Robert Kirkman

Не розумію чому я так довго відтягував читання завершальної третьої збірки коміксів «Пісня забуття» від сценариста Роберта Кіркмана та художника Лоренцо де Фелічі, адже, як тільки відкрив видання на першій сторінці, то зупинитися вже не зміг до останньої сцени.

Історія розпочинається трирічним стрибком у часі після подій у попередній другій збірці і швидко підводить нас до майбутнього вторгнення невідомої раси з паралельного світу. Значна частина сюжету на початку присвячена заглибленню в події, що відбувалися протягом минулих трьох років. Оповідь чергується між різними точками зору персонажів, водночас неухильно вибудовуючи загальну історію на задньому плані. Усе це призводить до кульмінаційного конфлікту між загарбницькою силою із Забуття та Землею.

Друга частина збірки розповідає про те, як конфлікт переростає в повномасштабну війну між людством і грізними силами Кутхала, кульмінацією якої стає їхнє зухвале вторгнення в найбільші міста світу, такі як Лос-Анджелес, Париж і Гонконґ. Коли ці знакові мегаполіси стають полем битви, світ спостерігає за ними з трепетом і жахом, сподіваючись на вирішальний поворот подій у цій боротьбі. Доля не лише цих міст, а й усього людського світу висить на волосині, коли розгортається ця напружена баталія.

Усі події в цій збірці супроводжуються масштабними битвами та вражаючою демонстрацією художньої багатогранності Лоренцо де Фелічі. Незважаючи на певну кількість статичних сцен, які додають сюжету глибини, але частково сповільнюють темп, ці моменти врівноважуються гострими емоційними та захопливими екшн сценами. Та й зупинитися, щоб насолодитися малюнком художника — це є додатковим смачним бонусом у цьому випадку.

Аналізуючи усю серію загалом, вважаю, що Роберт Кіркман гарно пропрацював не тільки цей науково-фантастичний світ, але персонажів, надаючи їм глобальні ідеї та переконання, не забуваючи про їхні власні особистості, переживання та проблеми. Він не боїться робити несподівані повороти в середині історії, що можуть перевернути все з ніг на голову. Як це було в другій збірці. І це прекрасно.

Oblivion Song ends on a sweet, somewhat bitter, yet lighthearted tone that I kind of love even if it's a little safe.
What I really loved here was closer to the end we get a flashback scene. Flashbacks sometimes are put just to explain a situation or plot point. But here it's to help the growth of two characters in HUGE ways while also giving context to them in ways I didn't expect. I especially loved this part and it really helped me enjoy the entire story of Oblivion Song even more.
The Alien invasion we were promised happens and I really like how things got settled. Not the typical way, which made it exciting and fun. Also the art seemed to be the best it ever was in this volume.
I will say it feels safe, no big twist, and even with the one big twist it settled back to nahhhh we good. So little let down. But overall I enjoyed the ending and the entire series a lot. Kirkman is the king of endings TBH.

That’s all folks! Overall a very good series. I’m not entirely sold on the art but it grows on you very quickly. There’s certain things I love about it such as Oblivion itself and all of its wonderful life forms. The environmental design is the highlight for me. Wasn’t crazy about the character designs that much and how the characters were drawn but as mentioned I have grown to accept that is part of this comics DNA. Strip everything away and this is a story about brothers. If you have a brother or a sibling you can most likely extrapolate something from this comic that relates to you and your sibling(s) in some form. Give this series a look if you are a fan of Kirkman, like sci-fi, or are just curious.

And it sticks the landing (for the most part)!
Just like book two, I read the whole thing in one/the same sitting. This was a lot of fun.
I love the Kuthaal, especially the ones that allied themselves to the humans. We get to see a lot more of their ways and technology here. Lot's of action. I
There are some 'shortcuts' in the story, that feel like happy coincidences (Leader of the Ghozan Legion), but they manage to move the plot forward. The past between the brothers is explored in a short sequence, which was gut-wrenchingly brilliant.
I think the book (36 issues) has a perfect length and the ending feels satisfying, albeit it a bit predictable.
A fantastic story, that's seemingly under the radar, which is a shame. I can't wait to delve into the next Kirkman story.

The obligatory (and somewhat obliging) conclusion...
Could be that I ran out of steam on the separation between reading this and the first two books, but it also feels like there is just an overriding focus on tidying things up (even if making a minor mess first) and moving on.
Points though for actually moving on, and maybe Kirkman's steam was devoted to a diversion of something new and intriguing.

Y termina siendo genial. Kirkman no falla una. Si The Walking Dead e Invencible son referentes contemporáneos, Oblivion Song no se queda muy atrás. Tal vez por lo breve de la serie o por no haber tenido adaptación a la pequeña o gran pantalla pasó más desapercibido, pero es una lectura amena de lo más recomendable.
Para quienes disfrutamos de la ciencia-ficción ligera, una delicia.

Happy with the way this wrapped up and it does make me feel better about the series as a whole.
This one didn't reach the highs of Kirkman's Invincible for me. I am enjoying the promise of Kirkman's Fire Power more than this one so far - if you liked this Fire Power is worth checking out.

A fantastic and bittersweet conclusion to this excellent series from Kirkman. I truly loved every minute of it.
