Omega Lottery #1

Tryst in the Dark

Rate this book
Omegas.

Coveted. Reviled.

In a world where reproduction has decreased, Omegas are seen as a salvation, their ability to have children with ease envied to extremes. But Omegas were scarce, so rare that they'd become a commodity, secretively hoarded by the government, right up until their 21st birthday, where they become the grand prize in a nationwide lottery, officially known as The Allotment. Every eligible male has a chance, be they Alpha or Beta.

I hated it. I hated that when I revealed as an Omega, all my choices disappeared overnight. My future was decided the moment my parents found me sobbing and overwhelmed, hiding in my own closet, and to hell with my own hopes and dreams. I wanted to rage against my fate, but how did you say no to the very people who ruled the world?

Easy answer; you don't. So here I am, Tryst O'Sullivan, being raffled off to random men across the country. Sure, they maintained that they were chosen at random, but what were the chances that I'd bag a honest down-to-earth mechanic one day, and then one of the richest Alphas in the country the next?

Something was rotten in the system, and I had no choice but to take it. However, if my new Pack thought they were getting a sweet, docile Omega, they were going to be surprised. I'd fight back on my own if fate decided to f*ck with me one more time.

I was used to fighting my battles alone. I was Tryst O'Sullivan, and I would be no man's doormat.

When I was nine, my grandmother and her friends used to read and swap Harlequin Mills and Boons novels. When I was busted reading one, they started sneaking me boxes full of strong heroines and rugged men. Thus started a long love affair with the romance genre.

Then I discovered urban fantasy, and fell in love with broody Alphas and sexy paranormals, and combining them together was a no brainer.

Then I discovered Reverse Harem.... Oh my. Why choose, am I right?

I really kinda liked this one.

I loved the different take on the Omega lottery, where the men who were being chosen might not want to be ripped away from the lives and mates they may have. I also liked that betas were included in the lottery just like alphas to keep it fair. In most books the men are happy and ready to go after being chosen, but that's not quite how this one pans out.

I really enjoyed how all these issues with each of the different mates were handled. All the way up to the last man. I loved how open and compassionate Tryst was to her mates even when she didn't have a choice. Though Tryst was a firecracker and a half once smart mouth and no filter Corrin was added, it definitely kept things lighter with all the dark themes going on, not to mention had me cracking up repeatedly.

I don't want to give too much of the story away. This was pretty fast paced and action packed. There is a lot going on with the mates and their previous lives in some cases. The government department that handled Omegas was definitely shady and had other nefarious schemes going on.

I liked this one a lot. Tryst did end up with seven mates, two of which were a set of twins. I do think it felt somewhat rushed with so many mates and the overarching storyline. I feel this may have done better as a duet so that we got a little more time to get in depth into some of the mates and their interconnected relationships. Overall still good. I loved some of the side characters and can't wait to read more in this "verse" world.

2.75 stars, so rounded up.

If i wanted to read about people being forced into situations against their will and people having no rights, i would have just turned on the news instead.

The pack was not an already established pack, something I would have preferred, but instead random guys chosen by a lottery. She has no rights. They have no rights in this either. They are forced together and to consumate their bond within hours of meeting. And honestly if Hart would have been written more like an activist, i would have understood the whole legal stuff more, because it really wasn't explained well why he wanted to unbond when he wanted to be with her too. If he had done that to make legal changes and give forced matches rights, I would have liked it better than just some "hangup" because of his past?

Also, if it is so difficult for beta women to conceive, why are there so many illegitimate kids running around. Would think that being fertile would give them some more status, even for a beta.

Loved it. It did a good job at keeping each MMC as an individual with enough dimension to them to keep me interested without throwing too much in. I could not put this story down so I would say it was a very enjoyable read! I only wish the whole situation with Remzi was more fleshed out. It was a big part of the plot then got pushed aside for an external conflict. I was looking for an omegaverse that would give me the warm and fuzzy along with the angst and this was perfect for that though so I can’t complain.

Ps. I’d give the grovelling a 2/10 and as someone who loves some good, much deserved grovelling, this was disappointing.

omegaverse/ omega & 7 bond mates/

I really enjoy this author. She writes unique paranormal/omegaverse stories that are hot AF and written so well I have a hard time putting them down. This one just dropped the ball a lot for me.

Things:
-We have a lottery system where an omega whose been taken by the govt as soon as she is shown to be an omega and she’s hidden away until she’s of age we’re there is a “random” lottery draw of SSN that picks her mates.
-Omega goodies without not having a back home. She does stand up for her self which I love
-We have 4 betas and 3 alphas. 3 are bi. 1 alpha is from the Irish mob. 1 alpha is a tech billionaire and 1 alpha is an Asian twin with a beta bro whose also a bond mate 😮 😂
-Orgies/MFM/MM/sharing is caring but also individual moments with each other which is nice. Not really any MM Action it’s just kinda known.
-Steamg AF
-written so well

The things that didn’t add up.. yeah..Let’s talk about it:
-my main issue- it ended Waaaayyyy to soon. There is not enough development with the individual relationships of the omega and her mates, and not even as a pack. It was like go-go-go BOOM done. WTF grace? i honestly scrolled to the last page to see a “book 2” coming soon but nope- nothing. 👎🏻 no bueno. Mama is not happy about this.
-undeveloped/unresolved issues. Remzi and tryst needed more, they needed to work really though their stuff. I still don’t fully get why remzi did what he did and then just swoops in as the hero randomly. We needed more of all these characters.
-what’s Donnie’s purpose? Does he solve the issue?
-do we get to see more about akio and jak
-We needed more of RJ! he joined in the last 3 pages FFS
-Happily..,. Now? Idk like mentioned above it just ended. Like wtf happened? Does she have a baby? What is it? How do they settle into their home? Do they get away from the DoDA?

YEAH … this was well written and could’ve been a lot more of it was longer or even a series so we get more from this story and it can develop but I see nothing of more coming so … I hope it does become a series and continues. I love her writing, I reread manix often. This makes me so sad but I didn’t love this 😫 but if there’s a book 2 I can get on board if it’s about the hart pack.

I love Kacey so freaking much!! He was my fave!!

This was a good omegaverse romance, but it could have used a little more fleshing out. Some of the connections with the pack i just didn’t totally feel and so that brought it down for me. This was also super different from others i have read, with it being a dystopian world, which was an interesting change of pace. I’ll check out more from this author still!

Damn. This author really said “hold my beer” when looking at a romance trope list.

RH ✅
Billionaire ✅
Small town lover ✅
Mafia ✅
Daddy isues ✅✅✅✅✅✅
Gay best friend ✅
Gov conspiracy ✅
Bodyguard ✅
Virgin ✅
Rejection ✅
Surprise? pregnancy ✅
Gay henchman ✅
Lesbian lawyer ✅
Second chance ✅

I can go on.

Anyways, I didn’t hate it. There is just A LOT going on in this book. I mean, we get a whole ass court trial before 70%. What am I supposed to do with this?

Question: What does 1 do with 7 men in a RH??? Asking for a friend.

5 betas, all bisexual 🤔 quite convenient I dare say dear Watson 🧐 and 3 alphas.

While many things in this book are cringe, the one I had the most ??? were the twins. Actual twins, bonded, to the same omega, and…said bonding happened together 😟. Meh

Literary equivalent of a trope scavenger hunt. Have fun!

Characters
Tryst- Been locked up since she was discovered to be an Omega. Hates the system. Refuses to just roll over and take it. Has her own mind.

1. Grady- Mechanic. Steady, sure, mature. In love with Corrin. Beta.

2. Corrin- Pottery artist. Fun, friendly and positive. Free love. Rejected by his family for falling in love with Grady. Beta. Wasn’t part of the lottery, snuck in to get Tryst’s approval. Once said that watching the pack, sexually, made him so full of emotion that he might explode in a hail of glitter and rainbow jizz. “I wouldn’t be opposed to the suggested orgy.”

3. Remzi Hart (aka Pack Daddy lol)- Big Technology business man. His mother was an Omega in a loveless pack before she died. Rejects Tryst. First Alpha, pack takes his name.

4. Kacey Boyd- Parents are in Irish Mafia, extracurriculars are questionable. Tatted. Ready for the fights and the good time. Alpha. “...like a heady darkness, filled with coiled violence and the promise of pleasure. He was like being strapped to bed, and feeling a paddle brush against your ass.”

5. Akio Bell- Asian. Thoughtful, respectful, intelligent, patient. Honors his ancestors and the way of the Omega. Alpha. “Akio was like a thick blanket on a cold night, warm and encompassing.”

6. Jak Bell- Twin to Akio. Beta, lives in brothers shadow. *see Akio’s quote* “Jak felt kind of similar, but there was also something a little darker about it... more like black sheets than flannel.”

7. RJ- Worked for DoDA, witnessed all the sex. Was Tryst’s guard. Beta. “In another life, Tryst O’Sullivan, I would have tried my fucking hardest to make you love me. I would have made it my life‘s mission to ensure you’d never have known a single day of this turmoil.“

Plot
The plot was kinda all over the place. First it’s the process of the dreaded Omega lottery, then it’s the divorce trial, then... wait... the DoDA kidnapped Tryst. Now they’re leaving the country. I feel like if we spent less time on the divorce (that never happened anyway) and more time on fighting the DoDA, it might’ve felt more cohesive in our fight against the man.

My Opinion
Smutty times were great, romance wasn’t as good as it could’ve been- if Remzi was wooing her instead of fighting her, he would’ve shined as a mate then! As it was he seemed like a bit of a self centered asshole with the hurt he gave our Omega. Then he tried to get the group to work together smh

“WE’RE already working together for Tryst. WE’VE been figuring out OUR shit for OUR Omega this whole fucking time. YOU’RE the only one not getting along, so don’t make it sound like it’s an us problem, asshole. It’s a YOU problem.“

I loved the characters, and Tryst wasn’t some difficult Omega. She became more pleasant after mating, which was cool with me.

Quotes
“Welcome to the Uncertain Club. We think we might get T-shirts. Maybe.”

“ Life was nothing if not a consistent bitch.“

This book was everything!

Set in a dystopian-like world, where war ravished the population, and the Government came back full of harsh rules and regulations. The Department of Designation Association (DoDA) rules, where Omegas are so rare, they were not able to live their own life in the U.S... They were now under Government law and were to be placed in a lottery before their first heat to get their pack where they would essentially produce and populate. Each night, a new "winner" is picked at random until her pack is complete.

Our FMC, Tryst is a woman of force and kneels to no one but herself, so when her time came to accept her fate, she was not going to just lie down and take it. Meeting her mates, she is surprised at the connection each one brings. With twists, turns, rejections and new beginnings, Tryst is in an entirely new element where she is the focus and is not made to submit. Her mates, Grady, Remzi, Kacey, Akio and Jak and a few others which I can't give away ;-) ..... Are all different and bring something new to the table.

With an impending civil court case that Tryst unwantedly landed in the middle of and a secret organization that is kidnapping Omegas, will Tryst have what it takes to pull through? Will her pack bondmates want to stick out this nonstop craziness for the long haul? Can they really 'stick it to the man' and gain their independence they all crave?

I loved this book! Like always, Grace has the imagination that always seems to blow me away. I hope to see a book 2 following this, but she left it open where it can really be continued with the same characters or new characters. This book sucks you in and you can't help but keep turning the pages. I was on the edge of my seat with who was going to be her next mate. When her heat came for the first time, my jaw was left hanging open by the actions that were taken! It was sexy, funny and I loved every bit of the storyline!

*Overall 5/5
*Heat? 5/5
*Fast Burn
*Multiple first person POV
*Light MM in harem
*Ends in HFN!

Angst. Grovel. RH. Bonding. Pretty common elements to an omegaverse read, right? This was the most unique omegaverse I’ve read so far. Sure, it talked about omegas having autonomy taken away which isn’t unusual to see in this subgenre. What was different was the women’s rights elements, especially during such a controversial time in the US. I don’t normally discuss politics on here but this story really resonated with the current climate on reproductive rights. My body, my choice. The author’s note said the decision to overturn Roe v wade occurred when she was 75% done with the book, and this wasn’t some manifesto about it, but there are some definite parallels. The men were top notch, loving and accepting. Each brought in something special. I won’t spoil who she ends up with but damn lucky girl. I hope there is a part two with the same pack. No cliffhanger but definitely room for a second installment. I need more gooey pack moments and I need to get all the I-love-you’s cause I’m a sap and melt for that shit. Can’t wait to read more by this author. 4.75 stars (just cause I felt some relationships needed a little more TLC)

Not a 3 cause i did skimmed read some parts away. I like the whole idea of what Hart tried to do and i did like the MCs. Its fast paced but they were introduced really well.

I couldn’t be sure but the plot after her pregnancy just kind went too haywire for me (like what even was that?) and then it ended. 😢

This is one rich omegaverse read. Tryst is a great omega heroine, as she is both strong and yet ultimately accepting of her omega nature. Her beta and alpha heroes run the gamut from funny to admirable to total jerk, and that made this quite the interesting omegaverse romance.

I did struggle with the RH aspects of this--when it gets to be six or more guys, I get exhausted just reading the sexcapades (though at least the omegaverse nature of this made it more understandable to me). But you've got a culture that is just wrong for omegas, heroes who want to work with Tryst to improve omegas' lots in life (though sometimes those choices are poor), and marvelous secondary characters who end up playing unexpected roles in the story. All of this adds up to a truly wonderful omegaverse romance.

I don’t want to make a premature assumption but I think this book has finally helped snap me out of my book slump. It’s the first book I haven’t felt meh or apathetic about in almost 2 weeks.

I really enjoy omegaverse and I’m glad it seems to be becoming more popular. In this world omegas have no right really. They are kept by the government to be protected. They aren’t exactly mistreated but they have no right and no choices. The government holds a lottery in which every available unmarried man participates. If you are drawn you get yourself an omega mate. They give them only a few hours before forcing them to bond. The process repeats until the pack is complete.

Of course, is anything ever that easy? I really liked the h and her pack. It ended up being an eclectic gathering of misfits. It was surprisingly angsty but in a good way.

It wasn’t perfect but it was good and I was invested in the story. I wish the h had been less forgiving of Remzi, one of her Hs and held him more accountable. I get what’s Remzi’s game was but playing it at the expense of your bonded omega was fucked up. The man needed to grovel and no one held him accountable. Even the righteous anger of the other pack mates fizzled into nothing.

I wish we’d gotten a glimpse of Agatha, of one the government officials, getting some sort of comeuppance. She was a cuntbucket and had zero consequences. It prickled at me.

Fast burn

Virgin h
Nesting
Biting/marking
Sword crossing
No OW/OM drama
No cheating
No scenes with others
Separation from 1 packmate for a few weeks
HEA

Safety - I’d call this safe

I have previously read the Shadow Bred series by the same author and loved it so I was super excited to see that she had another omegaverse standalone coming out. I'm not sure what it was specifically but this one just didn't capture my heart the same way her previous writing did. For one, the general plot and writing felt a bit disjointed and there were multiple points where I was just confused and had to reread. The characters felt a bit one dimensional and while I could see what she wanted for each character, their different personalities weren't written as strongly as I would have liked. Tryst to me was pretty average and there wasn't anything bad about her but there also wasn't anything about her that jumped out at or endeared me to her. I think because of that I was never really able to fully invest myself into this book.

Don't get me wrong there were some points where I was intrigued but they weren't very often. There were several plot points that I don't think were addressed as thoroughly as they should have been because I'm still a bit confused on the explanation for why one character did a complete 180 all of a sudden? I was also a bit bummed that the villain wasn't really taken out they way I was hoping considering how awful they were throughout the whole story. I think other people might enjoy this but overall it just fell flat for me.

Somehow I keep being dragged down into more smut. I enjoyed myself even tho this is more in the hub and spokes model of polyamory. There are a few spokes that poke each other but it’s pretty lady-centric. Which seems exhausting.

Also, in this one is a sibling pair which is something I’ve never been okay with. And yet this author pulled me in for the ride (oh dear).

This woman has 7 (what!?) partners by the end. She doesn’t have enough holes for that. So, I’ll continue to affirm that it sounds exhausting and not fun.

But I still enjoyed it. There’s some intrigue and adventure in this one and that made it interesting.

She seems to be horny for every single person she meets. Like all of them. It’s a bit over the top.

But person who suggested this one wasn’t wrong. It was better than most poly/omega.

I wasn't feeling this one when I read it I'm sorry.
I really like the concept, it's just the more characters and love interests are introduced the harder it is for the relationships with the main girl to be closer?? like more more intimate and genuine. I think it should have stopped after Corrin, Grady and Kacey cause everyone that came after them is just forgotten.

Also another thing that really makes me uncomfortable in RHs and also omegaverse type stories is how little the main girl has autonomy over her body and what I mean is how when there is a "heat" story line she just becomes this needy spineless baby that just "neeeeeds" dick

and I'm like girl please why are you so weak in the knees STAND UP!! have some pride, omg just so embarrassing. To be so helpless and at the mercy of a man is just something I can't condone.

Like I'm not against the part where she's compatible with the guys and enjoys herself, and I'm not against them taking care of her, I just wish it was because she could very well take care of herself but CHOOSES to let them do this gesture for her, not because she is incapable.

yeah so basically the main issue for me is the power dynamics, it's multiple guys and just one girl and I wish there were all on equal footing outside of sex yk despite her being and omega.

Rushed & Unfinished

------SPOILERS------

The book felt very rushed. 80% was just getting her bonds then uh oh she's been kidnapped, the government is behind it, we get her back within a day, we decide to runway instead of fighting, the end.
No resolution. No glimpse at the future to see if the mix match of bonds is successful.
I just think this book needed something else. It felt incomplete. Even the spice was rushed.

Not too much to say about this great Omegaverse book. It's got elements of sweet Omegaverse set in a darker, post-apocalyptic world. Liked the dudes. Liked the lady. Liked the plot. Lots of spice. Would definitely recommend. I would read more books set in this world.

Re-read 5/8/23: Same thoughts still apply. McGinty writes fabulous Omegaverse and reverse harem stories. And she announced there's going to be another book in this series coming in 2024!

The thought of having all of my choices taken away like Tryst is a scary thought. From who you are with to what you do with your life! I can not imagine it. Also knowing you are truly no one’s first choice in the beginning which Tryst said would be hurtful.

Grady was so sweet and loving. I’m glad he was her first bond mate.

Love Corrin even though at first I was really mad how he manipulated Tryst in bonding with him. I understand he loves Grady but that was a crap way of staying with him.

I wanted to jump through and punch Remzi. Scared or not he was an ass. Glad he redeemed himself by the end.

Kacey ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ my favorite alpha. Love him and his take no shit attitude

The twins were awesome. I was also rooting for RJ the whole time and so glad when he became apart of the pack.

The spice was great, what does it say about me that I felt it could have been a bit more detailed 🤷‍♀️🫣

At this point, I'd read Grace McGinty's shopping list and it'd probably be great.

I wasn't always an Omegaverse connessiuer. But now that I'm into it, I also am certain Grace McGinty is one of my top favorite writers in the space.

📚 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Omegaverse, reverse harem

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: In a society where Omegas have no rights, Tryst hasn't made any of her own decisions. Now she's thrown into The Alottment - an Omega lottery that defines her future and her new pack.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Grace McGinty is so freaking good at setting up an omegaverse reverse harem - or any reverse harem for that matter.

She always has the perfect set of guys, with individual personalities. She always has an incredible female lead. The spice is out of this world. The sexual fluidity seems natural. There's added emotion that makes you feel connected to the pacm. Then she wraps it all around a *gasp* storyline that keeps you turning pages.

I've read almost all of her series, and I'm constantly throwing out 4 and 5 star reviews for her work. This was no different. The Alottment storyline was interesting, and how the Pack grew gave me a few twists and turns. I loved every bit of it, and can't wait to see where she's going with more of this concept.

🔮 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲: Medium. The omegaverse, once you understand it, flows into these books. Even tho there's small nuances to each, they're relatively easy to get the gist of.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4/5 🌶🌶🌶🌶

“Knot me,” I gasped. “Please.” I needed his cum painting my inner walls, needed him to breed with me.”

Interesting take on omegaverse. Omegas are rare and auctioned off to random betas and alphas to create their own pack. Only, they don’t get a say either
And everyone’s lives are completely changed overnight. Everyone loses family, friends, their homes.

Tons of sex. Instalove. Knotting. Slick. Heat. Nesting.

It was an ok read for me.

I liked the premise of an Omega Lottery
and that decision is out of their hands.
However this was pretty bare bones, it
could have been pushed way further. I
wasn't really in the mood for something
long so I'm not too mad at it. But when I'm
in a better reading mood I would loved to
see this developed more than just smut-filled
interactions.

SPOILERS AHEAD

#1 The government agency doesnt seem to be competent or even knows what theyre doing if
they were just releasing the pack only to kidnap
them again

#2 If the Govt law was so airtight and final despite
the city being controlled by private industries, why
didn't Remzi already have the power to abstain beforehand. But he was allowed to not five minutes after unloading his semen into her

#3 There could have been way more angst
between Tryst and RJ. Their unrequitedness could
have brought somethingto the story

#4 In the end we don't actually learn anything abt
her bondmates but their families and jobs. There
isnt an inkling of personality really

#5 When Kacey came into the picture, thought we'd be able to see love vs sense of duty predicament but nope everyones immediately head over heels for one another. I dont know if its the Biology of it all but feels unnatural

Like I said this could've been great if it was fleshed out it needed 150 pages more

“Let me show you what Mr. Squeaky can’t do!”

4.5 ⭐️I’ve never read an omega verse story so this popped my cherry and did it pop it with a bang. Oh my goodness I loved this story!

The one liners, the banter and the dynamics between the whole pack were outstanding. I was literally laughing throughout the whole thing. I’ve highlighted so many funny lines it was just hilarious. It was also really really heartfelt like there’s some really sweet moments between the pack members as well like oh my gosh they were just too sweet. The goldfish moment had me tearing up, just you wait!

The story has a super cool, interesting premise and plot. I was hooked straight up. Tryst is so sassy and feisty, I was low key in love with her at like 4%!
I love how it’s straight into the plot like there’s no mucking around. It’s just like let’s play this out organically you’ll get to know the characters as you go along short sharp chapters. And like mega spicy straight up to. Wow goodness, I did not expect that.

So many great moments, do yourself a favour and read this book. I'm going back to look at the rest of Grace’s catalogue because I need more of this sort of stuff. It was amazing!

Why didn’t I read this sooner?

Everyone in this book was amazing. All of them. All the characters has complex backgrounds and motivations and all has been screwed over by the government in some way or another.
I loved the world building, especially the origin story for alphas and omegas - appearing after the last world war because of nuclear bombs. I would have loved more time to get to know the final few MMCs, but we still get to know them enough to love them.

Spice: 5/5

5/5 ⭐️

This is probably my favourite omegaverse that I have read.

This was an easy read, fast paced, great smut 🥵
The banter was fantastic, this book made me laugh a lot! I loved the dynamic of whole pack.

The plot the drew you in, I was hooked needing to know what the hell was going on! Plus add really hot spice on top! This book has everything!

Tryst is sassy and caring! I feel Inlove with her pretty much straight away! I loved all of her guys but Kacey and RJ definitely are at the top of my list!

I definitely recommend this book! This was my first read by this author and I can’t wait to read her other stories!!

P.s I hope Aggie suffers (read the book, you will side with me)

Omegaverse

If there is one thing I love more in the whole wide world besides reading, its reading a omegaverse! Absolutely one of my favorite genres! I really liked this story, loved our character's. This had the mix of multiple dramas going on. And hot guys to add with delicious orgies. My only hickup was no outcome for the bad guys. Honestly, I wanted to see that organization burn. And I'm a bit not understanding our first alphas motives in the beginning. There are two totally different explanations for why he did what he did. And I'm not sure if we're are given the second explanation as to why? Just so that our omega can forgive him?
