A Limited Run

Two million dollars each? It seems too good to be true.

Meri Wetzel's acting role on the TV show A Little Slice of Haven is an experience she'd love to forget. But when billionaire Felix Worthington invites the five cast members to recreate their roles twenty-five years later, she's intrigued. It's an unusual request, even for a self-professed superfan like Felix.

Living in a recreated version of the 1940s town in a warehouse in Montana has its appeal, even knowing she'll be filmed with hidden cameras as the cast improvises with other actors playing the townspeople. And the clincher? The promised two million dollars, on the condition they all stay ten days and remain in character the entire time.

One by one, they set their hesitations aside and agree to the terms. But as Meri and her costars slot into their roles, they begin to realize things are not as they seem.

Can I give a book five stars just because I had fun writing it? Hopefully, yes. I wish that those who read the story enjoy it as much as I did creating it.

This was certainly an interesting concept. Getting the cast of a television show “A Little Slice of Haven” back together after twenty years to play their characters for ten days. It felt like going behind the scenes on "Father Knows Best" or "Leave It to Beaver". If this could really be pulled off, you would learn what the actors are really like. How they'd get along in real life? What "drama" might go on between them off stage. The author gave us a glimpse of the answers to these questions by setting up each character in “real life”, then showing the reader the television version of each one. There were some "conditions" that each one had to agree to in order to collect the two-million dollars each was told they would receive for doing this. They had to stay in character every minute of the day and night, and they had to live in the recreated town of Haven for the ten days. They are each given limited directions each day but have no idea what their castmates have been told to do. It is a really great story that starts on a slow burn and ramps up the heat. The reader will find that they must keep reading or listening to see what would happen to these characters both in “real life” and in the fictional town of Haven, that is coming more "real" by every turn of the page. You will HAVE to stay to the very end to learn WHY billionaire Felix Worthington set this up...but it is SO worth it.

Wow. This is unlike any book I've read before. As I read it, it held my interest and I kept wondering where it would lead. I also thought that the author must be a bit crazy (who thinks up this kind of stuff?) but by the end, I thought she was a creative genius.

The story is about bringing a cast of an old TV show back together for a 10 day reunion, with a twist.
I won't go into the story more than that. Read the book, you'll like it. I will say that I didn't want to put it down, I wanted to see where it would lead and how it would end. I was not disappointed and I'm pretty sure you won't be either.

A did receive a free ARC (advanced review copy) from the author. But I was under no pressure to read or review. That was my decision and my review is my honest impression of the book.

I was fortunate enough to read an early copy of A Limited Run and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This book has it all ~ a beloved TV show, all the previous history of the cast members, and the unknown as they decide whether or not to sign on for A Limited Run.

I was kept wondering what was going to happen right up until the end. I enjoyed meeting the characters, getting to see how they related to each other, how they'd changed and moved on in life after the TV show was over.

I honestly wanted to read more after this book was over! I wasn't ready to let these characters return to their lives without me.

Thank you to the author for an early copy at my request. All thoughts, as always, are my own.

I loved this book. See those 5 stars? I am cheap with giving those out, but A Limited Run was entertaining, filled with characters of interest and literally had me attached to my earbuds for hours on end. When it was over I was sad. That's a 5 star book to me.

I cannot comment with too much because it would spoil your journey but I can say it was reminiscent of the new book, One's Company, felt a little like The Truman Show, and reminded me of one of my favorite Christopher Guest film's, For Your Consideration.

I am now a Karen McQuestion fan and will be checking out the rest of her books.

And, since the audio was so well done, and I believe made it all feel more real, listen to this one vs reading it.

4.5 STARS | This book was CRAZY! Had me hooked from page 1! Thank you to Karen McQuestion for the book (Paperback is now OUT, Ebook will be released August 31!), I very much enjoyed it! If you love a ‘creepy way to have revenge’ book, this is it! Billionaire Felix Worthington invites the five cast members of the TV show A LITTLE SLICE OF HEAVEN to recreate their roles again, twenty five years later. But they find it sketchy. It’s a unusual request. For several of them, playing a member of the Barlow family in the small town of Haven was an experience best forgotten. But living in a recreated version of the town in a warehouse in Montana has its appeal, even though there’s hidden cameras as they improvise with other actors. And the clincher? Two million dollars rewarded for each of them, provided they stay there for ten day and remain in character the entire time. After all, what could possibly go wrong?! A addictive, and fast paced novel that will have you laugh, cry, and maybe be surprised! A great book!

These days books get stars from me just for being short enough not to be a total waste of time. This book was weird. Part Truman Show part revenge fantasy, and not at all well laid out. The big twist (actually, both of them) were obvious early. A wronged child becomes so rich that he can fully recreate a town and employ a community AND pay the principals as much as 2 million dollars each. Because he made money on bitcoin? Hopefully he sold out of it in time. He's spent his whole life figuring out how to get back at the people he thinks are responsible for his misery and ultimately just puts them through a couple awkward situations?  There's no death or violence (which is fine) but not sure how he was hoping to get any catharsis out of his plan. Wouldn't a better and cheaper solution have been just to talk to them? He finally just kind of gets over it -- after 25 years -- forgiving a couple of his targets and getting no real remorse out of the others. And he "puts the past behind him" -- by starting a rocket company named after the fictional town that supposedly caused him so much trauma. No relatable characters, no grand message and no great plot.  Maybe I'll take away one star, because it was in fact a waste of time.

It's been twenty-five years since the TV show, "A Slice of Haven", has been off the air when all of the cast members from the show are approached with a huge opportunity. The billionaire, Felix Worthington, has made an offer for the actors to recreate the show and be filmed for 10 days, but with no lines so that they have to improvise. If they can do this, they will be rewarded with 2 million dollars each! All 5 cast members must participate or the deal is off. What can go wrong? And what is the catch?

The idea of this book grabbed me. I was excited to see where this was headed. It was a bit different than I had originally expected, and this was a great surprise. I felt this was not exactly a thriller, but more of a twisty drama. Many thanks to Karen McQuestion for my ARC, I am looking forward to reading more of your books in the future!

Karen McQuestion, the author of “A Limited Run” has written a unique and intriguing novel. The genres for the novel are Psychological Fiction, Psychological Thriller, Cozy Mystery, and Mystery and Suspense. The story is set in the present and goes back twenty-five years. The author vividly describes the colorful and dramatic characters as complex, complicated, and quirky. The five characters worked together in a TV show called “A Little Slice of Haven”, which took place in a town called Haven. A billionaire, Felix Worthington seems to be obsessed with getting all 5 characters together again in the present in “Haven”, on property that he purchased. Each character is offered two million dollars for ten days to play in character and follow certain rules.

A few of the characters are hesitant to go back to play the characters in the past. All of the characters do return. Each day the cast in the “family” gets individual instructions on where to go. The original Grandma from the family and her dog are automated “copies” that seem very realistic and are on the porch. There are hidden cameras all over, and the town is more realistic than twenty-five years ago.

Most of the characters look at this as an opportunity to get Two Million Dollars for ten days of work. Can anything go wrong? No one has really questioned the rationale or reason for doing this. There is no written script, other than where the characters should go. Another cast member, who isn’t one of the original five, sneaks a warning note to one of the characters. There is a feeling of foreboding and impending danger. Some of the characters find themselves in disturbing and uncomfortable situations.

I found certain parts suspenseful, and there were twists and turns. I would highly recommend this entertaining novel to others.

Karen McQuestion is a new-to-me author, that being stated, A LIMITED RUN is my first read by Ms. McQuestion. I have to say, I truly enjoyed the story line. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did and of course once I read the whole thing I was absolutely loving every word.
This story made me feel as though I could have been a Felix Worthington. I was not a popular kid in school and have vision problems and dyslexia. Many people just plain ignored me, but I wanted everyone to like me. And this was a fantastic way of letting ones 'friends' know how they messed up that opportunity.
Ms. McQuestion, I had no idea where this story would go but I am so so happy that I did not give up and found that wonderful ending!!! I am now a committed fan of your work! Thank you

This book was not altogether bad. It is a unique idea and the setting was well described to immerse you in the book. However, it felt kind of anticlimactic and underwhelming. If it was hard to be believable in the beginning, the ending felt almost more unbelievable because it seemed to be an intricately woven path to an anticlimactic end.

"A Little Slice of Haven is a thing." What kind of thing can it be after the end of the very popular tv series from 25 years earlier? It's almost a cultish following after all that time. And the mystery offer by a wealthy billionaire that brings the cast back together keeps getting more and more intriguing when they are presented with an "offer they can't refuse". Who's in and who's not? Karen McQuestion drops the reader into a "proposal" that's like a cliff hanger that I just had to know what happens.

From the first page this story pulled on my reading mind and I had to walk into the recreated set to find out just what these five very different characters from a wholesome family show would face in this interesting concept for two million dollars. This book is filled with suspense, mystery, intrique and family drama with people who are a fictional family. Mix all that with a behind the scenes billionaire Felix Worthington and the "stage" is set for a wild ride into an unpredictable tale that Ms. McQuestion is so skilled at taking her readers on. "Haven is already equipped with cleverly hidden cameras. You should assume they'll be recording everything you say and do. Think of it as a reality TV or social experiment." What could possibly go wrong with this scenario? Ms. McQuestion kept me turning the pages to see what was coming next.

The plot in this book was paced perfectly and created palm sweating apprehension at times in scenes that seemed unscripted. The characters were developed well and I got a feel for who they were from her descriptive characterizations. Some of them were people I liked and then others not so much...which makes for a great cast. The answer to the question of why they were all brought together was always just out of reach. This perfect little tv family just might not be what it seems on the surface and the shocking revelation at the end of the book wasn't what I expected. OH! And I LOVED the name drops througout the book! What fun that was!!!

For a great Karen McQuestion read, I recommend "running" into the pages of this book and stepping into the fictional town of Haven. It will keep you up wanting to know "what's the catch" because it can't be that easy to make two million dollars.

Karen McQuestion is an author I have read many times and I have enjoyed her books very much. I want to thank her for the honor of reading this fantastic book. All opinions and thoughts are my heartfelt own.

An interesting plot in this time of YouTube and reality TV where an old sitcom is recreated by a wealthy self made man. With the promise of 2 million dollars each the actors must stay in their 1940s characters for 10 days. The slightest infraction will break the contact and they get nothing. Cut off from the outside world, and unexpected calamities occurring leave them wondering what they signed up for. But it's only 10 days, so why not ride it out.
I had the ending figured out fairly early so wasn't surprised by the ending therefore the 3 stars.

Lucky enough to be part of this author's review team and read it before it is published. This was a totally different kind of book for her and I loved it. Really cool and present. Very interesting story line and characters. Think about your favorite TV show as a kid then finding out all the "dirty laundry" of the show and how the characters really got along. Is it all sugar and spice, or will there be revenge ?? This is one very entertaining book !

What a great concept! Absolutely loved reading A Limited Run. Who ever gets a do over in life and learns how they are perceived by others and how their actions affect other peoples lives. Although everyone has lessons to learn, it can bring closure and lead to a renewed spirit. Highly recommend this book! I received an ARC and so glad I did!

A Limited Run is the latest compelling story by the talented Karen McQuestion. She writes with a unique voice and this story was so intriguing.
When the cast of an old TV show is made an offer to reunite for ten days in a replica of their TV town, they are hesitant but ultimately compelled to agree.
The catch is they must leave all outside contact behind and they must remain in character for the entire ten days. Given the hard feelings between the actors this promises to be a challenge.
As Meri, Jeff, Amanda, Lauren and Dominick enter Haven, things feel strange and unsettling. The greatest part of this book is I was never quite sure what was going to happen next. A look at relationships and rehashing the past.

This was a different story and a delightful change. But Felix's motive is quite a strange one and we find this out towards the end of this story. A sure idea of Karma and all its secrets come out at the end. Quite a surprise with this one.

What a great spin on a story. Five people connected from a past tv series are brought back together for ten days for two million dollars each. If they can last without doing anything out of character. They have to stay true to form. Be the people in the series that they were twenty plus years before. They have all aged. Can they do this? For two million dollars I think I could.

The set is all remade in a huge warehouse in every detail. These actor/prior actors are to stay here for ten days and do what they did before. It's not exactly a script but ideas given each day. Things they are to do. They do pretty good too. Of course there are some things that just won't work out but nothing major. A few surprises along the way. One that I figured out fairly early but it did not take away from this story in any way. A few secrets are revealed. Some nice and some not so nice.

This book is very good. Very well developed and keeps you wanting more. You'll want to know what is happening and why. It's not exactly a whodunit but a who will do what. Who will pass this and make two million dollars. Some things are set up to happen to possibly keep them from winning but there is nothing forced. It's more of a do it or don't type of thing. Either keep true or go against the show's era and ways. I can see why one person did not stay true but some were just silly. They messed up and knew it. Or maybe that was just my take on it. You'll have to read it and see.

Karen McQuestion can weave a story that keeps you right there in it with the characters. Lets you get to know each one. You'll feel like you are at the fair. Eating the fair food or drinking the cokes. Riding the ferris wheel(not me I hate them). The descriptions of the town are great. As they walk down the street you can see what they see. And then you have the big hospital scene. It was a tearjerker scene no doubt. I was wondering how this was going to play out and I was pretty much right. This is a great story. Knowing what each is doing after the fact was great too. Some learned some pretty valuable lessons and changed the way they was living.

In the town of Haven is a family who are almost perfect. But not quite. They have a few flaws. I throughly enjoyed this book. From start to finish it was one of the best. It was a pleasure to read this one.

I received an advanced readers copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. This is just that. You need to read this and other books by this author. Others are not like this one but are great.

5 stars from me.. a very high recommendation.

Karen McQuestion's writing paints such a vivid picture in “A Limited Run”, that it almost feels as though you're watching the book in movie form as you're reading, rather than looking at words. The description of the town in the book is so vivid that I could actually picture it in my mind.

All of the characters are so well developed that you actually care about what they're thinking and what they're doing. Each of the characters have very unique personalities, and just like people I know in real life, I liked some of the characters more than I liked others.

The characters also had interesting relationships both with with the show that they had acted on, and with the other members of the cast.

The plot introduced a number of mini mysteries, which definitely kept my interest as I continued to read for answers. There was also the larger mystery as to why the cast was called back to continue their roles. So as not to give it anything away, I did not see that coming!

If you want a book that is different from anything you've ever read, with a fantastic twist that you're not going to get until it happens,“A Limited Run” is the book for you!

Thank you to the author for an advanced reader's copy in exchange for a honest and unbiased review.

I saw this book at goodwill and I decided to buy it because the concept of the story was very interesting. When I first started this book I had one idea of who sounds like they be involved with everything and I’m glad I was right. I haven’t read a true mystery book in a bit so part of me was waiting for the thriller aspect but I had to remind myself that isn’t coming and it is just a mystery. The whole time reading this I was wondering why and it’s not til the last 15 percent of the book that you get the why. I wanted more to be honest it wasn’t like a huge mystery the reason for things are extremely valid but didn’t blow me away. I really did enjoy the story but I just expected more. To me it was just average and that is fine. It was an easy read that’s for sure and I say this with every book but this will be a great tv show or movie.

PROPOSAL: Ask original members of the TV Show “A Little Taste of Haven” to re-create their roles 25 years after the show’s cancellation. Actors will be given hints of the day’s focus each morning, but the newly revised show will be based on improvisation.
THE REWARD: $2 million dollars if the members remain in character for 10 days and follow the rules offered by billionaire Felix Worthington.
LOCATION: A huge warehouse in Montana holds the entire city of Haven as it existed during the show’s run.
WHAT’S THE CATCH: Read to book to follow along as the characters return to days gone by and deal with their memories and any outstanding issues. The story moves along with twists and turns that you don’t see coming. What could possibly happen during those 10 days??? Come take a stroll down memory lane and visit a kinder and simpler time.

I was pretty bored in the beginning. It took me until they arrived in Montana to really get pulled into the book and then it quickly took a turn I didn’t care for. I figured out the “big reveal” very early on but that wouldn’t have been a big deal if other things about the book had been different. Revenge/retribution storylines don’t appeal to me unless the characters are really, really evil people and in this case, I don’t feel like they were. What was done to them made me really uncomfortable and I just wanted the book to be over. I ended up turning up the speed on the audio a crazy amount just to finish it faster. Also, at the end, it got way too preachy for me. I’m kind of sorry I didn’t just give up on it when I was bored at the beginning, haha. Clearly I’m in the minority since it has an overall high rating.

I devoured this book. I started it on vacation and it was one that you couldn’t put down, you know the one you read every minute, while walking, eating, and putting off sleep

The concept is like nothing I have ever read before.
A beloved television series goes off the air years ago ( we all know one or two of these shows). Every actor goes their own way, only to be presented with the opportunity to replay their characters for closure, forgiveness, second chances and life changing money.

I can’t say enough how much I loved this book! I wanted more!!
Don’t miss this fantastic read!

I was honored to receive an ARC of this book.

I have read a few Karen McQuestion books, and this one is by far the best! I loved the characters and how they developed in the book. I loved all the different points of view. The story had a few twist, and was overall a great read.

I enjoyed the storyline, it was an interesting idea and it worked out so well.

I was sad to finish the book, but I loved that the author had a few follow up characters to give the readers a bit more of the story and a glimpse into where the characters went after the story.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. This book had me gripped from the start. The twists along the way really kept the story moving. Imagine be a cast member on a show set in the ‘40s and the show gets cancelled after a few seasons. Now 25 years later a super fan secretive billionaire wants to redo the show? However things have changed and there was bad things that happened 25 years ago.. This book is well written and I enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

I guessed where this was going fairly early on. The writing is good, and the characters are ok, but I just didn't get invested in them and their troubles. I also felt like this was kind of a missed opportunity, and could have been a really cool story. In the end a talented author just not an engaging story in my opinion.
