Crime Boss Daddies #1

Daddy's Obsession

Rate this book
Maeve had never lived a normal life.
She found it hard to settle down, to trust. So letting him close was likely a big mistake.
When a threat presents itself, she knows she has to protect him.

Gray didn’t let many people close. But when he did, he kept them.
If Maeve thought she could run . . . well, she could just think again.
He was coming for her. She would be his.
And frankly, he didn’t really care what she thought about that.

This book contains a grumpy, caretaker Daddy who isn’t afraid to do what he has to in order to keep his girl safe.

Please be aware of the trigger warning.

Please note: You should be able to read this book without reading any of my other series, but some characters from other books will appear. This book has an overarching storyline that will continue across other books in the series.

Laylah loves reading, but she particularly loves a good romance with some seriously alpha men. Protective, possessive men with large hearts. Writing has become her passion and she hopes her readers enjoy her stories as much as she does writing them.

Did you hear the good news?
Laylah started a new series, called Crime Boss Daddies!
And i got the ARC of the first,Daddy’s Obsession!

The fun part is,you get to see not only new faces, but familiar ones too.
There ís trauma, there ís stalking, but there is also a very protective Daddy…..once he gets his priorities straight.

All Maeve wanted, was to find herself.
Find out who she was, what she wanted to do with her life and, most importantly, find a HOME.
One where she felt safe and loved for the person she was.
Leave her past behind her,not her “family”,never them, but the trauma’s she had after what she’d been through.
All she had now though, was anxiety…about going out, about the building she was currently living in,about people….about everything really.
But she wasn’t planning on that anxiety stopping her,no way!
She was going out and have some fun!
If only that didn’t end up into being dragged into an alley……

Gray was a hard man,and he had his reasons to keep people out.
Except for his boss Markovitch, and his little girl Dahlia….they were the only “family” he had.
Until he saw a girl enjoy herself,on her own,in his club.
She wasn’t dancing, you couldn’t call what she did dancing, but you could see she gave her all,she enjoyed the beat.
There were several men that approached her,but she brushed them all off.
He couldn’t stop watching her until,to his horror,he saw her leave….on her own!
So,he ran down to see if she got into a cab safely…..and found she was dragged into an alley by 3 creeps instead.

Once Gray saved Maeve,he took her home, and seeing where she lived nearly gave him a heart attack.
That wasn’t a good neighborhood,and it sure wasn’t a safe building…..
But he didn’t get attached, now did he?
So why worry about this girl?
If only she wasn’t this cute….and if only he didn’t find her so damn beautiful.

Maeve was grateful Gray took the trouble to save her,and she wanted to do something for him in return.
Being friends with benefits was the only thing he was willing to agree to,so that was what she did.
If only he wasn’t so damn attractive….even if he acted all grumpy and growly.
She knew exactly what he was trying to do,but she’d be damned if she’d let him scare her away!

These two had a past that was not just awful,it was BAD!
And they both dealt with it in their own way.
Gray by becoming a tough guy,a ruthless man, that only dealt with women in a BDSM club, where he coould set the rules and keep it casual.
Maeve by acting kind towards others, being friendly, giving away cookies, and helping others, even if she didn’t get anything in return.
But once they were together,it was so clear they were made for eachother!
Gray would give his life to keep his little girl safe.
And Maeve would do anything to make her Grumpy Bear smile.

It may have been a bit of a slowburn,it may have had trauma, and even a stalker, but it was a wonderful story!
And i enjoyed it from start to finish!

Another winner from Laylah.
Like you’re surprised.
Gray is so grumpy and reluctant, and then he’s 100%, all in for Maeve.
It’s sort of adorable.
And Maeve is the sunshine to his grump. She makes the man whistle for fuck’s sake.
I’m really sad I’ve finished reading it honestly. A very common feeling for me after finishing a Laylah Roberts book.

The plot was dangerous and exciting and each of them helped each other heal in their own ways.
The relationship was really sweet and developed a bit slower than some of the other couples I’ve read from this author. They were basically friends with benefits to begin with and then progressed to being together after Maeve had a couple traumatic experiences that made Gray finally acknowledge his feelings.
The sex also started earlier in this book than in most of Laylah’s past books because of the casual nature of the relationship they began with.
That also means that they didn’t trust each other with their kinks until they truly expressed their feelings. Which I appreciated honestly.

I just really loved how things played out.
I also really loved that we got new characters introduced in this book through Maeve.
I can’t wait to see who’s book will come first from that group, and to what book she comes out with next.
I’m always eagerly awaiting her next release.

Her champion, her protector, her dark demon.

This is a spin-off of a spin-off of a...I've lost track. Just know that we've seen the MMC, Gray, in the past (parts of this story overlap with Boss Daddy). For some reason, it's billed as a new series -- perhaps because we see new characters who will probably get their own books. Since they're musicians (so, not "mafia," not "motorcycle," though, yes, what they do does start with "m"), the future stories may be different; certainly one over-arching mystery that isn't resolved here is introduced.

I feel that I could just copy and paste other reviews, since there's absolutely nothing new here. But, the protective, possessive hero; grumpy-meets-sunshine/Age Play dynamic; erotic scenes; consent; and humor are popular. And Maeve has more resources than previous heroines. I will say that their relationship beginning as FWB is unusual for this series.

I found the book slow, long, repetitious, and crude (the obsessions with going to the bathroom and throwing up were really off-putting); there's one major continuity era regarding Jenner and Sampson's parentage; and I never want to hear the word "girl" again.

3 stars. I always appreciate the author's trigger warnings. I've heard that many authors don't like to include them because they think readers don't like them. Funnily enough, none of those authors sell as many books as this one.

An entertaining read. Lots of side characters, setting up for the rest of the series.
It was a looooong read though and a definite overuse of “girl”. I know the H was a hardened bodyguard to a criminal but “girl” was not a suitable replacement for “kitten or pumpkin” etc

I used to really like these books, but I think the various series morphing into one another as they do makes me feel they've gone on too long. This is compounded by each book getting successively longer and longer - this one could have been half the length and still gotten all of the plot and relationship developments in. There aren't actually that many of them. The basic plot (common to all since a few before the bikie gang books) is that a prattling twit - this one has trouble doing up a seatbelt - meets the world's most honourable and sweet-natured criminal; they instantly fall in love and he saves her from the constant state of frightful peril in which all small-city women in America apparently live. She has various reasons for being maladjusted and he has various reasons for doing unspecified bad things that cause no harm to anyone who isn't also a criminal. About half of each book's length comes from the stream of consciousness in the heroine's head, in which she is constantly saying her thoughts out loud in a way I think is meant to be endearing or funny, but is actually just really annoying. I finished it last night and already find it difficult to distinguish from others before it. Why did I persevere? I'm procrastinating a work assignment. Why do I keep giving them a chance? Because I really enjoyed the first few and keep hoping the author will ditch the thriller stuff and get back to the relationship being the heart of it all. You could do worse for a quick read, though.

Daddy’s Obsession is book one of the all new Crime Boss Daddies series of interconnected standalones. I have read all of Laylah’s books and this is in my top three favorites! Gray is all alpha, grumpy, possessive, and protective! He is Markovich’s right hand man (from MC Daddies series) and he doesn’t let anyone get close to him. Maeve is sassy, quirky, spunky, sweet and she knows just how to get under Gray’s skin. The banter between these to had me laughing out loud and put a smile on my face.

This book has angst, suspense, twists, danger, friendship, and the spice. This is a fast burn story and was hot from the get go! I loved getting cameos from characters from MC Daddies and Montana Daddies…you don’t have to read the other series to read this book but I highly recommend them because they are fantastic!

If this is the standard that we can expect from this new series by Ms. Roberts, then we are in for a real treat. Despite this, I did become frustrated with the slow pace in parts of the storyline. Maeve was naive, sweet, and sassy, and I laughed at her humor and antics. The method she used to soothe herself was unique and a bonus for Gray. Maeve had already suffered so much, but it seemed someone from her past was out to harm her.

I enjoyed learning more about Gray and what made him tick. The glimpse into his past set the tone for his behavior and why he only wanted a relationship with no strings attached. The overwhelming feelings of wanting to protect Maeve were out of character. Gray was new to being a Daddy, but he quickly learned what Maeve needed and was the perfect Daddy for her.

There were some familiar characters and a host of new ones that I'm anxious to learn more about. It took time for me to get lost in this book, but once I did, it was pure magic. It ticked all the right boxes with a touch of everything, including humor, danger, a mischievous little, and a overprotective Daddy.

I really did enjoy this book. I absolutely loved Mauve and her personality, she really was a really funny little. However As much i as really liked Gray i found that for a Daddy Dom he was a bit slow but once he got the hang of it he was great.
This is a slow burn story and even though i really enjoyed it i was frustrated at the pace the story went.
However overall i have given it five stars because i loved it and because Laylah Roberts really is an exceptional author and her books are so good.

Girl………… Nope just not for me

I’ve read my fair share of kink books and honestly to each their own whatever floats your boat is all good. This one just wasn’t for me I should have checked out when Gray started asking for Maeve’s diaper size but I kept going anyway. Maeve is pure sunshine and she’s almost so naive you wonder if she’s actually in the right state of mind to even have an adult relationship with Gray. The story itself isn’t bad but the whole Daddy/little relationship just isn’t for me.

Wonderful read and a great story, amazing characters and tantalising storyline

Maeve has been trying to live her life by herself checking in with her family of friends that have been so much as children it has enforced them into a family that is strong and that stick by each other no matter what.

Gray was at his boss’s club when he saw her dancing all by herself in a gold dress and purple shoes and he had been so drawn to her, as he went to see that she had left the club closely he found her being attacked by three men who he had beaten the hell out of.

After he had taken Maeve’s home, he had been surprised that she had stayed with him for days, he simply had not been able to forget about “His Girl”. When they met again at the club and it is obvious to them both that they are attracted to each other and decide that they are going to “Scratch the Itch” with no strings attached.

Maeve starts to have s strange feeling that she is being watched and then someone leaves flowers with no card and as usual she does no want to contact her family for help so he simply locks herself in her room and won’t leave.

Maeve’s suspicion is right and she is attacked and manages to get away by fighting for her life and the she manages to run with her best friend Squish and her purse which allowed her to get to her family after several days of travel across America. When she reaches her families house she is in a bad way and barely lucid.

Gray returns to Maeve to see how she is after he failed to answer her one and only phone call, it had gone to voice mail and his girl has gone and he knows that he has made a major mistake, he has got to get his girl back in his arms and tell her how he truly feels about her.

Maeve turns up at singer Jenner’s house which is where he discovers all the security is missing and that the surveillance cameras have all be turned off along with the security lights and then he spots someone running from the pool and decides to investigate, thank god he had not decided to chase the individual.

Maeve wakes up in hospital and knows that something traumatic has happened however she can only thing of water and the fact that her Stalker managed to tract her down so easily. Then she see’s the man that has been on her mind since she had deserted whilst trying to outrun her attacker sitting by her bed, Gray and he looks absolutely exhausted.

AS Maeve and Gray go to stay at her family home for a couple of days and he is voted in as family he also is shocked to discover that Alejandro and Cat who known by both him and his boss and he realises there is a lot more to Maeve’s life than he ever imagined.

He has told both her and her family how he feels about her and that he is going to take her to his boss’s compound where Markovich and his Little Dahlia lived and Gray helped ensure their safety, they were in fact his family and over the years had taken care of him.

This is a truly wonderful read and I guarantee that you will not be able to put this amazing read down until you reach the final page and discover the outcome.

I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.

This is the beginning of a new series for Laylah Roberts and I enjoyed it a lot. Gray's boss is Markovich, who we know from Boss Daddy MC. Maeve is probably one of my favorite Littles. She's just what Gray needs in his dark and grumpy life! I enjoyed watching the relationship build between them and even though is was slower than other of Ms. Roberts books, it was still a wonderful book. It was nice seeing familiar characters from previous stories and seeing new characters who I'm hoping will be getting their stories in the future!! All in all, this is a great book and I'll be eagerly waiting for the next book!!

I loved how Gray called Maeve “girl” and how this came to be his term of endearment for her. I absolutely loved Maeve’s dialogue throughout the entire story as it made me laugh out loud a lot. I think this story has the best written dialogue for a Little of any I have read so far. You can’t help but love both Maeve and Gray and the strong bond they have formed. With Maeve in danger, Gray goes full into full protection mode which will not end well for her stalker. This is an excellent story that is worth reading, wish I could rate higher than a 5.

'Daddy's Obsession' is the first book in Laylah Roberts' new series "Crime Boss Daddies" and, to be honest, I couldn't be more thrilled with it. I have thoroughly enjoyed the antics and sense of humor of Maeve so much that I had tears in my eyes from giggling so much. Then there were the serious, emotional parts that truly touched my heart. I've read a few of Ms. Roberts' books and have always enjoyed them so if this is a representation of what to expect from this new series, count me in.

This book is part of Laylahs new crime daddy series. This is about Gray and Maeve. Gray is super protective, grumpy daddy, who only wants to protect Maeve and love her, Maeve and Gray relationship started out a little different and then became this really good daddy and little relationship! Loved Gray and Maeve!

Loved the grumpy grouchy Gray. Maeve was his exact opposite. Sweet, kind and very funny. Loved how their relationship developed. Exciting danger. I also enjoyed the dynamics of Maeve's "family". Hopefully we will see more of them. Daddy's Obsession by Laylah Roberts was pure perfection. Kudos!

This book was a little slower than most others I've read by this author. It took awhile for the characters to get together and even longer for the Daddy kink to come into play. There was a mystery aspect to the storyline, also. 3½ stars.

This book was a solid four. If you like the grumpy/sunshine trope with light Age-Play then you will love this book. Laylah does grumpy/sunshine better than most contemporary authors today. This story may feel very familiar to a couple of her other books but it is like slipping on a comfortable pair of shoes. In addition, Ms. Roberts writes side characters so well that you as the reader feel like you need to know their stories as well and she does not disappoint in her new series.

I got to 84% before calling it quits. Their dynamic bothered me some. And I’m pretty sure this is the one where he calls her “girl” like wayyy too much. Like do you not know another pet name or do you just not care enough to think of another one outside of girl? It was annoying lol.

4.5/5⭐️

Gray is a total grump and Maeve sees the best in everyone, even him. He knows he’s not boyfriend material and can’t commit to more so instead they become f-buddies. Although Maeve wants more, she thinks Gray can do better than her so she doesn’t push him and accepts what he has to offer. When trouble finds her she has no choice but to run, reluctantly leaving him behind. But he’s not about to let the best thing that’s happened to him slip through his fingers. Will he be too late though?

I loved how different Gray is to the other daddies we see Laylah write. He’s not as soft to his little and I love that. Maeve is a total sweetheart and I love how hard she fights for herself when trouble comes. Cannot wait to see where the rest of this series goes! Also loved hearing more about Cat’s history!!

Daddy’s Obsession is the first installment in Laylah Roberts’ Crime Boss Daddies series. In this book, Ms. Roberts focuses on the age-play romance between Maeve and Gray. Maeve, despite the negative influences in her life, remains innocent. To survive she locks her Little away until Gray, the mobster, helps her release it through love, support, and protection. Both Maeve and Gray are multi-dimensional lead characters, who fight their insecurities to find happiness. I enjoy the way Ms. Roberts builds connections to characters from two other series, Montana Daddies and MC Daddies. Readers met Gray and his boss, Drew Markovich, in a few of the books in these series. In this new series, these secondary characters take the lead. Ms. Roberts does a superb job with characterization. The males are alpha males who are not diminished by showing a softer side when it comes to the women they love. The women are strong and independent while craving the protection and caring of their dominant counterpart. The unique dynamic between the DD and the Lg is adorable. I appreciate Ms. Roberts use of descriptive language. As I immerse myself into this book, I found myself smiling and laughing. I like how she interjects suspense with her antagonists. In this case, Jason Saulson, who is stalks Maeve. I enjoy Ms. Roberts’ writing style. Is it any wonder why readers get addicted to her series? As a fan of Laylah Roberts, I am looking forward to reading other books in this series.

I ended up reading this because I thought it was an age gap situation, and didn’t know what Daddy doms and littles were 🙃🫠 I found the more intense Little energy just wasn’t my vibe. It made me uncomfortable and I DNF at 81%.

Buuuuut this is a decent book. It was a written well 3rd person POV, but seeing characters from other books with random references (while having no context) made it hard to enjoy the backup characters. I did appreciate the many sweet moments where Gray really took care of Maeve. He was a cinnamon roll mafia man. Those parts were cute.

Yeah, I couldn’t read anymore though. I get the subculture but it just wasn’t enjoyable at all for me. 😅

A slower burn story but no less interesting. Gray is the right-hand to crime boss Markovich and as such, has a reputation and a code of conduct he adheres to. But something about the gold-dressed woman who dances like no one is watching appeals. And from their very first meeting to the last interaction, he experiences a revelation of emotions and desires. Maeve's story about her past tears at the heart.

finished out of spite. love the dd/lg dynamic and i’ve enjoyed other books by the author but this daddy was terribleeeee. i loved the fmc and she was the only reason i stayed, but the mmc constantly calling her “girl” as her nickname was so off putting i had to force myself to ignore it. wouldn’t recommend at all! plot would have been decent otherwise but i found myself almost not caring and just wanting to finish it so i could say i did.

Daddy's Obsession is the first novel in the new Crime Boss Daddies series by Laylah Roberts, and is lengthier than many of her other novels, but once again, Ms. Roberts has peopled it with great characters, some new and some familiar, and, as always a new, sexy, hero Daddy Dom, Gray Hawkins, to fall in love in love with, and a sassy Little, Maeve, whose dialogue repeatedly made me laugh out out loud. This was a 5-star read.

Gray is second in command to and a bodyguard for Markovich, a crime boss we've already met in a previous novel. Gray is as grumpy, grunting, possessive and protective as it gets, and after watching Maeve and her strange dancing style at Markovich's club, The Edge, she leaves alone and is dragged into an alley by three would-be rapists and is attempting to fend them off when Gray comes to her rescue. While she doesn't show her Little to Gray immediately, her silly names for her attackers and snarky and hilarious remarks to them give her away. Gray cleans her up and sees her home, mostly grunting at her and telling her how foolish she was to be at a club late at night, tipsy, and alone. Although she gives him her name, he calls her "girl" throughout most of the novel--I found it annoying at first, but it did become a term of endearment as the story progressed.

When Maeve shows up at the club again a week later, the sparks start to fly when Gray takes her up to the well-protected and private VIP section, where these two act on their attraction, and agree to one-time, no-strings sex, when Gray is interrupted by a call from his boss, but first, escorts Maeve home, and this time, gets her phone number, because their story is just beginning, and if you're new to Laylah Roberts novels, prepare for a good dose of sizzling heat, a good dose of humor, and plenty of danger from a murderous mystery stalker.

Of the Laylah Roberts novels I've read thus far (I've been binge-reading many of her previous series for the past 5 months), I'd rate this as one of her best yet. It had all the steam, humor, character development, sass, angst, quirkiness, and danger I've come to expect, and each of the secondary characters, Maeve's unofficial family of Littles and Daddies alike, were well-drawn, and I can't wait to see which of these characters she'll feature in her upcoming novels in this series. If you're new to this author, Daddy's Obsession is a great place to start, and I recommend it.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.

Daddy's Obsession by Laylah Roberts

Laylah Roberts has done it again with "Daddy's Obsession," delivering a gripping, heartfelt, and utterly captivating romance that I couldn’t put down! From the moment I started reading, I was completely engrossed in the intense and complex relationship between Maeve and Gray. Roberts expertly weaves together themes of trust, protection, and deep emotional connection, creating a story that is both tender and thrilling.

Maeve is a beautifully flawed character. Her struggle to settle down and trust is portrayed with raw authenticity, making her journey towards opening up to Gray deeply moving. Her past has left her wary and independent, and her instincts to protect those she cares about are both heartbreaking and admirable. Watching her navigate her feelings for Gray, while also trying to keep him at arm’s length, added a rich layer of tension to the story.

Gray, the grumpy yet devoted Daddy, is everything you could want in a protective alpha hero. His determination to claim Maeve and keep her safe, no matter the cost, is both swoon-worthy and terrifying in the best possible way. Roberts has crafted a character who is unyielding in his love and protection, yet surprisingly gentle when it comes to Maeve's vulnerabilities. The way he understands her fears and responds with patience and unrelenting care makes their connection feel genuine and unbreakable.

The plot is laced with suspense, particularly as the threat to Maeve and Gray's safety looms larger. Roberts keeps you on the edge of your seat, blending the steamy romance with heart-pounding moments of danger. The overarching storyline that ties into other books in the series adds an extra layer of excitement for fans, though newcomers can still dive in without feeling lost.

"Daddy's Obsession" is more than just a romance; it's a story of healing, trust, and unconditional love. Roberts doesn’t shy away from darker themes, so be mindful of the trigger warnings, but for those who love a protective Daddy Dom who will go to any lengths to keep his girl safe, this book is an absolute must-read.

I can’t wait to see where Roberts takes this series next!

4.5 Stars!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

I really enjoyed this story! It had me hooked from the start. I loved both the main characters and their dynamic. The grumpy alpha male paired with the quirky sunshine Little. I always eat that opposite attracts shit right up, yummo!

And OMG Gray was so sexy!! 🥵🫠

Their first interactions had me giggling at their back and forth. This story was funnier and sillier than I was expecting and after just reading a dark romance before this, it was a nice change of pace.

Spice was super hot too, didn’t take ages to happen and we got a good bit of it throughout the book, enough to satisfy 🤭 4/5 🌶️ I would have rated higher if it had been written a bit more explicitly, the dirtier the better!

Only criticism was sometimes I felt like I was staring a book in the middle of a series and not the start. There were mentions of sooo many other characters I’d never heard of but they were talked about as if we should already know their background. I had to check her other stories and they had never been in other stories before.

How was I meant to remember who Jenner, Immy, Abe, Isiah, Andy, James, Sam, and I might have missed someone, where? It was too many characters just dropped into the story at once. And in the middle of the book when there’s a change of location and we meet them, there where absolutely no descriptions for all these characters except Sam was big and Immy had red hair.
I couldn’t picture any of them in my head as I read, they were just blank faced ghosts with not even different personalities to distinguish them from one another and it drove me nuts!
It dragged out the story for me and all I wanted was for them to go away lol

But when we did move on the story picked up and there were cute and sexy moments again.
I would love to read another book with these two as leads and continue their story but I’m guessing this is the only one 😩

For my first story by Laylah Roberts, I think it was a great one to start on!! Thinking of going back and reading Motorcycle Daddies next!

Daddy's Obsession jump-starts a new Crime Boss Daddies series by Laylah. Gray had appeared in several of her previous novels, but you do not have to have read those to read this one. (HOWEVER, they are all fantastic and absolutely with the read.) Also, this book did come with several triggered warnings which transpired in the past ( bullying, cult and abuse of women and girls (and to find extent the boys also), and stalking that happened in present times of the story. The details of the triggering activity is not in depth, only what needs to be said to further the storyline.

Gray was a slow burn for me. However... HOW THE EVA, once he got rolling...I absolutely loved him. Maeve is absolutely bonkers🤣. She has this tenacity that even she doesn't quite see, but that also has some negative effects on her as well. I get chills just imagining Gray growl "girl" at Maeve. *Swoon ❣️. I loved their chemistry. I love the call backs, the possible hints and the non-cliffhanger, cliffhangers🤣. (Meaning the introduction of new characters who have what could be interesting tales to tell has us foaming at the mouth to see what happens next.)

I wouldn't say this is a dislike.... More of a it doesn't read right in my head.... But Gray 's position is as #2 but reading it he feels more like I high ranking henchman, you know? Maybe 2#s are more hands on than I would think in a criminal organization? 🤷🏾‍♀️ Lol I'm likely just trying to put to much of my limits understand of reality into it though 🤦🏾‍♀️.

I would absolutely recommend this book.

Laylah Roberts’ new series, ‘Crime Boss Daddies’ starts off with “Daddy’s Obsession”, which is neatly connected to the previous MC series. Although the connection is solid and smooth, you need not have read anything prior to this book to understand and enjoy it. In case you didn’t realize it from the title, this is a DD/lg story.

Gray is a character we met in the previous series, as the right-hand man and bodyguard to a crime boss. He’s perpetually serious and grouchy. When sweet and sunshine-y Maeve comes into his life, he can’t quite understand the appeal she has to him. Gray and Maeve couldn’t be more different, yet they do have things in common, such as huge trust issues. Maeve is an unusual combination of worldly and naïve, and when her background is revealed that makes more sense than it does initially. They actually start off with a ‘friends with benefits’ situation, which I don’t recall having read before in these types of books.

The story is OK, although it’s slow in places. There are a lot of secondary characters, especially the friends that make up Maevc’s ‘family’. I suspect we’ll be seeing them again in future books. I didn’t care for the nickname Gray had for Maeve, and even found it to be harsh at times. I did like the way Gray went enthusiastically all-in on his feelings for her once he finally accepted them. A couple of things confused me as more of the story was revealed, such as why Maeve was scraping by the way she was when she had other options. I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone, because it’s not bad, it’s just a bit uneven in my opinion. There were some very funny moments as well, and some emotional ones.
