Samurai against Apache warrior this time out. Robert Sand, our Black Samurai, is called in to action when a revenge minded Japanese business man, who's parents and other family members perished in the American bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WWII pays 50 million dollars for an atomic bomb of his own to destroy New York city. I knew I had to have it. The cover is a painted montage of three supposed scenes from the book. The most striking image is of the looming figure of the African-American Robert Sand, the Black Samurai, as he stands in his seventies-issue black leather jacket, a Shaft-like deadly serious look, and his arms crossed in front of him, his palms flat, in what is assumed to be a martial arts form. Marc Olden (1933–2003) was the author of forty mystery and suspense novels. Born in Baltimore, he began writing while working in New York as a Broadway publicist. His first book, Angela Davis (1973), was a nonfiction study of the controversial Black Panther. In 1973 he also published Narc, under the name Robert Hawke, beginning a hard-boiled nine-book series about a federal narcotics agent.
