I had the pleasure of reading No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos which is part of the Fall Back Into Love collection. This is the first story I have read by Jess but I’ve been following her for a bit and somehow knew I would love her writing. I was absolutely correct and I can’t wait to read through all of her other books which I’ve now added to my TBR list!
No Place Like Home tells the story of Laney and Everett. It’s a sweet second chance romance that has me grinning all the way through. Laney is a country superstar who never forgot her first and only love, Everett. Everett had only ever had eyes for Laney. Laney has avoided her hometown for the past 6 years because she knew seeing Everett again could only bring her pain until she comes back for her 10 year reunion and needs to stay in town longer then expected.
There were so many great things about this story. Everett is about the sweetest guy ever! Even through he was hurting from his breakup with Laney years ago he was never anything but kind and caring toward her. I adored the way he called her Darlin. He’s a true gentleman! Laney was so different then I expected her to be at the beginning of the story. She never forgot her true roots and finds her way back to what she has always know she truly wanted. The book is full of humorous country sayings that will make you smile and the comic relief of Gertie the Goat made me laugh out loud. The characters and story are so well developed and just kind of jump to life. The HEA had me sighing and swooning.
All these elements made this story something special and I looked forward to picking up again each night.
I received a complimentary copy of No Place Like Home. A positive review was not required and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received an advanced copy of The Last Chance Romance and immediately fell in love. I do not always love novellas because you cannot really dive in deep with the characters, but Sara writes in such a way as you best friends from the beginning.
After Ethan and Val broke up in high school, I love that Ethan’s grandpa brought them back together through a fun road trip!!
Get your Diet Coke and blanket, this one is a treat!
Fall Back Into Love: A Romantic Comedy Collection by Ginny Sterling

Faking it for Gran's Sake by Lisa Renée Lauren thought she had the perfect hiding place in her small hometown of Georgetown, the ideal spot to keep a low profile from her ex-fiancé, Mason. But fate plays a wild card when he appears out of the blue with heartbreaking news concerning his grandmother, whom Lauren loved as if she were her own and who she misses dearly. Lauren refused to have a relationship like her mother and father; a work-obsessed husband who became an absent father. Unfortunately, it is exactly what Mason became, hence the breakup. She couldn’t deny the feelings she still held for him, but how could she commit to a man who was never around?
Lisa Renée has created a beautifully sweet novella that is a page-turner and I could not stop until I reached the end with a contented sigh. The beginning is a perfect hook, a clever combination of presenting the foundation and well-written humour. Faking it for Gran's Sake is a short and simple story, but written pleasantly. Oozing romantic chemistry between Mason and Lauren emanates from the pages, with telltale indications of how deep their connection is forged. The story is not complete without the wonderful, entertaining character that is Gran.
This is a sweet romance with no inappropriate language or sexual scenes. I recommend it for lovers of this genre or for anyone who enjoys a happy ending.
This novella is a prequel to the Love in Mirror Valley series, but works well as a standalone.
On the way to her first day as a receptionist at the Brookrose Inn, Valentina "Val" Reyes-Murphy decides to take a detour to her old childhood treehouse. Unfortunately, she manages to tear her brand-new trousers as she's climbing up, which of course is when her childhood friend and former boyfriend, Ethan Holmes, walks up. He's just in time to catch Val when she falls out of the treehouse after being spooked by what she thinks is a giant spider. Ethan and Val haven't seen or spoken with each other since their breakup four years ago, after which Ethan left town for culinary school in Montana. He's back in Mirror Valley to honor his late grandfather's final request: a road trip treasure hunt with Val. Now he just has to persuade her to go with him...
Even though this was a relatively short story, it didn't feel much like a novella to me at all because the characters were so endearing and three-dimensional. I think a lot of that can be attributed to the story's structure, which relied on a series of flashbacks to slowly reveal the exact circumstances behind Val and Ethan's breakup back in high school. The flashbacks were very helpful in understanding why Val was so hesitant to trust Ethan again as well as how they might be able to work towards their second chance in the present.
Overall, I loved this funny, sweet, and heartfelt story and highly recommend it for fans of sweet contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to reading whatever Sara Jane Woodley writes next!

I read Jess Mastorakos' story in this collection, No Place Like Home. It was a second chance love story about Laney and Everett. Laney and Everett thought they would be together forever. When Laney is given the opportunity to make her dream of being a musician come true, she leaves town, and Everett, behind. Years later, she goes back home for her reunion and to help promote her new album. Will she and Everett find there's still hope for them years later? And will they be able to trust each other again? I loved this book. This was my first by this author, and I look forward to reading more! A novella can be difficult to write well, but I felt she did such a great job. The characters and story were well told. I loved Laney and Everett and enjoyed seeing how their story developed. I look forward to reading the rest in this collection and definitely look forward to reading more by this author! I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. All opinions are my own!
– this is a prequel to Sara’s Love in Mirror Valley series, but can be read as a stand-alone
– this is told from Val & Ethan’s points of view (past & present)
Review:
I liked not really knowing what it was that made Val & Ethan separate straight away. It was nice to get a few steps of the past in between what was happening in the current story. I loved that Val enjoyed brownies (almost any kind, I wish I could stomach as many as she ate within the story!) and that Ethan remembered this in his plan to apologize and try for a second chance. I also liked reading scenes with Ethan’s granddad in it, he was funny and liked to poke fun at the couple. It was clear that both Val & Ethan loved him and would do pretty much anything he’d ask. Some of my favorite scenes in this story included: paint balling, the water park, the lake, the flashback scenes, and Val’s many mishaps 😂.
Val thought she had something lasting with Ethan back in high school, but that went down the drain when he broke up with her and moved out of town. She should have known he’d be back with his grandparents staying behind, but never thought about it. So when he shows up, it’s unexpected. Especially when he asks her to join him on one last road trip treasure hunt that his granddad set up for them in his will. Val would do anything for his late granddad, even spend time with the guy who broke her heart.
Ethan regrets what he did to Val all those years ago. If he could go back in time, he would change what he did so they never grew apart. But maybe his granddad’s request can give him the chance to fix everything. And show Val just how much she still means to him…
No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos
Reader’s Notes:
– this is told from Laney & Everett’s points of view
Review:
This is the first story I’ve read by Jess Mastorakos, and it won’t be my last! (Especially since I want to know who else might find love in the future from this story 😍.) I enjoyed reading this second chance romance that had a surprising reason of how it ended the first time (at least it was surprising to me as I thought someone else forced it to end). I really enjoyed the fact of Laney having come from a small town and that all of them seemed to have never stopped rooting for her relationship with Everett to take off into marriage. One of my favorite side characters (yes, I have more than one!) is Riley and how he took everything in stride with Laney. He was respectful of her feelings and Everett’s feelings and knew that something wouldn’t happen between them, but also he was a great friend. And that really shown through to everyone else close to Laney. I loved it when they all stood up for him in a situation that seemed impossible and put a stop to the nonsense his manager tried to get away with. That was one of my favorite scenes! Some others included: after the reunion, meeting Gertie, Shifty and his wife, and the family get together.
Laney hasn’t been back home since she signed with her record label. Not because she didn’t have enough time, but because she can’t face the guy she left behind. The guy she’s loved forever and can’t get out of her mind despite the time apart. The guy who likely believes her publicity stunt of a relationship is real like the rest of the world…
Everett has tried to let go of his time with Laney before she hit it big, but that didn’t go so well. When he hears that Laney’s coming home with her new famous beau, he tries to avoid her and the feelings she stirs up inside him the best he can. But things don’t work out the way he hoped and he instead finds her within minutes of her arriving back. Talk about a plan that backfired.
As both of them spend more and more time together than they originally planned, Laney and Everett try and fail to keep their feelings under-wraps. But can they get past their relationship’s end to go forward towards their future and the possibility of a second chance?
2 -- The High School Reunion by Laura Burton -- they both get dumped right before 10 year reunion, pretend to be together for reunion, she realizes he ghosted her after HS because his parents were in bad car accident, blah
1 -- Forever Forward - A Flyboys SS by Ginny Sterling -- there are too many characters, and many characters have multiple names, and the plot is dumb... he's loved her since she was 10, she only feels friendship; her dad explodes anytime he even looks at her, at the age of 10, at the age of 18, plus over and over at the age of 29; seriously, if dads/brothers don't let anyone near their daughters/sisters to even talk and go on dates, we might as well go back to arranged marriages or putting women into convents; in this case, yes, folks, 29 is not old enough to go on a date without daddy threatening your date with physical violence, and don't let a 10-year-old boy talk with your 10-year-old daughter because... uh... she might get boy-cooties?]
4 -- The Last Chance Road Trip by Sara Jane Woodley -- They haven't seen each other in 4 years, he's back in town for his grandpa's funeral, the will makes him go on a road trip with her. 4 years ago he had grand plans to "pre"-pose to her, but his mom got a new job in another state.
5 -- Faking it for Gran's Sake by Lisa Renee -- They broke up because he prioritized his job, his aging grandma thinks they are still engaged so they plan a fake wedding
3 -- Fighting for Fiona by Susanne Ash -- Another not-so-short long movie/tv producer/actress story by this author. Basic story is actually good, just packaged with weird pacing and random unresolved side plots
4 -- No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos -- she is a country music star, he is a mechanic in their small home-town, she got the offer to go big while he was proposing and he told her to go for it, at HS reunion they reconnect and resolve issues; despite being a major trope, the story has enough unique elements to be well worth it
4 -- Hiding Henry by Kaitlyn Clarkson -- They broke up last year. He's a farmer. Her friend is obsessed with animal rights so they steal his prize pig (Henry) and hide him in their backyard. Goes with the story by the same author, "Burying Bessie", in the Head Over Heels anthology.
3 -- Rings on Wings by Tracy Broemmer -- They broke up years ago when he found out she was pregnant. They have become good at "parent sharing." She gets along great with his family.
4 -- Sweet Home Midwest by Stephanie J Scott -- She rents a cabin for a girls' weekend, but it was double booked and none of her friends make it. He was her high school boyfriend, they broke up because he decided not to do college and she loves going to school. They spend the weekend together remembering their family vacations at the cabin.
3 --The Right Time by Mel Walker -- Best friends to lovers trope. Great chemistry. However, the story starts like they each are unsure if the other one likes them. Then we gradually figure out that they had an amazing kiss in high school, he said she was "the one" and it wasn't "the right time" so he went off to college. They see each other during summer breaks, etc. They go on a double date and she makes out with his friend to make him jealous. It works, but he doesn't say anything.
I received an ARC copy of No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos and this is the book that I am reviewing.
This was of course another win by Mastorakos. I have to admit I was a bit worried about this book, but it ended up being amazing! No Place Like Home is the first book in Jess Mastorakos’ Love in Charlotte Oak and it is part of the Fall Back in Love Collection. Laney was a great character. Although she was a superstar, she still kept to her roots. She did not allow fame to change her or at least she was trying to stay true to herself. I liked Laney, she was trying to figure out who she was and what she wanted to be known for. Laney was sweet and I liked how she had a great relationship with her family and her old town. Everett was a sweetheart. He had fallen hard for Laney and never recovered when she left. Everett was a complicated character but just as fun to read about. He truly loved Laney and he wanted her to be happy. But Everett also had to work through his feelings of being left and learn to trust Laney again. Everett and Laney’s relationship was so sweet to read about. I liked how they were friends first. Although this was a second chance romance, it did not feel awkward or weird. The story was sweet and I liked how Everett and Laney were never hostile to each other. Everett and Laney had to work through a lot, especially their past. I liked the pace of the story. It did not feel dragged out but it also didn’t feel rushed. The characters were fun, and I adored the small town feel. No Place Like Home is a wonderful book and I would definitely recommend it! You need to get your hands on this book! I am also so excited for this new series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
“Falling for you is worth more than a stuffy suit.” This is a quote from the book Faking it for Gran’s Sake by Lisa Renee.
It’s one of the books in this sweet collection of stories about “Falling Back into Love.”
For me, this story was a sweet and delightful story of reuniting two individuals who really still loved each other, even when they thought differently. The author, Lisa Renee, wrote a story many of us could relate to. It had emotions of desiring to care for a loved one, longing to belong, all the flair of planning a wedding, and being cherished. Lisa Renee is a “new-to-me” author and has an entertaining way to bring the story to life. The story flowed smoothly and there were many fun parts. I enjoyed the banter between the characters and all the planning to do something special for a dear loved one. I totally enjoyed reading this book, and I highly recommend you pick it up to read. I hope we will be hearing more about the wonderful characters in this book. I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
One of my favorite stories in this collection is by Ginny Sterling. FOREVER FORWARD I have come to love this series and the strong but also tender and sentimental men and women in the stories. This one was a little different , but just as touching and sweet. This novella is about two of the offsprings of the Flyboys. Tobias Saxon, now an Air Force pilot, fell in love with Samantha Sloan when he was just ten years old. But he was her best friend, and Tobias’s crush, as far as Samantha was concerned, was just weird. Their first kiss was awkward and once he enlisted, the embarassment was such that Tobias has avoided coming home for the last 10 years. But another picnic and celebration has him home and this time he hopes he gets a second chance. That is, if her father, Jackson/Tumper Sloan, doesn’t maim him first !! This was a sweet, and touching story about young love, second chances in life and love, and new beginnings. It’s also a story about families, not only those formed by blood but also those created by a bound of friends. I just loved it. I am sure you will too. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a great start to a new series of stand alone stories that I am guessing will be connected by family and I am excited to read the next one and the rest of them. This story is different from other books by this author and is so good! It was a departure from the usual Marines, but the author stayed true with Everett and all of his male relation having served or currently serving. Everett and Laney are childhood neighbors and friends that become high school sweethearts who go their separate ways when her career takes off. They are reunited when she comes home for their high school reunion and the chemistry and longing is still there. They have meddling friends and family and she has a manager that does not slow down or quit. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting, I could not stop reading. It flowed so well and the characters were so well written and trying to be true to themselves in the long run. I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a delightful romantic comedy collection! "No Place Like Home" by Jess Mastorakos made for a great second chance romance between Laney and Everett who just didn't get the timing right. Or who didn't quite get it right the first time. Handed a chance to reconnect when Laney goes home for a reunion brings up a lot of feelings, uncertainty being at the forefront of them all.
Watching them open up to each other and embracing that second chance makes for a delightful and quick read that will have your heart melting. There's some chemistry there for you too. Mastorakos has a wonderful way of carrying you through the story with her writing/storytelling style. Definitely check this story out as well as the others in the Fall Back Into Love collection.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors. A review was not required, and all opinions are my own.
No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos. Laney and Everett were high school sweethearts and everyone expected them to get married. As he was going into the Marines, she was getting her career started in Nashville as a country star. As soon as he gets out of the Marines and they are about to actually get engaged, Laney receives a record deal and her career takes off. They don't see each other for 6 years because she hasn't been back to her home town. Her manager asks her to return to her home town for her 10 year class reunion. When Laney and Everett see each other, it's like they haven't even been apart since they still feel the same. It's a great story!
This review is for The Last Chance Road Trip Novella by Sara Jane Woodley in the book Fall Back Into Love
-Dual POV -Flashbacks -Road trip treasure hunt -Second chance romance -Paintball -Waterslides -Picnic in the Park -Swoony Lake Kiss
I really enjoyed the flashbacks and being able to see how Ethan and Val’s relationship was in their younger years. I absolutely love the scavenger hunt and how it helps them to become friends again. I totally understand how Val feels about the monster waterslide. I would probably scream myself hoarse too. I love that Ethan and Val decide to fight for each other.
I give this Novella 5/5 stars. It was such a fun quick read and I will gladly read this story again!
Thanks to Sara Jane Woodley for the arc. All opinions are my own.
No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos is a sweet and clean romance set in Charlotte Oaks, Tennessee. Instead of an active duty Marine, Jess introduces Everett as a Marine Veteran mechanic who returned to his small hometown. We also meet Laney who left the same small town in search of a becoming a country music star. Along the way Laney lost her roots and is not happy in her current pop country star persona. The two meet up again after six years at their high school reunion. Sparks fly and they realize they have never stopped loving each other. This story is a fun quick read and has several very funny moments, especially with the help of a goat. You will enjoy the fast pace and romance between Elliott and Laney and of course the happily ever after.
I had an ARC for the book No Place Like Home from this collection, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Laney is a country rock star who has a fake boyfriend for publicity purposes. When she is convinced to return home to Charlotte Oaks for her class reunion she has mixed emotions because she hasn’t spoken to her longtime boyfriend Everett in years. She’s still in love with him, but things went south when she decided to sign with a recording company and her career took off. She doesn’t like the way her recording label has dictated changes to her sound and must decide what to do about it. An interesting book about broken relationships, and finding your way to the person you should be.
No Place Like Home is a fun story about a former Marine now mechanic and Nashvilles new country star maybe getting a second chance. Laney hit it big six years ago when she signed on to a record label and became famous. Unfortunately she ended up leaving behind her best friend and love Everett. The two were able to survive four years away from each other when Everett was in the. Ari ex but Laney doesn’t want to try to continue us a long distance relationship so she turns down his proposal. They both have really never moved on and their 10 year reunion is going to be quite the test to see how things go. Throw in a fake boyfriend, pushy managers, new world tour, and the fact that the two haven’t spoken in years and you get a great book!
I read "No Place Like Home". Laney does not want to go to her class reunion. She's a superstar so she can call the shots, right? Sadly, the answer is a big NO. Not only are "they" making her go, but they are making Riley go with her. Riley is her "for show" boyfriend. In reality, Riley and Laney have become good friends. Riley is the only one who knows the real reason Laney doesn't want to go back to Charlotte Oaks. This is a really sweet story that I read in one sitting. You'll have to read for yourself why Laney doesn't want to go home and how it all turns out. I was given a copy for my honest review, and if all the books are like this one, you're in for a whole world of happy reading.
Review for The Last Chance Road Trip by Sara Jane Woodley:
This story was so fun! The history between the two characters was so intriguing and I loved the flashbacks. With second-chance love stories, sometimes there’s a sense that the reason they broke up in the first place wasn’t realistic, but I definitely didn’t feel that way with this story. The heartbreak they suffered in the past just made their reunion so much sweeter.
This novella was short as the name suggests, but the story never felt rushed or cut short. Read for some hilarious moments, including water park antics and a funny grandpa meddling from beyond the grave, and plenty of swoony moments.
I received an ARC copy from the author, all opinions are my own.
Laney is a country music star who is feeling a little uncomfortable living the life she’s living. Everett is the owner of a garage where he uses his talent fixing cars. They were longtime sweethearts considering a future together when things fell apart, and it’s been six years since they’ve seen each other. A ten year class reunion is coming up and Laney’s manager wants her to attend. That’s how the story starts, and it sucks you in right from the beginning. Both Laney and Everett are such likeable characters that I found myself caring about them both. The story is fast moving and one that I found myself wanting to go back to as often as I could. The story is well written and entertaining. I certainly plan to read more by this author.
I just finished reading No Place But Home by Jess Masterakos which is included in this romcom collection and it was adorable!
Pop country star Laney has to go home for her 10 year high-school reunion as a publicity boost for her upcoming tour but is hesitant to do so because she still loves "the one who got away" ... her best friend and high school sweetheart that she hasn't see or talked to for 6 years.
This story was full of southern charm, tons of humorous sayings (like, busier than a moth in a mitten), and it obviously has a happy ending.
If you're looking for something light and uplifting, I recommend this anthology, and this story specifically!
This rating and review is for Fakin’ It for Gran’s Sake by Lisa Renée:
Can Lauren and Mason find a second chance? They do still love each other, but unresolved issues are keeping them apart. I enjoyed reading how they searched their souls and worked through their issues, often involving humorous situations!
Though this can be read as a stand-alone, people familiar with the author’s Clear Creek County Sweet Romantic Comedy series will enjoy this addition. For first timers, this is a great introduction to this charming setting and lovable, quirky cast of characters (I’m looking at you, Gran & Mrs. Baxter!)
I received an ARC copy of this book, and this is my voluntary, honest opinion.
This is a review for "Faking it for Gran's Sake" by Lisa Renee'.
Lauren and Mason were engaged, but she broke up with him, because he was a workaholic. His grandmother, Gran, lived in a nursing home in the same town as Lauren.
He never told Gran about Lauren and him breaking up. Now that he thinks her health is bad, he doesn't have the heart to tell her. What is he going to do when Gran wants them to get married before she dies? What is Lauren going to say?
I received a free ARC, and this is my honest opionion.
No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos is a great “Fall Back into Love” story. I like that Everett and Laney can still talk to each other even from the beginning without a lot of anger even before they work things out. I think it is great that they never really had another significant other because they were still so in love with each other that other relationships would not work. It has some angst, humor, kissing, and music, but it is easy to tell that Everett and Laney still love each other, even though it takes a while to let each other know. Very sweet! Loved it!
This is Ginny Sterling's story and it's part of the Flyboys Series (Forever Forward). Toby has always loved Samantha, even in school, when the first time he kissed her in the hallway of school and his braces cut her lip. Her dad, Thumper, did not want them together and he made that perfectly clear to Toby. I thought he was really tough on him and Samantha was so young she didn't know what she was feeling and kept pushing him away. It was sad really. But several years later he's back home on leave and still loves her. This is a true love story you won't want to miss. HEA.
At this time, I’m only reviewing For Gran’s Sake by Lisa Renee. This is a sweet second chance romance about Lauren and Mason. Lauren broke off their engagement because Mason put his job at Brooker and Son over her. When Mason starts visiting his Gran at the nursing home, she wants Lauren to visit too. Will Mason decide to put Lauren first this time or will they just be friends? Grab your copy of this quick read and see what happens. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this collection.
This is a wonderful collection of stories and Faken It For Gran’s Sake by Lisa Renee is the one I’m reviewing. It’s about Lauren and Mason who had been together before but broke up. Now they are here together and wonder if they can get a second chance as the feelings are still there. But unresolved issues from the past makes it not possible unless they take about them out in the open to resolve them. Will they take this chance s they want a future? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I read Jess Mastorakos's No Place Like Home from this collection and it was such a sweet second chance love story!!!
I loved Charlotte Oaks as a small town! It was perfectly described and I really want to visit it!!
And then there's Laney and Everett!!! Cue the heart eyes! Their story was so sweet, I absolutely loved getting to know them and seeing them find their way back to each other!
Jess Mastorakos is such a wonderful author and I love her stories. This new series is probably going to turn into one of my favorites of hers!
Special shout out to Jess M’s contribution to this romcom collection. If you haven’t had a chance to read this author you are in for a real treat! She is an amazing storyteller…you fall in love with her characters and it’s soooo good to the very last sentence. In this story poor swoony Everett puts the love of his life first and thought he could make all decisions for her….well, he eventually learned his girl had a mind of her own and it was focused in him! Lot’s of personality and laughs in this read- enjoy!
I am an ARC for No Place Like Home by Jess Mastorakos. This story is about Everett and Laney who were sweethearts in Charlotte Oaks. On the night Everett was going to propose, Laney got the call that she was going to make it big with her singing. Everett left her go before proposing so that she could follow her dreams. Laney is now a big music star and she is going home to her small town for a local show. She again meets up with Everett due their families being close. Will they get back together or will her status as a music star come between them? Great read and find out what happens!
