Families: Applications of Social Learning to Family Life

Rate this book
This book helps parents recognize the crucial role they play in shaping their children's behavior. The first half of the book examines reinforcement and contracts as the basis for behavior management programs. The second half focuses on applications of social learning principles. In addition to addressing common problems such as whining and temper tantrums, the book offers practical advice on more complex problems such as aggression and stealing. Focuses on children and young adolescents.

A short text on how to set up one's environment to foster positive behaviours in families (not just children). The text is sprinkled with simple data collections sheets (which I loved!) Parents and practitioners may find it useful as the explanations are welcoming and strategies underwhelming (one step at a time). The book is a bit outdated but relevant nonetheless.
I will definitely be buying a copy for future reference.

This is a lot like "living with children" using charts that instead of rewarding for good things its about not doing the bad things. Not a bad read but I feel like we know a lot more now then we did back then to use multiple ways to influence positive behavior in the family setting.
