It's an absolute pleasure to review a Noni the Pony book. Author Alison Lester lives in South Gippsland in regional Victoria and her picture books for kids are in every bookshop, library, school, child care and day care centre in Australia. I look forward to reading this with my niece and nephew just as soon as we can travel freely out of Melbourne Metro.
In Noni the Pony Counts to a Million by Alison Lester, Noni travels around the district with her friends, counting the number of animals, insects, fish, cars and more as they go.
This is a celebration of Australian flora and fauna and the glorious illustrations work well to highlight the delightful rhyming story.
Noni the Pony Counts to a Million by Alison Lester is bound to become another treasured Australian children's classic. Highly recommended for all ages.

This is a great counting book. The animals referred to in the book aren't animals that would be commonly brought into books... for example laughing cows and wallaby pals etc. Great action words, and soft language makes it easy to read aloud. This is great for 1-3 year olds. 5 stars.

NONI THE PONY COUNTS TO A MILLION is a cute, rhyming counting picture book. Noni the pony counts to ten with animals and bugs around her, then noticing hundreds, thousands, and finally millions (of stars).
What I loved: This is a cute and simple counting book that travels from one to ten before demonstrating the concepts of hundreds, thousands, and millions. The rhyming text is fun to read aloud and to listen to as Noni goes about her day counting, and little ones will get into counting along with her. The illustrations are cute with plenty of artistic flair and bright colors that make it fun to check out each scene along the way. This will work well for fans of Noni, particularly toddlers and young preschoolers.
What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the higher concepts of numbers are not so easily demonstrated. For instance, while she watches "thousands of cars," there are only 26 cars shown, which does not quite convey "thousands" to the reader. While older children will understand the concept, this could be confusing for toddlers who take things literally.
Final verdict: NONI THE PONY COUNTS TO A MILLION is a cute, rhyming counting book that will work for fans of the character who will enjoy practicing counting to ten.

Hello, friends! Our book today is Noni the Pony Counts to a Million by Alison Lester, a simple and sweet counting book from the Noni the Pony series.
Starting from a simple count of the numbers one to ten, then expanding to concepts of dozens, hundreds, thousands, and millions, the reader follows Noni the pony and her animal pals as they spend a day taking in the nature around them. Racing cows, meeting wallabies, and playing hide-and-seek with puppies are all wonderful ways to practice counting skills, and as the sun begins to set, they can watch thousands of car headlights and admire millions of stars.
Understated, gentle, and charming. The adorably rounded Noni and her pals are sure to appeal to any young bookworm, being affectionate, cheerful, and full of curiosity. Lester’s rhyming text has an uncomplicated cadence that is easy and fun to read aloud, and the easy transition between core counting skills and more complicated concepts of multiples is one that engages without overwhelming. The length is perfect for a storytime, and JJ loved Noni and her friends, and especially counting each of the multiples of animals in the illustrations. Overall, a great basic to get kids curious and excited about counting, and we absolutely recommend it. Baby Bookworm approved!

Counting comes across as easy and fun in this well-rhymed read with a pony to enjoy.
This is one of several books in the Noni the Pony series...and this is the first of these books I've taken a peek at, but I'll be taking the chance to look at more. Noni the Pony prances through the outdoors, visiting friends and discovering all sorts of things while counting along the way. The illustrations let each scene come across with an enjoyable energy. The various animals, creatures and things (everything from ladybugs to spots on other ponies) hit each scene naturally, making the visual 'counting' present without over-emphasizing. The playful side stays front and center, this way.
The text is written in rhyme and flows extremely well without even a smidgen of hesitation or mini-stumble. It's short...only a phrase or so...and makes a nice read-aloud for even impatient listeners. It's a lovely way to get young readers counting and even goes beyond the usual 1-2-3 to demonstrate how vast hundreds, thousands and millions can seem in comparison.

What fun! I'm reading a classic series from an Australian author, having just ended a Skype session with one of my clients from guess where in the world?
Hint: Like all my clients from that part of the world, whenever we speak, wow! I'm talking with her from my future... on the other side of the International Date Line.
How about another clue this book is Australian? As the counting book progresses, we readers meet "Five wallaby pals." Now that's no sight that I've ever seen, looking out the window, from my pink office in Northern Virginia.
Altogether, this counting is mighty entertaining. Especially wonderful is the easy progression from:
* Dozens
* To hundreds
* To thousands
* To millions
What a great introduction to essential math concepts!
FIVE is the math concept I'll apply right now... to Number of Stars for this Adorable Picture Book.

I received a copy of this book, and I was delighted by the cheeky rhymes and wonderful, colorful illustration. Though it is a number book, there are no numerals in the book which I thought strange at first. However, you will see the number words written in bold throughout the story which helps build that math vocabulary. It is nevertheless a fun read-aloud book to read and children get to broaden their animal vocabulary and add more verbs to their word banks. A great way to develop number sense, vocabulary-building, and a good ear for rhythms and patterns in its lyrical words.

A gentle counting book in rhyme that features Noni the Pony and her pals Dave Dog and Coco the Cat. Appealing artwork in a soothing mid range color palette show the friends gamboling across the Australian countryside. Readers can count the friends, as well as hens, cows, puppies and even wallaby. Pages are uncluttered and simple. The concept of large numbers is rendered as “dozens of spots,” “hundreds of dots,” “thousands of cars,” and “millions of stars.”
The flow kind of peters out after the reader gets to ten. I can’t imagine the book would appeal to anyone over age one.

Noni the Pony is my friend. I am a huge fan, if not Noni's biggest fan and I'll wrestle you over it if I must. Let's find a soft meadow and count the stars.

Numbers story time! This ended up being one of my favorite themes so far this season. This is a fun one because you can just read through it like a regular story, but depending on the attention spans of the kiddos, you can stop and count (almost) everything on the page too. My Thursday crew, unsurprisingly, did NOT have the patience to sit and count, but my Saturday crew really enjoyed it!

A beautifully illustrated counting book. Noni counts her friends, animals she encounters on her travels, cars on the highway and the stars she sleeps under. An absolute joy!

This Australian import follows Noni, a pony, as she counts from 1 to 10, then dozens, hundreds, thousands, and a million. She begins by standing under one tree watching two friends dance by the sea. She gathers companions as she moves from one activity to another, ending up sleeping under millions of stars. The rhyming text flows smoothly from spread to spread as Noni meets other animals on her journey. Not only is this a cute book about counting, but it's an adorable introduction to a variety of animals. Noni, with her big eyes, and her friends are appealing companions on this journey of numbers.
