When a new local realtor asks Eve Lloyd to add a special homey touch to a house on the market, Eve thinks nothing of it. The house is located in a quiet cul-de-sac. She only needs to go in, bake some muffins, clean up and leave.
What could go wrong? According to her friend, Jill, anything could go wrong so she should play it safe and stay away. Dismissing the warning as nonsense, Eve spends the next day baking up a storm.
When the house sells, Eve returns to her daily routine of dropping by the Seabreeze Inn, running errands and making sure her aunt, Mira, has everything she needs. Then, she hears the news. The quiet cul-de-sac has been rocked by an unexpected death and Eve suddenly realizes she is the only one who knows the death was no accident.
As she works on convincing the police to treat the death as suspicious, Eve experiences a couple of accidents and near misses. Is someone out to silence her?
Humorous Cozy Mystery. Clean no graphic violence, sex, or strong language but lots of fun characters and quirky dialogue
Eve Lloyd is hired to bake something just a couple of hours before the showing of a house. When she arrives at the house the neighbor across the street comes over for a chat. With Eve being busy she brushes the young woman off. A couple of days later Eve and Mira discover that the young woman had died in an accident. Eve had issues with it being an accident because of something the woman had told her when they met. When Eve starts asking questions, someone decides to target her.
This was a fun story and was close to the reasons I started this series in the first place. The story was fresh and an enjoyment to read.
.. takes Eve to an empty house where she'll cook a batch of muffins to entice buyers at an open house day for the new realtor in town.
On arrival she briefly meets Gigi Jones; a newly wed who has just moved to the area she appears lonely and desperate for conversation which unfortunately Eve doesn't have time for.
When a matter of a couple of days later an article in the local paper briefly mentions Gigi's death Eve is confused. When did it happen? Where's the obituary? And why doesn't anyone seem to know anything at all about it when the island rumour mill is flourishing? Who is Bobby Jones, Gigi's husband, and what brought them to such an out of the way place?
Unable to stop herself Eve digs and Mira and Jill join in with speculation and ideas, not all feasible, but ideas lead to questions.. they have plenty about Bobby Jones who has been so very unusually quiet for a bereaved newly wed but also about the sudden influx of new young women to the island.. Claire the reporter, Jenny the florist, Linda the realtor, and even Tammy her receptionist.. when Eve is run off the road following talking to 3 of them suspicion rises..
Claire seems very keen to help but does she have an ulterior motive?
Jenny failed to deliver the flowers Eve sent to Bobby Jones Gigi's husband and seems to be overly keen to refund her..
Linda appeared to be in a world of her own and hardly recognise Eve who she was praising loudly having clinched an almost immediate sale on the open house..
could she have said anything to Tammy her rather rude employee who seems at loggerheads with Eve..
I feel that these have become a little bit more unbelievable with each new book.. this time there were leaps that really didn't seem relevant and it felt a big stretch at the end when almost everything they'd wildly imagined appeared to be true.. I think Eve received one bump too many and should perhaps have a rest before conducting any further investigations. It's a shame because I have really enjoyed many of Parin's novels and I so wish it had been more like her earlier books. Maybe it's time to retire this series.. it's difficult when you limit yourself to an island community.
The latest from Rock Maine Island. Eve has been hired to make a house showing more homely by baking at the premises. She meets one of the neighbours who is bew to the area.
When the neighbour Eve spoke to winds up dead a few days later, Eve is convinced something is amiss, and when her life is put in danger she's sure she's on the right track.
A standalone cozy mystery, part of a series which is best read in order of publication to preserve continuity of the characters and series.
Eve gets into the darnedest predicaments. This time she was not a suspect, butte killer did try to get Eve out of the way. I love these books I hope there are many more.
What could possibly go wrong???? What happened to Gigi Jones and why??? Who rearended her and why or why not??? I enjoyed this story and recommended the book.
