«Read and Think French» is divided into chapters guiding you through the cultures and customs of different French-speaking countries. It aims at helping learners of the French language enrich their vocabulary while increasing French fluency. I encourage you to peruse these fascinating articles while repeating reading, listening, and speaking!

Excellent series of 1 or 2 page articles which discuss the nature, culture and food of France and French speaking countries. The vocabulary lists on the sides are helpful and encouraging. Great for a French student working at B1 level of studies.

You know those passages in French textbooks where they dedicate a page or two to a specific topic in French culture and the Francophone world? That's basically what this is but without the French grammar overview, it's only those passages, and done by theme. It's often hard to find books on just French culture where, if you don't have the privilege and luxury of living in a French-speaking town or country, it's difficult to really be exposed to it. Of course there's reading French media, French magazines, watching French films, and reading French literature, but it's nice having something convenient like this available (and current! This new edition of this Read & Think series was published in 2022). It highlights not only Francophone culture in France, but also in Canada and French territories like Guadalupe and Senegal, so it expands your knowledge outside of just l'Hexagon. These were pretty short, sweet, and enjoyable articles that were also very fun and interesting to read. It was also an easy way to boost your vocabulary, and where that vocabulary is right there so you don't have to look them up in the dictionary and interrupt your reading flow. If you're looking for challenging and advanced French-language reading material though, you won't get that here. The level is intermediate, not hard to understand or read at all. But even if you're an advanced French-language reader, with how much you get out of Read & Think French, it's really worth its weight in all the knowledge you get out of it. Bonus that they have an accessible and extremely helpful online app that includes flashcards of all the vocabulary words and streaming audio recordings of 45 of the articles so to improve your listening skills, or so you can listen to them as you read the article. They also quiz you on those vocabulary words that you just learned. I was really impressed by the quality; you could truly tell that the editors of Think French Magazine are really generous and sincerely care about their readers and want them to get the most out of learning French and French culture through this book. Even better, they most definitely deliver: Read & Think French is great, just about has it all, and is perfect for any French student and Francophile!

Just a note: I enjoyed this book so much that I went to look for the 1st and 2nd edition, and was confused to learn that they're both the exact same as this edition! No new updated articles, just the exact same ones. Like, why? Why reprint basically the same book? You can't call them new editions if nothing was ever changed, so that is misleading and disappointing, and is basically false advertising. So keep that in mind, just buy this edition and only this edition, or else you'll be buying the same book, three times!

Highly recommend for intermediate French readers. It contains a variety of topics with easy to use side-bar vocabularies.
