Special Kind of Twisted

Rate this book
He had a way of pulling everyone into his darkness. Then, to make matters worse, he convinced you that you liked it there.
Kyle Davis—ex professional baseball player and current felon—loved Sara, his best friend. Strictly platonically, of course. He’d do absolutely anything for her, even put up with Greer, Sara’s other best friend.
What she was not was Kyle’s best friend. Or any friend at all, to be honest.
In fact, they couldn’t stand to be in the same room with each other, let alone breathe the same air for any length of time.
Then something happens, forcing the two of them to work together to keep Sara blissfully unaware of the danger Greer’s in.
They come up with a plan. Sara doesn’t need to know.
What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
The funny thing is, Sara knows all. Sara also knows the two of them are destined to be with each other.
She only has to convince them of it first.

I've been very interested in learning more about Kyle Davis for what seems like forever and I'm so glad I finally got my hands on his story! He's so busy protecting everyone else, I wanted to see him get a bit of that security himself. And I can't imagine a better life partner for him than Greer.

At first glance, they seemed like oil and water. Aside from sharing a best friend in Sara, they had nothing in common.

A ton of stolen glances and moments later, Greer seems to be in danger and Kyle's protective instincts kick in for someone who he always believed was his enemy. I loved the forced proximity aspect of this story and how it made these two finally acknowledge how deeply they cared for each other. I also absolutely adored how them becoming something more than frenemies didn't detract from what they had already built as a relationship. Just because she was his girlfriend didn't make her immune to pranks and deliberate attempts to stir up her temper.

I'm in love with the way the characters in this series love each other. And although Greer was new to the circle, she fit in just right and I was so excited for these fictional people.

I don't know who the next story in the series is about. I'm determined to enter each book as blindly as possible. It's been a great strategy so far, however, if it's not about Sara and the delicious sheriff, Sunny... could it be about the mysterious Folsom and the equally mysterious Kobe? I'll definitely be staying tuned to find out!

I really loved this author's earlier series, but sorry to say that the last two series have not been my favorites.
A favorite trope is in this one....enemies to lovers.
Let's hope that the next series will be a better one for me.
I don't remember this heroine's parents as being in the Dixie Wardens....they could have been side characters.

When I pick up a Lani Lynn Vale book, I feel this sense of comfort that whatever I’m gonna read is going to be entertaining. It’s an odd contrast of knowing what you’re gonna get, mixed in with an unknown: a fun story that stays on your mind way after it’s done and a plot that is likely to contain some over the top, imaginative elements.

I loved Greer and KD. While they clearly didn’t get along outside the bedroom, inside of it they were explosive 🧨… in the best ways, of course. I love when that angst and animosity is transformed into passion. The chemistry pops off the pages. The plot had its level of seriousness but it also had humor, which I appreciate. This is definitely a great addition to the series and the LLV library of titles. I am legit in awe of how regularly this author puts out books and how good each one is! Can’t wait for the next one.

Oh Greer and Davis were amazing! I loved the unexpected twist that were in this book. I won’t give details but boy let me tell you that ending. Wow! Never saw that coming a million miles away! I loved the dislike to love them a lot and Greer have as good as she got and I loved that. The bather with these two was amazing and loved the minor characters in the rules that they played, (the birds too!). Overall, this book had me hooked! Now! I need Folsom to finally get her book because I love that woman and can’t wait! 4.5 stars #2OCCJD

special kind of twistedMeet Greer and KD in Special Kind of Twisted! I feel like we have heard almost nothing about these two so I was going in kind of blind for this one! These two are enemies with a common best friend, so they are kind of forced together frequently.

KD (AKA Davis, AKA Kyle Davis) and Greer have great banter. One thing I love about enemies to lovers is the banter is usually on point! Plus, these two have great chemistry as well. It really is a thin line between love and hate with these two. But Davis steps in right away when Greer has a problem and it is very sexy! Honestly, it took me a bit to warm up to Davis, because sometimes his teasing was verging on mean. At least, it felt kinda mean to me. Greer is sassy and tough, so it is not like she just sits back and takes it. Greer's profession is certainly interesting as well!

Overall, their story was just awesome! If you like the banter that hides the secret lust, Special Kind of Twisted is perfect! You don't really have to read all the previous books to enjoy this one, so if this sounds like your kind of book, grab it!

Ummm.

So, I think this is the perfect title for Greer & Davis. I mean, not so much them as their book. There's a lot of convoluted story telling here, a lot of it doesn't make much sense, and I'm seriously confused as to WTH happened.

Why did these two have such a dislike for each other? No idea. Actually, did they ever really dislike each other or was it just teenage jealousy over sharing their bestie? Idk, but it's confusing. There's some family stuff & a suspense portion that made zero sense to me. There's a random fishing trip where Greer is injured and then the injury just kind of disappears. There are a few scenes that seem sprinkled in for an unknown purpose... I just don't get it.

Now, I know all of that sounds bad, but I'm rating this 4 stars! What kind of twisted logic is that? (See what I did there? 😉)

Well, the thing is, even though I was grossed out by a few things and confused by a few more, I really, REALLY liked Greer & Davis. I ENJOYED their story. I love the way they are with each other, with Sara, with the Davis family & the MC family. I love seeing more of Sunny, Kobe, Folsom, etc. I love the quirky birds & Greer's job.

At the end of the day, this story entertained me, and I enjoyed it overall. I'm not going to ignore the things that made me 🤔, but if I was entertained, I imagine others will be as well!

It's a fine line between love and hate

The banter and zinging one liners between Greer and Davis are hilarious, their hate borders on ridiculous, but their love is undeniable.
Davis has been a huge part of this series but we never knew his story, it is horrifying and heartbreaking, but it is no wonder that despite him going to jail, the country views him as a hero. Even after serving his sentence he is still fighting the guilt, the guilt of being the one to introduce his sister to her attacker, the guilt of not being there when she needed him most because he was in jail, the guilt that no matter how much money he has he cannot fix Cassie, heal her injuries or fight her demons for her. He may not see it but Davis is a good man who will stop at nothing to protect those who are important to him and even before he realised it ..Greer was important to him and he was already protecting her.
Their relationship is never going to be smooth sailing, they thrive on snark, sass and angry sex, but hate can very definitely become soul deep, all consuming love.

I really wasn't sure about this one at the start, KD and Greer seemed to hate each other and purposely push each others buttons. Not sure that I could get behind them as a couple. Slowly I was able to as each one was able to see why there were things that bothered the other and that knowing that reason made sense. I especially loved that Greer treated KD's sister very normal. It was fun to see them go form just this once to all the time and even want things to be more than hate sex.

Things got very crazy and convoluted towards the end. I was glad things were cleaned up for Greer and the two of them could just get on with their lives.

Full of angsty banter this story just grabs you and won’t let go.

Greer and Davis have been at each other’s throats for years. For the sake of there best friend Sara they tolerate each other.

“Fancy Pants.”

“Shut up,” I grumbled. “I really hate when you call me that name.”

When something happens to her boss he’s right there to protect her. Hate turns into something else.

The older we got, and the more she grew into herself, the more I looked.

“My eyes are up here, Fancy Pants,” he teased.

I’m so in love with all these crazy quirky characters. I just can’t get enough.

KD (Kyle Davis, not Kevin Durant 😉) and Greer Ortiz cannot stand each other. Ever since they realized their mutual best friend Sara had two best friends, they've decided they don't like each other. This means they've been taking jabs at each other since high school, have harbored not so friendly feelings for each other for years. But is it at all possible that contempt was just masking attraction, and perhaps more? When KD steps in after Greer finds herself in the thick of it, they have a chance to test this theory out. The results are FIRE!

Whee!! I love the Gator Bait crew! They're all so quirky and literally laugh out loud hilarious, with hot af chemistry, and there's always a lot of action to keep the storyline moving. Enemies to lovers is always fun, when it's LLV writing it, you know it's gonna be good, and Special Kind of Twisted is definitely good. Greer is sassy, feisty and tough, and doesn't let Davis get to her (too much). Davis, like all the men of the Gator Bait world, is alpha protective and when he falls, he falls hard. Let's not forget the secondary cast, though, because I've got my eye on Sunny especially and am waiting impatiently for his story. I'm not sure it's the last one in this series, I'll Just Date Myself, or if it's coming at all, but I definitely hope so.

Enemies to lovers and friends lovers are two of my absolute favourite troupes. Obviously when done right. Lani killed it with Greer and Davis. That didn't surprise me obviously but still.. I freaking loved them.

Greer when around Davis appears to be super uptight and feisty to the point of being bitchy. Yet that's not who she is it's just that Davis truly rubs her the wrong way. You know that fine line between love and hate.. well she's on it with him avoiding the attraction, frustrated at his teasing and arrogance and wanting to throttle him whist admiring his delectable body and red beard. She's very sweet and caring and her life has been so difficult its a wonder she is as put together as she is.

Davis is a cocky arrogant tease to who lives to piss of Greer. It's funny but also a little mean. Especially when you realise they both share a best friend that they don't want to share. But of course there is so much more to Davis than he first shows. He loves his family hard, he's protective, he's generous and despite the way he shows it.. still goes out of his way to make sure Greer is safe. I actually really loved Davis and found his teasing and one liners to Greer, hilarious.

These pair had me cracked up. The chemistry was obvious from the beginning but the bickering and banter is what kept me so freaking hooked. I loved the dry sarcastic wit. I loved watching them realise they maybe actually kind of cared for one another. It was a freaking journey that it for sure.

As per, Lani brings a slew of side characters that are the gift that kept giving. The biggest one being her mom. Shook. I love the easy relationships between that characters. I especially loved that Sara was the glue between Greer and Davis for the longest time. It was sweet.

This was despite all the crazy is one of my favs. It had me all in my feelings waiting in anticipation for what was to come. I laughed, Swooned and cheered them on as well as ranted and raved at the crazy between the characters. Those freaking birds need a book of their own because I could not breath for laughing so damn hard at them and the Tok/bible quotes. HILARIOUS.

I'm super excited for the next one!!. Davis and Greer are up there for me but I'm going to reserve the right to pick favourites until the series is finished.

Kyle “KD” Davis and Greer are not friends. They don’t even pretend to be most of the time. What they are is best friends with Sara. So when Sara follows KD to Accident, Floridia then Greer follows Sara. It’s actually pretty funny how much these two “hate” one another. You know that very thin line between love and hate. The sparks fly off the page even when they are arguing.

KD is in the security business and after what happened with his sister and his prison stay you will understand why. Let me say that I loved both his sister and his brother. They were wonderful characters and regardless what happened within their family they all still treat each other the way siblings do. Whether they are worried or not there is not halfways with them.

While Greer is a taxidermist. You read that correctly and I love that job for her. She is great at it and it figures in well to the storyline. Greer also has birds and let me tell you they steal the scene each and every time they are in one. They are simply two of the greatest pets ever! Let me tell y’all that Lani Lynn Vale writes animals well and while Radar will always be my favorite these two birds are right after him.

When it becomes clear that Greer could be in danger KD wastes no time in stepping in to help keep her safe. It’s what he does is an excuse to stay close to her. Then when they decide to just give in to their baser desires they burn the pages up. I love it when they stay the same. They still treat one another as they did with their arguing and bickering. They don’t suddenly fall in love and treat each other differently. Greer still has an opinion about everything while KD still loves to rile her up.

We of course get the Gator Bait guys and gals as well as a few new people. Sunny is once again in the picture only now we begin to learn a little more about him and his connection to Sara. Katdy the nurse is great as well and the fact that KD's brother calls her Nurse Ratchet just made my day.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.  This review was originally posted on Storied Conversation

So this was KD (Kyle Davis) and Greers book. And it was enemies to lovers!!! So the backstory on this is that KD and Greer both have a mutual friend Sara so they end up seeing each other a lot but they hate each other. But when bad things start happening to Greer, Aka her boss getting murdered and people breaking into her house, KD realizes the truth in the saying “ there’s a fine line between love and hate”They both realize that they like each other and give it a shot, both of their feelings growing monumentally.

I loved how crazy KD was for Greer like even in the begging when he supossedly ‘hated’ her you could tell he got it bad. He was always watching her and asking about her, making sure she was ok and safe. So obviously when she wasn’t safe he went berserk. And Greer was also a super fun character. She was more calmer than some of the other heroines in this series but she definitely has a temper and won’t be pushed around

They fit really well with each other, and I loved how fighting and teasing each other is a big part of their relationship

The only things I didn’t really like were the whole thing with Sarah getting abused when she was a teenager and not telling them, because that seems like a really really big secret to keep from you suposed best friends. And the whole thing with her mom was also super sudden, like I needed at least another chapter to explain that she was actually good. Because the whole book she’s bad but then in the last 10 pages she’s good, like it was a complete 180.

Overall great great book, and I can’t believe the next one is the last in the series. But I can’t wait to read about Kobe because a lot of his stuff has been a mystery this whole time.

4.7/🛡️🐿️⛓️‍💥🦜💊

They have not been friends since highschool . . . when they realized they were both best friends to Sara, but hated one another. They are so not friends, they don’t even really try to play nice around one another, constantly needling and pranking each other, But, when Greer Ortiz finds herself in danger, Kyle Davis finds himself feeling very protective. And, they both suddenly find that the line between love and hate is much thinner than they thought!

Greer and Davis were just too much fun. The constant verbal sparring and petty pranks were hilarious. And, all that hate for all those years led to some incredibly hot moments between them when they realized they couldn’t keep their hands off of one another. And, then it becomes even more!

I loved getting their back stories. I adored that we saw more of Sheriff Sonny. Bryan and Bo Seefus were something else and I am giddy at the thought of getting Kobe and Folsom’s story even if it does mean the series is almost at an end . . .because, this series has really been phenomenal!

This plot was twisted, just like the title said! I had no idea what was coming, and it was pretty awesome to watch it play out. And, that ending! 5 stars for Greer, David and the rest of the gang.

Special Kind of Twisted by Lani Lynn Vale
Gator Bait MC #6

Damn I think Greer and Davis have just taken top spot for my fav couple in the Gator Bait series. These two have a banter that’s hilarious and almost relatable but the connection they share is full proof.

Greer is a loyal person who absolutely loves her best friend, to the point that she has ‘put up with’ her best friends best friend since they met. She has been through a bit and has some problems with her mum but she’s a strong person who might seem like she doesn’t like you in the beginning but she just needs to get to know you first.

Kyle Davis was a pro baseball player until defending his sister meant spending a couple years in jail, but he wouldn’t Chance what happened ever. So now he’s out his business as a bodyguard is thriving but he never expects his best friends best friend to run in to his office needing his help, but whilst helping her, it’s the perfect opportunity for them to figure out their differences.

I absolutely loved this book and the series if your looking for a fun book with banter back and forth this one’s for you.

I was lucky enough to receive and ARC copy of Special Kind of Twisted and for that I am very grateful.

Last LLV book I will purchase!

I'm only at 38% of the book but I can tell you this is the last LLV book I will purchase. I understand that all people deserve to be loved no matter what. I really do get the lid for every pot scenario. I am just so tired of reading in EVERY book about heroines who are "different." What happened to ordinary everyday women who wanted and found love even with small boobs and junk in their trunk. How long has it been since LLV wrote a book about a normal woman. At this point I feel guilty because I'm relatively "normal." I feel sorry for the hero once he hooks up with his woman because of all of her weird baggage.

I liked when she dealt with Tourettes and Aspergers. One severe introvert I could handle. At this point though reading to escape isn't enjoyable any more. It's just painful. I don't read to be hounded about my political correctness. I just want to enjoy it and NOT CRINGE!!!

PLEASE go back to writing what made you an automatic buy for me. I miss that; I really, really miss that. Diversity is great but it's at the freak level now. I miss Cheyenne and Peyton...the originals.

This is the absolute last LLV book I'll buy. I plan to wait for about a year and maybe try again.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

A frenemy romance that I read very quickly

The summary for this book was quite obscure so I was curious to read this book but I must admit that even if it was a nice romance, it is not my favorite book because I didn't get too attached on the characters and I would have liked a little more twisted / developed plot (that's what I loved in the old books by LLV and that's what I miss in the most recent ones ! )

Special mention for Sunny who finds love =)

In short, a romance pleasant to read even if nothing more !

Special Kind of Twisted is the sixth book in the Gator Bait MC series by Lani Lynn Vale. We finally get KD's story! Woohoo! It's a fun, sexy, hilarious enemies-to-lovers story. Kyle Davis or KD or Davis as Greer calls him, was a professional baseball player who did something to protect his sister and landed him in jail. He's been out for a while and now runs a bodyguard company. Greer is his best friend, Sara's other best friend. They have hated each other for years. Always arguing, pranking, and just being jerky. But you know what they say about love and hate. They are on a very fine line. It's like all of a sudden, they notice each other. Only to realize it wasn't sudden at all. When Greer needs a safe place to stay, Davis takes her in. One night in the same bed changes their relationship. They can have some fun and then it will be over. Except it's too fun and too right. And then they want to really try. They just have to navigate all the other relationships in their life, the danger and see if they can stop hating each other long enough to fall in love. I really enjoyed this story! It's one of my favorites of the series!

There's slow burn romance, and then there's Lani Lynn Vale's version of slow burn romance. I mean, 10+ years of life does seem like a long, long road to togetherness, but for Greer Ortiz and Kyle Davis it happens to be just how long they need to realize that they're just right for each other, even though their other best friend, Sara, could've told them waaay before now.

As is usual with any of Lani's books, there is so much going on that you'd best not let your mind wander, or you'll be lost. Hijinks, shenanigans, possible criminal activity, SPECIAL KIND OF TWISTED has it all. There is also, though, the typical lifelong friendships, unlikely love matches, and twists and turns enough to keep you guessing until the last page. In other words, another awesome adventure, and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. If you haven't yet, jump on the Gator Bait MC train, and get cracking, because there's one story left, and it's sure to be a good one. Dive in, get comfy, and enjoy the ride!❤️

Continually obsessed with LLV and her books – especially this series! Davis was a rising star in the baseball world, but all that came crashing down when his teammate and friend attacks his sister and, in his retaliation, it changes his life forever. Getting out of prison, he relocates in order to distance himself from the past while also taking care of his siblings as he did before, and his best friend decides to follow his move, and her other best friend Greer takes the leap too. Davis and Greer have never gotten along, the tone of fear from one taking their best friend from the other really makes them rivals. But when Greer is put in danger due to the murder of her boss, and we get to know more about Greer’s past, LLV takes us on a wild ride that keeps us guessing all the things and the reveal is quite shocking while also expected, making it a great read for me. These two finally give into the feelings they have had for each other, and the fine line between love and hate blurs for them, making the ride for them an epic one. I can’t wait to see what comes next!

KD & Greer: RECEIVED THIS FREE ARC FOR AN HONEST REVIEW! TRIGGERS: sexual assault, assault, PTSD, motorcycle crashes, theft, drugs. Man, this book right here has me cracking up and dropping my jaw in shock on every page. KD we met at the beginning of the series. He owns the security business and is a member of GBMC. His nemesis, Greer is his best friend's other best friend. They've always been frenemies since high school. Or have they? Greer is a taxidermist. When she finds herself in the middle of a crime scene she runs to get worst enemy for help. Concerned for her safety, KD brings her home. It doesn't take long before they start playing with fire and it's scorching hot with these two. While trying to find out what's going on KD and Greer get closer. Once again LLV has you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what the he!! is going on. Once you think you've solved the mystery... PLOT TWIST! What an awesome ride! Y'all aren't ready for this series... You're really not. 🔥🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

5 Fire and Brimstone Stars!!

I’ve read all the books in this series and this is my favorite. There’s something about Davis and Greer that just captivated me. This girl is quirky AF and Davis is just the man to tame her. Of course, they’ve had this massive love-hate relationship for well over a decade thanks to the fact that their mutual best friend Sara has been trying to get them to like each other or at least be cordial when they’re together… and that’s a hard task!

I found myself laughing several times while reading this book thanks to the witty banter between our H/h and those around them. And the heat they generate was enough to cause my face to warm up and need a fan!! And thanks to some fabulous and sometimes just plain whacko secondary characters including two parrots Bryan and Bo Seefus, the suspense in this book fit this story perfectly!

I think I’m slightly obsessed with the Gator Bait MC because I can’t get enough of them and their significant others!

KD and Greer are two people we do not know a whole lot about prior to their book. KD and Greer start out as hating each other, but we all know that love and hate are two emotions that are closely linked. They do not appear to know that their hate is actually affection. For example, KD took the tire off her car because the tires needed to be changed. Greer saw it as a prank. KD saw it as a way to make sure she didn't get hurt. Even with that exchange, KD doesn't realize he is showing protectiveness and love towards Greer. Their attraction seems to sneak up on them and we are all here to watch the trainwreck happen. It's not an insta love. It's not a "I grew to love you". It's a "I've always been in love but denied it by hating you." There is the typical antagonist and mystery surrounding the couple; which makes it exciting. Overall, this book captures your attention, keeps your attention, and you just end up loving them. Lani is doing a great job with this series and I feel like each book keeps getting better and better.

I swear, there is something special about an enemies-to-lovers story. I love the back and forth banter, the hatred, the angst and of course the passionate love scenes.

I am pretty sure that I fell in love with Davis the moment his name was mentioned. Big, rough and tumble kind of guy with a passion for his family. One that he would kill and go to prison for. There is a big place in my heart for a man that loves his family. Then, you have Greer. I mean … she’s Greer! A take no prisoners kind of woman. She knows what she wants and especially what she doesn’t want. To say that she’s a force to be reckoned with is an understatement. I adored these two together. They just seem to work in all of the ways that matter.

As usual, Lani gave us another quick, yet amazing read. Her books are not short, although they’re quick reads, because the words and pages just flow so effortlessly. I have been a huge fan of hers for years now and I pray that she continues to grace us with these epic reads for many more years to come.
