even a satisfying ending as it seemed hurried as if even the author was fed up with the shenanigans. All in all, it was entertaining but not for the right reasons! I was given this ARC by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Bland Characters Interesting Plot

Reading the description of this book was exciting. The execution was quite boring for me. Bland characters with no fire or deep personality traits. It felt like the watered down version of.the summary.

Some of these ideas are good. The delivery leaves much too be desired. It's like some of these authors should give their book ideas to a writer who can bring forth more excitement. Give readers a better delivery.

It wasn't horrible just not that good. 2.5 stars if I. Being generous. Which I definitely am!

Her perfect life by Emily Shiner.
Eve and Millie are sisters. Millie went to prison for what Eve did. So when she gets out she wants Eves  life. But Eve didn't have the perfect life.
A brilliant read.  I love Millies character. Didn't like Gareth or myra. Twisty and tense.  5*.

So you're a twin and you have been very close to your sister growing up. But, something changes along the way and after she marries you grow apart. But then you get a phone call that Eve calls, she needs you and please come by the house. Millie is thrilled that Eve is reaching out so you rush over to the house only to find no one home. Next thing you know you are being blamed for her husbands death and are sentenced to years in prison. You do your time hoping that someone will understand that you had nothing to do with the murder and get you out. Since they are not doing it you learn all there is to know about the law and trials etc. and contact a group for people who have been wrongly accused. They help you show that you are not guilty and the sentence is overturned and you are free. You have worked hard to forgive your sister but when you go to see her to tell her that you forgive her she is the same rude, obnoxious, evil person you remember and deep down you know she was responsible for her husbands death.
Because she is so callous you feel like you deserve something for doing time that you know she should have been doing. Your anger grows as you realize all this time she has been living the good life and it should be yours. Millie feels that Eve owes her this.
This story is fantastic about two sisters and what they do to each other. Emily goes above and beyond to have us feel what each sister is thinking and plotting against the other. You must read what happens between the sister and how their lives are upended and change. Can they become close again or is there just too much history they can't overcome?
BUT, remember that the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. Maybe what Eve has isn't as great as Millie thinks and could Eve drag her into her problems?
Know that once you start reading you probably will not want to put the book down to the end so let everyone know "DO NOT BOTHER ME FOR THE NEXT FEW HOURS".
