I was born and raised in Dunedin, New Zealand, but had my first year of school in London, UK and the second in Washington DC. I became a primary school teacher and began writing when I was living in Glasgow, Scotland for two years and teachers were all on strike. My first novel was a medical thriller with a good dash of romance thrown in. I have now written well over a hundred romance novels with more than a dash of medicine thrown in. I love weaving the emotional journey of a love story through the background drama the medical world can provide. I also love the rabbit holes I can go down in the name of research. Above all, I love romance. And a happy ending!
This was about a single firefighter who played as hard as he worked. And his exploits were well known at the firehouse. The line female who worked with him had known he would never look her way. He dated women who were known for being beautiful. She was short and not thin. But when he is left with a baby she steps in to help. Can he figure out what is more important?
This came in The Feisty Firefighters Bundle. I almost didn't read it. But I am glad that I did. I enjoyed the New Zealand setting and really liked the heroine. I'm not tremendously fond of books that focus on babies, but the firefighting and paramedic details made it interesting. The baby plot was a bit contrived.
When a baby is left on the back doorstep of the firehouse, playboy firefighter Jason Halliday must step up and be the father to a child he didn’t know existed. EMT Laura has been in love with Jason since she started working at the firehouse, and she offers to help him out with the baby as a way to get to know him better and maybe set a spark to their relationship. When the baby’s mother returns with demands, she sets off a series of events that changes everything.
This book was ok. The use of the baby as a way for Laura to get close to Jason didn’t really sit well for me – it was a bit too desperate for my tastes. Jason may have been a hot firefighter, but he certainly was shallow, and it was nice to see him mature once the baby entered his life and he started to bond with her. I did enjoy the twists and the mystery surrounding the baby’s mother.
I read this as part of the Feisty Firefighter's Bundle anthology. I love that it was set in New Zealand, but being from the USA, it was strange seeing the differences in the language.
