Even though the book was published in the late fifties, the method of designing shading elements is interesting and stands true to the test of time. However, one needs to be more informed of the recent glazing specifications and materials when reading the book to mentally filter out some of what was recommended by the Olgyay brothers in their time. For example, absorptive dark tinted glass is not recommended in hot regions as the heat is dissipated to the interior eventually. Nevertheless, the book offers, in addition to the shading design method, beautifully illustrated case studies from around the world of various shading strategies.
