The Kingsmen’s top tight end. My brother’s friend and teammate. My new neighbor. The grumpy to my sunshine.
But underneath that grumpy exterior, there’s so much more.
Chase likes to pretend nothing affects him, but I’ve seen glimpses of his other side in the time we’ve spent together.
And the more we get to know each other, the more I’m falling for him.
Under normal circumstances, this would be great. Except my hyper-protective big brother thinks no man is good enough for me, and my ex-fiancé is trying to win me back.
One charming, seemingly good man already broke my heart. Am I stupid to give a self-confessed relationship-adverse football player a chance to break it a second time?

Finally! Chase & Twyla's story, woo hoo! I've been waiting for ages for them to get together and it was just as great as I had a feeling it would be.
Twyla is fresh from dumping her cheating fiance, so she temporarily moves from Connecticut to California and right across the hall from a 6'4" 265 lb solid muscle beefcake. Chase is an anti-social grump, but perhaps he was just waiting on a special someone to show him some sunshine. And Twyla is just the lady that might cut through that hard muscly exterior and bring out the sweetness.
Miles is a way overprotective brother (his reasoning is semi acceptable), so Twyla thinks it's a good idea to sneak around. You know how that'll go six way from Sunday night football.
These two had undeniable chemistry that had me fanning myself a time or two. I loved them and what was in his secret room too.
Overall, a wonderful end this trilogy + the .5 prequel that started it. I am super excited for the set up for a new series that will follow football team Chicago Grizzlies. I've been waiting on the first couples story for 3 books and I know that it will be just as delightful as this one.
Narration notes: I did not listen to this one, but am just giving the info above for reference.
*Thanks to Piper Rayne and Valentine PR for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

Have to say it, Chase Andrews is my Favorite Kingsmen, and his story was the perfect way to wrap up the Series.
I don't have to tell you how amazing the chemistry was between them because you can feel it through the pages before they even get together. But, I will tell you that there is soooo much more to Chase than meets the eye and I, for one, loved every minute of his layers opening for Twyla to see the person he is inside.
I’m so sad that I didn’t realize that this was the end of the Kingsmen Football series! 😭
This series is such a quick, fun and spicy read! I listened to the audiobooks for this entire series and the duet narration is AMAZING!
This book is HANDS DOWN my favorite of the series. I am always a sucker for a brother’s best friend/teammate book…ESPECIALLY when it’s mixed with the grumpy x sunshine trope!
Chase Andrews was my favorite Kingsmen 🥹💓 A grumpy football player with a soft spot for his teammate’s lil’ sis that he calls sunshine ☀️ WE LOVE TO SEE IT.
I totally would have loved a longer book for Twyla and Chase, but the whole series is super short and sweet books, so I knew what I was going into.
**Audio Review** Over My Brother’s Dead Body, Chase Andrews by Piper Rayne was just the low, angst grumpy sunshine football romance my heart needed! I loved everything about Chase and Twyla’s next-door neighbors to forever romance, and I adored how one little orange kitten named Zeus could bring these two together! This is book 3 in Piper Rayne’s Kingsmen Football Stars series but can be listened to as a stand-alone.
Savannah Peachwood and Jason Clarke narrate this audiobook in duet. I hadn’t heard these two paired together in a while, and I could not stop listening to their game-winning performances. Savannah added the perfect mix of vulnerability and sultry sunshine to Twyla’s passionate upbeat personality. Plus, Jason brought the swoon and the charm with his performance of the broody introverted NFL tight-end, Chase. Both narrators brought the heat with Chase and Twyla’s simmering slow-burn magnetic chemistry!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. If you are a fan of a grumpy sunshine romance with a hot cranky football stud, a sweet dedicated teacher looking to move on from her past, a next-door neighbor connection, hosting a teammates engagement party, gala dates, parenting a kitten, lego collections, watching American Horror Story, bar altercations, slow burn steamy times, an overprotective brother/ teammate, and a HEA that will make your heart shine, then you will love Chase and Twyla’s story. I always look forward to more from Piper Rayne.
This brother's best friend/neighbors dual POV romance wasn't my favorite one in the Kingsman football series but it was still steamy and entertaining!! I love getting cameos from former characters in the series and I'm excited for the spinoff series next! Good on audio narrated by Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood!
Excellent duet narration. There were less than a few times when I even noticed any type of unnatural space between their conversations. Mad props to not just Jason & Savannah, but the entire production team as well. Duet narration can be a difficult feat and I have no clue if they produced this narration together in the same studio or separate and someone *put it together*, but it was flawless either way so well done!!!
STORY REVIEW & RATING: 4.5 STARS
I don’t even know where to begin my review! Lol I really enjoyed this story! There are SO MANY heartwarming, romantic, hilarious, and just plain fun plot-points in this story that I’d highly rec it to anyone and everyone! It just has a little bit of everything, and it made me happy!
I think the best aspect for me was how well the grumpy/sunshine trope was developed, not just as characterization of Chase & Twyla but also their storyline. Twyla wasn’t just sunshine in personality, she lived sunshine, and Chase wasn’t just grumpy in personality, he completely lived grumpy, and Piper Rayne did such an excellent job of blending them both together so well from the very beginning that they didn’t even feel like opposites! I dunno you guys but it brought me joy!! I will say that I don’t think I would have felt this an intensely as I did were it not for the narrators, maybe. Jason Clarke’s *voice* lends easily towards grumpy and Savannah’s very easily to *sunshine* and I am 100% sure that helped bring the joy for me. But Chase and Twyla were definitely grumpy/sunshine characters that bring joy no matter how you choose to experience this story.
One aspect I strongly disliked was how Twyla long she *clung* to what could have been with her x and how long into the story she still grieved (her word) what could have been … #twitchy I especially disliked that she gave him even a second glance. I mean they didn’t just *break-up* for FFS! It just made her weak and I didn’t like it. It was a dark contrast to every other aspect of her personality, and it didn’t fit. It felt like *dramatics for dramatics sake* and we all know how I feel about those kind of plot-points! Lol I absolutely understand the closure element but UGH, so darn cliché! LOL However, on the flip side of that, I loved how she took her past and kicked it straight back where it belonged in the end! :)
I’ve never been a fan of the sibling trope because I truly do not understand it. I hate the whole cliché encounter of finding out, but I appreciated that it wasn’t dragged out. So, there’s that. I honestly just wish authors would take a different approach when it came to this trope. I see it as insulting to both parties involved. Who wants a friend who thinks so low of him/her that dating their siblings puts them in a rage and who wants a sibling that doesn’t think about their happiness first and foremost before they go all bull in a china shop? Again, I just don’t get it.
I’m sorry to say goodbye to this series so early but I’m looking forward to Miles’ story with a new team and city and of course a whole new cast of characters. I feel like I was just getting comfortable with the Kingsmen :( but it is what it is! Onward to the next great read from this author duo!
Twyla's new neighbor is a slab of muscle with broody grump oozing from every pore. Chase - her brother's teammate on the Kingsmen and friend is determined to keep her at multiple arms' length. He knows better than even looking at Miles' baby sister. Miles, the man like his own brother who's so protective of his sister that the whole team doesn't dare to cross him in that way. But now that she's near him, how can he keep resisting the sunshine she radiates?
Chase may be grumpy on the outside, but his sunshine is starting to have an effect on him. Suddenly, he's sneaking around with her, trying to soak up all her warmth, letting his soft side show, and wondering how on earth he's going to explain when Miles finds out. How is he going to explain that Twyla's not just casual, she's everything? Will Miles make him choose between his friendship and the woman who's become so much to him?
What a way to end this series! I love it when Grumpy meets Sunshine and she keeps him on his toes. I love it even more when he's secretly a big softy on the inside and that she just brings it out in him. Though Chase is a big, muscular hottie, he's so much more on the inside, and only Twyla brings it out. The two are so adorable together with her sweet sunshine, sassy mouth, and his brooding grump masking his teddy bear inside.
I’ve been eagerly waiting for this book ever since we first saw Chase and Twyla interact in Lee’s book! I was so excited to see how it would unfold and OVER MY BROTHER'S DEAD BODY, CHASE ANDREWS completely delivered!
I’m a sucker for the Grumpy x Sunshine trope and it was done so well here! There’s something so mesmerizing about seeing a gruff and tough guy warm up and express his feelings and just be an all-around supporter for the woman he loves and Chase did that very well. I loved seeing him let Twyla in and it was fantastic getting to know him right alongside her, and Twyla was wonderful, too! She was such a lovely person, and I was rooting for her the whole time! Their chemistry felt so natural, and I loved seeing it evolve as they grew closer...their relationship was sweet, heartwarming, and steamy all rolled into one and I was absolutely hooked!
The story itself was fantastic, too! I expected quite a bit of the main parts having read the standalone companion books that preceded this one, but it definitely stands alone well on its own, too. Out of the three books, this one was definitely my favourite, and I'm very much hoping we do get some great cameo/crossover moments in Piper Rayne's spin-off football series, which will start off with Twyla's brother, Miles's book!
Overall, I absolutely loved OVER MY BROTHER'S DEAD BODY, CHASE ANDREWS! I especially loved Chase and Twyla, and I’m so excited to read the spin-off series starting off with Twyla’s brother, Miles…his story has been one I’ve also been eagerly waiting for! ;) I'd recommend this one to fans of contemporary romance (both of the sports and non-sports variety since the sports aspect of this one is pretty minimal) who love grumpy x sunshine, and brother's best friend tropes!
Over My Brother’s Dead Body was the third and final book in the Kingsmen Football Stars series by the authors Piper Rayne. Although enjoyable, it was not necessary to have read them in order.
I loved both Twyla and Chase. Chase was the grumpy teammate and best friend of Twyla’s brother, Miles. He was aloof, socially awkward and a man of few words. But with Twyla, who brought sunshine into every thing she did, his inner self came out. It was fun to see the relationship progression.
All in all, it was a quick and fun read with little drama. It also set the stage for the spin off series, the Chicago Grizzlies - more football with the long awaited Miles and Bryce finally coming to a head.
Chase Andrews & Twyla Cavanaugh Location: San Francisco, California
It has been pretty obvious that Chase was attracted to Twyla, and that her fiancé was sh*t. Now we get to see how their love unfolds.
The Good: I really liked both of these characters. Chase is the strong silent type. He doesn't care for the limelight that comes along with his profession, but he loves his job. Twyla is more social, and everyone seem to like her. So, in that regard they are opposites.
There are moments in this book that just made Chase such a perfect book boyfriend. The cat and the book especially are moments that I loved where he shined. He just couldn't say no to Twyla and after what she went through, she needed someone to put her needs and wants first.
And I absolutely love how these men and women support each other in their friend groups.
The Bad: Communication issues when it came to the status of their relationship. I understood why Chase didn't say anything, because he wasn't sure if he was just a rebound or not for her, but I didn't understand why Twyla didn't just give him some clarification on that instead of just testing him. For her to be a grown woman, she came across and naive when it came to relationships and with dealing with Miles.
In the end things worked out as they should, and now I can't wait to start the spinoff series with Miles.
Oh, Chase Andrews, I've been waiting for so long to read your book... The grumpiest man from the Kingsmen Football team 😍😍😍.
Even though the book wasn't very long, I loved every single moment with Chase and Twyla. They were perfect for each other. I've seen in the previous books that Chase was looking at Twyla in a certain way and I could definitely feel his attraction towards her. But at the time she was engaged. Now in this book, she is not with her fiance anymore. After her heartbreak she came to live in California for a couple of months...and imagine that...she lives in Chase's building.
Well, how can a person expect that there won't be any development after that 😁.
The simmering attraction, that Twyla felt was always there, in the back of her mind. After everything she's been through, she wasn't ready to have a new relationship, but why not let go of the attraction she felt. The moment they decided to finally try something was the best. The lust, the heat, the fire and smut was soo soo good.
I am in love with both characters and this book was everything that I expected.
Oh, one more thing...We will have some new series from Piper Rayne and we will finally have Miles and Bryce story. I was waiting for this news for so long and we will finally see why they hate each other so much (in my opinion, something definitely happened between them, before they started with the hate).
I received an ARC from Valentine PR and this is my voluntary review.
My Review: Over My Brother's Dead Body, Chase Andrews by Piper Rayne is book #3 in the Kingsmen Football Stars series.
About the Book: After a devastating breakup with her fiance, Twyla (sister to a Kingsmen player), gets to know Chase Andrews a bit better. Although they have both fought against the attraction they feel for each other, they finally decide to give in.
My Final Say: This was a stellar read. It was sweet, spicy, playful, humorous, and beautiful. This one has earned a spot on my favorites shelf.
Over My Brother's Dead Body, Chase Andrews provided the most exquisite way to end the Kingsmen Football series while also building the anticipation for the Chicago Grizzlies. Tawna and Chase were the embodiment of Piper Rayne perfection.
I have been impatiently waiting for Chase and Twyla’s story. The tension between them started at the beginning of the series, but it was nothing compared to what they shared. Chase was so much different than I imagined, but in all the best ways. Sure, he was grumpy, but there was much more to it than that. He was thoughtful and observant, and he went from a swoony small town to a panty-melting bossy alpha in two seconds flat. He was a mix of everything we love in book boyfriends, all in a way that made him unique.
Twyla showed up in San Francisco to get away from memories of what she thought her future would be. She was working towards healing, and it took place naturally; it never felt like she was just over it at the snap of her fingers. She was incredibly sweet, caring, and sassy in a low-key way. I adored her from the moment I met her, and even more now.
Chase Andrews is without a doubt my new Kingsmen Football Star favorite. The intriguing, grumpy man had my curiosity piqued as soon as he was introduced, but there’s nothing that could have prepared me for everything that is Chase Andrews. Charming, protective, swoony, and a decadently bossy alpha—all the things we look for in a book boyfriend—wrapped up in a scowly football star.
I adored the dynamic between Chase and Twyla; he had this innate ability to know what she needed without her having to utter a word. Whether it was holding her hand in silent support or stepping out of his comfort zone without hesitation, no matter what it was, he seemed to understand what she needed from one moment to the next. Every moment between them acted as fuel to the fiery tension between them, and as much as they may have tried to put a stop to what was growing between them, nothing could have prevented the inevitable explosion.
I can’t think of a better couple to bring an end to the series that very quickly stole my heart. Over My Brother's Dead Body, Chase Andrews is all-consuming to the nth degree. An unputdownable blend of soul-searing chemistry, a scowly yet swoony hero, a sweet and sassy heroine, teeming with witty banter, sprinkled with feels, and red-hot steam
I’ve adored spending time lost inside the Kingsmen Football Stars series, but I know without a doubt that within a few words, this duo will make the next series feel like home, a new place to escape to, and every word uttered will wrap around your heart like a literary hug.
Book 3 of the Kingsmen Football series is off the hook. The sparks have been flying with Chase to Twyla ever since he laid eyes on her at his first encounter but she was taken and he knew it could never happen. So he settled with his fantasies of her kneeling before him, spread out for him and bent over in front of him. He is a grumpy introvert who doesn’t get close to anyone. He hold in his pain, anger and desperation. He never trusts anyone not even his teammates and friends. He locks off a part of himself until she walks into his life after being destroyed mentally by her ex fiancé who called off their wedding because he fell for someone else. Twyla is a breath of fresh air. She is sunshine on a rainy day. She is truly an extrovert with her smile and her selfless personality. She is all about making others happy. Doing what she thinks is best for everyone around her. But she has the unexplainable pull to the grumpy, brooding football star, her brothers friend. She knows it’s crazy since she just got out of a long term relationship and she shouldn’t want any relationship with anyone. The longer they are together, the closer the two become. The more they want each other physically but also the more they fall for each other. The only problem is…Miles…Twyla’s overprotective older brother and Chases friend and teammate. He can’t know he would kill…Chase and…who knows what he would do to protect his baby sister. But how can they stay away from each other when the pull is so powerful? How will Miles react if things heat up? Can they all make it through to the other side? Can a grumpy stubborn football player be a warm, patient lover who can give his all to a soft, sensitive elementary school teacher? Well I’m sure not going to tell you. Nope you have to read this awesome read for yourself. All I can say is Piper Rayne drove me to the edge then dropped me off a cliff of wonder! So many times they steered me in one direction just to make a sharp turn on emotional ave at the last moment. There is passion, angst and betrayal but there is so much more to it than just that. If you want to feel the feels this is the read for you. If not…then you are missing out but I won’t hold it against you. We all like what we like. All I can say is I devoured each word like it was my last meal and I was a starving dying woman. I consumed every page, every paragraph, every feeling available. I received a free advanced copy to read and review. Now…Miles and Bryce. Now that’s one is will not be missing!!!!!
Oh Chase Andrews... you beautiful grumpy and quiet man. I have been wanting more of Chase from the very start of the Kingsmen series and it did not disappoint.
Chase isn't a chatty kind of guy- he's not one for chit chat and isn't into sharing his personal life, even with his best friends. But there has always been one person that elicits either interest or a reaction out of him and it was none other than Twyla Cavanaugh- the very engaged and off limits little sister of his friend/teammate, Miles. Twyla is pure sunshine- she's friendly, outgoing and optimistic. Even in the aftermath of her fiance calling off their wedding and her escaping temporarily to San Francisco she just beams.
I love opposites attract stories- especially when the two MCs have that deeper level connection. That is Chase and Twyla to a T... Twyla can see the sweetness and caring person that Chase is underneath his broody and silent exterior while Chase can see when Twyla is putting on her sunshine as a front to her real feelings. I loved all the little moments that built the foundation to their story- when Chase stopped trying to avoid Twyla and they were able be friends. There was almost nothing he wouldn't do for her, even if she didn't ask, and it gave me all the happy heart feelings.
Let's not forget how the saying goes- it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for- because good lord Chase is something else. That very first scene where lines were crossed *whew* I don't know how they just moved on to have a normal evening and not spent the whole time in bed.
I did think that the biggest hurdle in their story would be Miles- but I liked the way that Piper and Rayne kind of shook things up with that angle and the catalyst for Chase's grand gesture for Twyla. All the guys coming together to come up with a grand gesture is still one of my favorite parts of the Kingsmen stories and while this one felt really out of place for Chase I understood why it was done that way. I'm a little heartbroken over what happened with Miles but I can't wait to see what the future holds for him and a certain thorn in his side 😉
Over My Brother's Dead Body, Chase Andrews is the third book in the Kingsmen Football Stars series. This is Twyla and Chase's HEA.
Twyla is fresh out of a broken engagement and needs a little breather room. She moves to San Francisco to take a temp job and ends up living across the hall from Chase. Chase is a grumpy loner, but Twyla is determined to get to know him. As they get closer things begin to heat up. However, their relationship is complicated by Chase's past and Twyla's ex-fiancé.
I enjoyed this book. The characters were well-developed and relatable. I especially liked Twyla. She was strong and independent, and she wasn't afraid to stand up for herself. Chase was also a great character. He was gruff on the outside, but he was a softie on the inside. I loved the chemistry between Twyla and Chase. They were perfect for each other.
The plot was well-paced and kept me engaged. I was rooting for Twyla and Chase the whole time. I loved seeing them overcome their obstacles and find their happily ever after.
"She's like a sunbeam through the clouds after a month of rain" These two complement each other beautifully. The desire between them radiates off the pages. Oh and Mr. Grumpy pants? Turns out Chase is just a big cuddly teddy bear for the right woman.
"neon pink bedazzled elephant dancing in the room while wearing a thong" This line had me cracking up - They both want it but are too afraid to put themselves out there Thank you Kiwi for being the catalyst that outs them
"I realize you need to hear the words and actions alone aren't enough" Twyla is oblivious so much of the time. LOL. I adored her character. The way she sees the glass half full. And Chase is right she is a ray of sunshine.
As for big brother - It's okay to be overprotective you just need to give her room to stumble on her own. She knows you are there if she needs you.
Matthew, you fracjkee up - No take backsies
This is the final book for the Kingman but don't worry I believe Miles is about to make a debut
This is the third and final instalment in the Kingsmen series and I loved every second of it!
The story of Twyla and Chase. Chase is the Kingsmen’s top tight end. He is also Miles (Twyla's brother), friend and teammate. After Twyla's fiancée cancelled their wedding she comes to San-Fransisco to be with her brother and lick her wounds. She takes a job house sitting in the building where Chase lives. Over the years she visited her brother and met his friends and teammates, but never paid much attention to Chase, who is a very introverted person. Now that he is her next-door neighbor, she spends a lot of time with him, and finds that underneath his grumpy exterior lies a sensitive man. Chase was the sweetest grumpy man, and Twyla – she was such a gentle and kind girl. I loved her attitude towards animals and children and that says a lot about her personality. I hated her ex-fiancée for cheating on her, and was happy she told him to go to hell after he came back crawling to her… his loss was Chase's gain so good for her...
Apart from the story that I loved, loved, loved, LET'S talk about the narrators... Jason Clarke and Savannah Peachwood
I can very much say that this contributed so much to me loving this book even more 😂😂😂
Savannah has the most caressing and soothing female voice I heard so far and the way she narrated Twyla was perfect!
And Jason, (oh Jason) voice is OMG!! I felt swoony and ticklish all through the book when he narrated. I think my blood pressure and heartbeat want skyrocket while listening to him (and I'm not kidding, my sport watch buzzed 😊 … )….
Jason, will you please read me a bedtime story? I promise to take off the watch…
Twyla Cavanaugh is fresh out of a broken engagement, desperate for a change of scenery to avoid the pity of everyone she knows, namely the whole small town she lives in, and decides to take a temp job in San Francisco where her older brother plays for the Kingsmen football team. As luck would have it, she’ll be moving across the hall from one of Miles’ teammates. Chase Andrews is the quiet, grumpy guy of the team. A Montana man, completely out of place in a big city being recognized by fans, he’s more of a loner who happens to love football not the fame that comes with being an NFL player. I rarely devour a book in one sitting, but this one was a one and done type of story. Chase and Twyla bring it all to the table and have no qualms opening to each other. While he is my new Garret - cue the Single Dad’s Club – private, reserved and not at all the life of the party, she is a woman who’s at her best in social situations and who makes everyone at ease in her presence. They complement each other beautifully and I loved them as a couple. In good Piper Rayne’s style, they are also funny and sexy plus they have an epic tagline and the supporting characters and backdrop of the story makes it a solid 10 in my book. Chase is another example of a great book boyfriend especially if you love the silent, brooding type. Can’t wait to find out what’s in store for the Chicago Grizzlies now that we are done with the Kingsmen. Way to go out with a bang!
Piper Rayne will charm and delight you with this third installment of the Kingsmen Football Stars. If you love a football romance that features the brother’s best friend trope then this is the book for you! Piper Rayne’s writing is conversational, easy to get hooked into, and blends together humor and heart seamlessly. This contemporary romance is well paced, and centers a romance in which the hero is absolutely smitten with the heroine from the start. If you love Piper Rayne you are sure to enjoy this novel!
I think the true strength of this novel lies with the hero and heroine and they way they build a friendship before taking a next step in their romantic relationship. The heroine is at a crossroads in her life where she is learning her true value and where she wants her life to go. Our hero is content in his life but is being drawn out of his shell by the heroine and learning that maybe he is missing something that he wholeheartedly deserves. The hero is an absolutely teddy bear for the heroine, he is beyond loyal to his friends, and while he might have a gruff shell his center is warm and gooey. The heroine is smart and learning to be bold and go after what she wants. These two are both extremely attracted to the other but they don’t just jump into a physical relationship, instead they build a really lovely friendship in which they learn to rely on each other, help each other out, and trust each other. It is only after this trust and understanding is built that they are able to enter into a physical relationship. Piper Rayne shows that their relationship has a beautiful ease to it that makes them the perfect partner for the other.
If you enjoy a sports romance that heavily centers the romantic relationship and is enhanced by charming secondary characters, you are sure to enjoy this series by Piper Rayne. While it can be read as a stand-alone it is much better read in order as each book builds smoothly into the next. Definitely pick up this series if you are looking for a quick, sensual and romantic series to dig your teeth into!
Thank you to Valentine PR for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Over My Brother's Dead Body, Chase Andrews, as implied by this awesome cover is brother's best friend, sports romance. It's number three (and the final book) in the Kingsmen football stars series by Piper Rayne.
It's definitely the book readers of this series (and the .5 prequel) have been waiting for. Chase Andrews is the wall of muscle, resident grump, and non-people person. Many a joke has been made at Chase's expense in the previous books. There's a hilarious early scene in the book that typifies Chase to a tee - unwillingly "catering" his friends' engagement party with pizza and (not enough) beer. Because what more could a millionaire NFL player and his beautiful fiancee want? It's at the engagement party Chase gets the shock of his life, when the party attendees find his new neighbour in the hallway - Twyla, the younger sister of his team mate Miles, and the girl he has been secretly attracted to for years. Miles doesn't know Twyla has moved, escaping their home town for the hustle and bustle of San Francisco to step out on her own after a broken engagement. Twyla has also always been drawn to Chase but every-mindful of him being Miles best friend.
Over My Brother's Dead Body, Chase Andrews is the quintessential brother's best friend book. There's the simmering tension, some angst and of course the secrecy you would expect, particularly given Miles is next level protective of his younger sister. The history around Miles' feelings, and the closeness between the siblings is nicely explained and explored, and the reader understands Twyla's wanting to be independent and prove herself. She's also mindful of his feelings and identification of this role as being part of his persona as well.
Twyla is the bright star in an otherwise dark sky, and always has the best intentions. Chase is a surprisingly layered character who is fiercely private, and holds parts of himself away from even his closest friends. Together they are simmering tension but also share a friendship born through caring and compassion, a love of animals, and their friends. The question remains whether they will be able to live in the real world without hurting Miles, and whether Twyla's feelings are real given her breakup.
Thank you Piper Rayne and Valentine PR for the advanced ebook of Over My Brothers Dead Body, Chase Andrews! These are my honest thoughts.
This is Book 3 of the Kingsmen Football Series and it’s about Chase and Twyla! Twyla is fresh off the heels of a failed engagement, and Chase has had his eyes on her for a long time. Twyla is the sunshine to Chases grumpy, introverted football player self. Chase is Twyla’s brothers best friend, and after her failed engagement she moves back home and ends up next door to Chase. These two have sparks between them that truly fly off the pages! Twyla is hesitant because she’s fresh out of a relationship, but the chemistry is undeniable. The push and pull between these two had me hooked and unable to put the book down!
Will these two be able to resist each other or will the sparks ignite between them? How does Miles feel about his sister and his best friend / teammate being together? You’ll have to read this one to find out how it all plays out! This was my first Piper Rayne book, but it definitely won’t be my last!
This was a solid ending to this series and by far my favorite in this trio. I simply loved Chase and Twyla. Chase was a gentle giant and that surprised me. The vulnerability he showed was adorable and made me love the big guy even more. I'll admit that Twyla did annoy me with her 'we can't tell my brother' mantra since it was so obvious that Chase was not comfortable with that idea. But he went along because he was only doing what he could to make Twyla happy and keep her with him. She also annoyed me when she decided to see her ex (the one who broke off their engagement because he supposedly fell in love with someone else). I can't blame Chase for deciding to take a step back at that point since, who does that?!? Come on Twyla! Don't hurt the bad guy's feelings and make him seem insignificant.
I gotta say, Chase's grand gesture made me laugh (the swear words in front of a crowd lol), and made me swoon over his declaration to thousands of people. They're my new favorite football couple.
I was looking forward to reading this book. Chase and Twyla had been simmering in the background of the previous book and I couldn’t wait to find out what their story involved.
I was not disappointed. Grumpy loner Chase comes out of his shell when he interacts with Twyla, the sister of his teammate. There are complications as Twyla is trying to get over her ex and her cancelled wedding, her brother is super overprotective and she has just moved to San Francisco for a short time to get her head together. I love how they interacted with each other and how they bonded over a cat.
I’m sad that this is the end of this series but I’m excited that some of the characters may appear in a different series (don’t want to give too much away).
I received an advanced copy of this book from #Valentinepr this is my honest review.
