Lonely Heroes #9

Avenging Kelly

Rate this book
One man is set on revenge, another man for justice. Can the two of them work together to find the answers to right two wrongs?

Kelly Brown is finally free from the United States Disciplinary Barracks, where he took part in an experimental program that changed his life forever, and he’s got a few scores to settle—who kidnapped his sister at fourteen, and who got her pregnant?

London St. Michael is mourning the loss of his good friend, Mathis Sinclair, who is mown down in the prime of his life by a hit-and-run driver. The men of Golden Elite Associates-America are determined to find the unknown driver and bring them to justice.

When Kelly shows up at the Victorian with a boulder-sized chip on his shoulder and a list of questions as long as his arm, London is quick to take up the torch to help the man find his answers. Nowhere in their quest for the truth do the two men expect to find an attraction that can’t be denied.

This work of fiction is approximately 83,000 words and ends with an H-E-A. It’s book nine in “The Lonely Heroes” series. It is recommended that the series be read in the order released.

I grew up in the rural Midwest before moving to the East Coast with a dashing young man who swept me off my feet, and we've now settled in the desert of Nevada. I write M/M contemporary romance, subgenres: sweet low angst, age-gap, cowboys, mysteries, and military/mercenary to name a few. I am a firm believer in "Love is Love" regardless of how it presents itself, and I'm a staunch ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.

I have a loving, supportive family, and I feel blessed by the universe and thankful every day for all I have been given. I’m old enough to know how to have fun, but too old to care what others think about my definition of a good time. In my heart and soul, I believe I hit the cosmic jackpot. Cheers!

It's so good to finally have Kelly's story after meeting him several books ago and the events that led up to and went on during his time in army prison. What is so upsetting is that this is the penultimate book of the series!
London and Kelly quickly meet after Kelly is soon on the trail of the people who abducted his sister once he is released from prison. There is also the fact that his close friend and staff member/friend/found family at GEA-A, Mathis, has recently been killed in a hit and run "accident". Now they're on the trail of an intense case with many layers, players and tense scenes with our MC's in some sort of trouble.
The drama itself is told in its usual perfect and tension filled way. The plot isn't rushed, information is fed to the characters and readers in small doses so as not to get ahead of ourselves and give things the time to play out. Unfortunately, this time, Kelly is on a deadline. He went through something in prison which has followed him out into the real world and he has a limited number of days before he needs help. London refuses to leave his side and promises to be there for both Kelly and his family - mum, sister, and new baby niece. There are some hard scenes to read with murder and drug use involved, though not in the way many would expect.
What tripped me up somewhat, is just how quickly London and Kelly were saying I love you, having only known each other for days. I know, and have read many where that has felt right, but with the limited interaction they have up until that time it didn't really sit with me. As the story went on and a stronger connection developed I definitely felt that between them. The trust and respect was there pretty quickly, along with the strong attraction but everything plays out well for them eventually and I really love how things end up for them. It's great to have the usual suspects appearing to help with the case and any trouble they get into. They're always fun to read, even when it's not the best situation that they find themselves in.
A highly recommended read in this much loved series! I cannot wait for the grand finale in Chef Rafe whilst simultaneously dreading it as this chapter will come to an end. Hopefully we hear more from the GEA-A team in the future.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

M/M romance with angst, intrigue and revenge
The ninth book about a bunch of great gay guys who track down wrong doers and get justice for the wrongly accused, hurt or discredited people. Gabe has made the American division of Golden Elite Associates a fully engaged group of guys who do the right thing even if not always in the most honest way. I have loved this series. Well-written, fast-paced, multi-faceted story.
Kelly Brown arrives at the doorsteps of GEA-A to find out what happened to his good friend, now “accidentally” killed, Mathis Sinclair. Kelly had gone AWOL to find his kidnapped 14yo sister, Mia, which landed him in Leavenworth. While Kelly was being held in Leavenworth, the US Disciplinary Barracks in Kansas for going AWOL, Mathis was his constant visitor. Mathis was trying to help him find his sister. Now Kelly is angry and looking for revenge. When he arrives at GEA-A, he meets London St. Michael and Kelly describes this meeting as though cartoon hearts are shooting from his eyes. Kind of funny. Events have happened to Kelly that make his anger highly dangerous. What is Operation Jackpot? Who is The Gambler? Can Kelly ever be normal again? Can Kelly get his revenge and how many people will be hurt in the process? Will he get his HEA with London?
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book. If you like intrigue, mystery and happy solutions in M/M fiction, try this book.

This book has everything! Kidnapping. Sex trafficking. Medical experimentation. Conflict among government agencies. Family intrigue. As well as love and romance...so much love!

I received an ARC from the author and loved this book. All of the books in this series are wonderful and I heartily recommend that they be read in order of release. The plot is intricately laid out, the characters are complex and you'll find your emotions are put through the wringer.

Through it all you'll find yourself rejoicing in, and marveling at, the family members who are supportive and those who have agendas that are totally opposite of how you would want your family to treat each other! Lies and murder definitely cross the line for me!

I know there will be at least one more book. I'm going to be sad to have these families go on to new adventures without me.

Kelly and London, I loved their chemistry and surprising sweetness. I really love how this series keeps growing, adding more amazing characters and weaving in lots of drama and mystery. This book definitely has some dark themes, but the author does a great job not letting the angst take over. It was also great to get more of Rafe, to see a little more of his personality. Kelly and London are one of my favorite GEA couples and I loved their happy ending! It was such a lovely conclusion to something that started in quite a dark place. These books are always such a fun read, definitely recommend!

Twists and Turns

I loved how dept the story was and it tied nicely into the overall storyline of the series. It was sad to see a long time side character go but I understood why after reading the story. I do believe that could have been delved deeper into though or not have the slight twist at the end regarding it.

Side note-Loved seeing Casper in action. It’s been a minute. I also have a bone to pick with Giuseppe.

I can’t wait for Chef. I hate to see the story end and hopefully we’ll see more of them again plus the others who are not apart of GEA. All in all great read and full of action. One of my favs in series. I wish they had audio books.

I have read all of the books in the Lonely Heroes series and so far this is the best one. Kelly made a deal with the devil and he knows the only way out is death. When they threatened his family he will do anything to protect them. When he lost his best friend and wanted revenge on the people that killed his sister, he went to the GEA for help. London and Kelly are attracted to each other from the moment they meet. Kelly knew he needed their help but couldn't trust them with his situation. The book is romantic, action-packed, and funny, with some intense moments and very emotional. The book had my attention from start to finish and I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

Cartoon Hearts indeed

Note to Author: A tree of all characters would be wonderful!
Plot: Mystery/Thriller/Romance, government conspiracies, mad scientists, murder, kidnapping, revenge, and a good dose of action
Feels: I think the pairing of Kelly and London has jumped to the top of my list of couples so far in this series. Cartoon hearts indeed!
Drama: Yes, mostly from external sources.
Heat: 2/5
Characters: Kelly is at first glance a “super soldier” a la Captain America, but as with most of the twists in this installment of the Lonely Heroes series, it’s not so clear-cut.
Pacing: Fast
Length: Medium
Ending: HEA

A fantastic story with all the great characters we have come to love! London and Kelly had some strong chemistry right from the beginning and were smoking hot! Working together to keep family safe and get vengeance and justice with the help of all the guys. Some sad moments that pull at your heart but also some very sweet moments! A very enjoyable story that I absolutely loved! This is such a fantastic series and I very highly recommend it! I can’t wait for Chef Rafe! I have enjoyed all the books in the Lonely Heroes series, and Kelly and Landon’s instant attraction story was a great addition. It was dark in places, full of many layers of intrigue and secrets, with some angst, but the author didn’t overly dwell on these, and the romance between the two MCs was sweet and emotional and stood out amongst the darkness. I loved this book from beginning to end and found it hard to put down. Highly recommended.

London & Kelly

I enjoyed this book in the series. We knew of these two but didn’t get to know too much about them until their story came about. Lots of twists and turns as usual in this series. Kelly wants revenge, he wants to build a new life with his family after he gets payback for all the wrongs, Matthias’ death, Mia kidnapping and rape, the government using him. London wants to help, he wants to find what happened to Matthias and can see Kelly needs a lot more help than just locating their enemies.

This has been a very intense series, following individual couples, all deeply interconnected as a chosen family. As in each book there’s action, murder and mayhem mixed with intense emotions, bedroom activity and getting to know you secrets.
Kelly’s life is in turmoil and London is his Person. Throw in a cute baby and you have compulsive reading
It’s good to keep in touch with the GEA-A team and watch the families grow and the underlying backstory coming to a pinnacle.
The author says One more to go and it’s going to be a doozy I’m sure

Trauma and Aggression

Wow, Kelly really had to go through some things on his journey through life. I am glad he was able to find some happiness in his life. He really deserved so much better than he had before he met London. London was an absolute doll throughout this entire book. He was fiercely loyal to Kelly and willing to risk it all for him. His willingness to take care of Daisy without question sealed the deal for me. He is good people. I, of course, loved seeing all our other boys throughout the book. I am excited for Dallas and Rafe!

Wow all I can say is hold on to your seat cause this book takes you on one hell of a ride. Kelly is so sweet but extremely dangerous to anyone who hurts his family and the ones he loves.

London meet Kelly and fell head over heels for him. London will do what it takes to help him. There chemistry is HOT but also super sweet. These two men will take you on a wild ride and keep you on the edge of your seat.

This is one of my favorites of this series….so worth the wait!!!

This is such an amazing series and gets better with each book. Lots is happening and we keep connecting with the other characters. When London and Kelly meet, sparks fly and they fall in love fast. But before they can truly be together Kelly needs to find his sister's kidnappers and find out what was done to him and loose his addiction. But they don't need to face it alone. We have to wait a few months for the last installment, but it's promising to be an explosive ending.

Woo! This one was as good as I'd hoped it would be. Although some minor elements were a little predictable, the overall manner in which it unfolded was not.
There are some mentions and topics, on and off page, that sensitive readers may not enjoy including: drug use and addiction, rape, sexual assault on a minor, manipulation, murder, kidnapping...
RomSus with a HEA.

Now reading the bonus short, Baby Romeo! <3 <3 <3

I loved London and Kellys story.
Poor Kelly was put through the ringer, repeatedly, then caught the eye of London, a man willing to support and help him regardless of whatever he needed.
This story had so many twidts amd turns, Im not ashamed to say I wasnt able to predict much of it.
It was great seeing previous characters return and I cant wait for Rafes book

Finally Kelly and London

No! No! No! You cannot end the Lonely Heroes Series! They are family!
So glad we finally got Kelly's and London's love story and we were finally able to put an end to a bunch of bad guys that was leftovers from the previous Lonely Heros.
You will not want to miss a single word of this action packed book of revenge. So set back and smile!

It has been a while since I read the earlier books, so the first few chapters were a bit overwhelming with so many characters and trying to recall their backstories. After that, though, I was invested. London and Kelly had great chemistry. The storyline is action packed with a bit of romance mixed in.

This is a great addition to the series. It has everything, kidnapping, corrupt government, murder, drug addiction to name a few. I have enjoyed all the books in the series I have read. I love how most of the characters are seen again in each book as new characters are added. This is a fast paced fun angsty read.
I received this book as an Advanced Reader's Copy.

The story was entertaining and the narration was performed well. The romance and steamy scenes didn't quite work for me since I prefer a slow burn romance. There was plenty of action to keep me engaged, and the social commentary was interesting. Not my favorite of the series, but still worth the read.

The Lonely Heroes Series just gets better and better. Avenging Kelly is a fantastic read. It kept my attention all the way through. I loved the interaction between Kelly and London. Both were in need of a HEA. I was glad to see them find it.

It's a nice book but I was lost af while reading it, the "tech" side was a little heavy to digest and the MCs relationships felt a lot like instalove/lust so I lost some interest and kept reading for the story and now I wanna read more of the same universe.

Although I like the characters in this book, I found it to be a bit of a mess. The plot just seemed wacky a bit. Not that this was a bad book, just not as good as the others in this series.

Kelly has been through hell since his sister's abduction and what followed and he was so happy to be back with his family but it unfortunately did work out how he had hoped. He though was able to make a great family with London and Daisy and he knew London would support him through everything. They had to go through a lot but those that had caused harm were brought to justice.
