Twenty years ago, a woman with a secret vanished only to turn up murdered a year later on the same shoreline where she’d disappeared.
And now it’s happening again.
Psychic Ryley St. James has found a killer’s dumping ground. Six dead bodies took their secrets to a watery grave. And now Ryley’s name has been added to the killer’s hit list.
She refuses to be number seven.

And that includes side lining the sexy new stranger that has just walked into her life that she’s unsure is friend or foe. She’ll have to unmask and outsmart a killer in hopes of sending him to his grave before he kills her first.
With her life hanging in the balance, she’s playing a game she’s unsure she can win.
Grave Shelter By Kate Allenton Another entertaining set of ghostly and psychic adventures of our psychic gal and friends. New characters added great plots and subplots, intriguing action and suspense, and murder mysteries. I'm really loving this series!
Me encanto la inclusión de Addler a la historia, me gusto el tema de la doble moral y me encantó el final. I loved the inclusion of Addler in the story, I liked the theme of double standards and I loved the ending.
This series gets better and better. Ryley is such a great character with her psychic abilities her funny snarky comments and being able to handle extreme circumstances.
A ghost leads her to watery grave filled with dead women. A serial killer has been killing for over 20 years. Ryley gets embroiled in the case with figuring out who the women are along with trying to figure out who the killer is.
There were some pretty big changes in this book. A new character was introduced as Ryley's potential love interest and he was a man a mystery but very intriguing. Cant wait to see where things go.
This is such a great series packed fully of paranormal, great characters and humor.
The MC is witty. I love that. What I don’t like is that she is weak. She is constantly in need of saving. Having a gun and witty replies do not make you strong or a bada**. Can you not take a self defense class??? Not only this, she is very easy to forgive. Too easy. What I would have liked to see through the the book was independent action like at the end of the book. I do not like how she allowed the police and pastor to treat her.
Grave Shelter, the third book in the series, psychic extraordinaire Ryley St. James had stumbled upon a serial killer’s dumping site. Unfortunately, that puts her directly in his crosshairs. Quite an entertaining read with good characters and an interesting storyline.
I love the mix of humor, tension, mystery and paranormal. The witty banter with Riley is EPIC. The cast of characters are so unique as well as they play off of each other…awesome.
This series is unique AND so well written. This author has fast become a favorite of mine. Her writing is smooth and I just can’t put her books down. She’s a must read for those who love a mystery with paranormal.
This book was a fast mover with a tight plot, great characters, twists and turns, and even a bit of romance. It had it all.
In this installment, psychic Ryley St James, has discovered an underwater graveyard. That in itself creeped me out and made me never want to go swim in a lake again not that I ever did anyway, but this is different for her. These aren't just the bodies of dead women and children. There's more to it and it's personal.
Adler Maddox is a rich dude who is also wanting some answers and wants Ryley to help him get them. In return, he will give her the property she wants so she can build a women's shelter. I wasn't sure what to make of him. The author did a great job of keeping him an enigma. Even after finishing the book, I'm not sure of him. I liked him. There was no way I couldn't, but there was a niggling feeling about him all through the story that kept me on my toes.
I thought I had the mystery all figured out at about the half way point in the book. I was verbalizing my suspicions about who was behind all of this to Walter, my Pug. Of course, I was wrong. My dog gave me the look that said I didn't know what I was talking about. He was right. I was stunned by the whole thing.
This really is a great mystery, but there's so much more to it. I like the psychic flare. I love Ryley and her caustic comments, her flippant attitude, her relationship with Logan Bane and Oscar, and it was a nice switch up to see her vulnerable and actually show some emotion.
I wish there were more character descriptions, but I think I'm in the minority with that these days. I like to see what the characters look like and I would've liked to have seen Adler's "perfect face". It's something I'm still learning to adapt to, since many authors are now leaving out character descriptions. Not sure why, but it is what it is. It didn't affect the reading experience and wasn't enough to take away a star.
Great read. I'm excited to read the next book in the series.
*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
WARNING! There’s a bit of a cliffhangery ending to this one… it definitely leaves you with “Wait! What?” On your lips, and a need to know more!
Set approximately one month after book two, Grave Shelter continues Riley St. James’ story. There are multiple ghostly plots in this one (some of which eventually tie together), as well as some not-so-ghostly ones. We begin with Riley’s discovery of a serial killer’s dumping ground, which leaves a bunch of ghosts behind, and plenty of unanswered questions. Then there is the enigmatic Adler Maddox, an attractive business owner, who seems to know a whole lot more about Riley and the Wilson foundation than he lets on. There is also the mysterious cloud enveloping the mortician’s assistant, and a haunted homeless shelter to deal with, and a couple of new characters that might just have answers that Riley needs (not that she’ll ask of course!).
To sum it all up, Riley has a lot going on, some of it places her in danger, while some of it is giving her an opportunity for romance (slow burn). By the end of the book, however, the author has expertly wrapped up a number of different cases, and left us wanting to know “what next?” It’s fast paced and filled with action, but still takes place over the course of a few months, and even if we are left wondering what happened in Memphis, the book is entertaining enough to keep us wanting more.
An engrossing read recommended for those who love Paranormal Mystery/Suspense with a hint of slow-burn romance.
So far this is by far my favorite of the series. It was nonstop action. More than that, a LOT of previously unanswered questions and issues I had were answered. There's a new love interest and it's one that has lots of secrets, this time revealed! The main storyline revolves around a lot of murdered women our Ryley is set to get justice for; she's in for quite a busy schedule this time around and exciting it all is. In the meantime, we finally get Peter and his darkness sorted which actually brings in some new revelations about a character I had my suspicions about (in a good way!). In the last few books I've noticed there are a lot of people that are like Ryley in some way; I feel like this town is a haven of some sort because it's kind of weird to me how many people have shown up with 'powers' of their own to somehow help our heroine. She needs it with all the nasties roaming around and that they are consequently out to get her! We've got some kissing finally but nothing more than that and again, no cussing etc for those that need to know.
Okay, so I've read the first three books of this series in less than 24 hours. To say I'm sleep deprived might be an understatement. With that said, it should be clear that this series isn't just freaking amazing, but it's off-the-charts addictive and clearly unputdownable, as I said after reading book one. I think each book has just gotten even better than the last, which I wouldn't have thought possible, but the author keeps proving me wrong. Book three - Grave Shelter - was phenomenal. I loved everything about it. I had no idea who did what until the end when it was revealed and I absolutely love that! It wasn't predictable, but it was an extremely satisfying and fun read. I highly recommend this series. Now... I may need a nap before starting book four.
Another great read by Kate Allenton and a new addition to Ryley St. Jame's story.
Ryley, literally, falls into a serial killer's watery burial ground. Of course, given her abilities, she can't avoid being drawn into the case. There are a lot of twists and turns with some of the usual ghostly characters and the acquaintances she uses for assistance in gathering information. Of course, her two antagonists are still there, the Preacher and Sheriff to make her life more complicated. The drama, paranormal events, normal life and addition of a new male character adds to the fast pace and intrigue....a very enjoyable read!
Again, freaked me out. Didn't help that on a scene where my heart was pounding, I was in the dark and I look over and my 9yo daughter was silhouetted in the doorway! I screamed. Yep.
Not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed that a reaper route is happening. I connected so much to this character and now I'm kind of disjointed. Oh well. Still a good series.
I really love these books. Kate Allenton knows how to do character development and create characters that I really love. it can't be easy to build multiple strong characters that carry on into each story. The paranormal gifts the characters have are fun to imagine, and the dialogue between the characters is snarky and fun. just thoroughly enjoying the series. I'll be sad to leave them when the series is done!
Love that it isn't 1 issue spread out. So many crimes. Love it's not bottled down with boring details. Just the right amount. Nothing I disliked except I'm done. Each group that was introduced could have their own story then circle back to Ryle. Anyone reading my review if you bore easy these are the books for you
Grave Shelter is the best book in this series to date! There were lots of details to read through that kept The “Who-dunnit” a secret until the very end. Riley meets someone else who could be a possible love interest in upcoming books. Hopefully, it will all heat up in the next book!
The writing let's your mind wonder about the plot and images of the characters. More details about the things you need in your head to imagine what you are reading. The characters are funny, along the side of some that are scary. This book has some paranormal and pychic aspects. Great 📚 reads.
I’m so glad I found this writer & her wonderful collections of novels. Thank you Kate Allenton for these easy to read books. Great entertainment, characters are full of surprises and plots make the books page turners. I hope you keep writing enjoyable stories. I appreciate a good read
Great paranormal mystery series! Riley sees the dead, and when she’s led to a mass grave, the trouble that ensues just keeps getting worse. The surprise ending has me ready for the next book. Write fast Kate Allenton I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
KA’s books are truly enjoyable and entertaining to read. This was actually the best of the first three in my opinion. Given the ending there may be more in the future. Here’s hoping.
This book was great, Riley finds out secrets about herself. She also finds out who is murdering pregnant women and hiding their bodies in the lake. I hope there will be more of these books.
Love the realistically flawed characters who grow in each book and the development of their stories-the humor and ghosts are icing on the cake! Can’t wait to see what is in store for Ryley and her harem…
The entire series is great! Great cast of characters and interesting storylines. Definitely not the same old tired plots we see so often. Can't wait for the next one.
Another great read in the Lost Souls Society! Twists and turns you won't see coming, and Ryley stays true to form, figuring out who the bad guys are and gathering friends along the way.
3.5 stars I liked this one a lot, but I also had some issues with our badass MC straying into TSTL territory a bit. The main drama is wrapped up but there is a teaser cliff at the very end. I gobbled it up and am ready for more, please.
I can’t get enough of the Lost Souls Society Books. I hope book 4 comes out soon. As always something is alway happening to Ryley . And this book had a big surprise of who the bad guy was at the end.
I wasn’t as sold in the series at the end of book 2. But this was great. Interesting murder mystery. Interesting characters and movement in relationships. And I was surprised which doesn’t happen often
