Art Deco style is everywhere, from travel posters to furniture, fine art to design. This new edition offers an introduction to this classic aesthetic.
Focusing on Art Deco graphic art and illustration, this gorgeous new book features fascinating text on the movement in general, fashion and advertising, accompanied by beautiful reproductions of work by talents such as Barbier, Erté, Cassandre and Colin. Sympathetic examples of other forms of Art Deco are also included.
I will be the first to admit that art is not one of my strongest points - I like what I see but ask my why I like it or what makes it special and I am lost. That said I do love art (that I can understand and enjoy at least) as my Papertiger collection can attest to.
So when I stumbled across the Masterpieces of Art series I was intrigued - so yes expect to see more of them to come! They cover a whole range of artists many of whom I know and have some works of - but there are couple of the series which focus on a style rather than person - this is one of them.
It is a celebration and brief overview (after all how much can you cover on the topic in one book) of the style and the age in which it was most popular.
I think what I loved about this book is that I recognised so much - from the Metropolis posters to the advertising campaigns of the time - aa great introduction (at least for me) in to the whole style.
