The first four books of the Margo Mysteries were handed down to me by my mother when I was a teenager. I loved the first book, Margo, and read it several times. I’ve always wanted to know how the series finished and was so excited to download it onto my kindle.
Reading the 13 books as an adult, my Christian views are somewhat different to what they were when I was a teenager. I appreciated Margo and Philip’s genuine concern for people and their desire to reveal the love of God to those around them. So I enjoyed when Earl and Wally came into relationship with Christ, however the Hillary book irked me with its hinted references to eternal hell (which I disagree with theologically). Also the book, Paige, with the teenage suicide, seemed to me to be over the top in terms of Philip’s regret.
Jerry seemed to make a fair few of his female characters very similar. There were a lot of stunningly attractive, rich women who were able to pull the wool over men’s eyes, many of whom were manipulative and deceitful. I have to admit I don’t like it when women seem to take the masculine role of headship and I got a little tired of this personality repetition which occurred mostly in the first 4 books.
I enjoyed the way Jerry detailed his mysteries and the research he must have done to write them. My favourite books in the series are Margo and Courtney. Karlyn, Erin, Shannon, Meaghan, Lyssa and Margo’s Reunion were also really good, creative stories. Overall I enjoyed the read and found it quick and easy to get through the entire series.
I absolutely LOVED the Margo series. Beginning with book 1 when we are introduced to the title character and get a glimpse into her troubled life, the twists and turns of each subsequent mystery keep you guessing. The author, Jerry Jenkins (well known for his Left Behind series), does a fantastic job of weaving faith into compelling fiction and does so in a way that does not feel forced at all.
