The heart-stopping sequel to self/less by author, musician, global sensation and outsider, AViVA.
In a city of lies, can Teddy trust him?
Teddy needs to act fast to save Clan Ember from Link's tyranny and protect the Underground from the City's clutches. She has no choice but to trust Hunter - a stranger from outside the wall - to help her infiltrate the City Council, find her missing mother and discover the truth.
But will the truth really set the Underground, and Teddy, free?
AViVA, is an Australian author and musician, who describes herself as a multidisciplinary artist. With international success, AViVA has garnered over 3 billion global streams on her music to date and has created a groundswell online, building a strong community of fans - her 'Outsiders'.
Having always been a lover of stories and made-up worlds, she has fed her passion for self-expression with a healthy lifestyle of creativity and writing.
When not writing music or touring the world, AViVA can be found in her home library either nose deep in a good book, fingers busy writing at the keyboard or otherwise occupied in her art studio, sewing or making something else she's dreamt up.
Since breaking into the music world in 2017, she has explored the themes of control and isolation and this can be seen in the themes explored in her writing as well.
AViVA's debut novel SELF/LESS was released in October 2021 and the sequel RELENTLESS is due for release in 2022.
To avoid any potential spoilers, I will avoid naming any locations or names specifically.
The unique contrasting between the societal norms of various locations provides a thought-provoking commentary of what it means to be 'free,' and what is most important in life as a whole.
The seemingly complex personal motives of each character being shrouded in mystery brings about the question as to who is to be trusted. With the internal monologue of the protagonist being used as a tool to highlight the deceptive nature of those she encounters, the reader is provided with the unique feeling of being equally as confused with respect to who is to be trusted as the protagonist herself, bringing about a truly immersive experience.
Finally, as was the case with her previous novel, and is potentially my favourite part about Aviva as an author, is her unique ability to intertwine her novel with her music. In doing this, she is able to add a great level of depth to each art form, and provide unique experiences that neither medium would be able to capture alone. This provides a truly unique experience that I would highly recommend to anyone who has not experienced such a complex cross-platform sensation in the past.
Relentless features, but is not limited to, the following themes: ○ Dystopian ○ YA fantasy ○ Only one bed ○ Love Triangle ○ Resistance
My overall rating for Relentless is...
5 Stars!
Self/Less blew me away but Relentless... this book was invigorating! The excitement of the tale made me feel so alive! I loved exploring new levels of this harsh dystopian reality, with characters both familiar and new. The revelations that were revealed throughout the book were shocking and thrilling. Overall, the storytelling was well thought out and gripping! I highly recommend this series for lovers of Divergent, Hunger Games and any defiant dystopian tale.
Thank you pan McMillan for sending me a copy of RELENT/LESS to review.

I'm going to begin this review on a mildly unrelated note, but that's okay, They say not to judge a book by its cover, but most of us can't help it. There is something so appealing about a pretty cover. And in all honesty, this one just isn’t it, I have the first edition paperback of SELF/LESS, and under the dust jacket the cover is lovely, I was hoping to see something like that again. Armed with a mass market paperback copy of RELENT/LESS, I was hesitant to read it, it doesn’t look like the kind of thing I would normally pick up. But that's okay.
RELENT/LESS was a fun and fast-paced book packed with interesting turns around every corner. I like Teddy’s point of view and her narration is always fun to read. But most of all, my favourite part of the book, just like the first, SELF/LESS, was the references made to AViVA’s music and some of the single's wonderful cover art. Being able to tie the story to AViVA’s other mediums helps to expand Teddy's world from the page and into reality.
RELENT/LESS, like SELF/LESS, is young adult dystopian fiction, it's a quick read with a fun cast of characters and I can not wait to read the final book in this trilogy.
Did not put this one down! What a ride!! Loved the multi sensory read/ listen. I’ve never experienced anything like it before. Loved moving further along with Teddy’s story, loved the themes of trust and leadership here. What a twist! Can’t wait for the third!!!
What a roller-coaster!! I am very excited to have finally finished RELENTLESS, thank you to Pan Macmillan for sending me a reader copy
We jump straight into where we left off in the last book. The first part was gripping and interesting, we meet new character Hunter who is from the outside. But unfortunately nothing really happens in the middle part, it felt like the story was going nowhere. I just wish there was more action, more content, or something that'll excitement me or make me want to read faster - maybe that's just because I love books that are fast paced with a tone of action (that's the kind of books that I'd like to write some day) anyway, things definitely started to pick up towards the end, the story felt like it was finally moving and that ending really got me and now I need book 3 asap!!
I have high hopes for this series. I love AViVA as a singer and now as a writer Cant wait to read book 3 and hopefully it unfolds with all Teddy's questions being answered
I am really enjoying this series, so this is book 2. It took a few pages to get into as it picks up where book 1, Self/less finished and there is no recap at the start to help you pick u p the thread. Teddy is now the leader of the underground, and her clan needs protecting from the City’s clutches. With the help of the new boy Hunter (who claims he is from the Outside, a place beyond the City and one they were told doesn’t exist,) Teddy must return to the City under a new disguise and falsified papers. Hunter and Teddy are partnered and while she is looking for her mother and ways to help the underground, Hunter is looking for his brother. It’s a great read and as did the first book it ends on a cliff hanger. It also is still a series safe to recommend to people who are buying for their teens.
What on earth did I just read and do I even want to know, it was so bad it was funny
Jamie your suppose to be dead you should of died by too much blood lost at the very least and his charateration had done a 180 with little explanation and foreshadowing
What's the deal with the amout of sex talk, it wasn't even relvent if it was ranking how the city owns them then fine, but it didn't go anywhere once they need the deed, like what
Charaters had little to no trauma with what they experience teddy should of been more disoriented and confused then she was with her mother dying and rhe boys constantly fighting. I don't really see the point of Jamie coming back other then to double cross teddy.
Relentless is the second book in the self/less series and it picks up with Teddy trying to save Clan Ember from Link's tyranny.
This book was a fantastic continuation of this series. It was a quick, engaging read that hit me really hard with the cliffhangers! I can honestly say there were a few unexpected surprises with this book that had me on the edge of my seat.
I felt this book really built out the dystopian society even more. Contrasting the underground with the City above and the state of the rest of the world. We get to explore the functions of the City Council further and also meet some new characters that will be integral to the rest of the series.
I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a great dystopian read.
Thank you to Macmillan Australia for gifting me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Aviva’s second novel, Relentless, had me completely captivated from the first few lines. Right away I felt as if I was part of the world, interacting with the characters and their emotions and experiences in such an extreme way that the book was hard to put down. An excellent continuation on from Self/Less, Relentless will leave you wanting more and falling further in love with the characters. The perfect YA dystopian read - put it on your TBR!
Kit improved in this book but she is still the worse character. I know she’s meant to be likeable but she was a terrible friend to Teddy in the first book and it seems she hasn’t really changed much at all.

A great follow-up to the first book, this story continues the saga, but introduces new characters, environments, and situations. I thought it was just different enough to be original, but with the characters we knew and loved (and hated).
It was captivating and dragged me into the world, the storyline was exciting and Hunter was an interesting new character. Kit was way better than in the last book but she was a completely different person and I was dissatisfied with the ending.
So the story continues... and I didn’t even need to pick up Self/less to recap. This is a brilliant follow up read and I absolutely recommend reading Self/Less first, which has been republished.
I’m hooked!!! Ahhh I have read both books in only a couple of days. Surely there has to be third novel in the works. To leave it on such a cliff hanger.
I’m going to need a third in this series please. Really love the book. Great story with so many twists along the way and really heart felt characters you can connect with.
I honestly enjoyed this book more then the first one it has a very creative dystopian setting throughout the story. I will always be a Hunter fan he was an honest charmer who cared for the main character more then Jamie who I knew deep down was a bit shady.

What. The. Hell. That ending bro... Im speechless. I NEED THE THRID BOOK NOWWW!!! Gonna be honest, it got me a bit to get into it but just before part two and when Hunter and Teddy were finally really in the city again and the fake dating it was so FREAKIN GOOD!! AViVA, I love you so much, this one was so much better than the first, (and the first was AMAZING)
I loved the whole Teddy and Hunter being undercover and being really influential in the like council, and especially the fake dating and tensionnnn, and yes, I love Hunter more, even before finding out what Jamie did. I have so much to say but I think that words are not enough to carry all my thoughts and love for this.
I've waited ever since the first one came out and it was so god damn worth the wait!! Truly. This book was the first book to get me into reading and it will alway have a special place in my heart xx All the freakin stars ever x
